Learn to sing on your breath. This is the basis for a good singing technique and to be able to extend your range. We'll work on vocal technique so you'll develop great habits and muscle memory. We'll also work on musicality and expression through songs and arias. Find your voice! Singing should be effortless.

About Carol
I have taught voice for over twenty years. I studied music at University of California, Santa Barbara, where I received my B.A. I currently work as a professional singer for various local opera companies, music theater groups, churches and temples. I am principal soprano for Opera A La Carte and have also soloed with Repertory Opera Company, Redlands Bowl Festival, Laguna Beach Chorale and Celestial Opera Company. I have worked extensively in Los Angeles schools performing musical assemblies for students in elementary and middle grades through Southland Opera, LA Opera and Guild Opera of Southern California. My teaching experience includes private voice lessons and master classes at Idyllwild School for the Arts.

*** Lesson Details ***
I emphasize breathing techniques to free up the voice to expand your range and ease of singing. In
the lesson, we start with simple warm ups and vocalizes and then apply techniques to the songs you want to sing. I realize each student is different and I customize the lesson to the student's particular needs. I specialize in classical and music theater, however the basics of singing apply to all styles of music. In addition to working on breathing and technique for singing, we'll also focus on interpretation of the songs you are working on as well as how to overcome performance nervousness. Most students find that they are able to sing with more freedom, less tension and will have more confidence as they progress.

I also teach beginning piano, using the John W. Schaum series.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Lessons in the main room, upright piano

*** Travel Equipment ***
They need to provide a piano or keyboard if I am going to their home.
I have a piano in my home.

*** Specialties ***
I work on using the breath as a fundamental technique for singing. Singing should never hurt. I use a lot of imagery to achieve freedom in singing.

I teach operatic Bel Canto singing to beginners, intermediate, advanced, and touring professionals.
During your first lesson I do a computer analysis of your voice, I find out what your goals are in singing, what your favorite kinds of music are, and I take you in the direction you want to go and show you how to get there in the shortest possible time.

I always record my students so that they know how they sound to others. I also make a CD of them singing to background music if they wish, included in the cost of the lessons for no extra charge.

Learn to sing beautifully, and most important, emotionally.
Learn the parts of your vocal instrument, How each works, How they work together. Develop Breath support (80% of singing).
Learn how to do the Singer's Formant, "Squillo" (that "ringing" sound of professionals).

Learn how to conquer nervousness, learn Resonance, Overtones, Vibrato, How to sing high notes, Learn the "singing vowels", and more.

I would rather teach ...

About Carl
I am very high level, but I also love working with beginners.
I have studied all the major singing teachers of the last 250 years, and my book, "Sing Batter Fast", includes everything I have learned from them, plus my own singing and teaching experience.

During your first lesson I will do a computer analysis of your voice. I find out what your goals are in singing, what your favorite kinds of music are, and I take you in the direction you want to go and show you how to get there in the shortest possible time.

Think you're the only one who feels that terrifying nervousness? Most everyone does, including the biggest stars. The four books I've written on singing are entitled, "SING BETTER FAST", complete vocal technique in brief, "HOW TO CONQUER NERVOUSNESS FOR SINGERS" in which I'll teach you to not only handle, but direct extrem
e nervousness into your singing, making your performance soar. I've also written, "HOW TO GET STANDING OVATIONS FOR SINGERS" to teach you to drive your audience to their feet for a standing ovation, and "ADVANCED SINGING", all available on Amazon.

I always record my students so that they know how they sound to others. I can make a CD of them singing to background music if they wish, included in the cost of the lessons for no additional charge.

Learn to sing beautifully, and most important, emotionally. Learn the parts of your vocal instrument, How each works, How they work together. Develop Breath support (80% of singing). Learn "The Singer's Formant", that "ringing" sound of professionals. Learn learn about Resonance, Overtones, Vibrato, How to sing high notes, Learn the "singing vowels", and more.

I would rather teach singing than eat chocolate, and if you knew how much I like chocolate, you'd know my passion for teaching singing. I've been studying voice since third grade, and singing and teaching singing for eighteen years.

I've had nine singing teachers myself, so I know just how you feel. I get you comfortable, and I listen closely to what you want to do and where you want to go with your singing voice.

My students learn all the important aspects of singing right away, rather than drawing them out over time.

I teach beginner, intermediate, advanced, and professional students of all ages.

I teach all styles of singing, including pop, blues, gospel, classical voice, rock, jazz, scat singing, belting, country and western, and rap.

I teach singing in English, Italian, Spanish, and German.

My Bachelor's and Master's Degrees are from California State University Dominguez Hills.

Put your singing voice in my hands. You'll love what happens.

*** Lesson Details ***
My introductory class includes a computer analysis of your singing voice, then describes the main parts of your vocal instrument, how each works, and how they work together. It teaches you what a song is, and how to sing a song well right away.

During the first lesson I record every student and play it back, both for computer analysis, and also so the student can hear how they sound to others. Remember the first time you heard yourself in a recording and said, "That's not me!" I'll explain that to you, and why it's so important to record yourself and listen to your recordings.

Your lessons are designed toward YOUR goals and desires in singing, and include specific guides for your between lessons practice sessions.

I also teach how to sing karaoke and impress an audience. I've been studying audience psychology for more than 15 years, and MY ENTIRE ORIENTATION IN SINGING IS TO, "DRIVE YOUR AUDIENCE TO THEIR FEET FOR A STANDING OVATION!"

I record CD's with custom labels for students, with their picture, included in the price of the lessons. You can have a CD of yourself singing for you to to play, to give to your family and friends, or perhaps to sell.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Lessons are in my home studio, with recording equipment which we use to record you in lessons and on CD's, high quality studio monitor speakers that let you sound exactly the way you sound to others, high quality recording microphones, computer, control panel, keyboard, and music stands.

*** Travel Equipment ***
When I come to your location for lessons I bring portable equipment to do a computer analysis of the student's voice, and to record and play back my student's progress for analysis and discussion.

*** Specialties ***
I teach singing in English, Italian, Spanish, & German, in all styles, including Pop, Blues, Gospel, Classical, Rock, Jazz, Scat Singing, Belting, Country and Western, and Rap.

The student will develop a strong, healthy technique, learn proper breath control and how to sing with a smooth melodic line.

About Ann
I am President of a growing and flourishing arts organization that specializes in education outreach and commissioning new works. I also tour nationally as a solo/principal soprano and have worked locally with companies like Los Angeles Opera, Opera Pacific, Opera a la Carte and many other Southern California performing arts organizations. I have a BA in vocal performance from Cal Poly Pomona and have worked as a professional singer and teaching artist for the last twenty-five years. In addition to teaching voice in my studio, I am currently working as a teaching artist in several different schools and special education sites throughout Southern California. I love to teach, I love when students make breakthroughs, and I love overcoming challenges and solving problems. I specialize in light opera and musical theater. My philosop
hy is that if a student develops good singing technique, they can sing in any style, from pop music to opera, and keep their voice healthy. No two voices are the same and each of us has our own unique instrument, with the right training that instrument can grow and work at it's optimum. I approach my lessons with humor, putting the student at ease, if the student is comfortable and relaxed, they are more open to learning and their voice will sound much more free and beautiful.

*** Lesson Details ***
The lessons are designed around each student's particular need, especially when it comes to how the student likes to learn, not every person learns the same way, so flexibility is key. The student will be given a solid concept of good breath support, work with matching pitches, singing with a line, producing good tone quality and singing with good diction and projection. The student is ultimately going to learn how to become their own voice teacher, they will learn how to listen to their voice and be able to identify warning signs of vocal trouble and how to prevent and solve problems. After about three months the student will be producing much prettier tone and begin to grasp the concept of breath support. As time moves on, they will build their ability to support their voice, open up their sound so they can get more volume without hurting their instrument and the student will develop a better endurance, being able to sing longer and not tire out too quickly. As the students technique develops and strengthens, they will become more confident. If the student is already performing or has worked to the point where they are ready to start performing, then we will spend more time on interpretation and acting as well as developing a confident stage presence.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Living room: piano, mirror

*** Travel Equipment ***
I only teach from my house and do not travel.

*** Specialties ***
I am classically trained, have been singing professionally for over 20 years and I sing both Opera and Musical Theatre.

I hold a master's in vocal performance from Cal State University, Fullerton and a Bachelor's in vocal performance from USC. I've been teaching voice for over 15 years. As a classical singer, I've had professional experience doing lead roles with various performing groups. This has taught me the level of expertise which is required in the real world of singing. In teaching classical singing, I focus on a breath-based technique where we focus on technical exercises designed to help you breathe more efficiently. We also work a lot on proper vowel formation and strive to eliminate excessive tension in your vocal instrument. Last but not least, we work on interpreting the music (musical phrasing, pronunciation, subtext). My goal is to help you become the best performer you can be. I encourage singers to take part in 2 studio recitals a year as well as various evaluations and competitions, depending on your own personal goals. I am a member of National Association of Teachers of Singing ...

About Shannon
I hold a master's in voice from CSUF and a double bachelor's in piano and voice from USC. With over 15 years of experience as a private voice and piano instructor I have had the privilege of helping many students achieve their musical goals. As a member of MTAC and NATS, I enter many students in Certificate of Merit, Student Evaluation Program, and other festivals. For pianists, I work on songs, scales, theory, ear training and sometimes improvisation. For singers, we work on breathing and resonance techniques and songs that reinforce good singing habits but that are also engaging for the singer. We also work on sight singing and theory.Though my training is largely in classical music, I do work on other styles with my students.

*** Lesson Details ***
For pianists, I recommend the Premier Alfred piano course, or for older beginners
/adults, we use Adult Piano Adventures. I also recommend purchasing a scale/technique book and a theory book.

For singers, please bring a recording device (phone is ok) so that you may later practice the exercises which we learn in the lesson.

*** Studio Equipment ***
I have a Yamaha baby grand piano as well as an electronic piano in my studio. For budding pianists, I offer instruction with Piano Maestro software.

I highly recommend Sarabeth to anyone interested in singing, whether you have already had some background in voice or you are just starting out.

Sarabeth is a truly amazing voice teacher!!! She led me step by step through many vocal exercises and taught me many a great classical song! Her patience and encouragement were ever present at each lesson as I stumbled through the classical songs which were written in other languages.

I have SMA type 1-2, a severely debilitating and progressive disease, and my lung capacity was 24% of normal when Sarabeth started teaching me. Under her guidance, I was able to increase my lung capacity to 28%! Believe me when I say that this is not supposed to happen to people with SMA. In general our lung capacities continue to decrease as the disease progresses until we need to be placed under mechanical ventilation. The most common mode of death for people with SMA is respiratory failure.

I am deeply saddened that Sarabeth is moving away to Los Angeles and will no longer be able to be my singing teacher, but wishing her the best of luck there!!! I will always remember her as the incredibly wonderful teacher she is!
