I'm Ahmad a very enthusiastic musician. I started out teaching myself guitar at the age of 12. I moved to the U.S. in 2001 and studied music for 15 years receiving my B.M. and M.M in music and audio production at San Francisco State University. I then moved to Los Angeles then studied and trained with John Mayer, Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, George Lynch and many others. I have performed hundreds of concerts in the U.S. as well in Europe and the Middle East with Artists such as Ozzy Osbourne, Metallica, Guns N Roses, Michael Angelo Batio, Ratt, Sammy Hagar, Dokken and many others. I ranked #1 in the Slash Guitar Center competition. I was in the "list of top 5 guitar players ever" according to The Examiner, also picked as one of the best guitarists of 2013 and 2014 consecutively in the Rockwell UnScene magazine, and ranked 3rd in the Steve Vai Sam Ash Best in Shred competition.

Here's why I dig Ahmad. The atmosphere is casual, personable and relaxed, but he is a real professional who know what they're talking about and don't just give you Green Day tabs (unless you're into that, I'm sure). I've taken all kinds of music lessons with all kinds of folks in all kinds of places and settings and what I learn with Ahmad is comparable to what I could get at any serious school without the pretentiousness.

My lessons with Ahmad have been illuminating. I totally appreciate his willingness and ability to work through my various neuroses with patience, grace and clarity. Ahmad brings a refreshing combination of content knowledge, adaptability, professionalism and humanity to his instruction--the cherry atop my Tuesday evening parfait.

My kids had great lessons with Ahmad. A friendly instructor with a definite love for music and teaching evident. I think he is a very approachable person for anyone nervous about improving their musical skills.

At the University of SC, classical guitar was my primary instrument. There, I studied under renowned guitarist and professor Christopher Berg.

In the classical guitar lesson sequence, we will first focus on basic techniques such as holding the instrument (yes, believe it or not it is different for classical), hand position, and finger fluidity. We will also work on sight reading, scales, and etudes.

I am a new student -- and have never learned to play an instrument. I was encouraged by medical providers to learn an instrument as part of certain of my cognitive therapies. My instrument (the mandolin) was a gift from my son.
I have been fortunate to work with Sean O. G. Burns over the past few months. His style is perfect for my needs. He is patient, and leads with a gentle push -- no pressure! Sean is incredibly talented in his own right musically, and has talents - I'm sure, well beyond my needs -- I see him as an excellent teacher for all ages!

Sean is the music theory graduate assistant at the University of Redlands and is extremely knowledgeable about the subject. He is also a great composer and plays multiple instruments. I would highly recommend him as a music teacher or tutor.

Classical is my specialty. I've taught for almost 15 years and can really help you reach your goals and become a better musician.

KIDS:
I also specialize in teaching kids classical guitar. Classical for your kids is the best way to get them learning real music and theory, developing the best possible technique and good habits, and literally changing their brain chemistry for the better! The foundations they establish with classical leads them to better playing of ANY style even if they don't stick with classical. I am contracted out and travel the nation teaching kids classical guitar and teaching teachers how to teach it, so I feel fully confident you're in the best hands you could be in if your child takes lessons with me.

ADULTS:
If you're just starting out, I will help you build a technical foundation first, playing through a "boot camp" of easy pieces to build sight reading and technical skills. When you're done with that you're ready to tackle some really cool ...

Mike has been a fabulous teacher for our son for the past 2 years! Mike allows Gabriel to try lots of new music while still teaching him the fundamentals of guitar. He has provided a safe and creative space for our son to musically grow in. We couldn't be happier with him as a teacher.

Mike is a patient, qualified guitar teacher for me. I am a beginner older adult. Mike is creating lessons that are in the style I want to learn.
I am getting much more than just 30 or 60 minutes a week. He puts together lessons and songs of interest, that he emails to me between lessons.
Very glad to have found Mike.

I’ve tried a few online lesson services, but the weekly one on one with Mike has kept me more motivated and challenged. So for me, he is a much better fit.

I've had mike for many years now. I'm always excited to see him and learn/play guitar with him. He is kind, nice and a really good friend.

"Jessie has taught my daughter classical and regular guitar for a couple of years. There are many, many thing I like about Jesse's teaching. One of the things that I like most is that he asks my daughter what she wants to learn and then teaches it to her. He mixes up the theory and it's application with what she wants to learn keeping interest and motivation at a high. Another thing that I like is the breadth of material he brings. His students end up well versed in all types of music and are able to play well known pieces in many different genres. Yet another thing that I like is his creditability. He walks the walk. His group plays regularly. Any doubts that your teenager may have about him can be quickly and easily put to rest just by going to hear him perform. Jesse is a good teacher and I highly recommend him."

Learning to play other people's guitar solos is a great way to begin learning to write your own! Guitar teacher Nils B. shares his tips to learning four classic rock solos so you can develop your technique... An essential part of every musician's development is to imitate those who have already mastered their instrument. After settling on a song, give it a couple of close listens (preferably on headphones or a decent stereo), pick up a good transcription, then learn the rhythm parts, while …
