*Disclaimer* I'm currently not taking beginner students on voice/singing, guitar, bass, drums, piano, and ukulele. I highly recommend my studio partners Melissa though. Please check out her profile:
I've been playing with classical ensembles and rock bands since 2001. Even though I started on classical trombone and rock guitar, I have come to expand my repertoire to a variety of instruments and genres. During my time in college I performed with the University choir, orchestra, and band. I also have organized, wrote/arranged for, and performed with a variety of bands in my home state of New Mexico, as well as Japan, and the San Francisco Bay Area.
Since 2006 I have been an active teacher. This profession has taken me everywhere from working with classical guitar cla
sses in New Mexico high schools to Elementary students in Japan to a variety of private students of various musical instruments and genres everywhere I've been. Since relocating to the Bay Area in 2010, I've had the pleasure of working with lots of great students from kids to adults with a wide range of ambitions. Since 2012 I've been running my own full time studio.
Philosophy of Learning
Lessons are generally designed to work towards giving students the tools to accomplish their goals and become increasingly independent over time. While all students will study similar fundamentals regarding technique, theory, and performance, every lesson is as different as every person. What kind of music do you want to make? I'll tell you what you need to do to get there, and help you take the steps to achieve your aspirations. It's really important to know though that everyone makes their own experience. The process of learning music involves you learning as much about your own mind and body as it does any external concepts, so please keep in mind only you can move yourself forward.
I also love to help students put together a song, record, and produce it for them so that they can have a recording to share with their friends and family.
I also hold events for my students. (Check out our pictures and videos below!) Younger students have opportunities to perform for friends and family at my studio every few months. Adult students also occasionally have events where they get a chance to get together and play music as well.
Aside from in-studio lessons, students also have the option to sign up for online lessons via Skype. (*Online lessons offered during different times than in-studio lessons.)
*Unfortunately due to scheduling issues, I'm not currently accepting students for bi-weekly lessons. I can do regular weekly lessons, or occasional drop-in lessons, but bi-weekly appointments make it really hard for me to give the best scheduled times to my existing weekly students. I'm sorry for the inconvenience.

*A P.A. System

*Guitars, Basses, Ukulele, Banjos, etc
*Two guitar amps and a bass amp

Jesse has given directions on how to successfully become a better musician. His approach and explanation on musical theories was much more understandable than what I was previously reading. Overall, I found the lessons to be very usefull.

I've played saxophone for about 18 years. I enjoy teaching all levels of saxophone students! Saxophone is a fun and versatile instrument.
I've been teaching private lessons for over 15 years. I was a high school music teacher & band director in the Philadelphia area for 7 years, and I now live in Miami, FL where I am working on a doctoral degree in conducting. I also work as a freelance musician. I'm looking forward to making music with you!
Your lesson specifics are up to you! If you know what you want to learn, I'll help get you there. If you don't know where to start, I can lead you through the fundamentals and help you set goals.
I like to keep things positive in music lessons. Music is, after all, for fun and enjoyment! I like to blend teaching technique and musicianship, while keeping things fun.
If you're a beginner, we'll get started with all the fundamentals you need to begin making music. If you've been playing for a while, I'll help you perfect
things you've been working on, expand your musical experience, and help you reach your fullest potential as a musician.
Online lessons are a wonderful option! I am flexible with scheduling and allow changes up to 24-hours before a scheduled lesson. My home studio has chairs, music stand, and areas for parents to sit in on lessons. Garage band is available for recording. Students need an instrument and books.
Tina has provided our daughter 11 year old daughter with outstanding lessons as a beginning trumpet player this past summer! Not only was our daughter able to skip beginning band and be placed into the more advance concert band with the 1st trumpets, she received an invite from her well known director of bands to participate in the school’s Big Band. Our daughter is quickly improving on her playing skills.
Tina will always be remembered as the primary influence behind her aspirations to play the trumpet the right way!
With over 20 years as a professional saxophonist and 15 years teaching experience I know the demands of a performing musician professionally and academically. I teach students how to produce a good tone quality with characteristic vibrato. I can teach students to become good at reading music. Students who are interested in jazz or pop styles of music will be taught improvisation techniques and how to play by ear.
As far back as I can remember I have always enjoyed performing music. I can remember during my elementary school years how I would play drums during church service. Some days I would sneak in my dad's closet to play his saxophone. I began learning how to play saxophone in middle school and by the time I was in high school I was learning piano, performing jazz, and composing music. I went on to get a Bachelor of Music at the University of North Texas. I have been performing professionally for over 18 years. I also have taught band for 11 years in Dallas ISD. I enjoy teaching and mentoring other up and coming musicians. It's a joy to see another world open up to them through music. Through my warm and positive personality and experience as a certified music teacher and music performer, I understand how to meet the social and education
al needs of each music student. I am well versed at solving problems and helping students thrive and reach their full potential. I think that I do this best by personalizing the instruction experience for each unique situation. I love to encourage students and help them discover the music in them.
*** Lesson Details *** Like me, students can expect to enjoy the process. Students will discover that I am very encouraging during lessons. I keep everything upbeat and positive. I have started thirty beginner students on alto and tenor saxophone who have advanced to a high level of performance ability. I teach basic musicianship and music theory as well as saxophone and cover concert and jazz band styles. My students expand their ranges and take on higher difficulty as their lessons progress.
I have taught music (K-8) in a private school in Palo Alto for 16 years and have created a very successful program. I conduct 5 bands, an orchestra and a beginner string ensemble. I have started hundreds of children on instruments and have taught dozens of children privately with great results. I have a BA degree from Luther College and did post-graduate work in music at the University of Iowa.
Great lesson with Stephen, my son was getting excellent sound out of his trumpet in a matter of minutes!

Stephen is a fabulous trumpet teacher. Thoughtful, patient, professional.

Claire and Benjamin F.
The kids' first trumpet lesson was wonderful! Stephen was patient and has a good sense of humor. Neither of the kids have ever played the trumpet before, but by the end of their lesson they'd already made noticeable progress. We also greatly appreciate Stephen's willingness to teach the kids together. One was nervous to take lessons solo, but excited to take lessons with a friend. Stephen is the kind of instructor you always hope to find when you're looking for private lessons - knowledgeable and kind. I'm confident the kids will grow in their music skills through these lessons!
I don't just teach. I instill values into my students to ensure that they achieve their goals. Thomas M. Sterner, a renowned philosopher and jazz pianist once wrote, "Everything in life worth achieving requires practice." I instill this philosophy into my students. I believe that it is something they can reflect on and use in any aspect of their life. I help my students learn to enjoy the process of development. I applaud them when they are doing well, showing how excited I am when they achieve a goal. Even the smallest amount of progress is still progress. I help my students understand this and enjoy this progress so that they can continue to work hard at becoming the best musician they can be.
I am a saxophonist, composer, and music guide. I studied music and jazz at Clayton State University, as well as Georgia State University. I have been performing and teaching saxophone for several years. I enjoy watching my students develop as musicians. Students will find that I'm just as excited to see them progress as they are! I encourage and motivate them to achieve the goals they have set, as well as give them the tools necessary to evaluate and exceed those goals. Students can expect to gain an appreciation for their personal growth and will enjoy the process as much as they will enjoy the end product. My job is to be both a resource and guide throughout the student's process in learning saxophone. I will implement students with skills that will not only develop them as musicians but will develop them as individuals. Students wi
ll also discover that enjoying the process of learning music, including its successes and failures, is a trait that will help them succeed at any task!

I have lived in Nashville TN for five years and love it here. I have taught since sophomore year of high school and love working with students.
Max is an awesome teacher! He is very knowledgeable and patient which was exactly what my son needed. He was also very accommodating and accessible for times when we needed to reschedule. My son’s performance increased dramatically only after one summer of weekly lessons. Can’t say enough good things about Max.

Really knows the instrument, knows what to hone in on for improvement. Very personable.
"Michael takes the time to really understand our daughters interests and goals, and then develops a plan just for her. He takes his job very seriously, and
always provides great advice. I would enthusiastically recommend Michael to any saxophone student."
"A very solid and engaging first lesson. My 12-year old son was in a very good mood afterwards!"
"Top notch teacher.
Norman is an excellent teacher. I have been with him for just over a month now and I have came leaps and bounds. It's my first instrum
ent that I have tried to learned and I can read music and play duets with him. He's friendly and very knowledgeable of the material also. I would say that in a couple months I will be dazzling my friends and family. So if your thinking about an instructor then Norman would be a great investment."
"Max is a fantastic teacher! He taught my 12-year old son James how to play saxophone from the very beginning. James had never played the sax before and af
ter his first lesson he could already play a song. Max is passionate and inspires and motivates his students, and his lessons are well planned out. Besides being a great teacher, he is also an amazing saxophone player! I now also have my younger daughter learn to play clarinet with Max, and she also loves her lessons."

Learning how to play saxophone starts with the right equipment--namely, a quality neck strap! Read on for some helpful advice from Brookings, SD teacher Carl S...
The saxophone is a unique instrument for many reasons. One example is that the saxophone is the only band instrument that uses a neck strap. Unfortunately, the neck strap is often the most overlooked aspect of playing the instrument. One of the first things that I stress to a new student is the importance of the neck str …
