Are wondering why every time you hit a certain note, it squeaks, or crunches, or sounds glassy? Or maybe you can't quite read the notes. Perhaps you are no stranger to the instrument, but need improvement of musicianship, expression, etc. Let me help you master the skills you're trying to achieve. With my help, you can make breathtaking music!
I grew up in a household of 9 where music was always center stage. We would sing as a family in different venues and were often called the VonTrapp family. I have enjoyed singing and performing from a young age. I began studying flute at age 8, after scoring highest in the harmony listening exam and began formal violin lessons at the age of 9. I studied all genres including, fiddle, classical, musical theater and 20th century. I have continued to study violin since then and have performed in many orchestras and small groups, such as Honor Orchestra, the Paradise Symphony, the Yuba College Orchestra, Yuba-Sutter Oratorio Society Orchestra and more. I have been concert master and first stand in many of these. I have also soloed in many and have been the first violinist in quartets for countless weddings and other events. I have also played
in numerous pit orchestras for musicals. I have been in choirs and soloing since I can remember. I have performed and soloed in choirs such as the Yuba-Sutter Oratorio Society, CSUS Chamber Choir, the CSUS Women's Choir and more. I have toured to Victoria, Montreal, Ottowa, Oregon and Washington. I have also been in opera productions such as The Magic Flute, Peleas and Melisande and Die Fledermaus (The Bat) with CSUS Opera. I am a recent recipient of the Saturday Club Scholarship, a prestigious award, and have won many competitions (some repeatedly) both vocally and with violin, such as the Tri-County Competition, Young Artist Competitions, and the California Soloist and Ensemble Competitions. Additionally, I have performed musical theater repertoire and have performed as lead in musicals such as Beauty and the Beast and Into the Woods. I have also soloed repeatedly with the Yuba College jazz band and at churches all around. I have earned my Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from CSU Sacramento. I have my Associates Degrees in both Music and Early Childhood Education from Yuba College. Additionally, I have obtained my certificate of completion of training from Music Together, an organization which trains teachers to teach Basic Music Competence (both in tonality and meter), and am currently teaching this curriculum. I have been teaching music privately for over ten years to all ages, genders and abilities. Additionally, I have taught ages 0-5 years in a preschool setting for 7 years and am extremely familiar with developmentally appropriate practices for both preschool and school age, as I am a site supervisor at a child development center with a preschool and after school program. I have had many adult students as well and encourage adults to enrich their lives with music at any age! Additionally, I have experience teaching parent child classes and am familiar with how to teach to the particular needs of each family and student. I'm extremely excited and looking forward to growing as a professional, both teaching and performing, in both the areas of violin and voice and to be instrumental in your musical growth too; I can't wait to share my passion with you and to ignite your passion for music too!
*** Lesson Details *** I have been teaching since 2002 and have loved every minute of it! I teach all ages. I tailor my style of teaching to each student's goals and to what works for you. If you want to learn Taylor Swift music, I won't be giving you arias. On the other hand, if you wish to study classically, I have repertoire appropriate for you. I teach fiddle, classical, orchestral, 20th century and more for violin students and have experience with jazz, classical, musical theater, pop, religious, spiritual, choral, 20th century and more vocally. For violin students, I use the Suzuki method as a pushing off point, a tried and true method used in many countries across the world, though I have other repertoire including fiddle, orchestra, small ensemble, solo, concertos, Christmas, and more. For vocalist, I start with the book, Adventures in Singing. I also have warm ups and exercises to keep you vocally healthy. I will teach you anything you want to learn! I also teach how to read music, theory and harmony, depending on your interest and tailored to your current skill level. I am encouraging and knowledgeable. I will meet you at your current level, be that beginner, intermediate, or advanced. My students can look forward to being encouraged and growing through their time with me. I don't have preset ideas about where you should be in 3-6 months, nor do I have a one size fits all teaching style. Instead, I will work with you individually so that you will become the best musician you can be, meet your goals, and increase your enjoyment and appreciation for music.
*** Studio Equipment *** Lessons in open space, upright piano, digital piano, music stands, metronome, violins available for rent, music, staff paper and computer

I have instruments available for rent. My voice students should bring their own music also. I have a piano in my studio along with music stands. Of course, every student must have a pencil and come ready to have fun learning! :)
*** Specialties *** Suzuki, solfege, art songs and arias, reading music, fiddle, classical, healthy vocal technique and musical theater. I am very good at working with any age.
I have been working with Kim for a few weeks and I have learned a tremendous amount and can hear the difference every week as I progress. I enjoy the process she applies to keep it positive and fun yet learn the proper fundamentals required to perform well. I actually tried a few vocal teachers and Kim with her wisdom and experience made it simple who to go with!!

Ensures one has a strong foundation of violin knowledge. Patient and kind. Love this instructor!

Kim can teach you or your child, no matter where you are!
I was 30 when I decided to rekindle my love for the violin. I hadn’t played since before YouTube was invented, and I was skeptical about learning violin online. By the first lesson, Kim had already corrected poor habits I didn’t know I had, just after hearing me play a few scales. She adjusted her teaching style to my personality so seamlessly that I felt I was just getting pointers from a dear violinist friend whose advice is always spot-on. Weekly practice never felt like work, because Kim tailored my assignments to my goals. Before I knew it, I was playing complex concertos I could never do in high school. I started out being able to play just one major scale. Within 10 months, I was in Suzuki Book 4!
I can’t say enough about Kim’s expert teaching skills. During a sight-reading of a very difficult piece, I became so frustrated that I wanted to stop the lesson and try again later. Kim encouraged me until I had gotten all the way through, and pointed out what I could learn from my performance. When I had time to calm down, I realized that Kim can do this for any student; adults, children, and adults whose inner child throws a tantrum when they’re frustrated by a musical challenge. :-)
Teachers like Kim are rare, and worth their weight in gold. I learned so much more than violin fundamentals through my lessons with her. I’m convinced Kim can teach anyone, of any age—even through an online platform.
My name is Ray, I'm 31 years old, and was born in Queens, NY. I studied classical music for many years as a youngster at the Aaron Copeland School of Music college preparatory program. During this program I was introduced to Jazz, and around the same time began experimenting with synthesizers. I went on to study Electronic Production & Design at Berklee College of Music in Boston, and quickly became a very sought after studio musician and performer.
I've been successfully teaching many instruments and proficiency levels for approximately 16 years now, and can say with pride that teaching is my passion, and I anticipate it remaining a very important part of my life.
I enjoy reading nonfiction books on science, math, and philosophy.
*** Lesson Details *** My music lessons are unique for three main reasons:
1. I h
ave a very deep understanding of music, sound, and theory, and feel music to be one of my native languages.
2. I have devoted considerable amounts of time and energy studying neuroscience, which has greatly improved my understanding of the learning process.
3. I have been blessed with the tremendous amount of patience necessary to guide a student through the necessary steps it takes to learn at whatever pace is optimal, in order to maximize the efficiency of the learning process for each individual.
*** Equipment *** Students must have their own instrument, and purchase their own materials (books, etc). From time to time I make my way to a local music shop, and am happy to purchase materials for reimbursement.
*** Specialties *** Classical music is my background, and what I believe to be the most cognitively and emotionally fulfilling style of music to listen to, study, and play. That said, I'm also a big fan of pop music (as well as other genres), and encourage students to enjoy, for example, learning their favorite songs from the radio.
My understanding of music theory is extremely thorough, and I'm happy to incorporate as much or as little of it as the student's interest dictates, nevertheless maintaining the minimal amount of theory necessary to get the most out of learning music and the instrument.
Thanks for checking out my profile! Please contact me with any additional questions you may have, as well as to inquire about day/time availability. I'll do my best to get back to you right away (usually within a few hours).
My daughter is loving her cello lessons with Ray even more than she expected. She feels she is really improving.
March 28, 2014
My son and daughter both take from Ray and they love him!!! My daughter started with him after she had had 2 other teachers and she improved immediately. She loves going to Ray because he teaches her to play the songs that she likes. Now she plays so many songs for memory!! My son loves going to piano and is always excited to see Ray.
I love the viola; I'm primarily a violist and love nothing more. I would love to share my passion with you or your child!
I have a Master's degree in Viola Performance, and viola is my primary instrument. I have received extensive instruction on the minutiae of the viola, and can help you with any need that you many have!
I tailor my approach to each student. Some students require more technical work, some require interpretive. Both are fascinating and can be taught with structure and clarity.
Hi! My name is Martina and I am a classically trained violist. For my background, I received a Master of Music from Roosevelt University, where I studied with Lawrence Neuman of the Chicago Symphony. I received an undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin with Sally Chisholm of the Pro Arte quartet.
The only thing I love more than playing viola is sharing the joy of music with others! I've received training on violin and viola and can't wait to start teaching you or your child.
*** Lesson Details *** I tailor my approach to each student to make sure that: 1.) The student is getting exactly what he/she wants out of the lessons. 2.) The lessons are an appropriate difficulty for the student. 3.) A student's strengths and weaknesses are being addressed with a tailor-made lesson plan and long-term goals.
Travel Equipment *** I can provide a stand. Student is responsible for purchasing an instrument, and any sheet music. I can definitely advise on an instrument to purchase and will instruct with specific music requests.
I began privately instructing students while I was still in high school. Thirty years later, my studio teaching experience continues to instill a passion for music and students that are performing in their own venues in school and the community. Knowing that the time I have with each person is leading them to grow and share their own abilities with others is truly the heart of where I think musical instruction should lead.
Hello. My name is Kendra and I have been performing and teaching professionally for over 25 years. Utilizing the Suzuki curriculum and supplemental methods, I like to provide a solid technical foundation as well as tailor each lesson to my students' personal musical interests and goals including classical, Irish and Bluegrass fiddle styles, jazz, blues, and popular music. Please note that I reserve studio space on a weekly or bi monthly basis. I look forward to helping you study music and reach your goals!
She is a great instructor! Very patient, especially when there are weeks where I don't get to practice very much because of work. She is understanding and always looks for the progress.

My 12 year old daughter had her first violin lesson today and this is her response on why she is giving Kendra a 5 star
- she was patient when I didn’t understand something
-she was good at explaining “how to” do different things throughout the lesson that I could understand
-she was overall really nice
I have played the violin and the viola for 13 years, and have studied both extensively at a high level. You can expect a good mixture of technique and pieces in our lessons, along with many conversations about body awareness and tension release. The last two points are my passion projects, as I aim to help you develop pain free playing at all costs!
I am currently a freelance violist and strings teacher in the greater Hartford area. I completed a masters degree in viola performance at The Hartt School in December of 2018.
In the past year, I have collaborated with Teaching Artists International in traveling to Peru and Guatemala to observe and teach students immersed in the El Sistema philosophy. El Sistema began in Venezuela as a method of orchestral instruction that carries with it an essential component of social justice and inclusivity.
Teaching is a great opportunity to get to know a young artist. My primary goal as a teacher has always been to help my students develop technical and musical abilities through regular practice and problem solving approaches, while always encouraging a unique musical voice. In our lessons together, we will explore your personal mus
ical interests, and I will also introduce you to an applied technical approach to the viola and violin, which I will cater to your individual technical and musical needs!
I would be more than happy to answer any specific questions you have about my pedagogical approach, and I look forward to hearing from you!
Jake was great. Articulate, calm, encouraging. He understood my requests and was quick to asses what action to take. Thanks Jake.
February 12, 2019
Jake has a keen sense of how to pace lessons, and has a sharp eye & ear for technique. If I had just taught myself through YouTube I might be okay at violin, but the quality would be nowhere near where it is today without Jake's help. These lessons have been a good investment and I look forward to improving even more.

Jake Pietroniro is an excellent teacher and colleague. I’ve work with him for the last couple years and he has a great ability to tailor lessons to each students individual needs. I highly recommend Jake to any student interested in improving their musical abilities.
Patient and compassionate teacher. Learn at your pace. The lessons will be geared towards your goals.
Lessons are tailored to the students' level and goal. Caring and compassionate instructor. Your dream is my dream and I will diligently work with you to help you on your path. If you have the will to learn and practice, you will see improvements and achievements. I've been teaching music to children and adults for about 20 years both privately and at teaching studios. I have played as a substitute church pianist, ballet accompanist, and have spent the last four years playing for a variety of private and corporate events and weddings.
We learn the basics of technic, lesson songs and theory using the classical approach. We have fun through music games and challenge assignments where my students earn rewards in various creative ways.
I love music and teaching musical instruments to others so that they can enjoy music too! I enjoy teaching all ages and have 40 years of experience teaching my instruments.
I started playing violin at age 10 and within two years I was performing solos on stage. At age 14, I was invited to be guest soloist for community orchestras and the regional symphony. I liked being excused from school for these performances and by age 16, I was given a scholarship for early entrance to college. I had a violin performance major with a piano, viola, cello minor.
I teach to the individual needs of each student and we can go as fast or slow as we need to in the learning process. I teach various styles of music, such as classical, celtic, wedding songs, fiddling, and praise & worship.
In my career, besides teaching, I have played in the citywide symp
hony and some community orchestras. I have directed a community string orchestra and other musicals for children. I have ensemble experience with duets, trios, quartets and string ensembles, also.
I have traveled to 16 countries and taught music to students around the world in international schools and churches.
Join me in a fun and exciting time of focused learning.
Feel free to ask any questions you would like and I will get back with you! Miss Jennifer Underwood
I am an experienced classical viola teacher who has been teaching for 5 years from ages 5-16, beginner to advanced! I focus heavily on technique and foundations so the student has a well rounded music education and confidence in the viola that they can take with them forever. For beginners I use the Suzuki books, I Can Read Music series, String Builder series and Winning Rhythms. For more advanced violists I use the Introduction to the Positions series and etude books such as Wohlfahrt and Kreuzer.
My name is Jocelyn and I have been playing the violin and viola for 13 years and teaching for 5 years. I am principal viola of the Bryn Mawr-Haverford Orchestra and I also am part of a chamber music group. In high school, I was in the Maryland All-State Orchestra for four years and was in the Maryland Classic Youth Orchestra (MCYO), one of the most prestigious orchestras in Maryland, for four years. During my summers, I attended the Interlochen Center for the Arts high school music program. I have been taught by musicians from the National Symphony Orchestra and National Philharmonic. My students improve significantly since our first lessons. One of my first students whom I now give Skype lessons to successfully got into one of the best orchestras in the DC area and is now principal (1st chair) of the viola section of that orchestra. A
nother student, who I started teaching when they were six years old, is now a year later on Suzuki book 2, Wohlfahrt Etudes and is learning third position as a seven year old. I use a comprehensive set of books that teach theory, rhythm and pieces that I use to teach students how to prepare and perform "performance ready" pieces.
Jocelyn is punctual and courteous. She was flexible and responsive via email. She is a great fit for an outgoing child.

Jocelyn was very professional and patient with my daughter who is just a beginner. We are excited to see progress from week to week!
October 22, 2017
Jocelyn came to our home and worked with our son. She was very patient and kind with him and was able to find what to correct on the first lesson! She recommended some books for us to buy and I think that she will be a great teach for him.
"My daughter's confidence and skills as a violist have grown tremendously while under Martina's tutelage. I'm so pleased with the online lessons which give
us the quality of an exceptional instructor in the comfort of our own home and on our schedule. Finding Martina has been a blessing to my daughter and her music."
"Jill is an excellent instructor. She is patient and funny. Kind and informative. She is highly knowledgeable and one of the first Suzuki kids."
"I thought I wanted to take viola lessons. Then I read her website and I realized that she might be able to help me get my voice back! I thought there wa
s no hope ever. She has been extremely generous with her time, and I haven't seen her yet, but I'm not buying the viola I was planning on buying. I play cello, and piano still, but I am going to see if she can help me with my voice. She sounds incredible. I never dreamed that I could even have HOPE like this!"
"At the first lesson, Grace took the time to understand my musical goals then made a solid assessment of my current level of playing. She was able to ide
ntify small changes in my technique/form and crafted modifications in my warmup to support the change in technique."
"Mark is best music teacher .I learn a lot from him very first lesson."
"If you’re looking for a dedicated, knowledgeable and patient strings teacher, you will love Mrs. Heins. Both of my sons have been taking lessons from Mrs.
Heins for several years (one for viola and one for cello). They have learned so much under her instruction, such as earning All-County and All-State honors. They also practice their live performance skills twice a year during informal musical concerts. Mrs. Heins also offers participation in the Royal Conservatory Music Development program, which can earn your child credit for college. She is a gem and should you choose her, you won’t be disappointed."
"Great teacher! Very patient."
"Krisztina is a great musician, experienced teacher and wonderful person. I am grateful that I had the opportunity to work and play with her during the pas
t years. She is really devoted to the instrument and music. She has my highest endorsement and recommendation."
"Susanna is a very experienced and professional strings teacher. She is an excellent violist. She has great rapport with her students and they enjoy learni
