About Robert
It is my experience that no matter what kind of music you end up playing a solid classical piano background is invaluable. I was privately trained in classical piano from the ages 5 - 17 in Los Angeles, California. My teachers were Mary Brady, Mae Gilbert Reese and Jeane Weiss. I graduated from Harvard High School and then graduated from UCLA with BA in art. I am a Los Angeles based artist and composer. Recently I was nominated Best Music Director of the year by the L.A. Weekly for my work on 'Head the Musical' at the Met Theater Los Angeles in 2010. I am currently mounting an opera I wrote at the Met Theater. I have been teaching private piano lessons to students ages 8 to adult for the last six years.

My experience as a musical director has honed my skills as a good communicator and teacher. I know how to get people trained an
d motivated to perform on stage with confidence no matter what their skill level.

*** Lesson Details ***
My lessons focus on reading, technique and basic music theory. I always start my lessons with scales and exercises. This develops good technique and primes the student for music theory. The rest of the lesson is focused on reading and performance. I expose students to different classical composers like Bach, Mozart and Beethoven. Once they have mastered a few pieces, students are then encouraged to study the composers they enjoy the most. It is important for students to enjoy the music that they are learning as I expect them to practice everyday.

Stop wasting your time - take Robert.

I only had the pleasure of taking piano lessons with Robert for two months since I got into Harvard and had to move to the East Coast, but I can confidently attest that he is a phenomenal teacher. To begin with, Robert brings to the table not only his classical training but also an open, creative, out-of-the-box approach. He is extremely knowledgeable and seasons lessons with fantastic facts about composers and pieces which makes everything a lot more interesting and memorable. lessons are versatile and designed to develop several key skills simultaneously. I never really played the piano before but after only two months with Robert I could read notes, develop my technique and actually play two beautiful pieces! If you are looking for a well-rounded, brilliant, cool teacher - search no more.

Brian has been teaching guitar to students of all ages in the Los Angeles area for more than 20 years. With a broad range of musical skills and performing experience that include Rock, Jazz, Blues and Folk music, Brian brings his boundless enthusiasm and love of the guitar into the studio with each of his students, who learn an approach to learning music that includes technique, music theory, performance as well the skill to sing and play. Students of all ages are welcome!

Brian's teaching philosophy, in his own words:

MY APPROACH:
I focus on four areas that I think are essential to being a good music teacher:

* the uniqueness of each student;
* the fact that enjoyment (fun!) maximizes learning;
* the importance of proper technique and an understanding of music theory to build self-confidence;
* the development of musicianship through performance.

EACH STUDENT IS UNIQUE:

About Brian
Brian discovered his talent and passion for teaching while still in college, and has been teaching guitar and piano in Southern California for over 20 years. Gifted at teaching students of all ages and abilities, he combines patience, creativity, imagination and boundless enthusiasm with solid professional training and experience. Brian also has over 10 years experience teaching piano and guitar to blind and autistic students.

A lifelong musician, Brian received his first musical training at the age of 4 and 5 years when his actor/singer Dad and musically talented Grandma taught him to sing and play the mandolin. He began piano lessons at age 5, and formal guitar instruction at the age of 10 years.

By the time he was a 14-year-old high school student, Brian was performing as lead guitarist in rock bands around Southern California
, developing mastery of rock guitar and blues performance and improvisation. Brian went on to complete a Bachelor's Degree in Classical Guitar Performance from California State University, Los Angeles.

Passionate about all kinds of music, Brian's studies include choral music and conducting, Gregorian chant (at the Monastery of St. Pierre de Solesmes, France), and Master Classes with Andrés Segovia and Christopher Parkening. In 1984, he participated as a member of the Honor Choir for the ceremonies of the Olympic Games in Los Angeles, which included recording of original music by Philip Glass for the Olympic Games under the direction of David L. Wolper and Mr. Glass.

As a jazz guitarist, Brian continues to grow musically in association with his colleagues of the Naomi Jazz Group, and other close musical friends who include students of the late, great Ted Greene.

MY APPROACH:
I focus on four areas that I think are essential to being a good music teacher:

• the uniqueness of each student;
• the fact that enjoyment (fun!) maximizes learning;
• the importance of proper technique and an understanding of music theory to build self-confidence;
• the development of musicianship through performance.

EACH STUDENT IS UNIQUE:
My first interest with each new student is to discover how he or she learns, and then to apply appropriate teaching techniques to maximize their potential. I gear my lesson plans to the individual and strive to optimize the learning potential of the student.

ENJOYMENT MAXIMIZES LEARNING:
In a lesson with me you can expect to never be bored, to laugh a lot, learn a lot, be positively engaged emotionally and challenged intellectually. I believe that learning is maximized when the student is enjoying the experience, and is faced with challenges appropriate to their skill level. I aim to make learning music fun, choosing musical selections to learn in the style and genre that relate to the student's interests and aspiration.

TECHNIQUE & UNDERSTANDING OF MUSIC THEORY TO BUILD SELF-CONFIDENCE:
When my students perform in concerts, recitals, juries, auditions, recording sessions or simply for friends and family, they have self-confidence because they know precisely the "how" and "why" of everything required to perform well. My goal with students is to build a solid foundation in instrumental technique and thorough understanding of Music Theory at their appropriate level.

PERFORMANCE:
On a monthly basis, all my students practice performing pieces they are working on during the lesson time, with family/friends as an audience if desired and appropriate, and/or using digital recording to help the student develop a critical ear for their own playing.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Music stands, guitar/s and guitar stands, Dynarelle cushion, footrests, Korg 88 fully--weighted digital keyboard, Zoom H4 digital recorder.

As well, I have guitars and equipment both for teaching and performance of various styles, as below. Students will have the opportunity to learn about, play and become familiar with any of these instruments/equipment according to their interests and skill levels.

GUITARS:

CLASSICAL: Ramirez Model 1A Classical (professional concert level instrument)
Cordoba (teaching/practice instrument)
Hohner Acoustic (electric)

ROCK: Fender Stratocaster (pre-CBS)
Shechter Omen6
Shechter Elite Series C1

FOLK: Martin (steel string)
Dobro

JAZZ: Oscar Schmidt by Washburn (hollow body electric)
Gibson SG (electric)

OTHER EQUIPMENT:

AMPS: Fender Twin reverb
Pevey practice amp
Rock amp

Boss GT8 Effects Pedal

*** Travel Equipment ***
Guitar stands, guitar/s, Zoom H4 digital recorder. Generally I do not transport my Korg 88 keyboard to the student's home for lessons, but I can if necessary. However, I do require that piano students have their own piano/keyboard or at least reliable access to one for practice between lessons.

Guitar students should also have their own guitar. I can advise on appropriate instruments and can help students find a suitable guitar for their learning level and price range.

I have approximately taken ten or twelve lessons. I started from scratch, and Brian's input and guidance has helped me to move along pretty fast in my learning. My ear is becoming more selective. My fingers are more and more flexible. My idea of learning piano was to do so, in order to play for me and maybe one or two more people. I've learned with Brian that even if that is the case, I must still handle myself, as if I am going to be part of a band. This is teaching me the importance of counting and keeping the rhythm for me and for others. It basically helps me to have a structure. Thank you Brian

With a Bachelor's in Music for Guitar Performance from the USC Thornton School, I can teach you just about anything you're looking to learn, from classical to pop to jazz, songwriting to shredding!

About Alex
I have been playing music since I was 7, and now play the guitar, bass, violin, piano, and I also sing. By the time I entered the University of Southern California, I had released my first album of original music, toured the west coast with my own band, toured internationally to China, Canada, France, England, Hungary, Ukraine, and Austria, and performed with The Vienna Boys Choir among other notable musical ensembles.

Since receiving my Bachelor's degree in Guitar Performance (with a minor in Music Recording) from USC, I have released three more albums of original music, produced four albums for other artists, and have toured nationally with my own band. I currently play in three Los Angeles area bands and am the live sound engineer for another. I have taught guitar at West Coast Music Academy 18 months, and have taught private lesso
ns for the last 6 years.

With all of this experience and knowledge, I offer a student a very rich understanding of many styles of music. I can ensure that a student gets on the right track towards a bright musical future, whether they want to become a professional musician or whether they want guitar as a lifelong hobby.

*** Lesson Details ***
When you take lessons from me, you will be taking the fastest route to success: playing a lot of guitar! We will cover everything from music theory to technique to soloing to playing your favorite songs, but we won't be spending the lesson time talking. Everything you learn will be quickly put into a playable, practical context, so that you learn the most, and have the most fun!

I have high expectations for my students, and practicing every day is a requirement. But because my curriculum is personally tailored to each individual student, and involves a lot of the music that the student is most passionate about, I find my students often love to practice! I also use a variety of musical texts to enrich the students learning (including, but not limited to, Practical Theory for Guitar by Don Latarski, Effortless Mastery by Kenny Werner, the Real Book series, and various Mel Bay books).

After about 6 months, a new student will have learned most basic chords and scales, the building blocks of playing solos, and a good handful of their favorite songs! More experienced students will have enriched their understanding of guitar and how it relates to the music they love, and music that is new to them!

*** Studio Equipment ***
Lessons will happen in a studio room at the guest house, electric/acoustic guitars, bass and amps are available, it has instruments on the wall, computer with recording equipment, free street parking. In the event that a student in allergic to cats/dogs, the lessons can occur on the backyard at a roofed area.

*** Travel Equipment ***
guitar, amp, any effects if necessary. student must provide guitar (any kind)

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in rock, pop, folk, and jazz guitar styles. I focus on material that the individual student is excited about and wants to learn, and incorporate fundamentals and other pertinent skills necessary to maximize the students ability.

For bass guitar I specialize in rock and pop.

Contemporary songwriting technique is not genre-specific and I can teach any type of songwriting, from hip hop to country to rock. I have been a songwriter for 7 years, and have released 3 full length albums and one EP of my original material. I was also a student in the pilot classes which later became USC's Popular Music degree program. These classes focused on songwriting and were taught by industry veterans Chris Sampson and Richard Smith.

I was trained in advanced music theory as part of my degree from USC. I integrate theory into my other lessons but I can also teach theory alone.

I have advanced skills with ProTools and have extensive experience (5 years) in recording, from professional studios to personal home setups.

Having played hundreds of gigs and recorded thousands of hours on countless records, from the famed Abbey Road Studios in London to the Village Recorder here in LA, I have a vast body of experience of playing in all styles to help you with the particular skill you want to advance in.
Everyone has their own style with guitar, it's a very personal instrument in that regard. The key is understanding what my students want to achieve and helping them get there in their own way

About Andrew
British born and Educated at London's prestigious Trinity College of Music and The Royal Academy of Music, my professional musical career has spanned over two decades to date. I have performed with world renowned acts such as Sia, Dave Stewart and Horace Andy, and have been a featured recording artist on many of the worlds most famous film scores while myself having authored or co-authored over 30 movie scores.
A Suzuki violin student since the age of 3, I added piano, guitar, singing and composition during my teenage years. The Suzuki method encourages advanced aural development from very early on and this has turned out to be my strongest suit. With my ear, I have impressed some of the most notable orchestrators, composers, directors and producers in London, Hollywood and the world over. In fact, it was these on the spot aural magic tr
icks that allowed me to impress the Hollywood composer that first invited me to Los Angeles to work on my first blockbuster. That opportunity led to many years of success in the industry and some notoriety.
I have always had a passion for teaching, sharing my knowledge with others and watching other people take immense pleasure in their own achievements. I have been told time and time again that I have a very special gift for teaching and I would very much like to share it with you, whether you want to learn an instrument, musicianship, ear training, composition, hone your vocal or mic skills or learn how to arrange an orchestral piece in just a few hours!
I look forward to talking to you about your specific needs and goals and having the opportunity to help you realize them in a fun friendly and authentic atmosphere.

Wether you are shooting for the Hollywood Bowl or just playing around the camp fire, I am here to help you reach your goals! We will work on everything from learning chords and melodies to basic theory and your favorite tunes.

About Moa
Short version:
I sing my heart out. I slam the guitar. I turn my feelings into songs. I help other people make music.
Lover of the beach.
Swedish native in California.

Long version:
My story began in my neighbors’ backyard in the deep woods of southern Sweden where we would lip sync to Spice Girls in the late 90s. I would kick my foot in the air, as the true Sporty Spice I was. Or was trying to be.

A few years later, when I was 12, I discovered a worn out, leather hard case covered with stickers laying around in my house. I opened it and discovered this big chunk of wood with four strings on it.
Disappointment arose when I tried strumming it and it didn’t really make any noise. However, turned out we had a similar looking thing at my school and my teacher showed me how to plug it in to a speaker. Noise: check. Since then
I told everyone that I was gonna be a rockstar when I grow up.

I spent my teenage years playing in bands and eventually moved on to the guitar. I played actively all over Sweden but told everyone that I was gonna move to LA to further my career. And in 2012 that dream became reality.

Since then I’ve been fortunate enough in this rollercoaster called the music industry/life to combine my two biggest passions; music and traveling. I have toured all over the US, the UK, played Warped Tour, US Air Force Bases in the Middle East and Japan and even cruise ships in the Caribbean (my favorite place on earth), all with several different bands. Somewhere along the way I also started passing on my knowledge and teaching music, with a contemporary pop/rock approach and focus on getting more girls into music.

When I’m not performing or teaching, I write as much music as I possibly can. I am signed to BMG's music library both as an artist and songwriter.

I am looking forward to rocking with you! :)

I have studied guitar, voice, piano, music theory, and songwriting extensively at LA College of Music and also independently with music professionals through private lessons for the past 15 years. I have taught privately for 7 years and developed an approach that explains the complexity of these instruments/skills in a simple manner that helps students grasp the concepts and begin playing immediately.

About De'Anza
As an active artist and graduate of Los Angeles College of Music, I believe that teaching is much more than a student learning to play their instrument. It's about creating a fun environment where students not only get a solid musical foundation but are also encouraged to express themselves creatively.

I've taught in the past at Hollywood Music Academy and have been featured for my artistic work on CNN, ABC’s Vista L.A., LA WEEKLY, OC WEEKLY and popular radio outlets like NPR. I have taught privately for 7 years and developed an approach that explains the complexity of these instruments/skills in a simple manner that helps students grasp the concepts and begin playing immediately.

I only take on a limited amount of students so that my attention is fully focused on each lesson.

My approach to guitar is all about getting students playing songs they enjoy right away. You or your loved one will learn fundamentals through making music! We will include music reading if the student has an interest in that aspect of music-making capabilities. I believe the most important thing for a beginner is to get HOOKED on the enjoyment of playing the guitar.

About Teresa
A musician since age 4, Teresa's dad took her early passion for music seriously. So she respects the power that parents have to foster their children's musical lives! She notes the many stories she has heard over the years: "If someone had just supported my interest"... "If my teacher had listened to what I wanted to learn."

These stories and her own passion for music-making inform her approach. A degreed music educator and multi-instrumentalist, she celebrates and uses the musical interests of her students to move them forward. She has three grown sons, including two touring musicians. Their musical lives also influence her work with children, young people, and adults. The point is to celebrate and develop each student's unique, interest-based musical self-expression.

In her home teaching studio in Sherwood Forest, CA, 30 minutes
is the perfect lesson time for most purposes. Options include piano, voice, ukulele, beginning guitar, music reading/theory, and preparation for auditions. Teresa also conducts early childhood music sessions for 3 to 5 year-olds and is available to do group sessions.

45-minute and 60-minute sessions are also available as needed. Teresa recommends 45 minutes to an hour for audition preparation.

Teresa is an awesome teacher! She's a beauty inside and out. Aside from the fact about my son being musically inclined, she goes by the interests of my son or her students and still able to cover the important lessons he/they need to learn. She's got great rapport and very encouraging! I loved the way she said that this journey of my his is not about perfection but rather expression. I believe in her teaching strategies because my son learned so quickly and he was not pushed to learn rather inspired to learn more.

She also holds annual recitals which we got to experience during my son's early learning days with her and I'm proud of how he performed that brought tears of joy! Who does that? Loved everything about that recital and all of Teresa's efforts and service in teaching. I knew we were in the right place and found the best teacher!

I have been teaching guitar for about 15 years now and have taught students between the ages of 6-60 from very beginners to advanced players who want to deepen their understanding of the instrument.

I have an extensive experience playing/teaching a wide array of musical genres and have played numerous stages in the U.S and abroad.

I have a BFA with honors in jazz performance from the Rubin Academy for Music and Dance and have also attended the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music (NYC)

I always try to tailor the lesson to the students needs and musical preferences while keeping core skills that we will try to always incorporate (reading music/ theory for more advanced students, ear training etc.) I'm very passionate about teaching and believe it's imperative as a musician to be able to share the knowledge and experience I've acquired along my musical path.

About Nadav
Hi there,

My name is Nadav and I have been a professional guitar player and teacher for most of my life now. I have a very extensive experience playing festivals and venues in the U.S and abroad and have been teaching beginner and advanced guitar/bass and musical ensemble classes for 15 years.

I always strive to make the lessons fun (otherwise, what's the point? (: ) all the while being educational and try to have the student start playing actual music (simple melodies/songs) from the very first lesson.

For more advanced students- I focus on many valuable technics for live playing/recording situations as well as theory/harmony and ear training and cover a very wide range of musical styles.

I also teach electric bass and Ukulele.

I have graduated from the Rubin Academy for Music and Dance (Jerusalem) with honors and was
a dean's list honoree while attending the New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music (NYC) I have been awarded with the America-Israel Culture Fund's "Exellence in Jazz Guitar" award as well as many scholarships for various prestigious musical institutions around the world.

I'm happy to teach at both my apt. in West Hollywood or the student's home.

Speaking from the standpoint of a colleague of Nadav’s for many years and professional musician/educator myself, Nadav is the real deal. He is my top recommendation, without question, for anyone looking to study the guitar and/or music in general.

Nadav is an extremely gifted and skilled musician, composer, and bandleader with very deep understanding of playing the guitar. He has the experience and versatility to so in a multitude of different styles ranging from R&B, Pop, Funk, Jazz and Ethiopian groove music (check out his incredible band: Abbess Orchestra). He is also extremely kind, has a gentle yet “matter-of-fact” demeanor and is the consummate professional.

For anyone who has interest in learning the guitar and needs an instructor, no matter their experience level, it’s impossible to go wrong with Nadav. Just check him out and sign up!

When I first started playing, I remember struggling with the same problems without any easy solutions. And even when I got all of the notes right, I still sounded like a robot.

I really work more like a coach to remove the obstacle between what you hear in your head and what comes out of your instrument. About Jennifer
I have a Bachelor degree in acoustic engineering and music (classical guitar performance). This is a joint program between the Hartt School and the College of Engineering. This training has taught me not only about music, but also the physics of how musical instruments and hearing work. This is a specialty most teachers do not have.

I have taken voice lessons with Tina Shafer (NYC) and Christine Pasqualone (LA). I've also participated in songwriting masterclasses with Tina Shafer and Jenny Bruce, and studied songwriting with Cari Cole.

My goal is to help students reach their full potential as artists. I work more as a coach than just a traditional teacher. Not every student requires the same approach. I wil
