About Ray
My name is Ray, I'm 30 years old, and was born in Queens, NY. I studied classical music for many years as a youngster at the Aaron Copeland School of Music college preparatory program. During this program I was introduced to Jazz, and around the same time began experimenting with synthesizers. I went on to study Electronic Production & Design at Berklee College of Music in Boston, and quickly became a very sought after studio musician and performer.
I've been successfully teaching many instruments and proficiency levels for 16+ years now, and can say with pride that teaching is my passion, and I anticipate it being a very important part of the rest of my life.
I enjoy reading nonfiction books on science, math, and philosophy, and am building a career as a pop music producer.
*** Lesson Details ***
My music lessons
1. I have a very deep understanding of music, sound, and theory, and feel music to be one of my native languages.
2. I have devoted considerable amounts of time and energy studying neuroscience, which has greatly improved my understanding of the learning process.
3. I have been blessed with the tremendous amount of patience necessary to guide a student through the necessary steps it takes to learn at whatever pace is optimal, in order to maximize the efficiency of the learning process for each individual.
*** Equipment ***
Students must have their own instrument, and purchase their own materials (books, etc). From time to time I make my way to a local music shop, and am happy to purchase materials for reimbursement.
*** Specialties ***
Classical music is my background, and what I believe to be the most cognitively and emotionally fulfilling style of music to study and play. That said, I'm also a big fan of pop music (as well as other genres), and encourage students to enjoy learning their favorite songs from the radio.
My understanding of music theory is extremely thorough, and I'm happy to incorporate as much or as little of it as the student's interest dictates, nevertheless maintaining the minimal amount of theory necessary to get the most out of learning music and the instrument.
Thanks for checking out my profile! Please contact me with any additional questions you may have, as well as to inquire about day/time availability. I'll do my best to get back to you right away (usually within a few hours).

My son and daughter both take from Ray and they love him!!! My daughter started with him after she had had 2 other teachers and she improved immediately. She loves going to Ray because he teaches her to play the songs that she likes. Now she plays so many songs for memory!! My son loves going to piano and is always excited to see Ray.

My primary goal with all of my students is to help them make great music that is true to themselves. I also try to stick with a sound-before-symbol approach to learning music. What this means for my teaching is a focus on training both the ears and technique. I always prefer a more personalized approach to teaching, working with students to find repertoire that speaks to them and improves their musicality and technique.
About Isaac
As I’ve developed my teaching style over the last ten years, I’ve found myself zeroing in on a few key qualities I want to cultivate in my students and in my self including great ears, a high proficiency on the instrument, and a strong and interactive sense of musicality. At the center of my practice is a devotion to personal growth and discovery. For myself, I find this by teaching in a variety of contexts from teaching in classrooms at a private school to sharing volunteer masterclasses around the world. No matter the context it is my goal to share with my students and those who will listen the lessons I have learned through music and to help them uncover their own. As such I am constantly striving to inspire personal connections to the music and a stronger sense of community
My experience

My students have gone on to win statewide competitions such as positions in the All State jazz band and orchestra. Some have participated in music festivals around the country such as the Newport Jazz Festival and others have continued on to study at the collegiate level at schools including McGill University and Northwestern University.

I was lucky enough to study with some of the greatest jazz and classical bassists during my time in music academia. With their guidance and my knowledge of body mechanics (via my studies in exercise science) I was able to create a practice routine that helped me advance my own abilities efficiently, without spending hours upon hours in the practice room.
While practicing and self improvement is part of the journey and the joy of becoming a musician, a student shouldn't have to submit themselves to hours of boring repetition that could lead to injury or loss of interest in that instrument.
I aim to create fun, creative challenges which the student must rise to meet in order to improve and succeed. I hope to instill the ability to analyze and tackle problems through smart and efficient programming that can be applied to all aspects of life.
The double bass is one of the most difficult and rewarding instruments to master and I want to pass the skill and knowledge of my craft to ...
About Chris
Regardless of age or skill level, I'll construct an appropriate program, personalized to helping the student tackle the challenge at hand. Ultimately, this is a valuable skill-set that easily transfers to all aspects of life. I encourage students to explore many facets, while maintaining a fun learning environment focusing on progression.

I have studied upright bass for 20 years. I am classically trained and studied under Barry Lieberman, former assistant principal of the Los Angeles Philharmonic. I went on to study jazz at the prestigious William Paterson University. I then spent the next 13 years gigging and teaching in a variety of situations in New York City and now Los Angeles. I have played a full spectrum of music on the upright and love to impart that knowledge to my students!

With my background in classical, jazz, and contemporary music, we can approach the upright bass in whatever way a student may want. Fundamentals and time feel are most important. Sound production and musical intent would also be main focuses. I have comprehensive knowledge of the standard classical and jazz repertoire, and can easily develop an effective plan of study for any student, at any level. I also write a fair amount of music, so composition could be a component of lessons. I would love to teach anyone who has interest in playing bass, no experience whatsoever needed!
About Philip
I have spent the last fifteen years building both my classical and jazz repertoire, so I have a great idea of how to build a plan of study for any student of any level. Despite my experience in these two well-established music traditions, I am a massive proponent of listening to and experiencing as many types of music as possible. Once we work through technique, we could get into more contemporary music, or virtually anything that has art
