My students have appeared on stages of all sizes, throughout the Northwest. From the beginner who just wants to sing in their shower to burgeoning professionals, I am happy to help!
Why Choose Carla:
• Work on your singing in a warm, friendly and private studio with an experienced teacher that makes singing fun! Students of all ages are always welcome!
• Member of the National Association For Teachers of Singing (the only selective professional organization for Voice Teachers) whose mission is: To encourage the highest standards of the vocal art and of ethical principles in the teaching of singing; and to promote vocal education and research at all levels, both for the enrichment of the general public and for the professional advancement of the talented.
• Voice students learn more then just how to sing, they learn how to be performers and musicians.
• I will not take on a student I cannot help.
• Voice students have MANY performance opportunities offered to them that are appropriate for their level
My unique studio uses the basics of Bel Canto technique to teach all styles of music to all ages. Parents often comment on how much fun their students have in lessons, while getting feedback from outside professionals (adjudicators, directors, etc) on how much their technique has improved. Adult students are commonly shocked by how easy singing can feel as they meet their career goals.
Current students can be seen performing with: America's Got Talent! Hardrock Cafe LAS VEGAS! Broadway Bound Bellevue Opera Puget Sound Concert Opera Seattle Gilbert and Sullivan 5th Avenue Theater Theater Schmeater 13 Coins Hwy 99 Blues Club The Showbox Chop Suey Dicken's Carolers And MORE!
I realize that voice lessons can be REALLY scary and I totally understand why, especially for kids and beginners! I do my best to use modern psycology and technology to help my beginning students feel confortable in what can be a frightening new endeavor.
Personal Performance Experience: Extensive lead and supporting opera performing experience with Bellevue Opera, Puget Sound Concert Opera, Skagit Opera, Tacoma Opera, Portland Opera,Seattle Gilbert and Sullivan, Seattle Opera and Seattle Youth Symphony. Prior to that spent 7 years performing Jazz and Gospel and 10 years in musical theater.
Personal Education: BA in Music from Seattle Pacific University 2002, MM in Opera Performance (Unfinished due to 1 year of German) at University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana.
Teaching Experience: 8 years as a private voice teacher in my own studio, 3.5 years teaching opera workshops throughout the USA, 2 years working in studio with local bands as a 'fixer.'
Have you tried lessons before and felt unsuccessful?
Not all students learn the same way and for years voice teachers have been treating every student as an aural learner. What I have found is that students with a history of struggling with matching pitch simply need to be taught in a different manner. That is why I now ask students to take a voluntary learning style inventory prior to their first lesson.
Visual Learner? Not a problem when "Adam" started with me he could only match pitch 30% of the time. But after finding that he needed to see concepts in order to learn them I have now made all of his lesson visually based and he is now averaging 90% pitch accuracy 3 months later.
Kinisthetic Learner? I had the hardest time helping "Clark" learn new music until we realized that by taking the time to have him play his parts himself on the piano he could learn them in minutes. He just is a person that learns by doing and now that we know that, music has become so much less frustrating for him.
Physical Learner? With "Steve" the traditional 'visualization' style of teaching that most voice teachers start with just wasn't helping him improve his sound and reach the high notes we both knew he had. After we figured out that he needed large muscle movements to understand concepts I added the use of a resistance band to his lessons. He has had so much success with this technique that he 'stole' my resistance band so he could use it in recording sessions and before he got on stage.
The stories just go on and on.

*** Lesson Details *** Students help structure their lessons by providing a general overview of their goals during their first lesson. Just as not everyone's voice sounds the same, neither does everyone's lesson!
A typical lesson begins with vocal warm-ups specifically targeted to strengthen the students technique and help them learn more about their voices capabilities. Next students work on songs of their choosing, that help them develop the freedom of voice, control, stamina and overall vocal health that they will need to be confident in their performing.
Additional opportunities for performance are provided for students as desired. These may include Karaoke Nights (for adult beginners), no-stress recitals, studio sing-a-longs, community choirs and small roles in local productions.

Carla is a teacher who focuses on each individual student. I have observed the results of her students’ success in multiple music genres. I have studied with Carla for classical training, musical theater, jazz, and audition prep, and have seen positive results in each of these areas. Carla really works to make sure her students gain experience (she often arranges public performance opportunities at venues such as coffee shops, etc.) and she makes sure her students are aware of (and prepared for) upcoming auditions. Each lesson is followed up with an email from Carla re-capping the main points stressed in that lesson. I highly recommend Carla, whether you are a beginner or a seasoned performer.
I've been a Broadway gal my whole life. Through my education and professional performing experience I have great knowledge about Broadway style and presentation. A well rounded, versatile, and free voice is the goal for all students.

If your are looking to be the Best. Be trained by the BEST TEACHER! Frank Thomas has been my best vocal trainer for years. I couldn’t be the singer I am with out frank. I wouldn’t be in operas, solos and many musicals journeys with out his ways of training me. DON’T look anywhere else. This is the best and also he is fun!!! I remember when I first started with him. In 3 days. Yes 3 days with me working on my voice with him I heard a big dramatic operatic voice come out of me!!!! I’m telling you look no further. Trust me.
Eager to teach all levels of singer. I'm here to help you reach your goals, gain confidence, find your voice, and most importantly have fun!

Bianca also participated in the audition based Opera Workshop for her Freshman and Sophomore year under the instruction of Drew Minter and Miriam Charney. She also acted in the shows Revolt. She Said. Revolt Again and the Regional Tour of James and the Giant Peach as Aunt Sponge. When Bianca is not singing she can be found doing stand up comedy with her comedy group Indecent Exposure.
I would be so honored to be a part of your journey with music. I like to make music fun, because it should be. But I also want to help you feel comfortable and confident with your voice. When I was 15, I almost lost my voice and I lost my confidence. But every time I would listen to music I decided giving up wasn't an option. I started working with my vocal chords and breathing techniques. I came up with a vocal strategy that brought back my voice and confidence. I would really love to share with you the warm ups and the methods that helped bring music back. We will work on music theory, vocal warm ups, proper breathing techniques, and so much more. I think teaching should be positive, reaffirming, and a happy experience. I can't wait to work with you!
I am a professional singer/songwriter. I have worked hard on vocal strategies for the past five years due to the fact I almost lost my voice. I had a vocal chord issue that took quite a few years to clear up. While it wasn't fun or enjoyable, I was able to learn alot about myself and my voice. I had to teach myself how to sing again and it was a struggle. No matter who you are or where you come from you can succeed. I love working with kids, I have been teaching my neice to sing for three years and she has come such a long way for a 6 year old. That is just one example. I like taking every student of mine and bringing out the best in their voices and in them. That is what a teacher should do. I can't wait to meet you!
I took voice lessons from Ms. Jennah and found all her vocal techniques, tips/instructions, very useful in my vocal career today.

My daughter took voice lessons from her and loved it!
Lovely voice, perfect pitch, and a refined taste in music.
She has awesome patience and is very passionate about her music, teaching students to perform well, sing, and have fun.
"Great, knowledgeable teacher with terrific attitude."
"Amber accomodated me on short notice getting me prapared for an audition. She is wonderfully giving of her time and energy and her expertise in musical th
eatre. i was thrilled by how hard we worked, what great shape she got my voice into, and how dedicated she was in helping me prepare, not only vocally but, with character work as well."
Serena worked with my daughter for a few critical months when she was working on her lead role for the school musical. My daughter enjoy
ed working with her. She has outstanding professionalism not only when working with my daughter but also working with me on her scheduling. I would highly recommend her to anyone looking for online singing lessons."
"My experience with Stephanie has been exceptionally awesome and inspiring over the last year. She is sensitive, super positive, and full of light and ener
gy when it comes to guidance. I have never felt so confident as a singer, and though I still have a little bit to go before Broadway, I highly recommend her to anyone interested in rapidly developing or fine tuning their singing voice. She is also exceptionally talented as a singer herself and truly tailors sessions to really benefit your particular goals and vision for where you want to bloom as a singer."
"I just got started with her but she's really nice and seems to know what she's doing. We did vocal warmups"
"Corinne is amazing! I have been studying voice with her weekly for about two years now, and my musical theatre callback and booking rate has multiplied so
much since before I started with her. She is so friendly and accommodating to my crazy, unreliable schedule. She always manages to fit me in when I need to see her for audition prep etc. She has also helped a lot on the business end of things with helping me create/work on my Book. She is wonderful at pinpointing what needs to be worked on most individually with her clients and letting that be an area of focus, while still making sure to give a full lesson with everything you need. For me, my weakness when I started with her was my mix. Now, two years later, at the last musical theatre audition I had (which I booked) I was complimented by the musical director about how nice my mix was. I definitely credit Corinne for that! I would highly recommend Corinne to singers of any level! Whether new and wanting to learn how to carry a tune, or professional singers looking for a good vocal workout, she is your lady!"
"Melissa has been beyond helpful and informative as an instructor. I've taken 3 lessons so far and I can say that I see a big difference in my singing in s
uch a short amount of time. Before taking lessons, I thought I could only learn how to sing in my "head voice" (ex. Phantom of the Opera) but when I started taking lessons with Melissa, she helped me discover my "chest voice". It really amazed me on how much she can pull out of you!
I can also say that each time I take a lesson with her, I regain a higher amount of self confidence. I honestly couldn't have asked for a better instructor!
Thanks a million Melissa!"
"Cheryl is wonderful performer and a beautiful person. As a former director during her elementary and middle school years, she has taught me many things t
hrough her preparation and performances. She is the epitome of hard work, dedication and striving to be the best that she can be. By the way, she also has a beautiful voice and a wonderful way with people."
"24 yo Baritone | I've taken singing lessons with Steve for about 10 months. Before starting, I had moderate singing experience from competitive high schoo
l choirs but had regressed by picking up a few bad habits in the 6-ish years since.
I came in with few specific goals aside from becoming a better all-around singer.
Steve initially helped me improve my technique and cultivate a fuller sound using a variety of physicalization exercises. Since, we have progressed through songs he selected that each challenged certain parts of my voice while also highlighting my strengths. We'd keep coming back to songs I struggled with until I developed the desired skill. In that way, each song kind of brought its own lesson.
10 months later, I have a collection of songs I can perform confidently. In this time, we've also spent time on music theory and focusing on new skills I grew interested in improving (like singing with quiet intensity).
Finally, it's also important to note that Steve has always been patient, kind, and supportive. I was nervous before starting singing lessons again, but his gentle though direct feedback put me at ease quickly."
