I'm a casual, easy-going, caring person, and I enjoy establishing a unique working relationship with each student.
I have been teaching flute for about twenty years.
In teaching I employ a personal, individual, flexible approach, to give my students each what benefits him/her the most. I emphasize proper technique, beauty of tone, musical interpretation, and enjoyment. Music theory is intertwined with the instruction. And we play lots of duets!
I also play the piano, thus sometimes accompany my flute students.

About Diane

I have been playing the flute since fifth grade, a long time! I have taught flute privately for about twenty years. My second degree is an AA in Music from Grossmont College, near San Diego, CA. As a flutist I have been a member of both the La Jolla Civic Orchestra and the Grossmont Symphony Orch

Rebecca has been an amazing teacher for our son! He began lessons 2 years ago (when he was 6) and really enjoys it. She is very professional, kind, and committed. Our son has done so well that we are now adding our daughter (she is almost 6). I can't say enough good things about Ms. Rebecca!!!!

Very friendly! Not great for adult learners past a basic level. Apartment was sometimes not very clean and after correspondence with her indicating what I wanted to start lessons it became clear that she did not read/remember my email and was unprepared.

Private Flute Teacher

I've been teaching the flute for 10 years and I am comfortable working with all age groups and ability levels.

Several of my students have participated in San Diego Honor Band as well as San Diego Youth Symphony. Preparation is the key to success, and I specialize in coaching students for auditions.

I also focus on duets and tone studies to help you unlock the beautiful sound of this instrument.

Music theory is an integral part of each lesson (as well as some basic piano concepts which can be very useful to woodwind players). Jazz conception and improvisation is also a specialty!

About Ian

I've been teaching woodwinds (saxophone, flute, and clarinet) for the past 15 years and enjoy the one-on-one interaction with students of all ages. Music is one of the last professions that is truly learned through apprenticeship. Having a good private teacher is absolutely essential to your growth

Ian is a great teacher. Very encouraging, skilled and helpful. I learned a lot in an hour and I think I have already improved. Can’t wait to practice what he taught me. And looking forward to next week.

I am a beginning Tenor Sax student and a senior citizen. I have played other instruments years ago, but never a woodwind instrument. Ian has been a marvelous instructor for me. Although I had never picked up a sax until December 2014, he already has taught me how to play several simple tunes and a number of scales. His patience and sensitivity to the appropriate pace is impecable. He also keeps me informed of other activities - concerts, recordings, community events to reinforce my interest. I would recommend Ian as a music teacher to anyone without reservation or hesitation.

I teach flutists of every age and level. In the beginning I like to ask each student what their goal is so that we can work towards that, whether it is to become first chair in band, make All-State or youth orchestra, play for Solo & Ensemble, perform with their church, or to just have fun and learn a new skill. In my lessons, I use positive reinforcement and encourage regular practice.

For beginners, I usually recommend doing a 30 minute lesson once per week and then increasing the lesson time and/or frequency as they become a stronger player. I use the Rubank Method for Flute as well as Pares Scales for beginning students. Once they have become more advanced I assign more challenging etude and scale books. When the student has a grasp of the instrument, I present solo repertoire and orchestral excerpts tailored for each level. I try to keep each student's goals, ability, age, and interests in mind when choosing music to keep the lessons engaging and fun!

Ms. Kelly is the best teacher ever! She is so kind, fun, and understanding. I am a busy sophomore in high school with a lot to do, but she always has something fun for me to learn/ play. I like to play more for enjoyment (although she did help me make it to my high school's Symphonic Band) , and I like that Ms. Kelly asks me to my best, but doesn't put pressure on me on things I don't want to do. I'm so happy to have such a nice and talented teacher. She is also super-responsible with sending me lesson notes, as well as keeping up with my schedule. Also, she has a very nice personal relationship to me as a person, not just as a student.

I am a passionate musician and educator. I have worked for many years as a private flute instructor on both the modern and baroque flute, gaining experience teaching many age and skill levels. Lessons are tailored to the individual needs and goals of the student, with an emphasis on developing tone, technique, and breathing skills. Students will also be encouraged to think about the music that they play. As a musician, I developed an interest in the field of Historical Performance over the course of my undergraduate degree. In this field, one not only studies the music of past periods, but studies its relevance to the social, political, and cultural circumstances of its time. I believe this puts me in a unique position as a music educator, as I understand the importance of teaching students to connect musical works to their historical contexts. This is a skill that will provide them with a richer understanding of all types of music, including both classical and popular, and give them ...

"My 7 year-old son began learning recorder with Leasia as a complete beginner. He is taking lessons with Lesia as a music teacher for the past 9 months. She is patient and very friendly. Lesia taught him many things so far, such as how to read notes, all the fundamental techniques of recorder playing including correct posture, hand position, fingering and breathing. Also, my son learned how to play simple classic melodies like "Mary had a little lamb”, “Old Old McDonald had a farm”, “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” and etc. We are gradually transitioning from recorder to flute now. My son looks forward to Lesia’s lessons, and is enjoying music. I recommend Lesia to everyone and anyone interested in learning to play recorder and flute."
