I just completed my first lesson with Elisa. I felt so good at the end of the lesson. As an adult learner, I am often uncomfortable with my beginner skill levels and end up feeling embarrassed and apologetic when working with a teacher (silly I know). But she did not make me feel this way at all.

She quickly assessed where I was with my playing and identified quick and easy technical practices to enhance my technique as well as took in my own personal goals. I feel super motivated to practice and look forward to my next lesson with her. I'm so glad I found her!

About Greg
I started playing guitar in the 5th grade and in middle school began playing in rock groups. At the beginning of high school, I started teaching in some of the local music stores in the area. While wanting more from my playing, I started classical guitar lessons with an Andre Segovia student, Rani Cochran, and soon started lessons from Warren Nunes, a top jazz guitarist in the Bay Area. While continuing to take lessons in both types of music, I majored in Music at the local college. There I played in the jazz band and in guitar ensembles. After receiving my A.A. degree, I took classical guitar lessons with Larry Ferrara at the Conservatory of Music in San Francisco. At this point I transferred to San Jose State University and received a B.A. in guitar performance and a B.A. in Psychology, graduating with honors. My latest performing exp
erience has been playing in the worship band at my church for the past several years. I enjoy teaching guitar and sharing what I’ve learned over the years of playing. We all never stop being students and learning new things on our instrument.

*** Lesson Details ***
Lessons are provided in a comfortable, fun environment and are private and on a weekly basis. Initially the student will complete a questionnaire before the first lesson to allow me to better understand what experiences the student has had with the guitar and with music in general. Additionally, I try to find out what groups and guitarists he or she likes. Finally, discuss what goals the student has or put another way, what he or she wants to do with the guitar. When we have completed the first lesson, I will better understand what the student’s playing level is and be able to provide a lesson plan based on that level and current experience. The lessons are tailored to each student’s capability and desire to play/practice. The lessons will be challenging but not “out of reach”. The student will feel successful and see the difference in playing within a relatively short time.

I will assess the student’s progress each week, by reviewing the previous week’s work. Based on the student’s progress, I will advance to new material or stay within the same material. The student and I will agree on how much time the student will devote to practicing each week. The student will keep a three ring notebook for adding handouts as they are given. I usually use a guitar book, to have structure, along with supplementary material that fills in the gaps. It is vital to practice on a regular basis in order to improve.
I provide teaching with patience and motivation. Being a parent of a child with ADHD (I homeschooled for one year), I incorporate learning from my parental experiences into lessons as needed. There have been several studies done that show how early music lessons have longtime benefits.

*** Studio Equipment ***
The studio lessons are taught in a music room upstairs with large windows facing the street with guitars, amps, a computer, stereo and seating. The house has 3 cats which are kept separate from lessons. Street parking and/or driveway if needed.

*** Specialties ***
I've taught rock, blues, jazz, classical, contemporary Christian, and music theory. I try to get my students to play along with CD's and listen to others playing what they want to learn. I draw material from the hundreds of books I have collected over the years.

That's why I teach.
I'm a multilingual percussionist and health and harmony seeker; I've taught French, Spanish and ESL for many years in several parts of the world. I've also studied, played and tutored traditional Ghanaan and Malinke percussion for almost 10 years and have acquired strong polyrhythmic foundation.

I am very pleased with my online lessons with Lisa. She is fluent in both French and English. Her depth of language understanding and her skill in teaching come through clearly in all sessions.. Lisa is comfortable to work with. She stays on task with the basics, which I asked for, and she is also able to move in directions which I suggest based on my current interests. Beyond all this, I sense that she is a very good person who is "present" during the sessions.l Highly recommended.

Hi, there! My name is Laura and I can't wait to meet you! I've been teaching private lessons since 2002 and have loved helping my students learn both technique and theory as I seek to motivate them to play the best that they can and to instill a love for music. Although I do not hold a degree in music, I was trained to teach by a former music instructor from the University of the Pacific. Hello potential students! I have a B.A. in instrumental music education and composition. I have taught private lessons for over 12 years. Teaching private music lessons is my primary job, so I have much experience and wisdom compared to teachers who teach "on the side." Students of all ages stay with me a long time because I am very flexible in my teaching and know how to interact with many personalities and learning styles, producing great results and progress. My specialties are piano, woodwinds, and music technology (i.e. recording and production).

Kyle is a great piano teacher! He is very patient with my 12-year old son. Just yesterday he referred to him as “fun Kyle” because he teaches him small songs on the side that he can show friends and family or are for upcoming holidays. He’s always punctual and respectful of our family and home. I’m grateful to have found him!

Kyle has given me contra bass, aka upright bass, weekly lessons from August 2015 through May 2016. I have never played a string instrument prior to this, although I do play piano and have played the flute, bagpipes, and piccolo over the years. I did not need education in reading music.

Kyle was able to take me from sounding like a lower octave version of Jack Benny (a mid-20th century comedian famous for his howlingly horrid violin playing) to a level where I know how to hold the instrument and the bow, the fingerings, bowing technique, and how to get a very respectable sound from the instrument.

He also installed the strings when I received the new instrument, found a manufacturing flaw in the bridge height that the manufacturer subsequently paid to repair, and diagnosed a resonance issue with the instrument that was corrected with a balance weight on the string below the bridge.

To my future student's, I look forward of meeting you and start teaching you how to use 10 fingers to play 88 keys on the piano. My teaching experience dates back to my college day's, as i begun teaching private lessons part time many years ago, and have been consistently teaching students the last 10 years in their homes. I have performed with many groups throughout my musical career and have had a rewarding career playing the piano. I was station overseas in Stuttgart, West Germany and had the honor of assisting 15 teachers to start a music program which was very successful. I retired with 22 years of service with the 159th National Guard Army Band with a honorable discharge. One of my favorite performances was when we play at the Palladium Hollywood in Los Angeles. My teaching style is very simple. Be creative and always involved humo
r. The student will know instantly if the instructor is eager to teach as the student is also eager to learn. For example, i would use a lot of metaphors and analogies to explain a musical concept. I would always tailor lessons to their level of skill. Nothing is more rewarding than to see one of my students at a recital and i hear their parents tell their friends,"that's my son, he learned from the best". I personally believe "teaching music" can not be taught in a classroom. One must have a love of teaching and a love of teaching that particular instrument to my students. For my beginning students, i use the the "Alfred's basic music series". For my intermediate to advance students, i start at their level of piano playing. Focusing on the type of music they want to learn.
