My lessons are very student driven and revolve around developing students innate music abilities to help them connect and experience success as well as enriching their lives with music. In my lessons students will develop music appreciation skills by listening to music, understanding basic music theory concepts, growing a knowledge of historical awareness in music all alongside learning the instrument of their chosen preference. The pace set for the sessions is rather relaxed and is highly dependent on the student but, students are guided throughout the sessions to eventually achieve their goals. My main teaching approach is: Let me use my skills and knowledge to help figure out what works best for you!

Introduction to the classical guitar with notation and tablature study to support the learning of the instrument.

About Paul
Hi! My name is Paul and I'd love to share the joy of playing the guitar with you! I have been a professional musician and teacher for over 30 years. I know much about playing the guitar and being an artist. I am passionate about music, which is why lessons with me are so fun. I know how to customize a program for the motivated student that will bring out the potential of the student at all levels. I will give the student a complete and practical program for advancement and help he or she discover their own talents at a pace that works for them. I even on occasion will conduct blues jams and other challenges such as recording and how to do a You Tube video production that will give the student a chance to use their developing skills by themselves and with others. Here is feedback from one of the parents of a student of mine:

"Alex progressed much further with guitar than he did with piano and he actually got to the point where he enjoyed playing on his own. That was a great accomplishment and very impressive to me...you helped instill some discipline and over the course of your instruction, Alex learned a lot. You were always positive with him, even when that was difficult, and I admired that and still appreciate it. I always looked forward on Sunday mornings to hearing the material the two of you were working on and I know he enjoyed his lesson with you."

*** Lesson Details ***
As a teacher, one of my biggest goals is to keep my students motivated and get them enthused about their music and committed to daily practice. I will strive to inspire my students, and ensure that all the while, they are having the time of their life! Practice and commitment are key. Students' curricula vary according to the student's goals and strengths and weaknesses. All students will learn how to play in tune and in time, know their fundamentals, work with music theory and learn how to use written materials. (And they will have fun learning!) More advanced students can learn about blues and jazz improvisation, slide guitar and also participate in blues jams with other students, record, and You Tube video production.

*** Studio Equipment ***
All kinds of guitar and bass guitar equipment and portable hard disc recording equipment for student demo recordings.

*** Travel Equipment ***
Students need a well functioning guitar, music stand, guitar tuner and metronome. Students will also need a notebook to organize written lessons I will hand out.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in blues and jazz mostly, but also have vast knowledge of rock music from it's blues roots to the more modern styles. I also can play in country style, and I play blues slide guitar.

Great Teacher

I played a little guitar throughout my life but was lacking an understanding of how the instrument works. I found myself strumming a few cords here and there but never with focus or improvement. After only three lessons with Paul, I'm now jamming to rock and the blues!Paul was quickly able to access my level of playing and I'm now understanding how the fretboard works and most importantly having lots of fun during lessons and practice. He teaches with passion and doesn't simply open a book but rather instills his lifelong experience and philosophy into lessons. Many can teach the mechanics of guitar but with Paul, you'll also understand the soul.

Paul Rocks !!

I just had my 2nd lesson with Paul and felt inspired to write a review. I have wanted to learn guitar for many, many years now. In the past, I have always gotten frustrated -or bored- and gave up before I ever even learned a chord. Our 1st lesson, Paul started me with some very basic mechanics. It was just the right amount of information to keep me interested and challenged but not so much that I was overwhelmed the 1st week. From just 15 -30 minutes a day of practicing, I have already gained some flexibility in my fingers and am beginning to have a "feel" for the instrument. I have seen more improvement and learned more from Paul and the exercises he has given me in just 2 lessons than I have collectively ever learned from any other teacher in the past or any book or online tutorial. His knowledge of the instrument, as well as music theory, is vast and he knows how to break it down into digestible bits for maximum benefit to the student. So I am not only learning to play guitar, I am also being introduced to music theory in a very easy to understand manner. He is very patient and creates a safe and supportive environment in which to learn comfortably. I am SO glad I found him!!! His way of teaching really works or me ~ I feel hopeful, inspired and motivated for the first time ever in attempting to learn this instrument. Thank you Paul and Thank You Take Lessons !!

I have a strong understanding of a strict, classical education, but never want the instrument to diminish the joy of music. I will not only teach a strong foundation of guitar, but will set you up to be able to be comfortable enough to perform and share your love of the craft with others.

Outside of just teaching the instrument, I can also teach how to approach studio situations, and getting the most out of the guitar tonally for whatever a song may need.

Overall I am just more than happy to share my love and passion of the instrument to others.

Brian has a degree in Classical Guitar Performance from California State University at Los Angeles and has been teaching classical guitar to students of all ages in the Los Angeles area for more than 20 years. Brian's special talent as a teacher of this challenging instrument is a unique ability that combines patience with enthusiasm and a deep appreciation of the genre to help his students learn, improve and achieve mastery of technique and develop their understanding of the repertoire. Students of all ages are welcome!

Below see Brian's teaching philosophy in his own words:

MY APPROACH:
I focus on four areas that I think are essential to being a good music teacher:

* the uniqueness of each student;
* the fact that enjoyment (fun!) maximizes learning;
* the importance of proper technique and an understanding of music theory to build self-confidence;
* the development of musicianship through performance.

About Brian
Brian discovered his talent and passion for teaching while still in college, and has been teaching guitar and piano in Southern California for over 20 years. Gifted at teaching students of all ages and abilities, he combines patience, creativity, imagination and boundless enthusiasm with solid professional training and experience. Brian also has over 10 years experience teaching piano and guitar to blind and autistic students.

A lifelong musician, Brian received his first musical training at the age of 4 and 5 years when his actor/singer Dad and musically talented Grandma taught him to sing and play the mandolin. He began piano lessons at age 5, and formal guitar instruction at the age of 10 years.

By the time he was a 14-year-old high school student, Brian was performing as lead guitarist in rock bands around Southern California
, developing mastery of rock guitar and blues performance and improvisation. Brian went on to complete a Bachelor's Degree in Classical Guitar Performance from California State University, Los Angeles.

Passionate about all kinds of music, Brian's studies include choral music and conducting, Gregorian chant (at the Monastery of St. Pierre de Solesmes, France), and Master Classes with Andrés Segovia and Christopher Parkening. In 1984, he participated as a member of the Honor Choir for the ceremonies of the Olympic Games in Los Angeles, which included recording of original music by Philip Glass for the Olympic Games under the direction of David L. Wolper and Mr. Glass.

As a jazz guitarist, Brian continues to grow musically in association with his colleagues of the Naomi Jazz Group, and other close musical friends who include students of the late, great Ted Greene.

MY APPROACH:
I focus on four areas that I think are essential to being a good music teacher:

• the uniqueness of each student;
• the fact that enjoyment (fun!) maximizes learning;
• the importance of proper technique and an understanding of music theory to build self-confidence;
• the development of musicianship through performance.

EACH STUDENT IS UNIQUE:
My first interest with each new student is to discover how he or she learns, and then to apply appropriate teaching techniques to maximize their potential. I gear my lesson plans to the individual and strive to optimize the learning potential of the student.

ENJOYMENT MAXIMIZES LEARNING:
In a lesson with me you can expect to never be bored, to laugh a lot, learn a lot, be positively engaged emotionally and challenged intellectually. I believe that learning is maximized when the student is enjoying the experience, and is faced with challenges appropriate to their skill level. I aim to make learning music fun, choosing musical selections to learn in the style and genre that relate to the student's interests and aspiration.

TECHNIQUE & UNDERSTANDING OF MUSIC THEORY TO BUILD SELF-CONFIDENCE:
When my students perform in concerts, recitals, juries, auditions, recording sessions or simply for friends and family, they have self-confidence because they know precisely the "how" and "why" of everything required to perform well. My goal with students is to build a solid foundation in instrumental technique and thorough understanding of Music Theory at their appropriate level.

PERFORMANCE:
On a monthly basis, all my students practice performing pieces they are working on during the lesson time, with family/friends as an audience if desired and appropriate, and/or using digital recording to help the student develop a critical ear for their own playing.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Music stands, guitar/s and guitar stands, Dynarelle cushion, footrests, Korg 88 fully--weighted digital keyboard, Zoom H4 digital recorder.

As well, I have guitars and equipment both for teaching and performance of various styles, as below. Students will have the opportunity to learn about, play and become familiar with any of these instruments/equipment according to their interests and skill levels.

GUITARS:

CLASSICAL: Ramirez Model 1A Classical (professional concert level instrument)
Cordoba (teaching/practice instrument)
Hohner Acoustic (electric)

ROCK: Fender Stratocaster (pre-CBS)
Shechter Omen6
Shechter Elite Series C1

FOLK: Martin (steel string)
Dobro

JAZZ: Oscar Schmidt by Washburn (hollow body electric)
Gibson SG (electric)

OTHER EQUIPMENT:

AMPS: Fender Twin reverb
Pevey practice amp
Rock amp

Boss GT8 Effects Pedal

*** Travel Equipment ***
Guitar stands, guitar/s, Zoom H4 digital recorder. Generally I do not transport my Korg 88 keyboard to the student's home for lessons, but I can if necessary. However, I do require that piano students have their own piano/keyboard or at least reliable access to one for practice between lessons.

Guitar students should also have their own guitar. I can advise on appropriate instruments and can help students find a suitable guitar for their learning level and price range.

I have approximately taken ten or twelve lessons. I started from scratch, and Brian's input and guidance has helped me to move along pretty fast in my learning. My ear is becoming more selective. My fingers are more and more flexible. My idea of learning piano was to do so, in order to play for me and maybe one or two more people. I've learned with Brian that even if that is the case, I must still handle myself, as if I am going to be part of a band. This is teaching me the importance of counting and keeping the rhythm for me and for others. It basically helps me to have a structure. Thank you Brian

I teach the fundamentals of music for anyone that wants to play classical guitar.

Most music for classical guitar is written in standard notation (sheet music) so reading notes and technique are the focus for my classical lessons.

I have a background in playing from all eras (Romantic, Baroque, Classical, etc.) of music so there is a wide variety of music I can suggest that will be fun for any student.

About Henry
I am a graduate of UC Irvine with a bachelors of music in guitar performance. I have over 7 years of experience of successfully teaching guitar and music theory to a wide range of students (from hobbyists to professional musicians).I've played in several rock bands as a lead guitarist, performed in classical guitar ensembles, and perform regularly for my church's Sunday choir. My philosophy of music is that everyone is musical. Everyone is able to play music given the right guidance, attention, and encouragement. So please let me share these things with you to bring you the gift of music! =)

*** Lesson Details ***
I am a laid back teacher that focuses on making lesson constructive and fun! The lesson material is focused on practical usage that makes for easy readiness to play.I cater my teaching style to each student to how they learn
best and to maximize their potential for growth. My main goal is helping students find and achieve their own goals, while giving them the tools they need to continue growing as a musician. I encourage my students to choose what they want to play and develop their own style at the same time. All the while teaching proper technique to ensure great control for thoughtful and beautiful sounding play.The main styles I teach are:-Classical-Acoustic/Folk -Rock-Church/Worship Music-Jazz/Blues

*** Travel Equipment ***
A guitar and tuner is required for each student.I provide all lesson materials unless it is a student learning classical guitar. In which case the student would need to purchase the book "Solo Guitar Playing 1" by Frederick NoadIf a student wants online lessons, then a student requires the following:-microphone-webcam-stable internet connectionIf a student has a macbook or a laptop that has equipment on it, it should work as well.

For our wedding, my husband and I decided to do a surprise performance, a mash-up. Both my husband and I had tried to casually teach ourselves guitar/ukulele but could only do so much with wedding planning getting more demanding. We needed someone who could teach us the basics but also how to perform. Henry is a great teacher that really customizes your learning experience. My husband took guitar lessons and I took ukulele lessons. He helped us arrange our mash-up song, coached us on our performance, and even signed us up for an open-mic to let us experience what it's like to play in front of a big audience. I'm glad to say that we nailed our surprise performance at our wedding, and got tons of compliments! Although the end goal was to perform, I learned a lot of music theory and techniques that I can apply to other songs that I want to play in the future.

I knew absolutely nothing about how to play or much less read music, before working with Henry. Over the course of two months, for one hour per week, he taught me enough to be able to read basic lines and practice songs on my own, on a classical guitar. He is very reliable, punctual, and a patient teacher. He arranged to have a perfect location that was private, quiet, and convenient. I strongly recommend learning from him.

I have three goals for each individual student. First, is for the student to understand and learn the fundamentals of the basic flamenco forms and techniques. Second, is to take what he or she has learned and apply it (e.g., composing his or her own falsettas and/or accompanying baile and cante). Finally, I want each student to share what he or she has learned with others--pass it on!

About Ben
EDUCATION

I graduated from California State University, Fullerton (CSUF) with a B.A. in Public Administration (what does that have to do with the Flamenco guitar?); prior to that degree, I received an A.A. in Political Science (again, what does that have to do with Flamenco guitar?). Currently I am in the process of completing my M.P.A. at CSUF (again…?). The answer to the aforementioned question is that, I enjoy politics and government work—it’s my profession. Nonetheless, I enjoy Flamenco most of all, and I want you to enjoy it too! ¡Vamonos!

EXPERIENCE

The guitar is a wonderful instrument, which I began playing at the age of six. I began my studies with the classical guitar for the first 15 years of playing; and for these past 15 years I have studied the flamenco guitar—playing various concerts, events, and giving professional
instruction.

My experience as a guitarist in Southern California has led me to explore different genres of music, playing for various musical groups ranging from surf rock, concert band, and jazz. As a co-founding member of the band, Ballistico, we opened up for acts such as Dick Dale and the Del Tones, the Grandmothers of Invention (featuring members of Frank Zappa’s original band, “Mothers of Invention”), Avenged Sevenfold, and many others.

EXPERTISE

Having received first hand instruction from the some of the most sough-after professional Flamenco guitarists living and working in Spain (and touring internationally), I offer each of my students an unrivaled degree of authenticity in technique, tone, and style.

LEARNING MATERIALS

Each lesson includes tablature and audio recordings of the material that we will have gone over together. It is completely normal that only a day or two after a lesson—or even a few hours afterwards—the mind can (and will) quickly forget the material. Don’t worry! I’ve got you covered. By having the accompanying written and audio material with you after each lesson, you will be well-prepared for a successful next lesson!

I recently graduated UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music with a BA in Music History. My concentration is theory and education.

I will travel anywhere in the LA region to teach students of all ages. Music is my passion and I live to share it with others.
Nothing brings me greater joy than connecting with someone on a musical level and seeing the light bulb, the "AHA!" moment when they get it, especially children, or seeing someone so impressed by their OWN capabilities because of what I taught them.

My past students claim my teaching to be the best they've ever had. Throughout high school and college, classmates would seek help from me claiming that my approach was easier to understand than that of the teacher or professor.

I have a unique way of tailoring my teaching style to the different ways in which people learn, including and especially kids.

My unique, outgoing, lighthearted, humorous, and warm personality qualify me appropriately for teaching music.

About Lee
My passion for music existed as long as I can remember. When I was maybe three, my dad showed my a live video of a Dan Fogelberg concert. I would play it over and over again and mimic the players, using toy rifles as guitars and rigging up mic stands out of Tinker Toys (Yes, I'm old enough to remember Tinker Toys).

At 12 my dad bought me my first guitar and I caught on at a rate that was perceivably rapid. The words "natural" and "prodigy" were used, though I find them quite frivolous. By 14 I was playing in church worship bands and in high school I was playing in bands of my own.

There's a phrase, "Those that can't do teach." I cannot disagree more. Not everyone can teach. This requires a special sense, an ability to intuit the type of environment and experience which best suits the learner, and the ability to connect. My versatile
personality and perceptive range of approaches more than qualifies me. Given the opportunity, I will show you or your child the uniquely memorable experience that is taking guitar lessons from me.

My teaching style is very in depth, but laid back. I base my lessons off the students' specific needs and abilities rather than a set curriculum. My lessons are also different in that they prepare you for all styles of music rather than one or two genres. Overall you will learn at an exponential rate. I go into details and principles that are truly the fundamentals of learning music for any instrument. But I will most importantly, do my absolute best to make learning music an easy and stress-free process.

About Jared
A guitarist versed in many styles, constantly performing in rock, jazz, classical, and electronic genres with fluidity. Jared has performed with George & Alfred Ortiz, Al Di Mieola, Gordon Goodwin, Arturo Sandoval, Jay Mason, George Stone, Stan Mark, Christine Guter and Chad Wackerman. He has performed at festivals in Seattle, Reno, Los Angeles and Eugene and Jacksonville, Oregon. He has recieved a Bachelor’s in Music Performance with emphasis in Jazz Studies and has studied with Sol Kreuger, Lionel Nightengale and Mike Higgins.

Studying piano and guitar at a young age, Jared has also played numerous piano recitals and recorded various piano parts and compositions for studios/clients throughout LA. As well as guitar and piano, he teaches and performs mandolin, ukulele, banjo, and bass. He also has writing credits for bands throughout the

A little about me: I wanted to learn how to play the guitar when I was 12 because my dad plays guitar, and, well... every 12 year old wants to be like their dad. In high school, I played in church and fronted a hardcore band. I studied Classical Guitar at Moorpark College and went on to receive a Bachelor's in Jazz Studies from CSUN in 2016. From 2012 - 2015 I taught at Dave Janssen's Music School in
Simi Valley Ca where at one point I had 40 individual students and directed 3 bands. I have recorded guitar on film scores, debuted original music at historic jazz venues, and toured to Seattle and back with my most recent alternative rock project, First Fire. But one thing remains consistent:

I LOVE TEACHING.

I love watching my students grow. I love giving to them what I have been given. I love discussing all the lessons music has to teach us about life and friendship and discipline. It brings me so much joy to introduce my students to this treasure trove, and see what they discover for themselves.
