About David
I have been a working musician and occasional private music teacher for over 40 years. During that time I had a career in the professional audio and video industry, during which I learned how to successfully deal with people. I recently returned to school and completed a Bachelor of Music in Music Education degree at CSU Sacramento. My goal is to bring excitement and enthusiasm for music and playing an instrument to my students, and to create musicians who will make and enjoy music throughout their lives. I play guitar, bass guitar and flute, and enjoy teaching all of them to all age groups.

*** Lesson Details ***
Playing music is supposed to be fun. Lessons include playing, so they should be fun as well. My lessons are both focused and fun. I believe you get out of music what you put in. If a student doesn't practice in between lesso
ns, I will know. If a student does practice, I will know that as well. My lessons stress not only what to practice, but how. In 3-6 months, the beginning student can expect to be able to make a pleasing sound on the instrument, and be able to play beginning repertoire. Most importantly, the student will be able to play well enough to enjoy the instrument, which inevitably leads to more productive practice and continued improvement. This continued improvement is what lessons are all about.

*** Travel Equipment ***
If I travel to a student's home, I will bring my instrument only. I expect the student to provide all other equipment necessary for the lesson.

*** Specialties ***
Folk guitar, rock and roll and blues bass, classical flute, analog and digital recording, music theory

I'm a believer that almost anyone can learn to play music well, and guitar is no exception. It's something which seems difficult at first, but has a series of specific steps (like any instrument) which take the mystery out of it, and get you playing in no time! I love seeing students improve on this instrument and seeing how much fun they have once they begin to play songs they love.

About Colin
I'm a life-long musician with a passion for the art and a love of teaching it. In 2012, I graduated from Sacramento State with a Bachelors in Music. Through my schooling and personal study, I have become a well-rounded musician able to teach many instruments effectively. Making music with others at a high level, teaching, and having the opportunity to perform professionally around the Sacramento area has been a great experience. I look forward to continuing that journey, growing as a person and musician, and being a positive role-model for others!

I've been playing trumpet nearly my entire life, and studied it in college. However, I am a multi-instrumentalist and currently teach trumpet, guitar, piano, and trombone. I specialize in classical style, but can also teach jazz theory, correct swing style, articulation, etc. I have
studied with multiple music professors and have learned their most effective teaching methods. I have taken music theory classes that allow me to explain theory in a simplified manner to students. I have been playing guitar since high school and have taken many piano classes while in school, where proficiency is necessary in order to advance in the major. In my free time, I even play drums and multiple other instruments and listen to music constantly. Music is very much my life. This allows me the versatility to teach a variety of instruments and mold myself and my students into well-rounded musicians.

I have had experience with quite a few teachers over the years, and none have quite felt the same as Colin. He is knowledgeable, educated and personally very talented at his instruments, and he prepares well for his lessons and always thinks of creative/well planned approaches for each student's individual needs. He seems to invest in each studio member on a personal level, which is sadly not terribly common. The fact that he is also a working professional performing and making music out in the community makes him an even more rare asset to have. I would highly recommend him for your or your child's instructional needs.

Learn your favorite songs and riffs! Soloing, rhythm guitar, fingerpicking, and more. The foundation of music lessons is good ears and good time feel (groove). These are skills that all the best musicians have. That, along with some study of guitar basics will cover about half of our lesson time. The other half should be devoted to the kind of music that inspired you to look me up. My hope is that you will become a well rounded musician and guitar player, and that we'll both discover new music :-)

I also enjoy preparing for jam sessions, auditions, and competing for placement in school ensembles and for scholarships.

About Jordan
*Experienced teacher and professional musician...
-Performed with:
Great Good Fine Ok, Leonard Patton, Gilbert Castellanos, Francisco Torres, 10,000 Maniacs, The Mighty Untouchables, Tori Roze & The Hot Mess, Gaslamp Quarter Jazz Orchestra. Will be on tour this winter with the Brian Setzer Orchestra.
-Recorded on national tv ads for Dreyer's, KFC, Coca-Cola.
-Over 6,000 private lessons taught to over 300 students.
-More than five years of classroom teaching experience in San Diego and Miami-Dade schools: K-5 general music, middle and high school band, under graduate music history, directing college jazz ensembles
-Students have included: ages 4-96, beginners with no experience, undergraduate music majors, scholarship award winners, members of the San Diego Youth Symphony program, many locals in San Diego, and online students from
around the world.

*Note regarding scheduling - November and December of 2018 - I will be on tour with the Brian Setzer Orchestra and will only be available for online lessons.

Discounts available:
Military, Teacher discount -
$5 off all lessons
Early Bird (schedule lessons to finish by 3:30pm Pacific) -
$5 off all lessons
Combine discounts for $10 off any lesson!
Use the ask question feature and mention the discount :)

My mission is to provide a positive musical experience for all students. For some this includes rigorous preparation for an audition of some kind, for others it may be an introduction to music fundamentals to foster better listening skills and greater artistic appreciation. All students will be challenged to improve their listening, timing, and technique. All students will learn to play songs that they love.

Recommendations for best results: make a three-month commitment to weekly lessons, and work up to 30 minutes of daily practice. This formula guarantees results. Bring your instrument, music books, and a binder with sheet protectors ☺

*Scheduling policy: to avoid being charged for a lesson - One week notice is required to cancel, skip, or "roll over" a lesson. 24 hours notice to reschedule (based on availability).

To continue weekly lessons, students must maintain at least 90% attendance or the time slot may be forfeited.

Good Luck!

Jordan was born and raised in the El Centro, California where he began playing the alto sax in the elementary band program. At the age of 12, he began his study of guitar and drums, performing in several rock and ska bands around his home town and San Diego. At age 14, is where he found his love for brass instruments when he took up the trombone. While in high school he became a soloist with the Imperial Valley College Jazz Orchestra, under the direction of former Basie trumpeter Jimmy Cannon. That lead Jordan to accept the Constance Weldon Music Scholarship to attend the University of Miami in Coral Gables, FL.

While performing in South Florida Jordan appeared with major acts including 10,000 Maniacs, and appeared on the Spanish television show "Calle Ocho." He also gained invaluable experience teaching in Miami public schools. His first teaching assignment was at Hialeah-Miami Lakes Senior High School where he directed 3 beginning bands, Concert Band, Wind Ensemble, and their highly decorated Jazz Band. Later Jordan moved into the elementary setting, teaching vocal and instrumental music for grades K-5 at Cypress Elementary.

In 2007, Jordan returned to California to pursue a music career in San Diego. He can be seen performing all over San Diego, Orange, and LA Counties in styles ranging from rock, jazz, funk, blues, hip-hop, Latin, and more. He performs primarily on trombone, piano, and guitar, but is known to pick up percussion, harmonica, and other wind instruments as well. Jordan, along with the rest of the aggressively funky cover band SuperMagnetic, were the grand prize winner of the 2010 Viejas Ultimate Music Challenge 4. In 2011, Tori Roze & The Hot Mess were nominated for a San Diego Music Award in the category of "Best Blues Artist" after the release of their first album "From The Hip." They released their second album "Turbulence" last December, and are heard regularly on local San Diego radio. This album has also been nominated for Best Pop album for the 2013 San Diego Music Awards. In 2013, Jordan completed his Master of Music degree in Jazz Studies from San Diego State University.

On stage, Jordan is a talented and versatile performer. He is known for his trombone sound and improvisational ability, as well as his positive relationship with his fellow musicians. In lessons, Jordan is energetic and creative.

I have been teaching the guitar 8 years. I'm building a strong foundation of techniques.I specialize in Blues, classical &typically use MelBay books and also have the following to use the Sheet music.
In addition,I emphasize how to read a good sight reading.

About Esther
I'm Esther, a very enthusiastic musician. I started out teaching myself piano and singing in a choir at the age of 9. I moved to the U.S. in 1992 and studied music for 10 years receiving my B.M. & M.M in music at California State University of Sacramento. I studied and trained with Claudia Kitka & Jackie Victorino for voice and Kirsten Smith, Joan McDe, & Angel Mamn for piano. I have performed many solo concerts in the U.S. as well as South Korea.

I find a student's strengths and weaknesses using various ways to encourage each student. I am very patient, kind, flexible, and enthusiastic and I love working with children as much as adults. I strongly support basic skills: sight-reading, pitch and tone.

I have 30 years experience teaching kids and adults private piano and 14 yrs voice coaching (early period to contemporary). I sp
eak fluent Korean and English.

*** Lesson Details ***
My objectives: to help students powerfully communicate through the essence of music and aid the development of children and adults by finding their strengths and weaknesses and to develop their skills and show their musical talents. I emphasize basic skills, good sight-reading, and Solfege skills (Do-Re-Me...etc), vocal technique, vocal performance, and Alexandria technique. Students participate in their own recital and show their musical talents.

Lessons are held at either your home, or mine using composers from various time periods that speaks to the individual student.
Also,I do prefer to work a weekly student.
A beginner lesson may be 10-15 min. for warm-ups and scales, 10-15 min. theory and 10 min. playtime. In three to six months the student will be able to read sheet music and should be able to perform simple songs.

An intermediate lesson is longer, 45-50 min., with more focus on music from a specific chosen time-period. A specialty is preparation for voice and piano auditions for entering college.

I enjoy teaching children from age 5 up to adults. I also can teach beginner guitar.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Piano, electronic keyboard, guitar.

*** Travel Equipment ***
Guitar

*** Specialties ***
I teach the basic skills very strongly, and also encourage students and, challenge them, as well.
I also have new techniques for teaching voice and piano.
I do prefer to teach a weekly lesson.

I honestly never sang in front of people, though I love to rap with my friends in karaoke. I already gained so much confidence and see the difference. I was part of a Beginner Guitar group lesson with Todd. In that class, he managed to give us all personal attention. Since then, I've had a weekly lesson for years and he's always had me progressing at my own rate. I like how we spend our time with a quick review of whatever it is I've been learning before we move on to something new. It's amazing how much we pack into a lesson. Todd is always very flexible with whatever I want to learn so we can take detours into favorite songs or artists (and we even added a bit of harmonica at my request). Even if I pick a difficult piece he can adapt it to my skill level (and then add the complexity as I progress). And through it all, he has shown endless good humor and patience.

I will make sure you start playing the songs you love fast! I will teach you the basics of guitar through playing the songs that you want to play. I have been playing guitar my entire life and have worked with students of various skill levels. If you are more advanced and would like to work on your improvisation I can help with that too. I have a background in jazz and love to play blues and rock as well.

About Benjamin
Hi! I'm Ben and I play guitar. When I was 5 years old my parents signed me up for lessons at school and I have been playing ever since. I played a lot of jazz growing up which helped me learn the fundamentals of music theory as well as improvisation. I enjoy playing many styles of music and can help students learn guitar from the ground up or, if they are more advanced, take their playing to the next level.

Smile and have fun with it !

I love teaching guitar. And each student is unique.

My approach is to gear my teaching methods to the individual learning style of the student.

You need someone who responds to you and interacts with you as a unique learner. This makes learning fun and effective for you.

About Michele
Guitar haa been a love of mine since I was 14, when I first saw someone entertaining people at a party.

I began lessons for myself, at the age of 16. First I learned the basics and rock style music, and then I played and sang in some local Baltimore garage bands and in talent shows.

I went on to major in music in college, at Towson State University, with classical guitar as my concentration.

I began playing out professionally in my 20's, includings bars and restaurants like the Westminster Inn and at Fells Point, festivals like the Owings Mills Festival, weddings and parties.

I love teaching guitar and seeing the student's eyes light up, when things click together to get that favorite riff or favorite song right !

I have 25 + years of teaching experience.
I have taught over 100 students, including teens, adults, pre-
teens, and special needs adults and children.
