Piano is a great way to experience music. It is a great way for kids to learn to express thenselves while creating. I encourage the skills of learning music to be adapted for all of children’s activities and for them to grow with an ability to use music to expand creativity.

Teaching is my passion. When you study with me, you will learn exactly what you need to help you along your musical quest. I keep my lessons fun and interactive so you'll have clear instructions on how to accomplish your goals.

I began classical piano instruction in 1960 and took private lessons for ten years before branching out into all the other styles of music. I have taught, recorded and performed professionally since 1978, and will show you proper hand and finger technique, music theory, how to read notation and chord charts/symbols, and equally as important teach you how to play by ear. I teach all ages, all styles and all levels of piano, and will teach you how to have fun with it all along the way!

Twenty eight years of experience working with students of all levels and ages has shaped me into the teacher I am today. Although I do tailor my sessions to suit the individual student, here are some expectations you can have of me.
Beginning students up to age 11 typically begin with the Bastien method. This curriculum is great at introducing interval recognition. I supplement this with fun pieces from Alfred, where students can strengthen sight reading skills. Flashcards are also used as reinforcement.
Older kids and adults will begin with Alfred's adult course and progress quickly into independent playing.

For all ages - After the student has reached a level of more independent playing, the student/parent will help select the direction in which we progress. Classical music, composition, and popular music are just a few of the possibilities!

I have been teaching piano for over 40 years, full-time for the past 15. Besides the actual repertoire, technique and theory are always included in my lessons because they are essential. Sight reading and ear training are also included in some lessons.

I stress accuracy in playing and attention to details! I also teach my students HOW to practice. Slow, accurate practice is the answer. Practicing takes patience!
