For academic tutoring (i.e. math, theory, vocabulary) I work on helping the student understand their homework and help prepare them for tests. I can also provide worksheets if necessary and am prepared to demonstrate problem areas in different ways if needed, because everyone learns differently. For voice, piano, music, and acting lessons I teach the student based on what their current level is. If you have no experience, that's okay! My lessons are uniquely designed to fit your needs no matter what level you may be.
As a music major I developed a deeper understanding of music theory, piano, voice, and theater. I received my A.A. in Music at College of the Desert and my Bachelor of Music degree at the University of Redlands- which I attended on a music scholarship. I have played leading roles in several operas and musicals in Southern California, including Gianni Schicchi, Die Fledermaus, La Boheme (DTL nominee), The Impresario, The Grand Duke, Patience (DTL award), Cosi fan tutte, Little Women, Seussical, and many more. I have also appeared in several concerts, opera scenes, competitions (winning music scholarships and theater awards), and worked as a singer in churches, restaurants, and in pop bands. I continue to stay active in the performance industry, because performing is a part of who I am and I could never live without it!
With this experience under my belt, I feel a desire to pass on my knowledge to students. I carry a strong passion to help people develop their abilities and make them their own. I truly believe that if someone wants something out of life they will achieve it with dedication, perseverance, confidence, and by having fun doing it!

I have recently graduated AMDA The College and Conservatory for the Dramatic Arts with a Bachelor's Degree in the Performing Arts. I have over twelve years of experience playing the flute, as well as over six tutoring my peers and younger students in academia. I spent these six years primarily helping people with what they needed help with. My prior experience was both volunteer and me being…well, me! I also have over twelve years of experience as a nanny and childcare provider. I love working with children and find that one of the most fulfilling things to see in life is seeing a child’s passion increase ten-fold as they learn more about something that intrigues them. I adore sharing knowledge and I feel that helping others reach and attain their goals has helped me to learn more about myself and what I must do to reach my own. Lessons (in the pupil’s desired focus) will begin with a small look at how each student operates. Everyone learns differently! Lessons will then expand into fun and in depth sessions as I help each student find what exactly it is that intrigues them most. This will be accompanied by ironing out the wrinkles of the more complicated things. Lessons will always end with a laugh and a smile!
No matter what it is you decide to tackle, you can learn it. There is absolutely nothing that you can't learn. I'm here to help you!
*** Lesson Details ***
Lessons in each of my specialties will be run a little differently. Here are the general breakdowns for lessons that I will run:
Flute Lessons: In these lessons, we will begin with a warm up and then a review of what has been learned in the previous lesson or more of the fundamentals that may have not been learned yet. After this segment, we will continue to push forward with correct technique and musicianship. The end of the lesson will be devoted to giving things to work on as well as something fun that will be learned before you are dismissed.
Academic Lessons: In these lessons, we will recap what we have talked about before as well as explore what I have most recently given the student. We will then meticulously go through the lesson to make sure that you comfortably understand. To conclude, we will make sure that all questions are answered as well as make a plan of action for the next lesson.
Acting Lessons: In these lessons, we will have a productive and interactive warm up. As soon as you feel ready we will tackle your project. I will teach you beats, arcs, break downs, and make sure that you know and can react to what is happening in your piece. You will have an amazing time and I promise that you will go away with a little more insight than you had when you came in.
*** Travel Equipment ***
The only lesson type that requires any equipment is the Flute lesson. I will bring a music stand, my own personal flute to help the student mimic things that I will show him/her, as well as the books that I will help train him/her with (if you have your own personal books you would like to use, we can use those as well). I still do expect the student to have his/her own flute. For all other lessons, no travel equipment is necessary. We are going to have a blast!
*** Specialties ***
My upmost specialty in teaching is Flute. I train beginner and intermediate students how to play, read music, create musicality, and help prep them for competitions, recitals, and other performances. I have personally been playing the flute for over 12 years.
My next specialty is helping tutor and teach academic subjects. I will help mentor you or your child to get better grades in school in the subjects mentioned above. I help teach beginner and intermediate students.
My last specialty is helping coach acting. I have received my BFA in Performing Arts and love acting and theater. I specialize in helping beginner and intermediate students prep for auditions and learn about the art of theater itself. I will help with techniques as well as personal coaching.

I taught at the university level as well as high school so I understand what it takes to make the transition from one to the other. My method of tutoring focuses on methodology in analyzing texts as opposed to the brute memorization of facts. Because I have a background in a lot of different topics I tend to allow lessons to move over a wide range of fields, depending on what interests the students. T
I have in the past conducted my classes as book clubs in which students voted on books to read and I worked my lessons around these books. I believe that this method can be particularly valuable for the smaller more intimate setting of tutoring. Ultimately, I like to see myself as a living resource that students can use to help them connect to the world of books and of private reading where the true process of education lies. I would finish by noting that I have particular experience in dealing with special needs students such as those with Asperger's Syndrome.

A while back, there was a television show hosted by a T.V. personality named Monty Hall. In the show, Monty presented a contestant with 3 closed doors. Behind one door was a new car. And behind each of the other two doors was a goat. The contestant had the option to choose one door so as to win the new car.
The probability that a car was behind door 1 or door 2 or door 3 was the same, about 33.33%. Let us say that the contestant picked door 1. Monty would then open one of the other two doors that were not chosen by the contestant. There were 3 terms in the game: 1) Monty knew what w
Let us say Monty opened door 3 revealing a goat. Monty then asked the contestant if the contestant would like to switch to door 2 or keep his original choice of door 1. Contestants would be bewildered not knowing really what to do. Was it better to keep the originally choice or was it better to switch or it would make no difference whether to keep the original choice or switch?
Meet Marilyn vos Savant. Marilyn wrote a column called “Ask Marilyn” in a newspaper called Parade. Marilyn was known for having one of the highest recorded IQ. A reader sent Marilyn a letter asking her if it was better to switch or not to switch. Marilyn stated in her column that a contestant should switch since switching doubled the contestant’s chances of winning. Many of Marilyn’s readers erupted in protest including readers with Ph.D., mathematicians, and academicians. Most people believed that the probability that a car was behind door 1 or door 2 was the same of 50%.
This became known as The Monty Hall Problem or The Monty Hall Paradox. Articles and books were written over this problem. Actually Marilyn was right and this was proven using computer simulation. Yet until today many people cannot understand that switching doubles the chances of winning.
At first glance this paradox might seem irrelevant to teaching. But I think it does. This paradox tutor the mind in the subject of structured thinking which is very important in learning.
