I've been teaching music for 15 yrs on guitar, piano, bass, cello and bass. My students have ranged from from 5yrs to 75yrs of age. I have seen many student go on to join orchestras, bands, broadway shows or simply continued their education to a university or college. Being able to read music profeciently has given me the opportunity to teach off many method books but like to use Alfred Method, Mel Bay and Frederick Noad Method books. I teach many styles ranging from classical, jazz & blues, rock, contemporary and pop. I do stress and recommend all my students to learn how to read music and usually by our second or third lesson they will playing simple songs. I am here to help you make music!

About Omar
Knowing that you are looking for a instructor to teach you music puts a smile on my face. You see, music has been a part of my life since the age of 3. Some of my first memories are of me accompanying my father at home with his rehearsals or just singing together to have fun as a family. I believe music is a gift that unites people together bringing out our deepest emotions that words cannot express. At the age of 5 I received an organ and from that point on I embarked on a long life journey to indulge and learn more about music. In elementary, junior high and high school I was involved in any subject dealing with music. I joined school choirs, orchestras, bands, marching bands, jazz bands, musicals you name it. While enjoying all school music activities I was selected to join in honor county and state orchestras and choirs. In junior h
igh and high school I was selected to play for the Junior Pacific Symphony Orchestra, received scholarships to music summer camps, and was selected musician of the year. In college my quest continued with the Orange Coast College Orchestra, Praise Symphony Orchestra, Vanguard University Orchestra as well as guitar ensembles and college choir groups. I've also taken private lessons from Dr. Art David (Julliard graduate) in stand up bass as well as David Black (Pacific Symphony Orchestra) and classical guitar with Richard Glenn and David Murray. I've been teaching now for 15 years in guitar, classical guitar, bass guitar, stand up bass, cello, piano and voice ranging from 5 yr old to 65 yr old. My styles of music range from classical, jazz, rock, blues and contemporary. At this point I'm enjoying playing and singing in my church choir and worship team as well as teaching my two kids the joys of music. I hope you truly enjoy the joy of learning music whether it be through me or another teacher.

*** Lesson Details ***
As a teacher I require all students to set time aside to practice. For without it, it is only wasting your time, your money and my time. I don't expect a total dedication to it but I do want to see some effort put into it. A little practice can go a long way and the more you do it, the faster you will progress and the more you will enjoy it. We will first start off with what you want out of music and the level you are at and go from there. Student can bring their own music either thru tabs, music sheet or just by ear but one thing I do expect is a student to learn how to read music notation. We will go thru the regular warm up exercises, material practiced during the week and any new music for the following week. Correct techniques in how to hold your instrument or voice procedures will be addressed. Music theory will also be part of the lesson as well as ear training. At the end of either 3 to 6 months you will have learned the basics of music and will be playing songs for you or someone else to enjoy. I will make it a total relaxing and enjoyable atmosphere but some dedication has to put on the students' part.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Dedicated music room, guitar both classical and electric, piano, cello, upright bass and electric bass guitar

*** Travel Equipment ***
I provide my own instrument. I can also provide music stand, small amplifier if needed and music material for the first few lesson until student provides for him/her self. Student must have own instrument.

*** Specialties ***
My way of teaching would have to be that they must learn how to read music while learning how to play an instrument.

First lesson was more of an assessment of where I am as a musician, it was a good lesson but I'm sure the next will be better. Omar is obviously a professional. Hopefully he will be able to teach me how to read music as good as he soon.

Each lesson is designed on the level of the student's ability from beginner to advanced. Rock, R&B, funk, jazz, blues, POP and country music. I like to use song learning as a vehicle to sharpen your skills. Learning skills through songs is more fun for beginners. More advanced students will work on everything from theory, reading, harmony; and how you can use scales and arpeggios in a number of ways over several different styles of music.

About Stephen
~ Customized Lesson Plan for You. ~

Learning the guitar is a fun, yet, challenging experience. Having an instructor guide you through the process makes learning easier and more efficient. The internet provides a wealth of information but can not interact with you and help your specific needs. Many guitar players get frustrated and give up. Getting the encouragement and expertise of an instructor who has been there before greatly enhances chances of success.

My style of teaching is founded on fun with the instrument and guiding students to real music situations. Many students come to me with an incomplete set of skills. These (self taught) players have several basic fundamental holes in their playing.

It is also important to me that students have a basic knowledge of music theory. This way, they can enjoy the guitar for th
e rest of their life. If you just learn to put your hands in a certain place to play a certain song, you are missing out. If you learn what it is your actually doing, you can apply it. This may be the most important benefit of a private instructor.

What You Will Learn:

Beginning Students:
In my experience, over several years, I find most beginners are surprised the guitar is so hard to play. Having an instructor to help you past that frustration will lead to a lifelong enjoyment of your guitar in the songs you love.
- Learning the basic chords.
- How to move from chord to chord smoothly.
- Using these chords to play your favorite songs.
- Understanding guitar notation (tabs, chord grids, song books, standard notation).
This way, the skills you learn will last a life time!

Intermediate/ Advanced Students:
This is for the hungry players. You will be given the direction to achieve a high level of musicianship. You will be challenged to reach your full potential.
- Technique drills
- Scale knowledge
- Advanced chords
- Improvisation tips
- Chop Building
- Theory
- Reading
- Composition

Experience & Background:

I've teaching and performing professionally for 23 years.
- One year OCHSA jazz combo.
- 15 years performing music clubs, casuals as a solo performer and in a jazz trio.
- 23 years teaching individuals and groups.
- 11 years as Irvine and Laguna YAMAHA Music school instructor.

I've studied with some of the top teachers in California:
- Jim Fagen (classical guitar)
- Erik Halbig (rock, jazz & country)
- Jim Witzel (head of jazz guitar at CSUSF)
- Ron Eshcete (jazz guitar)
- Carl Verheyen (everything).

Stephen is a brilliant and experienced guitar instructor. My wife signed me up the electric guitar lesson with Stephen after my retirement about a year ago. I told him that I had no music background and just wanted to be able to play the 70’s songs I like. The lesson plan is based on my level and my goal. I started the fundamentals and now I can play most my favorite 70’s songs. I enjoy every lesson with him. What I learn in one hour class can fill out the rest of the week. Thank you for making my retired life so meaningful. “It’s never too old to play guitar! “ I would highly recommend Stephen to anyone who wants to learn to play the guitar!

I go there once a week for my 45 min class and practice 15 min every other days at home. Now I can play the musics I like. About Brandon
I am a songwriter, teacher, guitarist and recording artist. I graduated from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona with a Bachelors in Music with emphasis in guitar and music industry studies.

I have experience teaching guitar lessons on an individual basis as well as being in a classroom setting teaching general music.

I conduct simple and clear lessons tailored to each students age and starting level of experience with the guitar combined with a stress free and fun teaching style to keep students engaged and truly interested in learning.

My experience in performing, recording, touring and curating music events in the music industry are all areas in which I would be happy to mentor students if they choose to go farther with their lessons. I currently perform in a touring indie band that has played acts such as Miami Horro

I like to write in the indie, pop, funk and dance style but I think an understanding of technique and theory is essential to becoming a well rounded musician. My goal is to give you the tools you need to become a great musician.

Taking lessons with Kismat was both fun and educational, as it should be. I was introduced to a variety of different music theory concepts at a pace which suited me. It was never too difficult nor too easy. Of course your progress will be dictated by how much you practice, but Kismat's lessons will give you a clear path to follow. Over all I had a lot of fun learning from him, he's a great teacher and fun guy to jam with.

I have a unique way of teaching with every different student. I believe that we all learn in different ways and at different speeds, so I tailor each lesson to fit accordingly. First and foremost, playing guitar should be fun. Once it becomes work or not fun, then something has gone wrong. My goal is to bring a sense of accomplishment and achievement to each lesson and to show each student that it doesn't take much to pick up the guitar and play a few chords. I'm very outgoing and humorous, and bring that to the lesson each time. We will do serious work, but that doesn't mean we have to be serious people.

Do you want to play your favorite songs? Are you interested in learning how to record yourself playing? I can help you build a foundation of knowledge, a "Tool Box" as I call it, that will help you learn and listen to the songs you love and be able to discern how to play them.

I have been a professional touring musician for over 10 years and have played with many different A-list

The best part of learning an instrument is playing the music you love or wish to create. My lessons are designed to maximize this potential, combining music appreciation, song learning challenges, and creative development.

Students will be shown the fundamentals of guitar playing with special attention towards creating your own music and learning to play with others. Lessons will revolve around making progress by learning songs, not exercises. This way students remain challenged but with minimal burn out.

Learn rock, indie, metal, singer-songwriter, and more. Develop your ability to write songs, make melodies, rip through killer solos and licks, and become a well rounded musician.

About Aldo
Hello prospective students,

My name is Aldo. I am a student at California State University Long Beach and have been teaching guitar for a little over a year.

The goals for my students are pretty simple. First we identify some goals that you want to aim for. That could include improving technique, learning a certain song, or writing your own music! Whatever your guitar goals are, I am here to push, and encourage you to get them. You want to have killer solos? I can show you that. You want to learn some theory? I can show you that. You want to expand your arsenal of licks and chords? I can show you that. You want to write better songs or learn to play with others? I can show you that too.

Along the way I will expose students to new ideas, techniques, and new music to make you into a well-rounded musician. I keep detailed records
on progress made and achieved for each student so that each lesson has quantifiable results.

I have been playing guitar for well over 10 years and can say that it is not just a hobby but my passion. I have performed at venues such as The Viper Room as a solo artist and with bands. I hope to instill in my students not just quantifiable results in your guitar playing, but a better understanding of why you are drawn to music, what makes you want to play, and your creative abilities.

I look forward to our future lessons!

The first step is to identify what's holding their attention. What is it about music that has made them want to learn? Not everybody has the same goal or vision, and that is a good thing. Nevertheless, even musicians who swear to be self-taught end up incorporating theory and harmony into their compositions. I feel like I can toggle my mind back to when I was 14 trying to hash out some Metallica songs to now having studied jazz music and classical harmony. It's important to respect musical tradition, but also give the customer (student or parent) what they want to learn. I feel that I can be very flexible in this regard.

About Matthew
I'm a performer/instructor residing in Los Angeles,CA. I grew up in Cleveland, Ohio where I founded the band Synasis with my brother. We played several local shows, as well as opening for national touring artists. While living in Ohio I also attended The Recording Workshop, where I studied audio engineering in both analog and digital applications. Before leaving for LA, I studied music theory and liberal arts at Lakeland Community College. I also studied voice, piano, and guitar at the nearby Fine Arts Association. Since moving to LA, I've completed an AA in Music Performance at The Musicians Institute in Hollywood, as well as performing with a diverse mix of bands around the city.
