I teach both from a privately rented studio in Santee and from my home studio in La Mesa. Both are fully equipped for guitar, bass and drum lessons and even have recording facilities! In my lesson plans I try to combine theory and technique with practical application (that is, playing music and rocking out!).
My lessons are structured and goal orientated (I want my students playing songs they love as soon as possible to keep the inspiration and excitement going!) but I adapt each lesson plan to suit the student, accommodating different musical tastes and learning styles. Most important I keep the lessons fun and engaging - it's the best way to learn!
*** Studio Equipment ***
Fulling equipped, professional teaching studio.
Guitars, drums, amps, PAs, Pianos, Mandolins and much more!
*** Specialties ***
Very versatile both in preferred styles and my ability to adapt to students requests. Can cover anything from jazz to metal, or pop to blues, on guitar, bass or drums.

With Classical Guitar, I focus on technique and music reading skills rather than building repertoire right away. I work through the established Aaron Shearer classical guitar course with students with a focus on building good practice habits. Later on we move through solo repertoire, intermediate and advanced exercises and performance etiquette.
Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.
About Lu
I'm very easy going and patient. I cater each lesson individually to the goals of the student and/or parent. I take special care to keep my students motivated and encouraged. My goal isn't just to teach technical skills and repertoire but to help foster a lasting love of music.
As far as my own musical interests, I love classical guitar and the folk/songwriter/indie genres. Artists I listen to regularly include Andrew Bird, Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Glen Hansard, Gregory Alan Isakov,
I also I stay up to speed on most contemporary artists for the sake of my students. I regularly teach songs current pop artists in the interest of maintaining student engagement.
I do have a real passion for Classical Guitar music. There are few things that give me more joy than playing classical guitar. I love any opportunity to share that with someone eager to learn. I prefer to start from scratch with classical guitar students but will work with more advanced students when requested.
*** Lesson Details ***
In my lessons I like to start by reviewing what has been learned in the previous lesson, making sure to address any concerns before teaching anything new. To ensure the student is truly learning and maintaining what I teach during our lessons we will do some short musical exercises which apply to that week's lesson, as well as some musical repertoire that reinforces the new principles taught in that lesson. I feel that correct repetitive practice of these exercises and music will ensure happiness with your progression as a musician. I do my best to learn the musical interests of my students and to personalize each lesson/assignment so that they remain engaged and excited.
*** Studio Equipment ***
I have small studio space connected to my family room with a Piano and my guitars/amps (and any other instruments my wife and I have collected over the years). Parents can sit in studio or relax in the family room during lessons. It's a nice quiet suburban area and there's plenty of parking.
IMPORTANT: For those with serious pet allergies, I do have friendly pets and, although they stay out of the room for my lessons, they may irritate your allergies.

About Trevor H.
CloseLearn how to play classical guitar. Right and left-hand technique. Standard notation reading. Amassing a repertoire.
About Trevor
music began when my mother took me to a performance of Beethoven's
fifth symphony when, coincidentally, I was five. From that point, I
started fervently listening to my mother's records (those are the
huge, black monstrosities that people in the pre-historic used in
place of iPods), followed closely by my father's CD collection.
After a while, this ravenous desire of to know and feel music moved
me to play an instrument. After a couple of false starts with the
drums and violin, I found my true musical calling: the guitar.
On January 25th 1995, on a whim, I began playing the
guitar, and I have yet to put it down. Along the way I've picked up
a number of friends for my guitar, including the bass, the lute, the
sitar and, once again, the drums. After on
practice, I started playing professionally, in bands and solo guitar.
Live playing experience, I believe, is the most important experience
that any musician can have, in that, the most important part of music
is how it sounds, and playing in front of people is the quickest way
to learn how to play effectively. And this is what I teach; how to
be a musician, not just a technician.
*** Lesson Details ***
A student can expect a curriculum tailor-made to their needs and personality. Every person learns differently and this is an important distinction in my teaching style. Some students need a strong hand to keep them working, others need to find many different ways to the same conclusion to keep them focused, while still others need a laid-back friend in order to accept knowledge.
I stress rhythmic literacy, for, as my jazz teacher always said, "rhythm is king." If composition is important to you, then we'll focus on music theory, but if you're just wanting to learn how to play some fun rock tunes with your friends on the weekends, we can do that as well. As I stated before, we'll get you playing in front of people in no time.
*** Travel Equipment ***
I provide an amplifier, a loner guitar (if needed), staff and/or tablature paper, metronome, pens and paper for the lessons.
*** Specialties ***
Music theory and composition, guitar, bass, lute, beginner to intermediate piano
Classical, shred, blues, and rock guitar; renaissance lute; blues, rock and slap bass; composition of many styles; world music.

Learn to play the Spanish Guitar through the unique "Romero Method"
About Jesse
His lessons focus on developing:
- Right and left hand technique
- Finger picking and flat picking
- Tonal and sound quality
- Playing and singing
- The ability to play a solo
- Chords, scales, and arpeggios
Jesseās broad skill set allows him to teach a variety of styles, though heās happy to focus on one particular style if thatās what the student prefers.
Donāt miss this opportunity to take guitar or ukulele lessons from one of the top musicians in San Diego.
*** Overview ***
I studied jazz guitar with Peter Sprague and classical guitar with Celin Romero. While at UCSD, I studied with Pepe Romero in master class
*** Lesson Details ***
I give my guitar students a solid background in right and left hand technique. This includes finger picking technique for the right hand as well as flat picking. Itās important for students develop a correct left hand position, if they wish to continue to play for many years without injury to the left hand. Itās also very important to young students who may wish to move into classical music. Most classical guitar music canāt be played well with a standard rock left hand technique, but all rock music can be played very well with a good classical left hand technique.Ā
Most of the studies I use with my students are songs, scales and arpeggios from my personal library, so it wonāt be necessary for my students to buy any books right away. However, if students want some additional materials to review, I can suggest some titles.
I emphasize the quality of sound that the student produces with the instrument. Many musicians feel that playing a piece of music is like running a 100-yard dash. I prefer that my students play at a comfortable tempo and create beautiful sounds, rather than rushing through a song simply to show an ability to play fast. I feel that itās very important to practice any new piece or exercise at a slow tempo till it can be played well with relaxed hands. When the tempo is gradually increased, one acquires beauty with speed.
Within the first three months, the average student should be able to play some open position chords, bar chords, and arpeggios, and be able to improvise over a chord progression using four or more notes from at least one pentatonic scale. I like my students to learn at least one guitar solo (a piece that features guitar either solo or with accompaniment) within six months that they could play for their friends or parents. If the studentās goal is to use the guitar to accompany their voice, they can learn to sing and play at the same time. This is a special skill that takes time to master, and is something that I have done for years. Iām happy to share my ideas on how to develop this skill with my students.
Ultimately, the progress of the student depends on their talent level and their desire to acquire skills. If a student is interested in only one style of playing, I am happy to focus on it; however, I have a very broad skill set on the guitar and I like my students to develop as many techniques as possible.
*** Equipment ***
Depending on the studentās interest, I bring either a steel string or a classical guitar, and I prefer that the student also have an appropriate instrument. If itās an introductory lesson for a beginning student, I can bring an instrument for them to use for the lesson.
*** Specialties ***
Since 1982 I have played guitar in The Mar Dels, a popular dance and party band so I am familiar with most pop, blues & rock styles of playing.
I have always loved the classical guitar and I am especially interested in good technique and tonal quality.

I received my degree in Jazz Performance with the Guitar as my main instrument. My favorite styles are jazz, blues, rock, and pop. I could teach Bass Guitar, Piano, and Ukulele till about an intermediate level. I took four semesters of Piano classes at CSULB so I learned how to play all scales and arpeggios two hands and two octaves. However, I'd like to focus mainly on teaching the guitar to all levels, especially to those who are focused and dedicated to the instrument.
For whatever reason, I have a good knack for theory and ear training as well, so I could always teach Music Theory as well. I'd be a great Jazz Theory teacher.

I also called Edward when I was choreographing a play at MiraCosta College and needed a guitarist to create the music for the play and perform it live. He is extremely creative, a problem-solver, and team-player. I couldn't ask for a better person to do the job.

I've been taking lessons with Ed for about 8 months.
Ed is teaching the flamenco basics and techniques, and also makes sure he adds in some easier items so that I can see progress. The lessons are comfortable - Ed has an easy going personality that makes the lessons comfortable and enjoyable.
Very pleased with Ed as my instructor
