I have experience with all ages from 4 to 65. Each person is different, but age has nothing to do with someone's desire to learn the piano.

About Joan
I started piano lessons when I was about 6 years old. I graduated from the University of Arizona in Tucson with a BA in Music Education. After moving to San Diego, I spent the next 20 years or so being a wife and mom and raising 3 kids, one of them a special needs child due to a drowning accident. I've been a church pianist and choir director for almost 30 years and worked at a charter school in Lakeside as a choir teacher and Music History class teacher. I started teaching piano about 10 years ago on the recommendation of a friend and fell in love with it! I have taught kids from the ages of 6 to 16, but would welcome adult students.
I enjoy and can teach many different musical styles on the piano. If you like classical, we can do classical. If you like pop or Broadway, we can do pop or Broadway. If you like contemporary Christi
an, we can do that. I'm a good sight reader and can help students who are interested learn how. I can also teach improvisation using chords with or without a melody line for students who'd like to learn. I encourage older students to bring in music they are interested in learning. The sky's the limit!

*** Lesson Details ***
I think lessons should be made fun for the student and should be personal time just for them to participate in an activity that they enjoy doing. Parents are always welcome during lessons. With beginners I stress learning to read the notes and other musical notation-dynamics markings, tempo instructions, rests, etc.. I like to use the Dozen A Day exercises as well and, depending on the proficiency level of the student, the Hanon series of exercises for flexibility. I like to use the Alfred Method lesson books for those just getting started. They have good pictures and easy to understand instructions for younger students. They also offer simple Theory instruction books as well. They also have some good adult instruction books. I also like to use a reward system with my students; younger kids can choose from a simple prize box and older ones can receive gift cards from McDonald's, Dairy Queen, etc.. Everyone needs a little reward in life! I like all students to keep a practice log (younger ones can be helped in this by parents) to help with accountability and to see how progress is being made. I also like to have a student recital at the end of the school year, usually in the month of May. The purpose is so that students can meet each other and see what others are working on. I've found that the students themselves are often the best encouragers and inspiration for each other!

*** Studio Equipment ***
Living room w/ piano and seating for parents

*** Specialties ***
Can teach classical, romantic and pop music genres. Can show how to improvise and play from chord sheets with no written music. Fast and efficient in sight-reading.

Mrs. Krystmas is awesome. My daughter was really intimidated trying to learn to play the flute for 5th grade band. When she started, she could get it to make a sound at all. She talked about "hating band" and how she couldn't wait until the end of the year so she could quit. Mrs. Krystmas turned all of that around in 5 lessons. Now she looks forward to going to both her lessons and band at school. She asked me sign her up for more lessons! Thanks Mrs. Krystmas!

Learn the Tricks of the trade and get up and going fast!!!

About John
I have 37 years of playing and 12 years of teaching beginning and intermediate drummers by ear, performance & notation. Preforming drums has brought so much enjoyment to my life and has expanded my cognitive and creative mind more than I would have ever realized when I started in 1978. Teaching/sharing my drumming experience is a passion, my students are taught not only how to play drums but also about music structure (verse, chorus, bridge, etc.), how to perform with other musicians and how to dissect a piece of music. Various styles and rhythms are taught and rudiments are covered thoroughly - nothing better than an impressive double stroke roll! I have always been a teacher that I feel can understand each personality and adjust my approach to each lesson as needed and furthermore, I always treat my students with respect, courtesy and
patience which I find makes them more apt to relax, listen, learn, feel the music and have fun!

love teaching and keeping students interested. It's important to find titles that students can get behind and taking time to find pieces that are appropriate and interest students is my first priority.

I like to make sure that exercises are not looked at as a punishment. Breaking down how to apply a technique is as important as learning it.

Finally, I like to keep things light. I'm not going to motivate you by scaring you into practicing. There are other teachers that are good at that, but that's not my style. I'd rather work on finding out how to get you to be self motivated and actually enjoy what you're doing.

My specialties include jazz and pop styles.

About Steve
I'm a saxophonist, pianist, arranger & songwriter. I graduated from Berklee College of Music with a Professional Music Degree, and currently run a sheet music startup called NiceChart. I have been a Music Director for Middle School and High School Bands and also have over 15 years experience teaching privately. Private lessons allow a better transfer of knowledge and I love watching students progress!

I have been in touring bands, jazz bands, wedding bands, funk bands, and pop bands. Fun Fact: I was even once in a bossa nova Guns n' Roses jazz trio called Guns n' Nova. You could say I've played a lot of different styles.

I teach my clients in my comfortable home teaching studio in Clairemont, San Diego. I work with beginner and intermediate piano students and all levels for saxophone. I'm open to students of any age and music
al goals.

In my music career I've performed with Steffan Lessard (Dave Matthews Band) and Ed Robertson (Bare Naked Ladies) and played in bands that have opened for Guster, Blues Traveler, and The Wailers.

Some of the musical styles I regularly teach: Pop, Blues, Jazz, Funk, Soul, R&B, and Classical.

I started taking saxophone lessons from Steve in Fall 2017 after not picking up the horn in 10 years. He is very knowledgeable in theory and technique and has been extremely beneficial in helping me get my chops back up par. In these lessons I did not have much direction for Steve on what I'd like to accomplish but that wasn't an issue for him as he was able to make each lesson worth while by shedding light on harmony theory and creating lines as well as different techniques to focus on to improve my playing.

I just bought an additional 10 lessons and had my first lesson of 2018 with Steve this May and am very happy with my decision. He is giving me great feedback on charts I am playing and really giving me a sounding board to ask questions and grow as a musician within this instrument (alto). I personally have a fairly solid foundation in music theory but if you are new to music theory Steve can break that down for you step by step.

I look forward to continuing my lessons with Steve and am already seeing the benefits of having a great teacher.

Aku is a talented, kind, and patient teacher. She connected remarkably well with my 4 year old daughter, who always looked forward to her weekly lesson with Aku. She progressed very quickly through her lessons, faster than you would except for someone her age, and I am sure this was because of Aku’s teaching. Aku played a duet with my daughter for her recital. She was the youngest student there and they did so well! I was so proud of her and what’s even better is that she was so excited and proud of what she accomplished over the past year. Thank you so much Aku!!!

It is with great pleasure I recommended Yelena if you are looking for piano teacher. Yelena has been my teacher for much of 2009, after i made the drcision to pursue piano lessons as an adult. AlthoughI had taken piano lessons for a couple years as a child, my knowledge of the keyboard and understanding were of music were limited. I have worked with other piano teachers since reaching childhood, but the expeirience was not inspiring
or motivational.
That all changed when i started working with Yelena.
Her passion for sharing her love of music with her studentshas been great source of joy for me. With her guidance, I am playing at a much advanced level
Then ever before, and with a deeper appriciation of what i am doing. She combines the rigth amount of theory and scale work, with learning classisl pieces.
Yelena has the patience and warms of a great teacher, and believe she would be equally good working with children as she is with adults. Her contribution to promote the love of playing music in her students is a true gift to us all.

I am a classically trained musician with over 20 years experience in teaching international students. I believe everybody has a chance to learn piano- I had students that are young and even 70 years old! Yes! It's never too late. Fulfil your dreams and try- you won't regret it!

About Anna
I am a professional violinist and pianist with MA degree in instrumental performance. I started to play when I was 6. I earned my education in Poland and Germany, where I come from. European music tradition is very long and rich in famous composers, I am sure I have a lot of knowledge to pass to my students and many years of experience in teaching. I have travelled a lot since I was a child, playing concerts in different countries. Before I moved to San Diego, I was a concertmaster of Amman Symphony Orchestra and a violin teacher at The National Music Conservatory. In 2016, I recorded an album called Petra with famous Italian jazz musician called Luca Aquino. We actually recorded few soundtracks in ancient city of Petra, where movie Indiana Jones was filmed. Our album was ranked by a Jazz magazine as 1 of 10 best jazz albums in Italy of
year 2016. Here in California I also record music for films- the last one is called The Bad Seed , produced by Rob Lowe. I had an opportunity to record it in Warner Bros Studios in Hollywood. My latest recording happened in Capitol Records, where I was honoured to be part of the new album of Alan Parsons Project, called `The Secret. I am also a member of La Jolla Symphony, working on my own chamber music projects etc. I can teach classical music as well as pop, jazz and improvisation using electric violin.
I think what makes me unique as a teacher is that I can teach different styles of music. For me there are no borders in playing instrument- it's up to you what you wanna achieve and do with your instrument . My second major is piano so if u want, I can teach piano and keyboards. With CMG Music Recording in Hollywood, which I am part of I filmed and recorded last Thursday a trailer for Super Bowl! You can spot my face for a few second!!
