Svend is one of the most genuine people I have met thus far. His passion for music and especially brass music is something rarely seen nowadays. I had the good fortune of meeting him at California State University Northridge when he conducted our brass ensemble there. His knowledge and experience being from Denmark gives him a very unique perspective about playing that few other musicians can compete with. Very highly recommended.

Svend is a very fun and engaging music teacher who always gives 110% to his students. He tailors his lessons to the needs of his individual students and it is always a pleasure to work with him.

As a performer I have played in the Los Angeles and Orange County area for the past 3 years as a member of big bands, jazz combos, and 4 piece brass ensembles. I have taught in both one on one settings as well as full ensemble classes and have seen great progress and success in my students in each. Overall my focus in teaching is on sound quality, technique, and stylistic relevance.

About John

My name is John. I am a graduate of the music performance program at The University of California at Riverside. There I studied under several talented teachers including Dr. Tim Labor and Dr. Barbara Bennett, as well as Trumpeters Don Clarke, Richard Chasin, and Joshua Welchez. Since graduating I h

I think that there should be a little more of note testing and learning because without learning the notes, it’s hard to play without knowing how to read the notes. But other than that, everything’s good.

It is generally true that you get what you pay for. I have a doctorate in Trumpet Performance, and I have taught all levels extensively for over 25 years, including at five universities and multiple all-state high school students in Texas. The trumpet method books I have written are my curriculum, and with a commitment of three lessons, the student receives a free 230-page book in PDF format, valued at $50. My teaching style is fun and engaging, including all styles, though my primary focus is classical.

About Daniel

As evidence of my expertise on trumpet teaching, I've written six method books on the subject! Your success is my number one priority. I teach fundamentals (breathing, embouchure, finger technique, articulation, etc.) in very unique and effective ways. My teaching philosophy: To eliminate distra

Finding a highly competent teacher who has been "around the block" and is a PROFESSIONAL PERFORMER, is not easy. Dr. Thrower has a wide spectrum of experience ranging from Jazz Band, to Brass Quintet, to British Brass Band, to Orchestra -- including Solo performance(s). Besides that, he is a composer and has written several trumpet study books. So he brings all of those components to his knowledge base -- an excellent resource base.

A significant improvement for me, due to his input, was to change my mouthpiece to a Giddings Stainless Steel model. It was one of the most profound improvements that now allows me to practice/play longer -- with less effort and greater control of my horn.

A key point for me to make to ANY student.... IF you are serious about the trumpet and you want to advance, then you MUST find a good teacher who will help DRIVE you to excellence. Because trumpet is such a demanding instrument, and you have such limited time to practice (embouchure-oriented restraints), you cannot afford to develop either bad or compromising habits/methods. I have seen other promising students become "ruined" because they did not have the proper tutelage.

The reason why the best universities and music conservatories staff with the best teachers is because it is the only way to produce the greatest players. If you are serious about your horn, and want to move BEYOND the "crowd", then you need a teacher who is above the norm. Dr. Thrower will make it worth your while -- I know.

I have been teaching trumpet lessons now for 25 years. I have been involved in some professional playing in the past and on numerous recordings. I enjoy watching students learn and actually make progress in their playing as they listen to a teacher's advice. I focus on breathing, sound, and technique, which are the building blocks of a successful trumpet player. I do teach primarily from a classical perspective and do not perform or teach jazz playing. However, the technique I teach is helpful for all areas of playing. I would love to help you learn how to play better!

About Mike

I have had an exciting time learning the trumpet! Growing up I always enjoyed music and especially playing the trumpet, but I was always a mediocre and unreliable player. In between my junior and senior years of high school I went through the difficulty of an embouchure change. Though I struggled f

"Ethan is a top notch trumpet instructor. He has been teaching my 15 yo son for almost a year. He is patient, punctual, prepared and skilled at teaching. He has encouraged my son to improvise, which is very much outside of his comfort zone so this is no small feat. Ethan is able to do this because he connects well with my son, he models playing and plays alongside my son with his trombone, and creates a lesson environment in which his students feel safe to try new things. I appreciate the skills Ethan has as I am a teacher myself, but especially as a parent."

He will let you figure things out on your own but also give helpful instructions to lead you on your way to success. Larry is the reason I went from not being able to play the trumpet to two years later playing a level 4 trumpet NYSSMA solo and getting a 25 out of 28. Taking lessons from Larry was the best thing I could have done to get better at playing the trumpet."
