My high school daughter has received trumpet lessons from Jonathan for over a year. He is an excellent instructor, very knowledgeable and patient. As a school teacher, he knows how to work with kids in a way that gives him an advantage over a non-teacher performing artist. We've done lessons both in person and online. I'd highly recommend Jonathan to any parent looking to have their middle school/high school student take private lessons.

What an amazing teacher! My 10-yr daughter has been taking lessons with Amy for over a year. Amy is consistently positive and encouraging. She is always prompt and well-prepared, and she provides helpful resources. We were a little hesitant about doing online lessons, but Amy is attentive to posture, bow hold, tone, and volume. It's hard to imagine that an in-person lesson could be any better. I've been very pleased with Amy as a teacher, the online lesson format, and our daughter's progress. My daughter's growing love for cello is evidence that Amy is a talented musician and instructor.

We adore, Miss Amy! She is incredibly competent and even more incredibly loving! She teaches with nothing but positive energy. It's easier to find errors and note them. I can't even attempt to work at finding all the good in some of our lesson time that Amy can find! She finds those tiny "correct" and "right" things and that leaves our two sons energized and feeling confident about what they are able to accomplish - even when the difficulty of the song has discouraged them. Amy always finds a way of putting in a section that makes them shine.

This is our fourth year with online lessons from Miss Amy. I mention this all the time but we have had our sons complimented and one mentor in our local symphony even asked told our son that his playing has improved with his online lessons.

We can never ask for a better teacher. Miss Amy is hands down one of our family's most favorite people in the entire world.

Thank you, Miss Amy for being so positive, for being incredibly forgiving, loving, interested and letting our boys learn at their pace. You have been instrumental in their ability to feel proud of the work they are able to do in music.

If you are worried that you may not find a good fit for online lessons please give Miss Amy a try! She is able to get so much learning across the distance that it makes us feel she is sitting in the room next to us!

I went in hoping to relearn the basics of cello. I have a lot of experience, but my fundamentals, primarily, how I held my bow and cello, were extremely poor. Cello tutors that I've had in the past have struggled with the awkward place that would put my cello skills if you thought of progressing skill as being in a linear fashion, but she's been great. She's did a really good job at tailoring her lessons to my specific skillset and abilities. Would recommend.

Cello:
A bowed or plucked string instrument with four strings tuned in perfect fifths. The strings from low to high are generally tuned to C2, G2, D3 and A3, an octave lower than the viola. It is a member of the violin family of musical instruments, which also includes the violin and viola and the double bass. The cello is used as a solo musical instrument, as well as in chamber music ensembles (e.g., string quartet), string orchestras, as a member of the string section of symphony orchestras, and some types of rock bands. It is the second-largest and second lowest (in pitch) bowed string instrument in the modern symphony orchestra, the double bass being the largest and having the lowest (deepest) pitch. My lessons always start out with the basics! We start out by learning notes by plucking the strings and then the bow is soon incorporated. The goal is to eventually learn all the notes on the fretboard and also learning how to read and play chords. As the student progresses ...

Ms. Karen did a pretty good job, she had ideas for the lesson and provided ideas for the next lesson. She went out of her way to help me with this new idea---------"music" and "reading music." If there was any short fall in the lesson it was on my side and my preparation failings. I have no problem recommending Ms. Karen to others. Regards, JC

Extremely knowledgeable! Karen is a superb guitar instructor. Honestly, I was struggling. Discouraged! She helped me understand my strengths and weaknesses, and moved me from beginner to intermediate in a matter of months. If you’re getting tired of learning from YouTube and smart phone apps, let Karen kick start your guitar playing. You’ll be glad you did. Thanks Karen!!

I am a fourth year cello performance major at the University of Georgia and have been playing the cello for over twelve years. I have experience performing and practicing in a variety of ensembles and genres (i.e. orchestras, chamber ensembles, jazz, rock/jam bands, bluegrass, pop). I plan to incorporate music theory and ear training into lessons to help my students become more familiar with their instruments and repertoire. I want to encourage innovation and creativity in each of my students so that they can feel comfortable approaching any musical opportunity.

About Jordi

I am in my final semester completing my degree in cello performance with a jazz minor (bass) at the University of Georgia. I have been playing classical cello for over twelve years and bass for three. While my musical upbringing primarily revolved around classical music, my main creative outlets in

Jordi has been incredibly helpful in guiding me on my cello playing journey! I especially appreciate that we have been able to tailor the lessons to my needs and interests. I am an adult beginner interested in learning a mix of classical and non-classical music, and I am grateful that Jordi is very competent playing and teaching multiple genres. It's awesome to have an instructor who plays music in multiple contexts; I feel understood! Lessons themselves are always great as well-- I leave class with a clear list of things to practice and a plan for how to practice each of those things. But even though the lessons are productive, the environment is always very relaxed and patient, and I think that has been really supportive of my progress. Thanks, Jordi! :)

I have been taking lessons with Jordi for over one year now and I can honestly say it has been one of the best choices I have made. My playing has improved immensely and his patient and kind way of explaining both practical techniques and theory makes the learning fun.

I cant recommend Jordi enough!
Timothy
As an adult learner with no prior cello experience (or music education at all, for that matter), I was somewhat skeptical of taking remote lessons. I started working with Jordi 8 months ago, and I can say with full confidence that my concerns have completely disappeared. His deep knowledge and passion of music became immediately clear at the beginning of our lessons as he patiently walked me through the basics of cello technique and music theory. Since then, he has continued to push me to improve myself, and my enjoyment of playing continues to grow along with my skills. While I still have a long way to go, I couldn't be happier with the progress I've made as a direct result of Jordi's instruction. I HIGHLY recommend him to anyone searching for a fantastic cello instructor!

I am an early intermediate level cello player. At the outset of the year I had set some very specific goals that I hoped to achieve and set out to find a teacher that would help me achieve those. Michael has done just that. I have taken lessons now from Michael for about 6 months and cannot say enough good things about him. He is extremely knowledgeable. He is always well prepared, and ready to make progress on advancing my skills with the instrument. He is patient and ready to work within my own limitations. He is always encouraging and positive, and constructive in his critique. I would highly recommend Michael, whether you are a beginner or a seasoned cellist.

"In 10 months, Susanna has taken my 6th grader, a beginner, to acceptance into our region's youth symphony, and her school is putting her in 8th grade orchestra instead of 7th grade because she's so far advanced. Susanna accomplished this with the perfect balance of serious hard work and fun, done with a smile, kind words, and an uncanny ability to pinpoint what the student is able to improve at the right time. We're also starting younger brother on violin with Susanna in a couple of weeks, because she's great."

"Makala hit it off with our third-grader right off the bat, and she was a great sport about meeting the whole family at the first lesson. She put Josh at ease, evaluated what he already knew without making him uncomfortable, and got right to work improving his fundamentals in a way that seemed to get him really motivated. We're extending our series - thanks Makala!"

"We love Mr. Heaton. My son is 13 and on the autism spectrum and so focus can be hard for him, he was really struggling in school based orchestra because they couldn't give him one on one attention. He also struggles with fine motor delays (which is why we chose a string instrument). We've been doing lessons with Nicholas for almost a year now. Nicholas always takes his time with my child and is extremely patient. My son has gained SO much confidence since we began taking these private lessons. They work on not just learning to play cello but learning how to really understand/read the music and making sure that the techniques he's learning (hand positions, ways of sitting and moving) are all exactly what he needs to progress successfully in his orchestra and going forward. My son enjoys his lessons and I feel like we always get our money's worth. I can't wait to see where he will be another year from now working so closely with such an amazing musician and teacher."

Is My Cello Too Small? How to Know You've Found the Right Fit

At some point, your young cellist will grow out of their instrument. Growing out of an instrument is an awkward time for everyone involved and it is not something that happens suddenly. What are the Hardest Cello Pieces? How to Get from Beginner to Advanced Player

As a beginner I often told myself I would know I am a really great cellist when I could play Rimsky-Korsakov’s Flight of the Bumblebee at full speed. To my young ears, this simply had to be one of the hardest cello pieces with its high range, chromaticism, and famously fast tempo. As my musical career continued I worked on these and other skills to reach a point I could begin learning the piece confidently, and it was only a matter of time before I achieved my goal. Of course, this wasn’ …
