I mentioned to Gregory specifically I wanted to learn, which was GarageBand for iPad. He told me he taught middle schoolers and to book with him. I asked for more specificity on could he teach this exact thing, to make sure there was no confusion (please check the conversation he and I had within the takelessons website) and he kept saying book with me. I did.

He may know a thing or two about GarageBand (I don't know that for sure), but he knew very little about iPad GarageBand. It was a complete waste of my time. In text messages I said to him that I would not give him a bad review, but I was going to ask for a refund. He said thank you for not leaving a bad review. But then he wouldn't allow refund. Good God!

So here we are. He wasted 2.5 hours of my time, cost me parking in the city, didn't teach me literally anything, and he wouldn't give up the 50 bucks

All that said, now here I am having to take more of my time that could be used for productive purposes, to have to write a bad review. He really deserves this.

Very nice. It would have been better if I knew what books to purchase ahead of time. To maximize the lesson time, teacher should send expectations and tips for success to students ahead so preparation can take place. Be sure to have your own equipment too.

I have been teaching young students piano for seven years. I have completed my education for a music education degree, and am the former president of the Cal State Piano Society. I have been playing piano for nineteen years and love every aspect of music. My goal is to pass my passion for music onto my students, and allow them to develop a deep appreciation and understanding for all genres.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am a strong believer in making the learning process fun and enjoyable. I want my students to be motivated to learn and practice as much as possible. My teaching style consists of starting with the basics (technique, theory, and reading music) then graduating to style and phrasing. My students will always leave our lessons feeling accomplished and confident. Learning an instrument is hard work, but with enough effort a
nd commitment, anything is possible!

*** How Long of a Lesson? ***
For very young beginners, I recommend 15 minutes. For beginners, I recommend 30 minutes. For intermediate, we can do 30 to 45 to 60 minutes. For advanced, you would benefit from 45 to 60 minutes. If you are beginner and want to have a 45 or 60 minute lesson, each lesson will focus on any of these categories: technique, repertoire, theory, ear training, and listening.

***Cancellation Policy***
Please notify me at least ONE HOUR before the lesson if you need to cancel to avoid charges. I may or may not be able to reschedule, and I will allow up to one month for a makeup lesson.

I believe that technique is very important when it comes to piano. I start with teaching the basic scales, hand positions, and good posture. Then I begin teaching music theory, in which the student learns how to read notes, rhythms, dynamics, etc. Once the student becomes proficient in reading and technique, I give them more difficult pieces in order to work on style, voicing, and phrasing.

Irfan is an outstanding tutor that I highly recommend. In less than an hour, he had my son understanding the concepts of chemistry that were frustrating him. Even though we were in different time zones, Irfan made sure to accommodate our schedule. While I originally had doubts about the effectiveness of web tutoring, I can honestly state that Irfan made it effective by using screenshare. Irfan also went out of his to share web links that would help my son with the chemistry issues they were working on. Again, I would highly recommend Irfan if you are looking for a chemistry tutor! We will be using him again I am sure!

Hello there! My name is Colin, and I have four years of experience tutoring math and science. I began tutoring on college campuses, but have most recently been tutoring students – ages 12 through 50+ – from all over the country through online video chat. I am a UC Berkeley biomedical engineering graduate, and as such, both math and science are a significant part of my daily life. In college, I excelled in mathematics up through differential equations, as well as in science classes such as physics, general and organic chemistry, general and molecular biology, and programming. In addition to my coursework, I was an undergraduate researcher in a bioengineering laboratory for three years. My strong background in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) qualifies me to tutor math and science up through lower-division college courses. However, I believe that it is my genuine passion for STEM that makes me a good teacher of math and science.

As a tutor, my goal is not to impress students with how much I know. Rather, my goal is to impress my students by showing them how easily math and science concepts can come to them when they are presented the material in a straightforward way. The late physicist, Richard Feynman, posited that the ability to explain complicated ideas in a simple manner is the true mark of understanding. I agree with this assertion, and I make it my goal each tutoring session to explain even the most complex phenomena in a simple way, so that my student will come away from the lesson invariably understanding it. Additionally, I emphasize a strong understanding of the fundamentals, because both math and science are heavily inductive disciplines; many of the theorems and laws are founded on other, more fundamental principles. I have personally experienced the discouragement of trying to learn material that is beyond my foundation level, and so I can empathize with students who are in that boat. Fortunately, I have learned that the remedy is always a return to, and a strengthening of the basics. That is the approach I take with students who find themselves struggling in a course.

My online teaching platform is a “black board” drawing program that my students can follow along with as I explain concepts and solve problems. I simply share my screen with them during the session, and at the end, I take a screenshot of the notes and email it to my students for their reference. I hope this brief explanation of my qualifications and teaching style has provided a clear image of what you can expect from me as your tutor. I am eager to hear from you and help you succeed in your academic goals!

I have done projects that included creating databases, training departments on the use of said databases, taught entire departments at Jet Propulsion Laboratory how to migrate to Microsoft Outlook from (the archaic) Eudora.

I thought I was pretty good at excel! Well, Judi was able to show me that I was only using 10% of my Excel brain. I had NO idea what I could do with Excel to make my life easier until I learned from Judi. I'm sure I will be using her again! Thanks!!!

3) Love of Learning – This is perhaps the most important element to me. My favorite teachers were not the ones who managed to cram the most amount of information in my head, but those who helped me be excited about the subjects they taught. As a tutor, I work with students to develop excitement about the subject matter and a love of learning more generally.

Finally, here’s a bit more information about me. Currently, I'm a public health researcher at a large non-profit, and specialize in systematic reviews and project evaluation. I studied Sociology and Public Policy at UNC Chapel Hill. I graduated summa cum laude and received a Chancellor's award for excellence in my field of study. Josh was a very patient and a hands on tutor. He took time to get to know each student in order to better assist them personally. He had good boundaries with the students and was able to stay professional while being able to have fun with them. We saw personal gains based on the VA SOL test scores at the end of the school year after his assistance.

Both of my sons went from F’s to B’s with Josh’s help. We had all pretty much given up that they would be able to get good grades in math. We were just hoping Josh could get them to pass. We can’t say enough about Josh’s clear, understandable and relevant guidance. Yes, they got great grades, but he also made them feel confident in their abilities to do the work. He is wonderful!
