I am an outgoing, positive teacher who has a passion for music and for sharing this passion with students in a fun and relatable way. I don't approach every student the same way - as unique individuals, I learn about the student's goals and personality, and will create customized lessons based on the information and relationship we form. Knowledge of the instrument, music theory, and basic fundamentals are building blocks of any lesson, but the sky is the limit!!

About Regina
I was inspired to play the violin after seeing the local middle school orchestra perform when I was 8 years old. Since beginning group violin lessons the following school year, I have been consistently involved in developing my passion for and involvement in music in versatile ways -participating in many classical orchestras and ensembles, interning at 91X radio station during college,
and performing as a session musician and live string performer in the San Diego music scene.

In 2010, I graduated Cum Laude with a B.A. in Music and a minor in Pre-Therapeutic Psychology from Point Loma Nazarene University. In addition to teaching lessons, I play for weddings, parties, and other events, and can be found rocking out on stage in acoustic world punk band QUEL BORDEL!

I teach from more traditional methods and use my personal history to p
rovide a well-rounded learning experience. I enjoy sharing the beauty and creativity of classical music, Irish/world music, hymns/religious pieces, as well as contemporary songs.

My approach to teaching is very holistic, helping to create for each of student a solid foundation of music theory, history, note-reading, and technique while also exposing them to a variety of pieces and genres so they can be better prepared to explore what most interests them.

I am 65 years old and had not taken violin lessons since I was in the 6th Grade.
I inherited my dad's violin and had a new desire to take lessons. Regina made
me feel comfortable and assured me that I can make progress with practice.
She is professional and friendly.

Learn any piece you want! With instructor's perfect pitch, you're not limited to just books. Sarah will teach you posture, rhythm, reading, sound, performance, technique, etc.

About Sarah
Hello, my name is Sarah. I'm a classically trained violinist and pianist that has a passion for music and teaching! I started both instruments when I was 4 years old, and obtained perfect pitch--I can compose/transpose whatever you would like to learn just by singing or showing me the music on YouTube. :) I use this gift to compose, transpose, and teach music of all genres of various instruments and arrangements (classical in different keys that fit levels and vocal ranges, contemporary, jazz, soundtrack, rock, pop, folk, etc.).
I have taught students as young as 3 yrs old and as old as 83 yrs old, students with physical/mental/learning disabilities, group lessons and more! I believe that learning to play an instrument doesn't have to be difficult or frustrating, and that it should be enjoyable and fun!

*** Instructor's Music History
***
Because mother was a piano teacher for over 30 years with contagious passion for music (teaching while I was in the womb and an infant), music was inevitable. At age 5, I began performing solo and in ensembles, and since age 6, I've been a part of the church choir, school ensemble and later the school band, and orchestra. As I entered high school, I decided to become more active and take leadership in the ensembles. I became the Concert Mistress of the symphonic and string orchestra and held onto my first chair until graduation. I also participated in the San Jose Philharmonic Orchestra, as first violinist. I was a first violinist of the Korean American Music Supporters Association (KAMSA), performing a concert at the Disney Concert Hall. Since 1997, I have won countless awards from CWC Annual Music Competitions, California Music Education Association, KTVN Bay Area Annual Music Competitions, Prospect-Westmont String Orchestra voted Most Outstanding Instrumentalist, and passed all levels in both piano and violin in Certificate of Merit (CM) Tests.
I moved to San Diego to study Music Performance at University of California-San Diego. I became the Concert Mistress of the UCSD Chamber Orchestra and look forward to continuing my education for Music Performance, Music Education, and Music Therapy. In my music career, I've worked in senior communities as the music director, conducted orchestras and ensembles, formed and performed in duets, trios, and quartets, in public and private concerts, weddings, nursing homes, etc. I also am a part of an indie rock/bluegrass band (voice and fiddle) recording and performing, as well as a classic rock band (voice, keyboard, violin). In my free time, I compose and transpose for myself as well as for my students who would like to learn an easier version of a piece, different genres like pop songs, movie soundtracks, TV shows, favorite artists, etc.

*** Lesson Plan ***
Mix and match genres and lesson elements: Classical, contemporary, jazz, soundtrack, rock, pop, folk, ensemble, solo, theory, sight-reading, technique, Suzuki, Hanon, etc.
My main priority in every lesson is to make learning an instrument fun and comfortable. I have a plan mapped out for every lesson, for every student. Depending on the student's age, level and preference of genre, I pick out books suitable for each student, and also ask the student to bring in a piece or book they would like to work on. I find it important to make every lesson enjoyable, so it is crucial that the student enjoys the homework assigned when they leave the lesson. I usually begin the lesson with warm-ups, scales, music theory, then continue with reviewing past homework, focusing on posture, rhythm, technique, etc. Lastly, we will sight-read and preview the next pieces to be assigned for homework. Pace is set mostly by the student and how much they practice, but I will always nudge the student to improve in musicianship and posture after every lesson, with patience and perseverance.
[There will be an annual/semi-annual recital, optional but highly recommended for all students!]

** SPECIAL NOTE FOR BEGINNERS **
If your child is a beginner, we will take turns picking songs (i.e. one week "Pirates of the Caribbean" and the next week "Minuet in G" by Bach) to ensure that they practice. I utilize stickers and goal-oriented tasks to have fun and encourage students to maintain their interest and also hold them accountable.
If you're a beginner adult, I will require more self-discipline from you, but you will not be excluded from sticker rewards. ;) We will still pick songs and genres you want to play, with classical and recognizable folk songs to cover the basics.
Whether you are 3 or 83 years old, I look forward to helping you play any instrument with comfort and enjoyment, with the right posture and techniques.

About Laura
I am a multi-instrumentalist and have been teaching piano since 1998. My students' ages range from 4 to 60+. I have been a musician for the majority of my lifetime, having started playing piano at age five. As a multi-instrumentalist I teach piano, clarinet, violin and guitar. I have also taught elementary school classroom music at a private school and directed musicals for them.

I have my BA in Music from San Diego State University and I am well prepared to teach music. One of the highlights of my music education at San Diego State was the privilege of playing violin for the SDSU Symphony Orchestra, performing master works such as Beethoven's Fifth Symphony as well John Williams' Suite from Star Wars.

I also received an Associate of Arts degree at Grossmont, College in El Cajon, California, with an emphasis on music education.

My lessons consist of exercises that emphasize proper techniques for each instrument.Lessons are tailored to the specific needs of each student. I would like my students to fully understand the entire musical process, including theory. I prepare lesson content to meet the individual needs of each student.

My students have expressed that they enjoy my music lessons. I am serious about lesson content and am always seeking new ways to make lessons more enjoyable. I include parents/guardians by informing them of lesson requirements and progress, and encourage all to ask questions or make suggestions.

It is my goal to share the joy that music brings to each life. I am looking forward to meeting you.

Laura has a great sense of humor, which comes in handy when I am not doing as well as I would like. She is a very patient teacher, as well as creative in her teaching strategies. When I was taking lessons with her she was studying music at SDSU and utilized her fresh education in our sessions. Also, her at home studio serves as a relaxing setting, which was just my style.

I provide students with original compositions, both solo pieces and duets, that teach the essential motor memory that is necessary to play in tune. Sound files of all of these pieces can be listened to and downloaded from a website.

About Richard
I have studied the violin since I was six and have played for several decades in professional symphony orchestras, opera companies, and musicals. I've also attended many chamber music workshops and have played as a soloist at restaurants, weddings, and retirement communities. I began teaching violin in 1977.

It's hard to play the violin in tune, and ten years ago I began to compose studies for my students that help them proactively to learn to play in tune. I call this approach The Pitchfixer Method, and it's based on principles of motor memory. I've used this approach with dozens of students with great results; it forms the core of the curriculum for the first several years.

My current students include young children, teenagers, young adults, and mature adult beginners.

*** Lesson Details ***
My approach to teaching is
based on helping students become aware of their motor movements, particularly in their arms, wrists, hands, and fingers.

This rigorous training in violin technique is accompanied by precise instructions on how the student should move around on the violin. This helps to assure that the student learns right from the start how to play in tune. Within several weeks of starting out, students are able to play short pieces for their families and friends.

I also have a great sense of humor and am a very good communicator. In addition to the three volumes of solo studies I have composed, I assign duets to students, including 24 of my own compositions. Duets allow students to play alongside me and discover how to match their harmonies and rhythms with mine.

As students advance, I also assign them bowing and double-stop exercises. My method teaches students to read music gradually, introducing a few notes at a time.

For all of the studies that I have written (which form the core of the curriculum), I provide students with access to Mp3 files on the Internet so that they can listen to the pieces. This allows them to learn the pieces by ear, to complement their music reading skills.

*** Studio Equipment ***
For students who come to my home studio, I provide a quiet place in which we can work, free from distractions. There are chairs and music stands, a piano, and a vast library of violin music.

*** Travel Equipment ***
A music stand and music. I expect my students to have their own instruments.

*** Specialties ***
I have developed studies based on principles of motor memory to help students learn to play in tune. I am primarily a classical violinist but also play and teach popular tunes and improvisation.

Incredible Teacher!

I am 58 and began learning violin with Richard almost 2 years ago. I am so fortunate to have found him as my first and only teacher. Richard's style of teaching is really incredible; he's skilled and experienced enough to take a student in virtually any direction they want, while making sure to keep the student focused on the essentials of learning to master the instrument. His self-published lesson books teach a student everything they need to learn in a fun and unassuming way; I learned how to read music and great technique without even realizing it.

Richard is ultimately dedicated to teaching his students how to play well and he's continually improving his teaching method. You couldn't ask for a better teacher!

In my one hour of comprehensive teaching, students learn extensively the techniques of the violin, including tone production, vibrato, musicality and pieces of music which are chosen from standard violin literature or Suzuki books. The whole idea is to get students to look at the whole learning process as a fun activity, and very soon they acquire the ability to produce beautiful sounds, correct intonation and strong vibrato. In addition to the above, I conduct some some ear-training exercises to improve intonation as well.

About Nader
I am a violinist and composer. I have trained more than 400 students in more than twenty five years of teaching.

*** Lesson Details ***
Each lesson includes scales, arpeggios, etudes and a new piece of music. I emphasize on correct intonation, accurate rhythm and strong vibrato for better expression and thorough musicality.

*** Studio Equipment ***
My studio at my home is a spacey room that is properly ventilated and well lit, possessing enough chairs available for both my students and possible guests. There are two music stands and an electric Suzuki piano, which can be used for accompaniment in our lessons, especially in preparation for upcoming concerts.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I have a 2012 Toyota Corolla car, with a trunk that has ample space to house and carry my instruments and music stands as they are needed.

*** S
pecialties ***
Patience and communicating in an effective way and encouraging students to practice without regarding such a task as a chore.

Mr. Nader is an excellent instructor who always puts his students first. He customizes his lessons in accordance to each individual and patiently works with them so that they may achieve their optimum potential.

More than just a passive teacher of the violin, Mr. Nader dedicates his time and energy as a full time instructor of violin, cello, and music theory. Furthermore, Mr. Nader exhibits a level of knowledge, intellect, understanding, and culture rarely seen in the world today. When one walks into his music room, one will be struck with awe at not only the amount of books in Mr. Nader's library collection, but also the wide variety of subjects ranging from Music, Music History, Biographies, Psychology, Sociology, Philosophy, and many more. However, do not think that these books are just for display. Quite the contrary, one short conversation with Mr. Nader will show that he is well versed in all these subjects; a modern incarnation of the Renaissance polymath. Building off of his broad knowledge base, Mr. Nader not only teaches one how to play an instrument, he also teaches one how to cultivate oneself in Music and the culture from which it originates.

With a passion for Music and a yearn to pass on higher culture to the avid learner, Mr. Nader is the best instructor for all those who wish to learn Music along with its connection to the history, society, and culture from which it springs.

About Cheyenne
I have played the violin for 15 years, starting from when I was in elementary school. I participated in the orchestras for middle and high school. In these orchestras, we participated in many competitions and festivals. When I was in college, I joined a community orchestra called the East County Youth Symphony. This is where I honed in on my skills and progressed towards a intermediate level. I received harder literature to read and played with some amazing musicians in concerts. Because of this orchestra, I was able to participate in a musical for Young Actors Theater. I played the violin for the play Les Miserables. After this, I joined the Greater San Diego Orchestra which allowed me to perform with solo artists and participate in film festivals. I had the opportunity to play for another musical for Young Actors Theater, this time Bea
uty and the Beast. Currently, I am a member of a mariachi group for the City Heights Music School. This group consists of musicians of various age and skill levels. We play in festivals and performances around the San Diego area.
