About Matthew J
I currently work as a freelance music producer as well as a guitar/bass teacher and as a music software teacher.
I have been playing guitar for 18 years and teaching guitar and bass for 9 years. I have worked as a private and group guitar instructor at several music education establishments in the Chicago, Los Angeles and in Eugene, Oregon as well. I have also worked as a band coach for youth groups, where I taught them cover songs, helped them write their own songs and prepared them for live performances.
I studied at Columbia College Chicago majoring in Classical Guitar, Latin Music and Music Theory.
I started taking private guitar lessons as a teenager for several years and played in my high school jazz band along with original rock bands. While in high school, I was able to study with popular Chicago rock virtuoso guitarist Kev
in M. Buck, where I first learned music theory and was inspired to be more studious with the guitar.

I have performed in rock/modern bands for 12 years as an electric guitarist and also for 4 years as a solo acoustic guitarist mixing Bossa Nova, Classical Guitar and original compositions into my performance repertoire.

*** Lesson Details ***
For Music Software Lessons - Logic Pro X , Ableton Live, Garageband, Pro Tools and Reason-

Topics I like to cover - capturing correct recording levels.....editing, adding effects/basic mixing, automation .....creating drum grooves with loops and midi drums..........songwriting and music theory.........Live capabilities using Ableton (for backing tracks and live performance)........Quick commands to easily navigate through software.....

For instrument lessons-
I'm a patient teacher that's passionate about guitar and helping students reach their musical goals whether they are casual players or serious musicians. For beginners, I use Hal Leonard instructional guitar books along with paper handouts and sheet music. I believe it's important for everyone to learn the fundamentals of music to create a strong base of skills in order to continue playing and learning music throughout one's life. For more experienced players, I like to teach various modern rock/pop songs, classical guitar songs, picking patterns, finger picking patters, improvisation, scales and music theory. I teach nylon string acoustic, steel string acoustic guitar and electric guitar and bass
I believe the most basic goal for a guitar student is to be able to play a song in it's entirety, whether it's by themselves or with other musicians/music students. I believe that some of the most important music skills are learned while actually playing with other musicians. It is crucial when learning an instrument to be able to play in 'real time'; playing music with a steady sense of rhythm.

*** Specialties ***
I teach Classical Guitar, Brazilian Jazz, bass guitar, rock, pop, blues, funk and folk guitar using method books, sheet music and guitar tablature.

Everyone has creative and musical abilities within, and it is the responsibility of the private instructor to bring those out in each student. For some people, learning an instrument comes very easily, and for others it is more of a challenge. Everyone learns differently, which is why private musical instruction is so crucial, no matter what the age of the student. A private instructor can customize learning opportunities so that the student can learn at his or her own pace, allowing the instructor to focus on each student's individual interests and passions. A private instructor can also provide customizedl feedback so that the student can improve upon weaker areas of playing and build upon strengths.

Becoming a musician invites a lifetime of learning into one’s life. For children, it allows them to participate in musical groups and o
rganizations where they learn to work toward common goals. It reinforces mathematical concepts when we talk about rhythm. It invites learning about history when we discuss famous composers, and physics when the way sound is produced is demonstrated. For adults, it keeps their minds active and always learning. No one is too old to learn to play an instrument! Adults learn quickly, and can have great progress in a relatively short amount of time.

About Osvaldo G.

About Osvaldo
I've been playing clarinet for 16 years and have not stopped ever since. Music lessons were first introduced to me at the age of 8 by my godfather. He taught me basic music theory with the piano and trumpet. I gave up the trumpet at age 12 and switched on to the clarinet (played it in a community band named "Banda Juvenil Solaga, USA, Oaxaca").

By the time I made it to the university (CSULA), I began getting lessons from Helen G. Castro (She has and still is one of the best mentors I've ever gotten). I've performed 5 years with the Cal State LA Wind Ensemble under the conducting of Dr. Emily Moss (Another great mentor. She's one of the reasons why I decided to pursue a career in music education).

I graduated in 2015, BM in the field of Music Education. Am still planning to pursue a Masters in Music Performance. But first, I still
have to save up.

I'm currently teaching in the Saturday Conservatory of Music and the New Life Vision Church. I'm private teaching as well; giving clarinet, saxophone, and oboe lessons.
