learn how to navigate Ableton as a producer and performer. learn how to use an APC controller as an instrument

About Benjamin
I grew up in Glenside moved to Pittsburgh for school and came back because I love it here...I've been playing for 17 years and have a smorgasbord of influences from Zeppelin to the Beatles to Phish to Radiohead to the dirty projectors to Jay Z to Kurt Rosenwinkel & John Scofield. I have been composing and working with original bands for some 11 years and play regularly in the city and up and down the east coast. I have also been teaching for the past 11 years all over the Philadelphia area. i teach from a method I derived myself from years of learning both in and out of school. I think teaching music is both aural as well as visual and encourage students to listen to music a lot. most of all i feel that music is fun and the students should enjoy learning so i incorporate their favorite artists and favorite songs into our studies. for seri
ous students I love theory and love sharing what I've discovered over the years.

*** Lesson Details ***
I'm a very laid back guy but I take my playing seriously. music is my life and there's nothing I enjoy sharing and expressing more. I learned to love playing guitar when I was 12 from the coolest guitar teacher ever. he had a vibe that i gravitated toward and encouraged me in just the right ways to get me believing in myself. I try to encourage my students the same way. music should be fun above all and sculpt my lessons to each students individual needs so that they are better equipped to succeed.

I have taken lessons from Benjamin, and found him to be an excellent teacher. If you are looking for someone to teach you bass, or guitar you can't find a more patient teacher. I would recommend him to anyone seeking lessons.

This is my second review. As you can tell my the date of my first review, I've taken lessons with Benjamin for about three and a half years. I can honestly say he is the best guitar teacher I've had. He will help you understand the music and you will think like a musician!

Hi there and thanks for visiting! I have been playing guitar, singing, writing and producing music for the greater part of my life. My endeavor is to guide you to an understanding of one or many of these facets and give you the tools you need to become your own teacher as you continue down this path.

Below is a brief synopsis about the lessons I teach:

Guitar/Songwriting:
There will be very little music theory. I never needed much of it to write my own music, other than a few basic theories to get around successfully, so it’s not something we’ll spend a whole lot of time on. I have organized and constructed a course book to keep things lively and moving along efficiently. I call it NOTEbOOK. It’s also great refresher material to revisit in the future.

I teach basic guitar with accented professional appeal and rhythmic structure. My intention is to guide you to create your own original music using straightforward techniques. My goal, once we part ways, is for you to leave ...

About Lorin
I’ve been a writer and musician since I was a teenager, and have been teaching music lessons for over a decade. I began journaling at 15, mostly free-writing and poetry. This was my segway into guitar and songwriting. Over the years, piece by piece, I’ve gathered many angles to my myriad profession.

I’ll never forget my first singer/songwriter experience when I was 17. I watched my neighbor play guitar and sing on his porch. That moment changed my life and set me on the road I’m on today. Music and poetry can be transcendent when there is truth and love behind it.

At 18, I formed a transitory first band, The Screaming Poets. Shortly after, while attending Columbia College Chicago for creative writing, I organized another project called Satori. This group featured an accoutrement of musicians and styles over the course of its existen
ce. From indie-folk to punkish hard-rock to downtempo electronica, it was its own versatile caravan.

Post-Satori and a plethora of songs later, I fell into the world of electronic music production and engineering, getting hands-on with computer software and a keyboard controller. Furthering my advancement in the technological arts, I attended SAE Institute of Technology located in the heart of New York City. I graduated from the program with high standings.

The introduction to electronic music was a seed planted many years ago working with a friend producer and DJ. Over the years that seed developed into a unique cohesion of computer production with organic guitar songwriting. The electronica artist Loryn was born from this elemental form of designing music. Jointly, signed as Loryn with GoDIY Records, I began offering a licensing/production service for other artists, pitching my original remixes of their songs to opportunities in television.

Under Loryn, in 2011, I began releasing monthly newsletters to my fans and subscribers. In addition to artist updates, my passion for writing naturally crept in and became part of the newsletters. I have recently compiled these newsletters, as well as other works, into an anthology of poetry, prose, and flash fiction published in 2015.

Music… Writing… Teaching… Production… Whatever reason you’re here today, I’d love to learn more and possibly join you on your journey.

Lorin helped me hone my songwriting skills immensely, by not only teaching but collaborating with me when necessary. It was refreshing to find someone who put his teachings into practical learning, where I could see the outcomes become apparent. He’s a nice dude, and is experienced equally across his fields. He guided me to making intelligent choices for equipment purchases, both instruments and pro audio gear. We first met while he was living in New York, and boy has he traveled since. I think living in so many different states, and being that well journeyed has given him good cultural depth to his work. Check out some of his own collabs with singers and musicians from all over the world...that really says it all.

I wanted to learn how to play a Gypsy King song for my wife at our wedding. Lorin taught me fairly quickly, he made it fun and really easy to learn. Then I figured I would learn the basics so I can just jam out to songs or just mess around with my guitar. Now I can strum some early 90's or old school alternative songs. It seems alot easier to learn songs now. Super nice guy and very smart/laid back. Definitely worth the money

As an adult learning to play an instrument for the first time, very little has come naturally. I had tried two other instructors prior to Derek and felt as though I made little progress with them. I bring my 22 years of DAW experience to the table with Ableton Live 9.7.

About Stephen
Why should you take lessons from me?
There are some musicians who teach only as a way to make ends meet and there are those who are passionate about education in general. There are some music teachers who will show you how to play songs and call it a day. That's giving the hungry a fish. I prefer to teach the hungry how to catch fish. Why you use a certain rod, line, lure, how to find fish, what fish are edible, how to drive a boat, etc...In musical terms this translates to things such as why you hold an instrument a certain way, the logic behind finger positions, how to construct chords/scales then use them, how to count musically and why, etc...I teach how to think musically and creatively on and off of the page and have a vested interest in the progress of my students.

*See further below for lesson details!*
Azeem the Flutist: I am a Master's student in Flute Performance at the University of Northern Iowa. I have been playing the flute for 13 years and teaching for 7. My main style is classical, and due to the technical training I have had since I was very young, it has been very easy for me to learn and master other styles such as Folk, Jazz, Blues, Beatbox, Hip-Hop, and other styles of flute. I have a passion for performing and have played hundreds of solo and ensemble concerts. As a classical performer, I was the Grand Prize Winner of Santa Barbara Performing Arts Scholarship Competition in 2013 and won 3rd prize at the University of Northern Iowa Concerto Competition in 2016. I have played concerts all over the United States as well as in United Kingdom and Italy. As a performer of other styles I h
ave played in a couple bands (“Dannsair" Irish Folk Band and “Azeem X Underbelly”) and supported these acts on tours.

Azeem the Teacher: I really love spreading the knowledge I've learned over the years about the flute and production/composition (Logic Pro X and Sibelius). I find a huge sense of fulfillment in seeing my students enjoy learning and making beautiful music. I have a high level of knowledge and skills that I am willing to use to teach students from the most beginner to the most advanced on the flute.

It was fun time learning music, especially the flute. I wasn't familiar with the music at all like I was an illiterate in music. Many Thanks for Mr. Azeem for being patient with me and walk me through every basic knowledge in music deliberately. In the end, I am happy to have a new skill in my life which is playing flute. I wish, I have more time to practice more flute and playing professionally. Also, Mr. Azeem is a decent and a respected person in all kinds, teaching, interpersonal conversations, and understanding the difficulty of playing flute for the beginners.

Azeem is a very helpful teacher; he was able to diagnose problems and give many suggestions on ways to fix issues in my playing. He also is friendly and professional, which made for a relaxed, but productive lesson session. We met once a week very consistently, and I can say that my flute playing has greatly improved as a result of these lessons. I highly recommend Azeem, and really enjoyed having him as a teacher!

Azeem was my flute techniques teacher and my lesson teacher while I am pursuing a Instrumental Music Ed degree. I have never picked up a flute and I was impressed at how knowledgeable he is at the flute. Throughout our lessons, he was very quick to spot and correct errors, as well as making the flute very fun and interesting to learn. Throughout our lessons, I was picking up more and more techniques, and was able to pick up the basic fundamentals without creating bad habits. Overall, great teacher and an amazing performer!

Even if you've never touched Ableton before, I will get you creating right away :) As a self-produced synth-pop artist under the moniker mini bear, I have experience teaching at both beginner and advanced levels. Having taught one-on-one in various environments, including at Apple, I have the ability to translate seemingly difficult concepts into relatable information. I have a strong background in music theory, songwriting, and synthesis, and I will show you how you can best use Ableton as a creative tool to reach your artistic potential.

About Lauren
As a vocalist, synth-player, composer, and producer,I use my knowledge and experience in technology based professions to explore the relationship between music and tech.

As a “synth-enthusiast”, I have cultivated a vivid musical aesthetic under the moniker mini bear, with which I have written, produced, and released 2 EPs and 1 full length album. Illustrating a sound rich in 80s referenced romantic nostalgia, mini bear has garnered praise and recognition from respected media such as Grimy Goods, Impose Magazine and international indie press. She currently is an active performer in Los Angeles who has played in local venues such as Resident, The Hi Hat, Bootleg Theatre, Moroccan Lounge, and The Satellite.

In addition to my experience working in Tech, my role as a teacher has also grown over the span of 10+ years. As a Creative Trainer
at the Apple store, I have taught customers computer skills and Pro-Apple software such as Logic Pro in both private one-on-one and workshop settings. I have been producing in Ableton Live for the past four years, and I have done consulting sessions to determine work efficiency. Content and teaching styles are customized based upon the learners skills and learning styles.

I have been using Ableton live for over 7 years. I have learned every in and out as well as key commands most producers do not use. I can teach you the fastest way to get things done in the program.

I use many hidden presets/samples that come with the program. I can teach you how to use the stock plug ins to sound like your favorite artist and achieve the same quality as the expensive plugs ins.

I also was asked by the creators of Ableton if they could sit in on one of my sessions and see how I worked. They documented me for updates and changes to future Ableton updates.

I learned the ropes and then wove some new ones.

About Brad
Hi there,

I'm Bradley. I've been in love with electronic music and sounds since I was a young lad. Since then, I've spent most of my time learning every in and out of creating, producing, mixing, and synthesizing electronic music. Ableton live has been my weapon of choice since the beginning and I have developed my own way to move around the program as quickly and efficiently as possible. Being an analytical person I have gone deep into Ableton to learn even the most minor details.

I know all the stock Ableton plug ins so if you'd like to keep it more basic... I got you. I also know a plethora of 3rd party plug ins, so if you want to explore...I got you.

I've been tutoring for about 3 years now. I can teach Ableton Live to you fast or slow, detailed or vague.

I even was working with the creators of Ableton Live a few years
back when they asked to join one of my personal writing sessions. They wanted to see how I used the program and learn from me for any future updates.

Keep in mind I produce many genres of music such as EDM, Pop and Rap ect.

I'd love to learn more about you and your goals. Talk soon!
