I studied Tin Whistle at University College Cork in Cork, Ireland (and more importantly, in the pubs and parks nearby). I've had a lifelong passion for Irish music, growing up listening to the Chieftains with my mother, and I'm thrilled to pass the tradition along! 

My lessons are relaxed, with lots of interaction and activity. I love to teach through music my students love, so when a student comes in with a piece or a song that they'd like to learn, I always try to work it into my lesson plan. 

Students in my lessons can expect a learning path tailored to their musical or cultural interest, experience level, and schedule. You can learn important musical concepts through any style -- in my lessons, you'll get a well-rounded musical education and a firm understanding of many topics like: 

Music Theory (and how to use it in practice)
Scales (and why they aren't as boring as we think) 
Rhythm (and blues, if that's your jam) 
Groove (or how to play with yourself and others)
Music History (and why heritage is important)

Tin Whistle

Hello! My name is Colin. I graduated from UC Berkeley in 2015 with a bachelor's degree in music. I play keyboards, saxophone, bass, guitar, ukulele, various Irish folk instruments, and drums professionally in a variety of styles, including jazz, pop, soul, classical, and rock and roll. I've been playing piano since age 5 and saxophone since age 12 and have taken lessons with a number of excellent teachers. I have extensive experience teaching music theory, technique, performance, arranging/orchestration, production, and recording techniques. From 2016 to 2022 I was music director at Kid City Hope Place, a non-profit after school program for high school students, and taught more than 2,000 individual lessons and band practices to dozens of students. 

Since its founding in 2021, I've served as musical director, arranger, and saxophonist for one of the nation's most popular cover bands, Tom Sandoval & the Most Extras (fronted by Vanderpump Rules star Tom Sandoval)! I've also played and recorded with dozens of other bands in and around LA, and am one half of a duo, Colin and Steve, that remixes famous video game themes in various hip-hop styles. 

What can you expect from a lesson with me? I start with a customized approach based on the needs of the individual student and a relaxed atmosphere with plenty of room for student initiative -- bringing in songs or pieces to learn is encouraged! I push my students to explore many styles and approaches because I believe that a well-rounded foundation lets you pull the best parts from each style and synthesize them to become a more versatile performer.

I toured Europe for three years in the late 1970s with the folk group 'Dalriada' - I played authentic Irish music with Irish musicians. I intimately know, understand (and will teach you) the real Irish feel!

I have been a professional musician all my adult life, teaching thousands of students over a span of more than three decades!

I use the Zoom app for live interactive lessons from the comfort of your home. 

You certainly have many options available regarding choosing an instructor, but I have to assume that you would like to hire the most qualified teacher to guide you on the journey through the wonderful world of music.

Everyone moves further, much faster, and is more likely to stay engaged by learning from a master teacher with decades of real-world professional experience to share.

I will give you what you need to know, in order to take you where you want to go!

People study subjects for a great number of reasons, consequently I customize my lessons to each individual student's needs and wants.

We learn different ways. Some of us are more visual, some more tactile, some more intuitive, some more cerebral, etc. Understanding this allows me to adapt to each person's most natural mode of learning so that the material is grasped more easily (therefore more quickly), and so that it is retained longer.

I would be honored to share my experience and knowledge with you.

In Beginner Irish Tin Whistle lessons we will learn the basics of the instrument (scales and notes) and an intro into Irish Music. We will learn common tunes for sessions and simple ornamentations to put in the tunes.

Claire S is a multi-instrumentalist currently living in Nashville, TN. As a performing musician, she has played shows across North America, most recently joining CelticIllusion, playing fiddle for their first 2020/2022 Canadian/US tour. Claire is also a member of Micheal Londra’s band since 2020 touring throughout the United States. 
As an educator, In 2019 Claire founded the Nashville Irish Music School teaching music on a variety of instruments both online and in person. In 2012 she became a student teacher for the Atlanta Irish Music School, teaching not only fiddle and concertina, but tin whistle and bodhran. During her time with the Atlanta Irish Music School, she has performed at numerous venues: Chamber of Commerce, Spivey Hall, Atlanta City Winery and Emory Celtic Christmas. In 2013 under the Atlanta Celtic Company, Claire began to play and Irish dance with many bands in Atlanta, Georgia. Claire has participated in the Fleadh numerous years placing in the concertina and flute. In attending the Mid-west Fleadh, she participated in the Grupai Ceoil and Ceili Band competitions. 
Claire plays the fiddle for many Feiseanna (Irish Dance Competitions) throughout the US and Mexico since 2018. As a musician in the Feis Circuit Claire has the privilege of playing the Southern and Mid- Atlantic Oireachtas Competitions.
She is a graduate from the University of Georgia with a degree in Communications Studies and a certificate in Music Business.

Always wanted to learn some Irish music, and Guthrie helped me reach my goal of playing a jig within a couple weeks! Super nice guy, can't recommend him enough!

Often looked at as an instrument for children, the tin whistle is actually a wonderful fun instrument to play! Whether a jig, reel, hornpipe or slow-air, the tin whistle fits into any Celtic ensemble! I can teach you the basics, and when you're ready we can learn more complex tunes and traditional Irish ornamentation as well!

Hi everyone, I'm Guthrie! I love music more than anything else; playing, teaching, composing are all my life passions. My styles vary from Irish flute to classical, and sometimes bagpipes on the side! 

I'm originally from Washington state, but am currently living in Philadelphia. As a teacher, I like to let the student tell me how they like to learn, what kind of music they want to learn to play. I promise you will learn a lot from me, (and me from you!) and have quite a bit of fun on the side!

Collin Vodicka is a Boston based freelance musician. He is a woodwind doubler, composer, and teacher and currently plays oboe with the New England Film Orchestra. He also spends time playing in the Boston theater scene in shows such as Ragtime, Pippin, Parade, and many others. Collin has amassed an audience on social media through his viral covers of film and video game music using instruments from around the world.

Tin Whistle:
The tin whistle, also called the penny whistle or pemperin English flageolet, Scottish penny whistle, tin flageolet, Irish whistle, Belfast Hornpipe, feadóg stáin and Clarke London Flageole, is a simple, six-holed woodwind instrument. It is a type of fipple flute, putting it in the same class as the recorder, Native American flute, and other woodwind instruments that meet such criteria. A tin whistle player is called a tin whistler or simply a whistler. The tin whistle is closely associated with Celtic music.  Let me help you learn the basics of breathing, notes, rhythms, songs and improvisation.

It is completely untrue that some people are "born to sing or play an instrument" while others are not. With my expertise a person who believes they have no talent can learn any instrument, the most "tone deaf" can learn to sing perfectly in tune, and someone who thinks they have "no talent" can become better than anyone out there. I have a unique and very patient teaching style that makes learning any instrument seem easy!

It all started out in a small town called Chatham, NJ where I spent the first thirteen years of my life. I remember loving music as early as I could walk and talk. I started taking guitar lessons when I was seven years old. Along with the guitar, came a love for singing and writing my own songs. When we moved to Pennsylvania the guitar came with me. Throughout my high school years, I spent hours playing with teachers, fellow students, and parties.

When I was sixteen every week for three years I would drive an hour into Philadelphia, by myself, to study with world-famous Artie Singer. His students include such names as Chubby Checker, Frankie Avalon, Al Martino, and Bobby Rydel. Artie co-wrote and produced two massive hit records “At the Hop” and “Rock ‘n Roll is Here to Stay,” both recorded by Danny and the Juniors. 

While going to a Community College in Philadelphia the music teacher there took notice of me, pulled me aside, and told me about a great music school I should attend. He then sent away the application and helped me fill it out. The next thing I knew I was in Boston attending Berklee School of Music! I graduated Magna Cum Laude with a degree in Jazz and Rock Composition, Arranging, and Guitar.

I had originally gone to Berklee intending to major in voice. However, I had no luck with the vocal department there and ended up with nodules on my vocal cords. The damage was so significant that I had to stop singing during my four years at Berklee and turned to study Guitar and Composition.

I tried every vocal teacher in town wanting more than anything to be a singer. What I found was no teacher could help me and it seemed obvious that even though they had the “big name” they didn't know what they wt. I was losing hope. The combination of this roadblock and my persistence led me to the greatest thing that ever happened in my life....... I met Dante Pavone!

I kept hearing about a singing teacher named Dante Pavone. Since I had already tried everyone else, I decided to give him a shot.
