I am a firm believer in the importance of reading for content and comprehension, so that is the approach I take when tutoring this subject. I teach my students how to look for key words, key sentences, order and flow of paragraphs and how to scan for speed. All of this is done without sacrificing the most important element: comprehension of content. I provide passages for the students to read, followed by a series of questions which tests their understanding and retention of the material. Gradually, I increase the difficulty or complexity of the passages to raise the level of proficiency for the student.

About Patricia
As a child I watched from the doorway as my older sister took her piano lessons. From that experience I taught myself to play the piano. My formal training came in college where I received my BA in Applied Music in piano and voice. I studied classical music and opera from a visiting professor from Peabody Conservatory, Baltimore MD. I graduated with honors and gave my Town Hall performance in the Spring of my Senior year. I had a passionate desire to be involved in music, to hear it and to perform it. I spent several years singing with the San Diego Opera Company, performing lead roles in Musical Theater and soloing in concerts from Monterrey to San Diego, CA. While still a student in college, I taught piano to children from the local community, so I have accumulated decades of teaching experience. Nothing brings me greater pleasure than
to see individuals "blossom" into their creative selves. Whether it is for a student's own enjoyment, audition preparation, recital performance or ongoing piano or voice development, I am committed to engaging you in an experience of learning and fun. It may be the biggest thrill of your lifetime!

*** Lesson Details ***
I love to have fun. For me, learning is a great source of fun. My goal is to make the process of your learning music fun while effective. I do have high standards for participation. I do not ask anything of you that I haven't done myself. I know, from many years of experience in performing and teaching, what it takes to make progress in a learning curve, Are you excited? Are you dedicated? Are you willing to jump in and get busy? I will give you the foundation of theory and technique to support your performance. I will expand your understanding and appreciation for music in its many styles and formats. No every other week or schedule as you go lessons, please.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Living room - Steinway piano, cathedral ceilings ... good acoustics.

*** Travel Equipment ***
Must have piano or quality keyboard. I definitely prefer piano.

*** Specialties ***
I was trained classically in both piano and voice, but spent many years in musical theater and singing in supper clubs, as well. I am capable of teaching most styles of piano and voice except rock and rap.

i recently came out of an audition and I sang my musical pieces better than I've ever done them before! The auditioner sat me down at the end and said he loves my voice. He said, based on how much he liked my pieces and how well I did that he would like to extend an early invitation for callbacks for the program! I really have Patricia to thank for that. She has helped me improve my voice by leaps and bounds in the time that i have been working with her and its amazing to get such immediate and rewarding results. I CAN NOT THANK PATRICIA ENOUGH! SHE COULD NOT HAVE PREPARED ME ANY BETTER AND IM SO GRATEFUL THAT I GET TO WORK WITH HER!!

With a BA in Acting from London's Central School of Speech and Drama, Crystal has learned to use the nuts and bolts of technique to support freedom in artistic choice. With a focus on stage performance, she works with students to find their own unique approach to acting.

About Crystal
Crystal brings a lifetime’s experience of professional musicianship to each of her lessons. Born into a family of musicians, she sang her first solo at age 2. She also benefits her students with an extraordinarily diverse musical background, having worked as a vocalist in gospel, country, musical theater, jazz, classical, rock, pop and soul styles. Her performing career has taken her from L.A. church meetings to London’s Houses of Parliament.

Crystal hails originally from Los Angeles, CA - where her musical parents gave her a head start by including her in the family business the moment she was able to contribute. She went on to study classical voice, piano and music theory at The Boston Conservatory of Music. After concluding her studies in London, she returned home and began working regularly as a theater performer, appearing in twen
ty world premiers and re-imagined classics. Most notably she played the lead role of Keely Smith in the big band jazz musical “Louis and Keely: Live At The Sahara” during its eight-month run at Westwood’s Geffen Playhouse. She also formed her own rock band, The Honeysuckle Jones Revival, with whom she performed her own songs all over Los Angeles. And she began working as a studio session vocalist, providing demo vocals for other songwriters, as well as arranging and performing back-up vocals for original artists, including Laura Roppe (currently in the Top Ten on Billboard’s Uncharted list of emerging artists.) Crystal played the lead role of Brooke in the new operatic rock musical “The Burning Opera LA” during its Los Angeles run in 2011 as well as providing ensemble vocals and playing piano and bass. She also performs holiday tunes from the Golden Age of American songwriting with musical quartet The Sleigh Belles.

Crystal believes that music is serious business but that it should be fun. She encourages her students to play music they love, as well as expanding their musical knowledge. She is a firm believer in basics first and emphasizes theory and technique as the tools to support creativity and provide freedom, power and control. She believes effort beats talent every time and the student who practices consistently will see results, whatever their level of ability. Most of all, she believes we were all born to make music.

*** Lesson Details ***
Lesson structure varies depending on the student's instrument, age, level of experience and musical style. However, all lessons focus on:

Technique
Music theory
Performance style

After 3 or 6 months of consistent lesson attendance and practice, students will have a clear understanding of how their instrument works and how to care for it. They will be able to read basic music notation. They will be working toward clearly defined musical goals and they will have at least three performance pieces learned.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Loft Space: full size electric piano with weighted keys, small digital recorder, microphone, Garage Band, parents can sit in on lessons

*** Travel Equipment ***
I bring a small keyboard for vocal students with no piano, karaoke tracks and a digital recorder. I also bring a selection of games. Students are expected to purchase all necessary books and sheet music.

Amazing singng instructor

Crystal has increased my daughter’s self-esteem and expressiveness through song. My daughter is now writing her own poetry and song lyrics, as well as being able to combat her once shyness quality. She loves to perform in front of others now and has a confidence level that amazes me, especially now that she is going into those “teen” years. I think a lot of thanks needs to go to Crystal, for assisting my daughter in reaching her current creative level!

About Briana
Briana teaches voice to all ages and all levels. She incorporates breathing exercises, vocal warm-ups, and ear training, into all lessons, as well as performance practice of a song from any genre of the student's choosing. Once the student masters the song, he or she also has the unique opportunity to record the song in Briana's home studio. Briana also holds a masters degree in English literature and has been teaching English for over 15 years. She is qualified to teach the following: English as a second language, creative writing, English literature, advanced essay writing, composition, and a wide array of others. Supportive, fun, and SO knowledgeable

I started taking singing lessons because I wanted to pick up another hobby, and Briana has helped me do just that. She is incredibly knowledgeable, helpful, and supportive regardless of what your goals are. She makes the technical side of signing fun and enjoyable, something other teachers I have worked with have been unsuccessful at. Briana provides a positive and warm space to let loose in, and most importantly has reminded me that I don't always have to take myself so seriously. I highly recommend Briana to anyone who is looking for a teacher they can create a connection with, regardless of skill level because she can handle it all!

I have been teaching and coaching actors for 20 years. My students work professionally on stage, TV and film. Within the first few lessons, you will understand how to create a character. Soon, you will have the skills to book a role. I specialize in method acting, but draw upon my experience at The Second City (improvisation) in Chicago and other training I have had. I love working with students of all ages and experience levels; I can't wait to meet you!

About Jeremy
Are you working on a part for a play or film and need assistance? If you are new to acting, I can teach you what it takes to be an actor and how to bring a character to life. Do you need to prepare for an audition? Do you want to learn about the business of acting? Script analysis? I can help.

I can help with your audition for performing arts high schools. My students have gotten into the schools of their choice.

If you have training or are a working actor, I can help take you to the next level.

I am a working actor, published playwright and award winning filmmaker. I graduated from the Lee Strasberg Theater Institute at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts where I majored in drama. I taught Method Acting, Acting for Camera, Improvisation as well as other classes at The Lee Strasberg Theater Institute in New York. My
students, both at the Institute and from private coaching, have appeared in independent stage and film productions, TV shows, commercials and Hollywood films.

Acting is the art of bringing a character to life. I use the Lee Strasberg Method, my original exercises and a fun and serious demeanor to help actors express themselves as artists and gain the confidence and skills they need in order to book acting jobs.

My book, "The Young Actor's Handbook", is published by Applause Theatre and Cinema Books. "The Young Actor's Handbook" ignites the beginning actor's creative soul with acting exercises, acting theory, writing exercises and insight into what it means to be an actor. This is a pragmatic manual that guides and informs the young actor, beginning actor, novice acting teacher or anyone who wants to understand acting.

"Jeremy Kruse's book, "The Young Actor’s Handbook", leads the young actor on the correct path. Jeremy is an experienced acting teacher who has broken down acting in an academic way while nurturing the soul of the actor. He understands the emotional aspects of good acting. I commend Jeremy and believe he has accomplished quite a feat in writing "The Young Actors Handbook." - Vincent D'Onofrio

I have been a professional actor in the film + television industry for 16 years and counting. My training is mainly based in Meisner, with a degree in Character + Script Analysis from one of the best 2-year conservatories in the nation. I have also completed a Shakespeare Intensive course at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London. I have a background in Uta Hagan's methods, Stanislavsky, Stella Adler and Lee Strasberg, so whatever your fancy, I would be able to help in a way specific to your process. I am still a working actor and have years worth of on-set experience as well and could help with any audition prep needed. I love working with actors helping them reach a greater level of understand of themselves + their processes!

About Haley
Hello! As someone who's worked professionally as an actor for over 17 years, I know first-hand how difficult it can be to find a coach you're comfortable with or who understands your particular process. No two actors are alike and what may work for one, may not work for another.

Meisner's technique was the one that has resonated deepest with me. The 2-year conservatory I graduated from taught his methods with a strong emphasis in the original precepts of Stanislavsky. However, before that I spent years studying Lee Strasberg, Uta Hagan, Boleslavsky and Michael Chekhov's methods. You could indeed say I've tried it all. I worked like a dog over a bone while studying and I know I'll never truly be done, which is also unbelievably exciting to me.

While my training is more theater-based, my experience is mainly in film + television. I
started working as a teenager and haven't stopped. My experience has also ranged from big budget movies (The Final Destination) to grittier, independent fare (Sugar Mountain). I have been the lead of every film I've done, save for one, which happened to be directed by my brilliant acting teacher, and I have worked with some of the most respected actors in the industry (Beau Bridges, Aidan Quinn, Jason Momoa, Rainn Wilson to name a few). I have had recurring guest stars on TV shows (Teen Wolf) and one episode arcs on others (The Librarians, Beauty and the Beast, Major Crimes). I also produce, write + direct my own films.

I love acting so much and I love people who are dedicated to becoming the best actors they can be. I have such a reverence for this art form, but recognize the importance of being irreverent while searching for a higher truth in a moment. I truly look forward to working + playing together to help you become a more truthful, confident actor!

I have trained extensively at Southern California's Tony Award-Winning theatre, South Coast Repertory, and most recently completed their acting intensive program this past summer. While I was involved in the industry for a bit as a teenager, I finally took the plunge and have now been pursuing it consistently since October of 2017. In this short time, I've already worked on numerous music videos and a variety of independent films, and I attribute this success to the tips and tricks I've learned along the way and the wisdom I've received from my mentors over the years. It has been dream come true to watch my goals become my reality, and I would love to share these insights and my passion with you to help you achieve your goals as an actor. About Heather
I fell in love with theatre and European history as a young girl and have spent most of my life either on stage or with my head in a book. When I started college, I struggled to decide which one I wanted to pursue in an educational environment and professionally until I realized there was nothing stopping me from doing both. I graduated from the University of California, Irvine in 2016 Cum Laude with a B.A. in European Languages and Studies with an emphasis in Early Modern Europe and a B.A. in Drama. Since graduation, I have spent most of my time working in childcare, but I recently decided to take the plunge and pursue acting professionally. Since this means I have a much more flexible schedule, I decided that I wanted to share my love of both European history and theatre here in the form of teaching.

I've been tutoring in various su
bjects since 2012 and love helping my students discover their talents, reach new levels of understanding, and find joy in learning. I am committed to not only helping my students retain and understand the material but also find and master techniques which will allow them to continue successfully without guidance in the future. I am very patient with my students and do my best to create a fun, positive, and encouraging learning environment, but I hold my students accountable and expect a good work ethic as it is a waste more of my students' time than anything else if they are not prepared or engaged. I want them to succeed and flourish, and that only works if both parties are motivated and ready to work.

My schedule tends to be very flexible, and I am happy to offer lessons at your home, at my local library, and online. As a result, lessons are scheduled to best fit the student's needs whenever possible. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or if you feel like we would be a good fit. I look forward to helping you reach your goals and flourish!

As a television and theatre actor for 14 years who became an award-winning director and screenwriter, I have a particularly well-rounded perspective on acting. My belief is that anyone can act, if given the right tools. Most importantly, it's about exploring yourself -- who you really are as a human being and having confidence in that unique individual -- that moves audiences and brings a character to life. We will also use my expertise on the other side of the camera to explore how to work with directors, as well as the writer's perspective on your character's function in the larger story. I look forward to setting your talents loose on the world!

About Zach
Hi! I'm a television and theatre actor-turned award-winning director and screenwriter. I've done theatre in New York and all over the world (including touring in "Les Misérables" and being an original cast member of "Heathers: The Musical"), and I've acted in television shows like "Switched at Birth" (ABC Family), "The Good Wife" and "How I Met Your Mother" (CBS).

I moved behind the camera in 2014, and have since directed 3 multi award-winning independent short films, as well as writing original screenplays in various stages of purchase and development for feature film production and primetime television.

I absolutely love to teach and have for many years along the way of my career. I've helped students explore their passion and hone their acting skills in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, my native Oregon, and even in South Africa.
I genuinely believe that anyone can act if given the right tools to have confidence in what they uniquely bring to the stage or the set. I look forward to sharing my all-encompassing perspective on acting with you and setting your talent loose on the world!
