I teach every level and prepare students to take ACT, SAT, GRE tests. I always strive to motivate and engage my students to make the learning interesting and fun.

All my tutoring sessions include reviews of previously learned material and if possible the use of technology. I use students books but often bring extra study materials if necessary.

About Ilona
For my tutoring sessions I use skills that include goal-directedness, I teach how to organize learning in small steps and how to set them up; I always strive to motivate and engage my students to make the learning interesting and fun; I also use self-control skills to teach how to avoid distractions and I use different focusing strategies. I use positive mind set skills to teach how to use failures as a learning opportunities.

I have a Master's Degree (2012) in teaching English to speakers of other languages, and Bachelors in Music Education (2010), both from Florida Atlantic University, as well as degree in violin performance from Poland.
I studied piano in Poland for 10 years & taught both piano & violin for over 20 years. I also teach flute & cello for the past 5 years, as I studied them during my Music Education program.

I
teach music for over 24 years using the traditional and Suzuki methods. I am a fan of the Essential Elements 2000 for string instruments, and the Alfred's Piano Library for piano. Alfred's piano library can be used for any age as they also have books especially made for adult learners. I also like their music flash cards.
For teaching music theory I mostly used Master Theory.

I personalize every lesson, and always set goals for my students. Most of my violin students are members of the Florida Youth Orchestra as well as Gold Coast Youth Orchestra and my piano students participate in Pompano Beach competition and the annual Piano Guild auditions.
I teach any age and any level, and always stress that learning a new instrument is very similar to learning a new language, it needs a lot of patience, persistence and repetitions. My lessons are customized to my students needs, and are work in progress as they needs may change over time. I always remind my students that music can give them instant gratification when they learn to play favorite songs.
I always encourage my students to tell me about their music preferences, so I can incorporate them in their music lessons.

*** Lesson Details ***
All my tutoring sessions include reviews of previously learned material and if possible the use of technology. I use students books but often bring extra study materials if necessary.
All my lessons include: technique: I like to use the Finger Power for piano students and Essential Elements for my string students, and scales for both.
music theory: I use Master Theory or other books such as Hal Leonard's Piano Note spellers & Piano Music Theory books for younger ages, music flash cards to support learning notes and musical terminology, and of course the fun part performance.

Besides Essential Elements 2000 for strings I also use String Tunes and Fiddle Runners to add more fun to the lessons. For piano students I use Holiday Treats book, which comes in 2 different levels: Beginner & Intermediate, so my students have a new songs for a specific holiday.

*** Studio Equipment ***
I always bring violin with me to be able to show what I teach.

*** Travel Equipment ***
The students needs to have their books and assigned material ready for tutoring. Instrumental students needs to have their music books & instrument available as well as a pencil. I always stress with my students to be organized and prepared for their lesson, this way they will be able to focus better during the lesson. I bring my violin with me. I also ask that the room where the lesson takes place to be free of any distractions, such other siblings or any other noise. The quiet environment helps in faster learning.

*** Specialties ***
I tutor most K-12 subjects and prepare students to take ACT, SAT, GRE tests.
Music genres: Classical, traditional, Suzuki, Popular, Celtic, fiddle, Blues

Experienced, knowledgable and persistent in teaching. I did not think I will be able to learn fast, but Ilona helps in every step. From holding the bow rightly, to using fingers, learning the language of music, she is patient and persistent. I recommend her without reservation..

About Clifford
'Dr. Cliff,' a part-time college/university professor, teacher and tutor with 5 master's and 3 doctoral degrees in a variety of topics: Mathematics, Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, MBA, Leadership, Education and Administration. He has always used proven educational techniques to instruct undergraduate students, graduate students and school children/teenagers (K-12). Dr. Cliff believes that, although many professors and teachers do an admirable job in the classroom, many students
and children do not learn well in traditional institutions. Many students and children don't respond to the assembly line nature of most institutions. He believes that a student's or child's strengths and natural abilities need to be the foundation of learning. Dr. Cliff often warns against a "cookie cutter" approach to educating students, teenagers and children. You or your child is seen as an individual, and natural strengths are identified and built upon. Therefore, individual one-on-one tutoring or help is the key approach to each student who has any challenges difficulties in a given subject.

In today’s environment and economic challenges, with shorter budgets for the education, larger classes sizes and pressure of performing well in all kind of standard tests, I often see many students lacking true knowledge and skills in a given subject, since they cannot get individualized attention during the class session. That’s where a tutor comes into the picture, not only uncover major “holes” in students’ knowledge set but also teach students how to study, how to learn and through proper guidance “fill” those knowledge and skills holes.

I was an SAT tutor specializing in Verbal and Writing, as well as SAT II Literature. I can help find ways to tackle the test that suit your needs.

About Paul
While attending the University of Southern California, where I received my M.F.A., I worked as a writing tutor in the USC Writing Center and also taught Classical Greek Mythology. After graduation, I taught Verbal, Writing and Literature SAT classes and worked as a private tutor in a variety of subjects.

I later taught for five years at the New York Film Academy in Universal City, CA, where I taught a variety of Critical Studies classes to various levels of students, some in certificate programs and others working towards their M.F.A.

As a former English and Spanish double major, I have always enjoyed teaching at various levels. Most of my other work these days involves the writing and editing of short stories, screenplays and novels.

You’ll find that I have the education, background and experience to be an excellent instruct
or for your needs.

Paul was my favorite teacher at the New York Film Academy.
Unlike most of the teachers, Mr. Paul put a lot of effort and creativity into planning his classes, which made them both stimulating and fun for us.
I also loved the fact that Mr. Paul always respected our opinions, and never made us feel stupid when we didn’t understand something. He was always very encouraging and willing to keep explaining until we got it.

I highly recommend him to anyone interested in extra lessons. He is definitely worth it!

I taught SAT literature and writing for my entire time in Shanghai, helping students learn the intricacies of the grammar and the best way to craft an essay. Now that the test is changing, I look forward to changing with it.

About Michelle
Hi! I'm Michelle, a world traveler/teacher who's here to help bring her experience and energy to students back home in California. I've taught various subjects such as test prep, English, history, and languages to students all over the world, such as China, France, and Ecuador. I've worked with students of all ages and love getting to know them to help figure out how they best learn.

I love learning languages in my spare time and practicing when I can. When I'm not looking a bit silly doing that, I'm usually reading, at a baseball game, or hanging out with friends. I keep active, making sure to run or play a sport when I can. However, it's equally as strong as my love for foods of all kinds.

I really look forward to getting to work with you and helping you with whatever I can!

I taught a small class last summer that covered the reading and writing sections of the SAT. I help students develop techniques that they can use with these sections in particular. These techniques include but are not limited to reading context clues, time management, analyzing a passage, drawing conclusions by citing textual evidence, and understanding vocabulary, and finding literary elements.

About Rachel
Hi, I'm Rachel and I would love to become your tutor! After receiving a Bachelor's degree in English Literature, I spent a year teaching ESL in China. I then spent two years teaching middle school English in New York City. I also just finished a Master's in Education program specializing in English Language Teaching in England while tutoring high school students in English literature through Tutor Doctor.

I strive to help students achieve their goals with an encouraging demeanor and engaging lesson plans. Please do not hesitate to contact me and schedule a lesson if you're interested!

As a Caltech graduate in Chemical Engineering, I have a solid background in Math up to and including Math at the college level. I did well on the SATs (both SAT I and SAT II), and am good at dissecting the Math questions that one would commonly come across in the SATs. I also have had experience tutoring students in high school, and thus am good at pacing my lessons to help students excel on the SATs.

About Natasha
Hello, I'm Natasha and I grew up loving math and science. These subjects always felt very logical and natural to me, and I hope to share my love and intuition for them with every student I teach. My passion for math and science brought me to Caltech, where I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering with a focus in Applied Math.

I've previously tutored elementary and middle school children where I provided one-on-one assistance with homework help and exam prep in Math. I love that tutoring is not a one-size-fits-all approach and that each student can view a particular problem very differently than his or her peers. I do my best to tweak my pace and teaching style to fit each student's needs more closely, so that they can get the most out of each session.

I extensively programmed in R for 4 years in industry, and made s
ome very interesting data visualizations to represent statistical analyses of open-source data. Statistics feels a lot more approachable when there are visualizations to illustrate the concepts.

I graduated with a Chemical Engineering degree from Caltech, and worked in a protein chemistry lab for 3.5 years. I have in-depth knowledge in high-school and college-level organic chemistry, physical chemistry, thermodynamics and spectroscopy.

I grew up in a bilingual environment and so am proficient in both English and Mandarin Chinese. Having also learned French and Thai through my childhood and adolescence, I am no stranger to learning a new language and will be happy to guide a student through learning Chinese for the first time! I enjoy learning about China's rich history of over 5000 years, and believe that the best way to teach the language is to let it come alive with stories that have been handed down over many dynasties and generations.

Talk to you soon! Drop me a message so we can see if I can fit your needs.
