I teach reading, "proper"classical technique and how to play with emotion!

About Mike
I have taught private guitar, piano, bass and drum lessons since the late 70s in Salt Lake City, where I majored in jazz guitar performance, and since 1980 in Los Angeles. I make the lessons fun. Some of my students have received college scholarships and won cash prizes for music contests. All of them had fun while learning and improving on their instruments.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am very enthusiastic and can teach students how to read. If they do not want to read music, they can learn to play by ear. I can also show them where to put their fingers. During piano lessons, I often accompany students on guitar and suggest a scale for improvisation, so they can play the blues. During drum lessons, I often play bass so they can learn to groove.

*** Travel Equipment ***
They should have their own instrument and a music stand.

*** Spec
ialties ***
I specialize in jazz improvisation on piano and guitar.
I also teach recreational guitar and piano for adults, including classical and blues styles.
I coach bass players and drummers in playing stylistically correct grooves for jazz, rock and latin music.

Most excellent first guitar lesson to where we actually played a song together. I'm blown away. What fun! I only hope I can remember the chords when I practice on my own, and I look forward to my next lesson with Mike. I can already tell I'll be signing up for more lessons. Great teacher, and I can say that because I tried to learn some years ago with another instructor, and he made me feel like I'd just never get it and may as well give up. Mike erased all that negativity for me in 30 minutes. Thanks, Mike!

Introduction to the classical guitar with notation and tablature study to support the learning of the instrument.

About Paul
Hi! My name is Paul and I'd love to share the joy of playing the guitar with you! I have been a professional musician and teacher for over 20 years. I know much about playing the guitar and being an artist. I am passionate about music, which is why lessons with me are so fun. I know how to customize a program for the motivated student that will bring out the potential of the student at all levels. I will give the student a complete and practical program for advancement and help he or she discover their own talents at a pace that works for them. I even on occasion will conduct blues jams and other challenges such as recording and how to do a You Tube video production that will give the student a chance to use their developing skills by themselves and with others. Here is feedback from one of the parents of a student of mine:

"Alex progressed much further with guitar than he did with piano and he actually got to the point where he enjoyed playing on his own. That was a great accomplishment and very impressive to me...you helped instill some discipline and over the course of your instruction, Alex learned a lot. You were always positive with him, even when that was difficult, and I admired that and still appreciate it. I always looked forward on Sunday mornings to hearing the material the two of you were working on and I know he enjoyed his lesson with you."

*** Lesson Details ***
As a teacher, one of my biggest goals is to keep my students motivated and get them enthused about their music and committed to daily practice. I will strive to inspire my students, and ensure that all the while, they are having the time of their life! Practice and commitment are key. Students' curricula vary according to the student's goals and strengths and weaknesses. All students will learn how to play in tune and in time, know their fundamentals, work with music theory and learn how to use written materials. (And they will have fun learning!) More advanced students can learn about blues and jazz improvisation, slide guitar and also participate in blues jams with other students, record, and You Tube video production.

*** Studio Equipment ***
All kinds of guitar and bass guitar equipment and portable hard disc recording equipment for student demo recordings.

*** Travel Equipment ***
Students need a well functioning guitar, music stand, guitar tuner and metronome. Students will also need a notebook to organize written lessons I will hand out.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in blues and jazz mostly, but also have vast knowledge of rock music from it's blues roots to the more modern styles. I also can play in country style, and I play blues slide guitar.

Great Teacher

I played a little guitar throughout my life but was lacking an understanding of how the instrument works. I found myself strumming a few cords here and there but never with focus or improvement. After only three lessons with Paul, I'm now jamming to rock and the blues!Paul was quickly able to access my level of playing and I'm now understanding how the fretboard works and most importantly having lots of fun during lessons and practice. He teaches with passion and doesn't simply open a book but rather instills his lifelong experience and philosophy into lessons. Many can teach the mechanics of guitar but with Paul, you'll also understand the soul.

Paul Rocks !!

I just had my 2nd lesson with Paul and felt inspired to write a review. I have wanted to learn guitar for many, many years now. In the past, I have always gotten frustrated -or bored- and gave up before I ever even learned a chord. Our 1st lesson, Paul started me with some very basic mechanics. It was just the right amount of information to keep me interested and challenged but not so much that I was overwhelmed the 1st week. From just 15 -30 minutes a day of practicing, I have already gained some flexibility in my fingers and am beginning to have a "feel" for the instrument. I have seen more improvement and learned more from Paul and the exercises he has given me in just 2 lessons than I have collectively ever learned from any other teacher in the past or any book or online tutorial. His knowledge of the instrument, as well as music theory, is vast and he knows how to break it down into digestible bits for maximum benefit to the student. So I am not only learning to play guitar, I am also being introduced to music theory in a very easy to understand manner. He is very patient and creates a safe and supportive environment in which to learn comfortably. I am SO glad I found him!!! His way of teaching really works or me ~ I feel hopeful, inspired and motivated for the first time ever in attempting to learn this instrument. Thank you Paul and Thank You Take Lessons !!

Brian has a degree in Classical Guitar Performance from California State University at Los Angeles and has been teaching classical guitar to students of all ages in the Los Angeles area for more than 20 years. Brian's special talent as a teacher of this challenging instrument is a unique ability that combines patience with enthusiasm and a deep appreciation of the genre to help his students learn, improve and achieve mastery of technique and develop their understanding of the repertoire. Students of all ages are welcome!

Below see Brian's teaching philosophy in his own words:

MY APPROACH:
I focus on four areas that I think are essential to being a good music teacher:

* the uniqueness of each student;
* the fact that enjoyment (fun!) maximizes learning;
* the importance of proper technique and an understanding of music theory to build self-confidence;
* the development of musicianship through performance.

About Brian
Brian discovered his talent and passion for teaching while still in college, and has been teaching guitar and piano in Southern California for over 20 years. Gifted at teaching students of all ages and abilities, he combines patience, creativity, imagination and boundless enthusiasm with solid professional training and experience. Brian also has over 10 years experience teaching piano and guitar to blind and autistic students.

A lifelong musician, Brian received his first musical training at the age of 4 and 5 years when his actor/singer Dad and musically talented Grandma taught him to sing and play the mandolin. He began piano lessons at age 5, and formal guitar instruction at the age of 10 years.

By the time he was a 14-year-old high school student, Brian was performing as lead guitarist in rock bands around Southern California
, developing mastery of rock guitar and blues performance and improvisation. Brian went on to complete a Bachelor's Degree in Classical Guitar Performance from California State University, Los Angeles.

Passionate about all kinds of music, Brian's studies include choral music and conducting, Gregorian chant (at the Monastery of St. Pierre de Solesmes, France), and Master Classes with Andrés Segovia and Christopher Parkening. In 1984, he participated as a member of the Honor Choir for the ceremonies of the Olympic Games in Los Angeles, which included recording of original music by Philip Glass for the Olympic Games under the direction of David L. Wolper and Mr. Glass.

As a jazz guitarist, Brian continues to grow musically in association with his colleagues of the Naomi Jazz Group, and other close musical friends who include students of the late, great Ted Greene.

MY APPROACH:
I focus on four areas that I think are essential to being a good music teacher:

• the uniqueness of each student;
• the fact that enjoyment (fun!) maximizes learning;
• the importance of proper technique and an understanding of music theory to build self-confidence;
• the development of musicianship through performance.

EACH STUDENT IS UNIQUE:
My first interest with each new student is to discover how he or she learns, and then to apply appropriate teaching techniques to maximize their potential. I gear my lesson plans to the individual and strive to optimize the learning potential of the student.

ENJOYMENT MAXIMIZES LEARNING:
In a lesson with me you can expect to never be bored, to laugh a lot, learn a lot, be positively engaged emotionally and challenged intellectually. I believe that learning is maximized when the student is enjoying the experience, and is faced with challenges appropriate to their skill level. I aim to make learning music fun, choosing musical selections to learn in the style and genre that relate to the student's interests and aspiration.

TECHNIQUE & UNDERSTANDING OF MUSIC THEORY TO BUILD SELF-CONFIDENCE:
When my students perform in concerts, recitals, juries, auditions, recording sessions or simply for friends and family, they have self-confidence because they know precisely the "how" and "why" of everything required to perform well. My goal with students is to build a solid foundation in instrumental technique and thorough understanding of Music Theory at their appropriate level.

PERFORMANCE:
On a monthly basis, all my students practice performing pieces they are working on during the lesson time, with family/friends as an audience if desired and appropriate, and/or using digital recording to help the student develop a critical ear for their own playing.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Music stands, guitar/s and guitar stands, Dynarelle cushion, footrests, Korg 88 fully--weighted digital keyboard, Zoom H4 digital recorder.

As well, I have guitars and equipment both for teaching and performance of various styles, as below. Students will have the opportunity to learn about, play and become familiar with any of these instruments/equipment according to their interests and skill levels.

GUITARS:

CLASSICAL: Ramirez Model 1A Classical (professional concert level instrument)
Cordoba (teaching/practice instrument)
Hohner Acoustic (electric)

ROCK: Fender Stratocaster (pre-CBS)
Shechter Omen6
Shechter Elite Series C1

FOLK: Martin (steel string)
Dobro

JAZZ: Oscar Schmidt by Washburn (hollow body electric)
Gibson SG (electric)

OTHER EQUIPMENT:

AMPS: Fender Twin reverb
Pevey practice amp
Rock amp

Boss GT8 Effects Pedal

*** Travel Equipment ***
Guitar stands, guitar/s, Zoom H4 digital recorder. Generally I do not transport my Korg 88 keyboard to the student's home for lessons, but I can if necessary. However, I do require that piano students have their own piano/keyboard or at least reliable access to one for practice between lessons.

Guitar students should also have their own guitar. I can advise on appropriate instruments and can help students find a suitable guitar for their learning level and price range.

I have approximately taken ten or twelve lessons. I started from scratch, and Brian's input and guidance has helped me to move along pretty fast in my learning. My ear is becoming more selective. My fingers are more and more flexible. My idea of learning piano was to do so, in order to play for me and maybe one or two more people. I've learned with Brian that even if that is the case, I must still handle myself, as if I am going to be part of a band. This is teaching me the importance of counting and keeping the rhythm for me and for others. It basically helps me to have a structure. Thank you Brian

Basic classical guitar technique, right hand finger-picking technique, left hand posture, fretboard reading

About Gio
Hello there this is Gio L.

I'm a professional guitarist, performer, composer, instructor, international clinician, webinarist, with 20 years or professional experience in music education & live performances. Also, I'm an Italian teacher see " Ciao bella" for more details and an Adobe Photoshop teacher, see "iPhoto' for more details.

I was Raised in the coastal city of Bari, Italy, I've picked up my first guitar at the age of 10 and have not stopped playing music ever since.

My training as a musician has taken me all over the world starting from Italy to a Mediterranean tour, to a Cruise Liner in Brazil to Hollywood CA,. I came to Los Angeles to attend the Musician Institute (Hollywood, CA) where I've graduated with honors from the Guitar Institute of Technology, there I had the pleasure to work as a tutor during my scholars
hip program. I'm an active musician, music is my life. Often I have the pleasure to travel abroad where I give guitar clinics and perform my music, I like to think of myself as a citizen of the world. I've been teaching professionally in S. California ever since 1998, I reserve the option for in persons one-on-one lessons only for my best students, again, music matters to me. During these last 16 years I've secured many teaching positions like at the Los Angeles valley College extension program, at the Los Alamitos Conservatory of music, at Mars Music learning Center, at the YMCA etc. though, as I've already mentioned, the best one will continue on with me. I've much more to share with you regarding my professional life, my discography ect. but let's talk about lessons now.

What I care the most is to make sure that you'll receive the best private education that money can buy. As I've stated on my headline, If you're serious about music, if you're ready to learn the skills, expand your knowledge, achieve your goals, then, I'm your man. I've learned that we all have different approaches when it comes to studies. Learning how play an instrument is a fun but challenging process. I'm not gonna lie to you, you need to work on it, plain and simple !
I'll provide you with written curriculum or I'll indicate the right book to be purchased, I'll monitor your progress and I'll make sure to get the best out of you. My experience let me face any situation with the confidence that only the know-how can give you (16 years of professional experience will do that!). I have wrote curriculum aimed to the "Just as an hobby" type of student as well as comprehensive once for professional players that want to specialize on a specific style. In both cases it doesn't change what you have to do, practice ! To end with I've transcribed thousands of songs, It only takes me few minutes to put on paper your favorite song, wouldn't it be great to be able to read and play the music you love ? You'll be in good hands regardless of your goals in music

*** Lesson Details ***
My teaching philosophy is to make sure that you enjoy your learning process. I'm a positive person, I believe in encouraging the student, every step you'll take toward your goal shall be acknowledge and awarded, I've been there, I know what it takes. Practice is a crucial aspect of this process, I'll motivate you, I want you be be successful in your learning journey, but, again, I need you to work on it, it won't happen otherwise.

Are you ready ?

*** Studio Equipment ***
The student has to provide his/her own instrument. A small guitar amp is provided for electric guitarist, so there is NO need to bring your own

*** Specialties ***

Excellent instructor!

I first met Gio at Los Angeles Valley College. I enrolled in the beginning guitar class and enjoyed it so much that I formed a group class with two other classmates for a once per week group lesson with Gio. I have found him to be an excellent guitar instructor who is very patient and complimentary to the student’s strengths. I appreciate the manner in which Gio approaches teaching guitar, which is a combination of constructive criticism and challenging material. Gio provides the foundation for the student to build upon and that has given me the confidence to continue learning how to play the guitar.

Last year, I had the opportunity to study with Christian at CSU Northridge. Christian is one of the finest musicians I have come across in the years that I have been playing music. Not only does he have impressive skills with the guitar, he also has knowledge in the history of the guitar and music theory. When he was studying at CSUN, I was able to have some lessons with Christian on a baroque piece that was giving me trouble. First, I'd like to mention how patient he was with me when I was frustrated and lost in the music. Also, I was surprised at how much he knew about the music as he explained what was going on in the piece and why. Oh... did I mention that I had some AWESOME results after ONE lesson??? You can expect a personalized plan to achieve your guitar goals, whether they are for playing for personal enjoyment or preparing for the concert stage. As a recent conservatory graduate, I can assist with applications, providing you with valuable insight into the college audition process. My teaching philosophy centers around developing a passion for music through the guitar in a systematic way. My goal as an instructor is to make every stage of development expressive, musical, and easy.

About Sean
Welcome, I'm Sean and I'm excited to get started on your personalized lesson package!

I currently live in Los Angeles, where I just received my masters degree in classical guitar performance from USC's Thornton School of Music. Through the program I had the opportunity to study with Scott Tennant of the Grammy winning Los Angeles Guitar Quartet, along with maestro Pepe Romero. Recently I was awarded first prize at the 2015 American String Teachers Association 'Aron Green' guitar competition, and have done recordings for Guitar Salon International, KUSC radio at LACMA's Sundays Live Series, and soundtracks for documentaries such as 'Revolution Food.' Now that I have completed my degree program I am eager to start teaching and performing more regularly. I have enjoyed teaching consistently for the past 8 years, which has ranged from Kind
ergarten classrooms to one on one college level instruction.

I started teaching guitar at the local music store when I was in High School. After graduating I went to The Hartt School in Connecticut to study classical guitar where I had the opportunity to teach non-majors in my program. During the summers I worked as a music director for an arts camp in East Hampton, NY. This job included a great deal of teaching kids who were total beginners how to not only play an instrument, but play in group settings with each other. I then moved to Los Angeles for my masters degree in classical guitar at USC. Through USC I worked for their community outreach program, teaching classroom guitar to middle school students and general music for kindergarten through third grade classes. Alongside this I began teaching at a music center in San Marino on the weekends, which I still currently teach at. This June and July I will also be traveling to Maine to serve as guitar faculty at the New England Music Camp.

About Diego
As an active musician, I am the current Guitar Ensemble conductor from the Van Nuys United Methodist Church. Current students perform for an audience as a soloist whenever they are ready, and have the chance to play with the Guitar Ensemble too. We play songs from popular artist and bands such as Ed sheeran, Imagine dragons, Hillsong United, The Chainsmokers, 21 pilots, Charlie Puth, and many more!!. Our Guitar Ensemble is compose by beginner, intermediate, and advance students, which means that you will play notes according to your level.
