I had an amazing experience taking vocal lessons with Jo. I came in to our lessons having a lot of experience with playing the guitar, and I could tell right away that Jo had a knack for teaching based on the experience and abilities of her students. She taught me vocal warmups that I use regularly now, helped me work through some of my favorite songs from multiple genres, and helped give me confidence to pursue singing more. I can't wait to take lessons with her again in the future, and would highly recommend her as an instructor!

I teach ukulele in various styles. Living and going to graduate school in Hawai`i, I developed an even greater appreciation for the music and the instrument. The ukulele is an important accompanying instrument in Hawaiian music, but it is also a versatile instrument that can be used in various other genres.

If you have experience with ukulele, I will probably ask you to demonstrate your skill level by playing a song you know. If you are picking up the ukulele for the first time, the first lessons will be devoted to learning correct posture and technique, and you will begin playing your first scales, exercises, and open chords. After a few lessons, you will begin to learn your first melodies and repertoire.

After a few weeks, our lessons will likely take two parallel trajectories, playing the lead melodies to songs and playing the rhythmic accompaniment. This will involve learning the scales or collections of notes that make up each song, while also learning the various ...

"Remi has been a great teacher - very patient, supportive. Also has a lot of good "tricks" to help you through challenging parts of learning an instrument. I have been playing violin for years now, so I have had quite a bit of experience with music instructors, and I feel I picked an extraordinary teacher to help me with the ukulele. (Also, I have a very irregular schedule and Remi has been flexible with reschedules, which I greatly appreciate.) Thanks Remi!"
