Violin Teacher's Certificate - Sibelius Academy, Finland Suzuki Teacher Training - Marylhurst University, OR
Classical and Suzuki options - starting Suzuki students as early as 3 yrs old. Teaching Suzuki Books 1-11. Beginners, intermediate and advanced levels I am using classical method books including Kayser, Wohlfart, Kreutzer, Mazas, Dont and Paganini Caprices with students looking for more rigorous studies and more advanced skills. Keeping music and technique in balance - Learn how to enjoy performing - Find your own highest potential - Fall in love with music
*** Lesson Details *** I am friendly and like to inspire my students to find their own best potential. Suitable challenges are fun and needed to keep the personal progress going on. "No suffering in my studio!" means that the process of learning needs to be enjoyabl
e but at the same time I am asking the students to give their best effort. Setting frequent goals in form of group classes and recitals keeps us in full sail and teach us to enjoy the act of playing both alone and in front of friendly audience. I teach both classical and Suzuki methods. I like to keep my students musically well fed and encourage exploring music reading and music theory next to practical skills. I stir my students toward high standard personal level in their studies, an ingredient from Finnish cultural climate.
Are wondering why every time you hit a certain note, it squeaks, or crunches, or sounds glassy? Or maybe you can't quite read the notes. Perhaps you are no stranger to the instrument, but need improvement of musicianship, expression, etc. Let me help you master the skills you're trying to achieve. With my help, you can make breathtaking music!
I grew up in a household of 9 where music was always center stage. We would sing as a family in different venues and were often called the VonTrapp family. I have enjoyed singing and performing from a young age. I began studying flute at age 8, after scoring highest in the harmony listening exam and began formal violin lessons at the age of 9. I studied all genres including, fiddle, classical, musical theater and 20th century. I have continued to study violin since then and have performed in many orchestras and small groups, such as Honor Orchestra, the Paradise Symphony, the Yuba College Orchestra, Yuba-Sutter Oratorio Society Orchestra and more. I have been concert master and first stand in many of these. I have also soloed in many and have been the first violinist in quartets for countless weddings and other events. I have also played
in numerous pit orchestras for musicals. I have been in choirs and soloing since I can remember. I have performed and soloed in choirs such as the Yuba-Sutter Oratorio Society, CSUS Chamber Choir, the CSUS Women's Choir and more. I have toured to Victoria, Montreal, Ottowa, Oregon and Washington. I have also been in opera productions such as The Magic Flute, Peleas and Melisande and Die Fledermaus (The Bat) with CSUS Opera. I am a recent recipient of the Saturday Club Scholarship, a prestigious award, and have won many competitions (some repeatedly) both vocally and with violin, such as the Tri-County Competition, Young Artist Competitions, and the California Soloist and Ensemble Competitions. Additionally, I have performed musical theater repertoire and have performed as lead in musicals such as Beauty and the Beast and Into the Woods. I have also soloed repeatedly with the Yuba College jazz band and at churches all around. I have earned my Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from CSU Sacramento. I have my Associates Degrees in both Music and Early Childhood Education from Yuba College. Additionally, I have obtained my certificate of completion of training from Music Together, an organization which trains teachers to teach Basic Music Competence (both in tonality and meter), and am currently teaching this curriculum. I have been teaching music privately for over ten years to all ages, genders and abilities. Additionally, I have taught ages 0-5 years in a preschool setting for 7 years and am extremely familiar with developmentally appropriate practices for both preschool and school age, as I am a site supervisor at a child development center with a preschool and after school program. I have had many adult students as well and encourage adults to enrich their lives with music at any age! Additionally, I have experience teaching parent child classes and am familiar with how to teach to the particular needs of each family and student. I'm extremely excited and looking forward to growing as a professional, both teaching and performing, in both the areas of violin and voice and to be instrumental in your musical growth too; I can't wait to share my passion with you and to ignite your passion for music too!
*** Lesson Details *** I have been teaching since 2002 and have loved every minute of it! I teach all ages. I tailor my style of teaching to each student's goals and to what works for you. If you want to learn Taylor Swift music, I won't be giving you arias. On the other hand, if you wish to study classically, I have repertoire appropriate for you. I teach fiddle, classical, orchestral, 20th century and more for violin students and have experience with jazz, classical, musical theater, pop, religious, spiritual, choral, 20th century and more vocally. For violin students, I use the Suzuki method as a pushing off point, a tried and true method used in many countries across the world, though I have other repertoire including fiddle, orchestra, small ensemble, solo, concertos, Christmas, and more. For vocalist, I start with the book, Adventures in Singing. I also have warm ups and exercises to keep you vocally healthy. I will teach you anything you want to learn! I also teach how to read music, theory and harmony, depending on your interest and tailored to your current skill level. I am encouraging and knowledgeable. I will meet you at your current level, be that beginner, intermediate, or advanced. My students can look forward to being encouraged and growing through their time with me. I don't have preset ideas about where you should be in 3-6 months, nor do I have a one size fits all teaching style. Instead, I will work with you individually so that you will become the best musician you can be, meet your goals, and increase your enjoyment and appreciation for music.

Of course, every student must have a pencil and come ready to have fun learning! :)

I have been working with Kim for a few weeks and I have learned a tremendous amount and can hear the difference every week as I progress. I enjoy the process she applies to keep it positive and fun yet learn the proper fundamentals required to perform well. I actually tried a few vocal teachers and Kim with her wisdom and experience made it simple who to go with!!

Ensures one has a strong foundation of violin knowledge. Patient and kind. Love this instructor!

Kim can teach you or your child, no matter where you are!
I was 30 when I decided to rekindle my love for the violin. I hadn’t played since before YouTube was invented, and I was skeptical about learning violin online. By the first lesson, Kim had already corrected poor habits I didn’t know I had, just after hearing me play a few scales. She adjusted her teaching style to my personality so seamlessly that I felt I was just getting pointers from a dear violinist friend whose advice is always spot-on. Weekly practice never felt like work, because Kim tailored my assignments to my goals. Before I knew it, I was playing complex concertos I could never do in high school. I started out being able to play just one major scale. Within 10 months, I was in Suzuki Book 4!
I can’t say enough about Kim’s expert teaching skills. During a sight-reading of a very difficult piece, I became so frustrated that I wanted to stop the lesson and try again later. Kim encouraged me until I had gotten all the way through, and pointed out what I could learn from my performance. When I had time to calm down, I realized that Kim can do this for any student; adults, children, and adults whose inner child throws a tantrum when they’re frustrated by a musical challenge. :-)
Teachers like Kim are rare, and worth their weight in gold. I learned so much more than violin fundamentals through my lessons with her. I’m convinced Kim can teach anyone, of any age—even through an online platform.
The viola is a deep and powerful instrument, the violin's older sibling!
Michael has worked with kids for 10 years in schools and arts programs to find fun and their best self through performance. He has taught orchestra, chamber music, jazz band and music theory in the public schools, while performing in local ensembles in and around the city. He also has studied drama, voice and movement and believes all these skills help in expressing yourself--no matter what pieces you want to play!
In addition to working with students K-12, he also loves working with adults. I try to provide a nurturing atmosphere for someone trying revive or discover previously hidden musical interests!
*** Lesson Details *** We begin with what we love. The student usually chooses one of his or her favorite songs to interpret. Later, we add music, usually from the classical or jazz fields, that build our skills and help us f
eel successful. All technique is based on real music. Learning scales, keys and music theory become part of the music. By the end of 6 months, we will have a "repertoire" of several songs that express our best self!
The viola is a beautiful instrument, full of warmth and depth for those willing to explore it. Viola lessons include theory, technique, repertoire, and more. We'll work together to design a lesson plan that works for you and your learning style.
I began my musical journey with a recorder at the age of 3, and grew from there. I tried out several instruments, including French horn and piano, before finding the violin, and later the viola.
In 2018, I moved with my family from California to Texas, and found even more of what I love: music! Fort Worth is a music-loving area, and I'm happy to be here.
I began teaching began by accident when my twins entered a TK program. Their teacher asked for help with music - how could I turn down that request? I successfully wrote and taught the music program that I used for K-2 grade students at that school, and now teach violin and viola to beginner through intermediate students, advanced for viola.
I specialize in working with younger children, but love teaching kids of all ages (even adults!).
As a teacher, I am flexible and fun-lo
ving. I believe that music should always be fun, even when it's hard. I help foster a lifetime love of music, and work with him/her to design a custom program just for them.
I'm classically trained, but love all music, especially baroque, renaissance and Celtic styles. Medieval and renaissance music has a special place in my heart because I spent several years playing it as part of a string quartet.
I am available for online lessons all over the world, and I'm happy to record them so you can review them all week long.
*** Lesson Details *** A typical lesson consists of checking student's progress, addressing any immediate issues, and developing technique/knowledge.
In 3-6 months, your child should be: * Reading music consistently at a level appropriate to their progress. * Developing an understanding of rhythm and meter. * Placing their fingers properly for the most part. * Developing correct posture and holding their instrument and bow in a relaxed manner that suits their body type and facilitates the freedom of movement required for making great music.
I specialize in working with kids of all ages - from 5 to 95!
My son was excited about Ms Gail’s knowledge of the viola.

I Love my lessons with Ms. Gail! She makes the lesson fun and is always encouraging me to step out of my comfort zone and try an exercise before a scheduled lesson. I would highly recommend Ms. Gail!

Gail is a terrific instructor. She constantly recognizes your successes (however big or small ) and challenges you to do better. I am an adult who has no experience with any type of instrument and was very nervous and intimidated at first. Then I met with Michael, and though there was a ton of information we had to go through, he really made me feel at ease. He has the knowledge, patience, and understanding I was really looking for in a teacher and I'm so happy I found him!

With his flexibility and willingness to accommodate us my daughter learned a lot from him. He was a wonderful teacher and a great person to do business with.

About Luther A.
Luther unique talents as educator, instrumentalist, conductor, vocal coach, cinematographer, composer and arranger make him a sought-after teacher. Currently, Luther is working with the Bridgeport Board of Education at Roosevelt Elementary School for President Obama's Arts and Humanities Turn-Around Arts Initiative he is the Executive Director and Program Director of Blackwell's School of Music and Film and Minister of Music Director for New Hope Missionary Baptist Youth Singers.
Luther stays where I’m at and then helps me go the next step. That is useful for consistent gradual progress without the frustrations of moving either too slow or too fast (I am a beginning tenor saxophone player). Nice interpersonal style, patient and easy going, while methodical.
July 10, 2019
I think Luther is great. He works with my 10-year old son on piano, singing and even trumpet and violin as needed. My son has to work hard to progress, and Luther customizes the lesson plan for him and seems to understand him well. I'm really excited about them working together.

Jonathan is a great teacher! I had my very first violin lesson with him, and he made me feel like I can actually learn how to play this instrument.
Viola jokes are for losers... I think viola has one of the most gorgeous tone in the entire orchestra family. I can work on solo pieces as well as chamber music / orchestral excerpts of your choice.
I served as a violinist of the Attacca Quartet, a NY-based string quartet that performs all over the world from 2005 to 2019. In addition to concertizing, I teach students of all levels wherever I go; I have given lessons, masterclasses and lectures in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Colombia, Peru, Ireland, Australia, Japan, UAE... good thing we all speak the universal language of humanity: music.
I grew up in Yokohama, Japan, but I decided that I was ready to explore the world when I was finishing up the 10th grade. I moved to New York to pursue a musical life and career. I have Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Violin Performance, as well as Artist Diploma in String Quartet Studies from The Juilliard School.
I have been teaching students of all ages since 2005. Many of them were young children who simply enjoy playing the vio
lin, but I have had several students win domestic and international competitions. I am also very fond of working with adults with or without experience- I usually end up being great friends with them.
I often encourage my students to work on a solo repertoire of an appropriate level, as well as an ensemble piece that would help them develop their musicianship. I am very friendly and casual, but if you ask me to, I can be very tough (I was raised by a tiger mom.)
If you are a beginner and need help with reading music in general, don't worry- I teach a course called "Ear Training" at Juilliard, so that can be a part of our lessons as well.
I look forward to meeting you and making music together!
Keiko is very patient and kind. She made several suggestions for me to modify my technique to improve my sound. Even though I had difficulty with it, she encouraged me to keep going at it. I am excited for our next lesson.
June 19, 2019
Instructing doesn’t get any better than Keiko!! Absolutely! Patience, taking time, review all absolutely great!! Look forward to next session!
May 28, 2019
Keiko is a really amazing violin instructor. Not only is she a pleasure to work with, but she instills you with the confidence that she knows exactly what she’s doing, and can help you pick up everything you need in order to excel at violin.
"Catherine did a lovely job with my 9 year old daughter!"
"Susanna is an amazing string teacher! With a master's degree from Carnegie Mellon in viola performance and 20 years of teaching in public schools, Susann
a is an expert teacher and player. She is great with both children and adults, and she is in a great location. I highly recommend Susanna as both a viola and violin teacher."
"My daughter (15) had two classes with Laura so far and she loves learning from her. Laura is very cheerful and encouraging, and at the same time, she cle
arly points out areas that need to be improved and how to practice those techniques. We are very happy :)"
"Good instructor, very informative."
"Wonderful music teacher
Martina has a great passion for music which shows through her performance. Her level of musical perfection, synergy with the inst
rument and the beauty of the music will make you emotional. Martina's professionalism, reliability and empathy makes her an ideal teacher professional."
"Sam has prepped our daughter for an audition for SOTA and after all their hard work, we are over the moon that she had been accepted. Sam's lessons had p
layed a huge part in her doing well in her audition. He picked a complex piece for her solo which I felt had slow and fast movements and tempos, as well as emitted both a lighthearted and melancholy mood. The piece felt much like a roller coaster ride of sounds and emotions all in one piece. Sam has been and continues to be such a great fit for our daughter."
"Maggie is an excellent violist and instructor. She inspires you, helps you learn the correct techniques, and her lessons are fun. I'm a beginner and we
were playing duets. If you have a difficulty, she is very helpful. My life is very rich taking viola lessons."
"Regina was great! She was very patient with Lily(a beginner ).Can't wait for our next class."
"My son was excited about Ms Gail’s knowledge of the viola."
