About Joe

I absolutely love teaching music! After over 20 years of teaching, performing, writing, and recording in all styles/genres, it continues to be a great adventure. It is a joy to pass this on to others...especially seeing my students that never touched the instrument going on to be very proficient

Phil is very friendly and pleasant. He has a quaint in-home studio that is filled with music books, instruments and art. "I've been taking Banjo lessons with Michael for 5 months. I am an adult with absolutely no experience with any string instrument. Michael has taught me the basic roll patterns and techniques such as pull offs, hammer downs and slides and I can play several songs. I never thought that would be possible! Banjo is much harder than I imagined, but I can do it thanks to the encouragement and instruction from Michael! We are working through the book "I Can Teach Myself Banjo".....but I couldn't do it without Michael. Even my husband comments on how much better I am getting. Michael does demand excellence....I can't roll past a mistake, he always hears it and has me try again! He is super patient and we laugh alot! I look forward to my lessons every week and love to practice my new skills."

And, if YouTube trends are any indication, it looks like the banjo is making another genre shift! A pack of viral videos featuring banjo covers of hard rock classics are making the rounds and proving that banjos can shred just a …
