From my songs, I am powerless to power-girl, I became a transformational singer/songwriter, coach, speaker, workshop host and author of the book, Change the World - Write Your Song! I have written songs since my teens and I found a kinship to writing songs that was driven by dynamics, power and the transformation music has to myself, to others and to the world. All I want to be is a transformational singer/songwriter and now teacher. It's my turn to help you write your song. I have been writing songs for over 25 years. At 35, I returned to school and got an Associate of Art degree in music at Sa
nta Barbara City College and a Bachelor of Art degree in music at University California Santa Barbara. After receiving my degree from the University in 2001, I plunged back into my first love songwriting and started recording. In 2004, I released my CD, Faded Fiction. These were songs that I recorded in 1998, while attending school. Then in 2007, I released a second CD, The Ballad Of Calamity. In 2011, I self -published my first book, Change The World; Write Your Song! Book I - Fundamentals and beyond for the Aspiring Singer/Songwriter. I have been busy working on book II, writing songs, working for a non-profit After school program called, Girls Rock SB, teaching privately, singing and acting with Santa Barbara Revels, performing with my band The Stone Phoneys - Linda Ronstadt Tribute and recording.

Special note to the Parents of prospective music students:

Many doctors and scientist are also musicians because it is a creative craft stimulating a part of the brain that academics does not. Music will always be around and when you learn music you also learn; math, language, history, reading and science. Whether your child continues in music or not, the benefits of knowing music are documented.

Together with your child I will help them realize their greatness. They can learn so much about themselves just by writing their song. I have a unique perspective on the pre-teen and teen because that is when I began writing songs. If only I knew then what I know now! This is something I can do for your child. For me, songwriting was my escape and my therapy. I survived my troubled teens through music. And now I want to teach your child all I know. Combined with some performance opportunities! Your child will love it! Most of my kids get a kick out of my lessons. I am very patient and yet provide incentives to inspire motivation for the possibilities of great things.

To teach "The Whole Musician" means to teach, voice, guitar and/or piano, songwriting, performance, recording and the music business. I teach anyone who wants to learn. With this "whole musician" style of teaching, we will together create your unique style by focusing on your strengths.

Music has the power to influence and change lives, therefore changing the world. As a beginning singer/songwriter, you will discover how to look within first, before creating your song and exploring your voice. This process ultimately encourages you to resolve and evolve emotionally. Once you’re ready to share your song with the world, it will be your song and no one else. My objective is to help you create your song, your voice, your style!

~ Beginning Vocal Lessons: Learn scales, harmonies, vocal tech, music theory & musicianship, learn to read vocals parts and more complex songs, performance experience.

~ Learn beginning guitar, piano and bass. Learn the basics, chords, scales, TABs and how to read simple music charts. Also, learn the basics in music theory, musicianship and to read music.

~ Songwriting for Pre-teens- Learn about how to write songs from a title and other methods, simple lyrics, songwriting forms and rhythms.

I recommend Jenna to all levels of learners!

I knew nothing about playing the guitar before my first lesson. She made me feel comfortable right away and was able to help me learn quickly. She also helped me with my singing at the same time. She let me pick the music I was interested in and gave me tips on how to learn at home too. She is also very nice and patient.

Instilling and nurturing a love of music and developing musicianship are why I’m a voice teacher. I earned my Master of Music Education degree in 2012 from Boston University, which has furthered my love of teaching and given me even more resources to draw from.

With all my students, I emphasize good technique. No matter what genre of music or age of student, singing in a healthful and fun way includes great posture, breath management, and producing a free and easy sound. I believe that each student has their own unique way of learning, so I tailor my lessons to fit. Students are both encouraged to sing music they're familiar with and to try something new. Immediate feedback and specific practice instructions help my students gain a sense of confidence and assess their progress. Last but not least, singing should be fun!

I worked with Michelle for a little over 2 years. As an adult student, I was super nervous about singing in front of anyone - it took me this long to just sign up for lessons! She was patient with me and gave me lots of tools for dealing with my nerves and stage fright. Michelle helped me to choose songs that I not only wanted to sing but that matched my voice and range. I was hesitant about performing in a recital but Michelle pointed out that it was like training for a marathon - doing all the work but not performing just seemed silly. It wasn't perfect but it was definitely something I'm proud to have crossed off my bucket list.

After graduating California Institute of the Arts with a multi-focus on several aspects of music including African dance, Indonesian gamelan, songwriting, recording, classical voice and piano, folk guitar, and more, Liz had the excellent opportunity to teach theater to a local musical theater summer youth program. All summer, she taught class sizes ranging from 10 to 26 students of the ages 5-10. Her initiative later led to being hired at this local community theater. Along with this theater teaching experience, she has been teaching piano, guitar, ukulele, flute & voice lessons for over 10 years. Her students have gone from knowing nothing about music to learning and performing entire pieces on their own as well as even auditioning & for agents and becoming signed artists in Los Angeles. Liz knows that it is her place in the world to tea
ch music & spread positivity through her own music and would love nothing more than make learning music a positive and fun experience for everyone.

I teach out of the Alfred's Piano course, but am open to trying out any music books you may already have in your home. I do expect my students to purchase the books they would like to learn out of and to have the material I have given them for homework ready, completed, and practiced by the time we have our weekly lesson. I recommend at least twenty to thirty minutes of practice every day, and will give rewards for having practiced well, and for performing well in our lessons. I would love it for my students to be clear on what they would like to learn, and I love using songs that the student enjoys to make his or her music learning process fun.

Dr. Spaeth is currently working with Palen Music Center. He is also teaching at the University of Tulsa as an adjunct faculty member during Spring 2018. Spaeth maintains an online music studio through TakeLessons, where he teaches several instruments privately and in group settings including saxophone, guitar, oboe, music theory, flute, clarinet, and piano.

Dr. Carl Spaeth taught at Oklahoma State University as a Lecturer of Saxophone and Music Theory during Dr. Jeffrey Loeffert's sabbatical beginning August 2017. His duties included graduate saxophone lessons, graduate music theory review, graduate saxophone pedagogy, and saxophone studio class.

Prior to working at OSU, Spaeth was Instructor of Jazz and Saxophone at South Dakota State University from 2014-2017. His responsibilities included directing the annual SDSU/Brookings Optim
ist Jazz Festival, directing Jazz Ensembles I-II, Jazz Combo, Jazz Improvisation lessons, Jazz Pedagogy, online Jazz Appreciation, private saxophone lessons, saxophone quartets, private oboe lessons, and group guitar class.

Spaeth completed his Doctor of Musical Arts degree in saxophone performance at the University of Kansas in 2014, and his Master of Music Pedagogy and Performance from Oklahoma State University in 2011. He graduated from Harrah High School in 2002, earned his Bachelor of Music Education from Southwestern Oklahoma State University in 2008, and was a 5th-12th grade Head Band Director at Fairview Public schools. He is currently a member of the North American Saxophone Alliance, the Jazz Education Network, Music Teachers National Association, National Association of College Wind and Percussion Instructors, and an Honorary Member of Tau Beta Sigma. He has held previous memberships with Kappa Kappa Psi, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, Kappa Delta Pi, and the Oklahoma Bandmasters Association.

While at KU, Spaeth was also a graduate teaching assistant for the saxophone studio and jazz studies program. His responsibilities included Assistant Director of the KU Jazz Festival, directing Jazz Ensembles II-III, directing Jazz Combo III-VI, directing Saxophone Quartets II-III, teaching private saxophone lessons, assisting in saxophone studio class, and teaching the music education woodwind methods course. His Lecture Recital Document, A Performer’s Analysis of Selected Jazz Works for Saxophone Quartet, featured an interview with Bob Mintzer. Spaeth was a member of KU Jazz Ensemble I, KU Saxophone Quartet I, and KU's Helianthus New Music Ensemble. As a member of KU's Jazz Ensemble 1, Spaeth has performed with Dave Douglas, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Alex Sipiagin, Steve Owen, Gary Foster, Steve Houghton, Clint Ashlock, David von Kampen, Peter Epstein, Jeff Miley, James Miley, Roger Shew, and Brian Hamada, Brandon Draper, Rich Wheeler, Beau Bledsoe, Jeff Harshbarger, and Matt Otto. In July 2014, Spaeth went on a European tour with KU Jazz Ensemble I featuring Steve Leisring and Deborah Brown. Together, they performed at the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland, the Vienne Jazz Festival in France, and performed in several cities in Germany. Recordings by this band resulted in KU winning the DownBeat Student Award (Graduate College Large Jazz Ensemble Division) in 2015.

While at OSU, Spaeth was a GTA for the saxophone studio and music theory programs. His responsibilities included Music Theory I-IV tutoring and grading, sight-singing grading, piano labs, classical and jazz saxophone lessons, saxophone quartet coaching, saxophone studio Webmaster, and saxophone studio class. Spaeth was a member of the OSU Wind Ensemble and Jazz Ensemble 1. He had a regularly performing jazz trio and played in OSU's X2End saxophone quartet. The X2End quartet performed locally at the 2011 Navy Band Saxophone Symposium in Washington D.C., at the 2011 NASA Region IV Conference, and has won the state and division rounds of the 2010-2011 MTNA Chamber Music Competition. The X2End quartet went on to win the 3rd place prize at the national final round of the MTNA Chamber Music Competition. They also were the Division II Chamber Ensemble winners at the 2011 Hubbard Music Competition where they were awarded the 2nd place prize in the overall finals. Spaeth's final degree paper at OSU was a study of composer/performer collaboration. He traveled to Texas, Michigan, and Ohio to interview saxophonists and composers including David Dees, Peter Fischer, John Sampen, Marilyn Shrude, Joe Lulloff, and Charles Ruggiero. He has presented his lecture at the 2011 Navy Band Saxophone Symposium, the 2011 NASA Region IV Conference, and the 2012 OSU Single Reed Summit. As a member of OSU's Jazz Ensemble 1, he has performed with Bob Sheppard, Conrad Herwig, Wayne Bergeron, and Andy Martin.

While at SWOSU, Spaeth performed as a member of the marching band, wind ensemble, Jazz Ensemble A, saxophone quartet, and his own jazz combo named Five-Seven. As a member of SWOSU's Jazz Ensemble A, he has performed with Dan Haerle, Bob Bowman, Jack Mouse, Fred Forney, Janice Borla, Eddie Daniels, Pamela York, Lynn Seaton, Carl Allen, Dr. Michael Cox, Tom Williams, Dr. Robert Chambers, Dave Hanson, Drori Mondlak, Delores Williams, Byron Stripling, Frank Wess, Kenny Drew Jr., Dennis Mackrel, Bill Watrous, Rich Eames, Jennifer Leitham, and Randy Drake.

Spaeth's primary saxophone instructors have been Vince Gnojek, Dr. Jeffrey Loeffert, Dr. Ann Bradfield, Dr. Keith Talley, and William Rodney Hull. He has had additional instruction in lessons and masterclasses from Gary Foster, Dr. Joseph Murphy, Dr. Michael Cox, Bob Sheppard, Johnny Salinas, Dr. Kimberly Goddard Loeffert, Dr. Geoffrey Deibel, Dr. Jonathan Nichol, Dr. Griffin Campbell, Dr. James Laughlin, and Dr. David Dees. Spaeth's jazz directors have included Dan Gailey, Bob McCurdy, Dr. Jonathan Martin, Dr. Keith Talley, and Dr. Terry Segress.

​Spaeth enjoys recording several instruments in his home studio and composing new music. His compositions that have been performed include his big band arrangement of Cat Battles by Joshua Redman, September in the Refrain (alto saxophone and electronics), Funk-o-matic (jazz combo), Smooth (jazz combo), and The Deadline Arrives at Dawn (alto saxophone and electronics). As an advocate of new music involving the saxophone, he has participated in a commissioning consortium for Alone Together by composer David MacDonald through Kick Starter. In 2013, Spaeth performed the premier of Cuento #3 by Nelson Ramirez Diaz. During summer of 2014, he recorded selections from Dr. John Walker's "The Alto Saxophone in the Attic," published by Carl Fischer. At the 10th Annual SDSU/Brookings Optimist Jazz Festival in 2015, Spaeth directed SDSU Jazz Ensemble I's premier of Dog, Tired by David von Kampen.

​Dr. Spaeth is a Conn-Selmer Endorsing Artist. He hosted the North American Saxophone Alliance Region 3 (ND, SD, NE, MN, IA) Conference at South Dakota State University on March 17-18, 2017. On Saturday, April 8, 2017, Spaeth performed Dreams in the Dusk by David Biedenbender with South Dakota State University's Wind Symphony, directed by Dr. Jacob Wallace. On Monday, February 6, 2017, Spaeth performed the premiere of Lhotse for alto saxophone and percussion by Steve Danyew with Dr. Aaron Ragsdale. Lessons are about learning to make music, not endless scales and arpeggios which so often lead to pain and injury. Tone production, sight reading, and age appropriate theory and interpretation are strong elements from the beginning.

An overwhelming percentage of young, enthusiastic and talented children are discouraged early and give up the piano because they do not make rapid progress and therefore do not enjoy their lessons. Music is one of life's great joys. It should be fun. For the intermediate, and even the advanced, student, it is critical that much more attention be paid to the musicality of the playing and the u

Leni is an incredible instructor. He is extremely knowledgeable and yet never comes across as condescending or arragant.
He is helpful and encouraging and makes learning to play fun.
The music that he selects is challenging without being overwhelming and he is fine with moving on to something else if you just plain don't like a piece.
He is a very popular instructor and I feel fortunate that I have found a space in his schedule !

I can honestly say that Leni is one of the most professional and intelligent music instructors I have ever had the pleasure of working with. I have a background in music (low brass) from the 6th grade all the way through college. While I no longer play any brass instruments, I am currently taking drum lessons, and felt that now would also be the best time to try my hand (no pun intended) at piano. I am very happy with the lessons that Leni gave, however, I eventually came to the realization that the piano would be too much of a time constraint for me. I was not 100% committed to the piano due to working an 8-5 job every day, as well as taking the drum lessons I was already taking prior to starting piano. Also, it didn't help that I did not have a piano to practice with. With that being said, if I ever find myself with the time/capability to commit myself to the piano the way I wanted to, then I will be contacting Leni for more lessons. There are many piano teachers out there, but if you want to learn the CORRECT way so that you will not hurt your hands/fingers, then Leni is the absolute best choice. Thanks for everything Leni!

This lessons are about how to improve music performance and are intended to any instrumentalist that feels his/her performance is not moving forward or is not getting deep into the public. We will work on:
- How to play tension free (Alexander Technique) to produce a better sound, a more confident image and feeling while playing, and enjoy while playing in practice or recitals.
- How to develop a smart and effective practice. How to develop quality of practice sessions instead of timeless and not productive sessions. How to solve problems in practice sessions and recitals.
- How to work musicianship and a musical performance. How to get an analysis of the pieces and an individual idea of what you want to perform. Make the performance your own voice and how to transport that to your instrument.
- How to improve your creativity and freedom in music playing, so you can create your own Cadenzas or have an individual voice while performing written music.

About Cecilia
I am a South-american violinist and violin-music teacher who loves music, dancing, arts, nature, and animals. I am a social, kind, caring, persevere and self-disciplined person.

I started teaching 9 years ago when I was studying my Bachelor'€™s degree. In my country, I was the teacher of 25 lovely children and youth, with whom I created my own violin studio. It started only with 3 students, and after 7 years we were a wonderful group that performed in different recitals, festivals and trips around our country. Together we learned about violin, classical music, popular music, folk music, singing, etc., but most importantly we learned about sensitivity, sharing, self-discipline, respect, creativity and many other personal skills that music helps us learn in such a joyful way.

In Boston, while doing my masters, I also had the oppo
rtunity to teach two children in English with new methods I was learning in my string pedagogy course. In addition, I have taught adults and elderly (70-72) to play the violin, and find their smiles and learning process more than satisfying. Finally, I was the music teacher in a kinder garden, and had students from 2 to 4 years old. I like to teach people with different ages because I learn from them and their different needs.

I have also had some few students with different abilities such as Down syndrome, Asperger's syndrome and Dwarfism. I cannot say I am an expert but I am open to learn from these students if I have a good orientation and support from the parents and specialists.

Right now, after finishing my Master'€™s degree in Boston, I am living in Chicago because my husband is studying his PhD at Northwestern University. I miss teaching and sharing my love for music with others, that is why I really want to find new students that want to join me in their musical journey.

*** Lesson Details ***
I believe every person is talented and can learn music. I think that the best way to learn music and arts is from the experience, where the person can develop not only music and instrumental skills, but also creativity, originality, joy and love for music. These are skills that are needed to enjoy and learn music, but also to be a more sensitive and rounded person. My goal is to build a professional and positive environment where the person can develop his/her musical abilities as well as his/her personal skills. In order to achieve this goal, it it usually better to have the lessons in my own studio instead of the student's house. That way we can work with a complete music environment and the student can benefit 100% from the music experience.

I have learned in the process that regular practice and a consistent schedule encourages not only progress but great motivation. Also, I have found that a experience-based approach helps them keep motivated because the students learn much faster and gain a deeper musical intuition than with a theoretical and approach.

I think it is important to give the students the time to talk and share their thoughts about the music. I like to guide them discovering how their bodies feel more comfortable with the instrument, instead of telling them the "correct form". I like to make them clap, sing, move and feel the music before telling them how to play it. I like to introduce music theory and reading from the beginning encouraging them to use their knowledge about music.

In addition, I have found that following the literature of more traditional methods with scales and etudes, helps the students to develop completely in their instruments, with a great technical foundation. That is why I like to mix experience-based methods such as Suzuki, Kodaly and Dalcroze, with traditional books such as Essential Elements, Wolfhart, Kreutzer, etc.

I usually start with Suzuki, The Blue Book, and some personal material that I create for each student depending on their needs. After a while, I start to introduce some pieces of different parts of the world or different styles while introducing scales and etudes. This way I maintain the student's motivation and give them a broader view of music, while developing important skills for their instrument. Then, when the student is ready, I introduce more difficult pieces and solo repertoire.

For adults, I try to adapt my method to their particular goal in music, giving them both fun and the best level they want to achieve. I give them material that is adequate to their needs and also to their preferences.

I have several materials for children and adults. Music cards, music games, toys, puppets, etc.
I also have books to start our journey.However, the student will have to buy his/her own books once we start.
I own one 4/4 violin that could be rented for a tall or adult student. I also own a 3/4 violin for rent.
Smaller violins would have to be rented or bought.

I can travel to the student's house with my instrument if it is within my travel limits (5 miles) and if it is accessible via public transportation.

music.

techniques.

As you can see I’ve written a review for Matthew regarding my daughters success (her test was last year) so I’d like to write one for my son also. My son was not driving at the time and Matthew agreed to drive to our home and teach him for an additional nominal fee. My son also took multiple tutoring sessions with Matthew and learned something new every time. He felt confident going into the test, confident in his ability to complete the exam and do well on it. Matthew takes his time with each individual and works with their specific needs. My children needed help in different areas of the ACT and Matthew was more than capable of helping them in those areas. My sons ACT score also went up 4 points after working with Matthew!
