About Robert
It is my experience that no matter what kind of music you end up playing a solid classical piano background is invaluable. I was privately trained in classical piano from the ages 5 - 17 in Los Angeles, California. My teachers were Mary Brady, Mae Gilbert Reese and Jeane Weiss. I graduated from Harvard High School and then graduated from UCLA with BA in art. I am a Los Angeles based artist and composer. Recently I was nominated Best Music Director of the year by the L.A. Weekly for my work on 'Head the Musical' at the Met Theater Los Angeles in 2010. I am currently mounting an opera I wrote at the Met Theater. I have been teaching private piano lessons to students ages 8 to adult for the last six years.

My experience as a musical director has honed my skills as a good communicator and teacher. I know how to get people trained an
d motivated to perform on stage with confidence no matter what their skill level.

*** Lesson Details ***
My lessons focus on reading, technique and basic music theory. I always start my lessons with scales and exercises. This develops good technique and primes the student for music theory. The rest of the lesson is focused on reading and performance. I expose students to different classical composers like Bach, Mozart and Beethoven. Once they have mastered a few pieces, students are then encouraged to study the composers they enjoy the most. It is important for students to enjoy the music that they are learning as I expect them to practice everyday.

*** Travel Equipment ***

Stop wasting your time - take Robert.

I only had the pleasure of taking piano lessons with Robert for two months since I got into Harvard and had to move to the East Coast, but I can confidently attest that he is a phenomenal teacher. To begin with, Robert brings to the table not only his classical training but also an open, creative, out-of-the-box approach. He is extremely knowledgeable and seasons lessons with fantastic facts about composers and pieces which makes everything a lot more interesting and memorable. lessons are versatile and designed to develop several key skills simultaneously. I never really played the piano before but after only two months with Robert I could read notes, develop my technique and actually play two beautiful pieces! If you are looking for a well-rounded, brilliant, cool teacher - search no more.

I've been teaching bass guitar for six years now in a variety of different styles. Some styles include, but not limited to: rock, metal, funk, blues, pop and more. I like to work on various techniques and playing styles so that my students develop their own unique approach and can incorporate many different styles into their own playing.

About Jason
I grew up in Minnesota and started playing guitar when I was 13. Self-taught for three years, I developed a passion and love for music. Upon turning 16, I expanded my knowledge studying with a local guitarist, a musical genius in my opinion, who made a huge impact on my playing. In the fall of 2007 I relocated to Los Angeles to attend Musicians Institute for guitar performance. I graduated in 2009

Over the course of the last 10 years+ I've been a part of many different live performing bands and currently work with my original bands Delphian and Smoke Hollow. A full song from Smoke Hollow can be heard in the photo/video section below off of our debut album. Delphian can be seen and heard featured on screen in the major motion picture Mike Judge film “Extract”. I study, perform and have vast knowledge in the styles of blues, classica
l, country, folk, jazz, metal and rock n' roll. Everyday as I continue to grow as a teacher and musician, so does my love for the guitar. I very much enjoy sharing my knowledge and seeing each of my students progress and grow as musicians.

*** Lesson Details ***
Every lesson will be tailored exactly to what you want to learn. We can cover specific topics such as music theory, harmony and improvisation, but if you would prefer to just work on learning your favorite songs, that's precisely what we'll do. Let me know what you want to learn and it will be done. We'll monitor your progress to help reach your goals. Most importantly, we will have fun while learning!

*** Studio Equipment ***
Acoustic and electric guitars and basses, amps, cables, music stands, PC with recording software

*** Travel Equipment ***
I can provide my own equipment. Guitar, amp, and cables. Students should have their own guitar and amp.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in rock and metal, but I love to teach other styles like classical guitar, blues, jazz, and country.

We started off with a different drum instructor who turned out to be very unreliable. I asked take lessons to provide me with someone with good reviews. Someone who is punctual and reliable, that's when we met Jason. Jason is a super amazing instructor who has incredible patience. My son Nathan has never had any musical education before. After taking lessons with Jason for about three months he has a vast knowledge in playing drums and reading music. Jason utilizes his time very productively during lessons with no rush. He even goes to the extent to recommend and suggest products that will help Nathan improve. He is very humble, sweet and trustworthy. My family is glad that he came along. Thank you Jason from all of us.

About Brian
Brian discovered his talent and passion for teaching while still in college, and has been teaching guitar and piano in Southern California for over 20 years. Gifted at teaching students of all ages and abilities, he combines patience, creativity, imagination and boundless enthusiasm with solid professional training and experience. Brian also has over 10 years experience teaching piano and guitar to blind and autistic students.

A lifelong musician, Brian received his first musical training at the age of 4 and 5 years when his actor/singer Dad and musically talented Grandma taught him to sing and play the mandolin. He began piano lessons at age 5, and formal guitar instruction at the age of 10 years.

By the time he was a 14-year-old high school student, Brian was performing as lead guitarist in rock bands around Southern California
, developing mastery of rock guitar and blues performance and improvisation. Brian went on to complete a Bachelor's Degree in Classical Guitar Performance from California State University, Los Angeles.

Passionate about all kinds of music, Brian's studies include choral music and conducting, Gregorian chant (at the Monastery of St. Pierre de Solesmes, France), and Master Classes with Andrés Segovia and Christopher Parkening. In 1984, he participated as a member of the Honor Choir for the ceremonies of the Olympic Games in Los Angeles, which included recording of original music by Philip Glass for the Olympic Games under the direction of David L. Wolper and Mr. Glass.

As a jazz guitarist, Brian continues to grow musically in association with his colleagues of the Naomi Jazz Group, and other close musical friends who include students of the late, great Ted Greene.

MY APPROACH:
I focus on four areas that I think are essential to being a good music teacher:

• the uniqueness of each student;
• the fact that enjoyment (fun!) maximizes learning;
• the importance of proper technique and an understanding of music theory to build self-confidence;
• the development of musicianship through performance.

EACH STUDENT IS UNIQUE:
My first interest with each new student is to discover how he or she learns, and then to apply appropriate teaching techniques to maximize their potential. I gear my lesson plans to the individual and strive to optimize the learning potential of the student.

ENJOYMENT MAXIMIZES LEARNING:
In a lesson with me you can expect to never be bored, to laugh a lot, learn a lot, be positively engaged emotionally and challenged intellectually. I believe that learning is maximized when the student is enjoying the experience, and is faced with challenges appropriate to their skill level. I aim to make learning music fun, choosing musical selections to learn in the style and genre that relate to the student's interests and aspiration.

TECHNIQUE & UNDERSTANDING OF MUSIC THEORY TO BUILD SELF-CONFIDENCE:
When my students perform in concerts, recitals, juries, auditions, recording sessions or simply for friends and family, they have self-confidence because they know precisely the "how" and "why" of everything required to perform well. My goal with students is to build a solid foundation in instrumental technique and thorough understanding of Music Theory at their appropriate level.

PERFORMANCE:
On a monthly basis, all my students practice performing pieces they are working on during the lesson time, with family/friends as an audience if desired and appropriate, and/or using digital recording to help the student develop a critical ear for their own playing.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Music stands, guitar/s and guitar stands, Dynarelle cushion, footrests, Korg 88 fully--weighted digital keyboard, Zoom H4 digital recorder.

As well, I have guitars and equipment both for teaching and performance of various styles, as below. Students will have the opportunity to learn about, play and become familiar with any of these instruments/equipment according to their interests and skill levels.

GUITARS:

CLASSICAL: Ramirez Model 1A Classical (professional concert level instrument)
Cordoba (teaching/practice instrument)
Hohner Acoustic (electric)

ROCK: Fender Stratocaster (pre-CBS)
Shechter Omen6
Shechter Elite Series C1

FOLK: Martin (steel string)
Dobro

JAZZ: Oscar Schmidt by Washburn (hollow body electric)
Gibson SG (electric)

OTHER EQUIPMENT:

AMPS: Fender Twin reverb
Pevey practice amp
Rock amp

Boss GT8 Effects Pedal

*** Travel Equipment ***
Guitar stands, guitar/s, Zoom H4 digital recorder. Generally I do not transport my Korg 88 keyboard to the student's home for lessons, but I can if necessary. However, I do require that piano students have their own piano/keyboard or at least reliable access to one for practice between lessons.

Guitar students should also have their own guitar. I can advise on appropriate instruments and can help students find a suitable guitar for their learning level and price range.

I have approximately taken ten or twelve lessons. I started from scratch, and Brian's input and guidance has helped me to move along pretty fast in my learning. My ear is becoming more selective. My fingers are more and more flexible. My idea of learning piano was to do so, in order to play for me and maybe one or two more people. I've learned with Brian that even if that is the case, I must still handle myself, as if I am going to be part of a band. This is teaching me the importance of counting and keeping the rhythm for me and for others. It basically helps me to have a structure. Thank you Brian

I have been playing music since I was 7, and now play the guitar, bass, violin, piano, and I also sing. By the time I entered the University of Southern California, I had released my first album of original music, toured the west coast with my own band, toured internationally to China, Canada, France, England, Hungary, Ukraine, and Austria, and performed with The Vienna Boys Choir among other notable musical ensembles.

Since receiving my Bachelor's degree in Guitar Performance (with a minor in Music Recording) from USC, I have released three more albums of original music, produced four albums for other artists, and have toured nationally with my own band. I currently play in three Los Angeles area bands and am the live sound engineer for another. I have taught guitar at West Coast Music Academy 18 months, and have taught private lesso
ns for the last 6 years.

With all of this experience and knowledge, I offer a student a very rich understanding of many styles of music. I can ensure that a student gets on the right track towards a bright musical future, whether they want to become a professional musician or whether they want guitar as a lifelong hobby.

*** Lesson Details ***
When you take lessons from me, you will be taking the fastest route to success: playing a lot of guitar! We will cover everything from music theory to technique to soloing to playing your favorite songs, but we won't be spending the lesson time talking. Everything you learn will be quickly put into a playable, practical context, so that you learn the most, and have the most fun!

I have high expectations for my students, and practicing every day is a requirement. But because my curriculum is personally tailored to each individual student, and involves a lot of the music that the student is most passionate about, I find my students often love to practice! I also use a variety of musical texts to enrich the students learning (including, but not limited to, Practical Theory for Guitar by Don Latarski, Effortless Mastery by Kenny Werner, the Real Book series, and various Mel Bay books).

After about 6 months, a new student will have learned most basic chords and scales, the building blocks of playing solos, and a good handful of their favorite songs! More experienced students will have enriched their understanding of guitar and how it relates to the music they love, and music that is new to them!

*** Studio Equipment ***
Lessons will happen in a studio room at the guest house, electric/acoustic guitars, bass and amps are available, it has instruments on the wall, computer with recording equipment, free street parking. In the event that a student in allergic to cats/dogs, the lessons can occur on the backyard at a roofed area.

*** Travel Equipment ***
guitar, amp, any effects if necessary. student must provide guitar (any kind)

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in rock, pop, folk, and jazz guitar styles. I focus on material that the individual student is excited about and wants to learn, and incorporate fundamentals and other pertinent skills necessary to maximize the students ability.

For bass guitar I specialize in rock and pop.

Contemporary songwriting technique is not genre-specific and I can teach any type of songwriting, from hip hop to country to rock. I have been a songwriter for 7 years, and have released 3 full length albums and one EP of my original material. I was also a student in the pilot classes which later became USC's Popular Music degree program. These classes focused on songwriting and were taught by industry veterans Chris Sampson and Richard Smith.

I was trained in advanced music theory as part of my degree from USC. I integrate theory into my other lessons but I can also teach theory alone.

I have advanced skills with ProTools and have extensive experience (5 years) in recording, from professional studios to personal home setups.

Wether you are shooting for the Hollywood Bowl or just want to jam out with your buddies, I am here to help you reach your goals! We will cover everything from bass lines and licks to basic theory and your favorite tunes.

About Moa
Short version:
I sing my heart out. I slam the guitar. I turn my feelings into songs. I help other people make music.
Lover of the beach.
Swedish native in California.

Long version:
My story began in my neighbors’ backyard in the deep woods of southern Sweden where we would lip sync to Spice Girls in the late 90s. I would kick my foot in the air, as the true Sporty Spice I was. Or was trying to be.

A few years later, when I was 12, I discovered a worn out, leather hard case covered with stickers laying around in my house. I opened it and discovered this big chunk of wood with four strings on it.
Disappointment arose when I tried strumming it and it didn’t really make any noise. However, turned out we had a similar looking thing at my school and my teacher showed me how to plug it in to a speaker. Noise: check. Since then
I told everyone that I was gonna be a rockstar when I grow up.

I spent my teenage years playing in bands and eventually moved on to the guitar. I played actively all over Sweden but told everyone that I was gonna move to LA to further my career. And in 2012 that dream became reality.

Since then I’ve been fortunate enough in this rollercoaster called the music industry/life to combine my two biggest passions; music and traveling. I have toured all over the US, the UK, played Warped Tour, US Air Force Bases in the Middle East and Japan and even cruise ships in the Caribbean (my favorite place on earth), all with several different bands. Somewhere along the way I also started passing on my knowledge and teaching music, with a contemporary pop/rock approach and focus on getting more girls into music.

When I’m not performing or teaching, I write as much music as I possibly can. I am signed to BMG's music library both as an artist and songwriter.

I am looking forward to rocking with you! :)

A lot of teachers don't take the time to understand exactly what their student want and expect from their lessons. I play and listen to all sorts of music and I know that different students have different expectations. At the start, you'll learn proper technique and how to play simple basslines, but after a while you'll be able to expand to different genres and more complex songs.

In addition, because of my background, education and experience I understand that different people communicate in many different ways. While in Ireland we may communicate in a certain manner, I am sympathetic to the fact that students from America, Europe, Asia etc may require diverse communication styles. I want to bring all types of people together playing all types of music!

About Fionn
I'm a recent graduate of Berklee College of Music, and I'm extremely passionate about helping others reach their potential! Learning an instrument can be a difficult process but with the right teacher it can be an extremely rewarding one. I understand that different students have different wants and needs and I'm 100% focused on delivering the right service for you!

I've spend the last few years performing on all sorts of stages, from intimate jazz clubs in Boston to Glastonbury, the largest festival in England. I appreciate the varied ways we all experience different types of music and I want to teach you music YOU want to learn. If you want to learn theory, that's fine too but I understand that not everyone wants to.

Let me know as soon possible so we can get started!
