Do you LOVE to sing? Do you struggle with some parts of it, like finding your unique voice? Learn to improve your vocal range, your confidence and your enjoyment in sharing your music.
I've worked with all kinds of students and their personal goals. My syllabus covers 50 lessons with quizzes and a vast array of theory, workable exercises and the tools to open your own natural talent as well as improve challenges.
I've taught for over 25 years and had experiences all over Europe and in the Sacramento Choral Society, the Boston Pops and the Sacramento Ballet as well as performances at Carnegie Hall and countless other engagements. I have a dozen CD's with choirs I've been associated with, which only means that I've had the privilege of working with many wonderful conductors and learned at their hands.
My philosophy, is that anyone can learn to sing and enjoy doing so. It does take some dedication, a lot of excitement, sometimes some length of time to retrain your ...
The Recital was fabulous- thanks for all your work.
Goals: Since I am also a Life Coach, we really focus on how to accomplish our hopes and desires. We begin by weekly, then monthly and even a yearly goal.
Each week we also focus on something in my STUDENT PAL - mnemonic. Another is TECHNIQUE. Technique is the ability to have proper position, wrist-lifts and finger curve as well as Theoretic knowledge and application.
I started giving out lickable gold stars, you know, the old-fashioned kind? They are for those students who mark their lesson sheet and come prepared... They really seem to enjoy that, and I adore the nostalgia!
It is a great week when students are nearly all prepared and ready for their lessons. This makes both Coach and student more effective and the time together more enjoyable.
Perhaps you are reading
this with both a little excitement and a little concern. Finding the right person for your or your student can be intimidating. A short introduction follows so that you know a little about me and my philosophy which can assist you make an informed decision. If we are a good fit, lessons and learning progress more joyfully.
I have been teaching music, performing music and enjoying music since I was a tiny three-year old. My first piano lessons were at age seven. I have since taught the students of former students! How fun is that?
Music has blessed my life in countless ways and given me opportunities I'd never dreamed of. Teaching at the Young Artists Conservatory of Music; Singing in Carnegie Hall, Performing across Europe and teaching the best students for over 25 years has been a delight.
I believe strongly that those who spend their time and resources for musical education are some of the brightest and most intelligent people around. Each of my students have their own individual goals and reasons for taking music lessons, which we revisit monthly. I believe that my role is to be a support and tool for them/you to accomplish the goals set, working with music that delights and educates.
You want the best teacher, who offers information, example, practice and performance opportunities and then gets out of the way of the student's own "voice" (whether playing or singing) so that they can be free to create their own style.
*** Lesson Details *** In our lessons, we work with a predictable schedule of balance. We have weekly exercises to make strong fingers and or voices, and technique and theory practice to hone skills that will improve our performances, whether they are for others or for our own benefit. Each student of piano can learn how to create and write their own music in time, choose their own pieces to work on, and have a say in their classical and performance goals.
We have a program of advancement, so you and your loved ones can visually see your progress and measure your skills, complete with awards and trophies.
What you learn, has everything to do with your commitment. Practice doesn't make perfect, Practice makes permanent. Only perfect practice makes perfect.
Learning the piano ought to be a JOY. I believe in playing the piano, not 'practicing' it. Enjoy what you do, and you'll do it longer and with celebration instead of duty.
*** Studio Equipment *** Piano - upright; CD player; Music stands; Dozens of music books and lesson materials; flash cards; computer and music writing program; mic and mirror, syllabus.
*** Travel Equipment *** No travel.
*** Specialties *** Over the years I have dabbled in most methods, but finally come to use my own syllabus and musicianship. I can easily adapt to your favourite if that is your desire. I specialize in a total music education, not merely in learning notes. It is like looking in a mirror and only seeing eyes and skin. Music has many facets and we discover all of them.
In today’s world singers need to know how to perform many styles of music. Many opera singers also sing Broadway and jazz, and all Broadway singers need to sing traditional, jazz, swing, pop, and maybe rock and folk styles. To do this, you need strong physical skills to sing belt, mixed and legit voice. You need strong high, middle and low notes and the ability to sing loud and soft and to modulate from bright to mellow. You need to know your instrument inside and out - how it functions and how to make it work safely, reliably and with good results.
I am unique because of my combined musical and medical backgrounds. In addition to my graduate and undergraduate musical training and extensive musical experience, I was a surgeon and taught anatomy and physiology. Part of my medical training included studying the mechanics of how the body works and its application. In addition to the traditional methods such as imagery and mimicry that all singing teachers use, I will help
Your lessons are designed to help you develop the skills and confidence you need to successfully perform in public. I work hard to prepare your lessons and I ask my students to invest daily time working on skills studied at their lessons. Performing music requires the patient integration of multiple skills over time, however, the rewards are BIG.
During your lessons you will receive instruction in skills needed to sing or play the cello as well as musical skills including rhythm, melody, harmony and style. Because there is a lot to learn, I encourage you to consider 45 or 60 minute lessons, which I offer at substantially reduced rates to make them more affordable for you.
I continually update my teaching methods by attending workshops and master classes and I incorporate my knowledge of human anatomy and function, to help you
perform with minimal strain. Also, I incorporate internet resources in your lessons to keep them interesting and up to date.
What will your lessons be like? At your first lesson we will explore and name the parts of your instrument (voice or cello). We'll talk about what you would like to learn, set attainable goals and select songs that you will be successful learning.
In subsequent lessons you will warm up with scales and exercises, using common intervals with basic rhythms to improve your technical abilities and gain musical skills and knowledge, such as hearing pitches and intervals and keeping with the beat. This will also help you learn to read music.
Singers will learn to use breathing to coordinate with your vocal folds to make a beautiful tone and sing on pitch, relax your throat and tongue to create resonant chambers, shape your mouth and tongue to color the tone, and use your tongue and lips to form the words.
Cellists will learn to transfer your body weight into your cello to produce a mellow tone, placing your hands and arms on the cello and bow in a relaxed and balanced manner to allow you to play smoothly and in tune and to prepare you to produce a lovely vibrato. Since cellos don't have frets, you will also learn to locate each note on the cello but just a few notes at a time - until you know them all.
You will learn to use your technical skills and knowledge to create musical phrases that sound beautiful and authentic and are fun to perform and listen to. You will need to practice simple skills and phrases repeatedly until they become habit. I will lend you my kind and patient support to help you through the bumps in the road.
Not sure how to practice at home? To support your practice at home you will: Receive a recording of each of your lessons to practice with; Learn simple exercises you can do at home; Learn to create and use simple backup tracks of your songs to learn to hear rhythm and harmony; Learn how to use your computer at home to get feedback for pitch, and tone quality.
Nervous about performing? When you are comfortable I will provide opportunities to perform in student programs performing for friends and families.
You will have opportunities to participate and perform in workshops which include performance opportunities, lectures, demonstrations and Master Classes with nationally recognized teachers and performers.
I received about 10 lessons from JoAnn and feel very good with the results. I started playing guitar and singing in a small band and knew that I needed help. Joann educated me with many warm up lessons, a good start on reading music, and numerous exercises towards reaching pitch that will also save my vocal chords from harm. It's up to me to practice and use the available tools that JoAnn has introduced me to while I take a break from lessons while traveling. JoAnn is a professional singing teacher.

JoAnn is a very patient and kind teacher. In the last few lessons I've had, she has taught me more than Ive learned with my previous teacher of 8 years. She is very understanding and teaches her students everything we need to know to be a good vocalist. I would highly recommend her.
Want to improve your vocal range or improve your technical skills? Want to learn how to sing for the first time? Looking to ask out that special someone with a candlelight serenade? Good news! I can help! I am an experienced music teacher who specializes in making our lessons about YOU and what YOU want! We will focus on pitch, enunciation, breathing, and practice techniques to make sure you sound the best you can! I am friendly, easy to work with, and an expert at encouraging my students. Hello! My name is Chris and I am a professional musician and music instructor! I have taught music since 2012 and graduated in 2018 with a Bachelor of Arts in Commercial Music from William Jessup University, where I learned composition, singing, instrumentation, theory, ear training, recording and production and many other skills.
Any student of mine will find that I don't care what "the book" says I should teach my student; I care what my student wants to learn. I will only have you learn a new skill if it is going to further your musical experience and give you the tools to accomplish the goals that you set for yourself. If you wanna learn Mozart, you got it. If you wanna learn ACDC, you got it. If you wanna learn jazz, folk or even rock-a-billy surf polka, then guess what; you got it.
My lessons are fun, relaxed and I will NEVER make
you feel bad for a mistake or a missed note. I will help you improve and get better, but not by shouting at you; we will work together to improve your musicianship, and as long as your satisfied with the lessons and the results, then I will be too!
Now, a little bit more about me!
I am the drummer, background vocalist and songwriter for California-based alternative-rock band, With One Voice. I am married to my beautiful wife, Courtney, who also plays and teaches music! I believe I can make you better at any style of music (and every style of music) so let's talk about how I can help you accomplish your goals, impress your friends, become a rockstar and learn a new, fun, and exciting skill today!

I came to Kevin because I needed a refresher course. I had taken piano lessons as a child, but I'd lost a lot of it over the years. Kevin is very knowledgeable and patient and he explains things very well. I would recommend him wholeheartedly.

"First lesson very comfortable, relaxed yet structured, getting to know each others personality, musical abilities. Take home exercises. Looking forwar
d to the next lesson. Thanks Arrica"
"Vanessa is very strong on technique and is very flexible and encouraging. My daughter is slowly moving into a more confident singing place thanks to her.
If my daughter were ever to have more lessons we'd return to her without hesitation. From my daughter :"she's kind, fun and a good instructor". Thank you,Vanessa!"
"Mia is very kind and helpful. I have not used my voice in a while and she makes the transition very exciting."
"Amazing instructor. Will be returning 🙏🏾"
"Knows her stuff. If you are looking to record music. She is an engineer and knows can really help you achieve your goals"
"Great experience, easy to talk to, smart in his field of work."
"I loved getting lessons from Zelda! Her bright bubbly personality is so welcoming. She greeted me each lesson with a cup of herbal tea to sooth the vocal
cords and we then worked on a series of great vocal techniques that have helped me maximise my singing potential. This has subsequently led to me being a professional singer and touring extensively both nationally and internationally in a number of different singing styles and genres (including Jazz/Classical/Pop/Rock/Folk/Country). Her safe methods build vocal control and stamina; as well as develop world class expressive and stylistic techniques. She manages all of this while also making lessons fun!"
"Francesca's an exceptionally good teacher. Pretty much every music teacher will have technical music skills but she's unique in having a firm grasp of psy
chology and motivation, which are underestimated in generic schooling and critically important. Classes are engaging and fun while remaining technically accurate and meaningful. She's got an excellent ear, gives lots of precise feedback on how you can control your sound to make it how you want it. Highly recommend."
"Elizabeth made me feel completely comfortable. It was a great experience."
It may seem like instrumentalists have it much easier when it comes to sight reading music; by simply pressing a key or a string, the notes are immediately available to them without any additional thought, and all that’s left to them is to work out duration, dynamics, and tempo. Singers, on the other hand, don't have an instrument to rely on.
Taking a song previously unknown to you and delivering a reasonably accurate performance the very first run-through isn’t a talent that everybody ha …
