I instruct aspiring vocalists, actors and musicians the foundation of their craft; but without the art of PERFORMING, I believe that all the technical knowledge in the world will never catapult them into a successful realm. My Academy is predicated on performance, in whatever genre the student aspires to master. I tell each student, however lofty their career expectations, that all we study will be predicated not only on performance, but on FUN. For all the above arts are under the guise of entertainment. To give a masterful performance IS to be entertaining. An audience looks to entertainment to provide happiness and fun. We tie all of these characteristics together in our journey to excel at Musical Performance.
I have been active in the entertainment industry since the age of 12, when I gave my first professional performance. Prior to that I was already being introduced to music with years of guitar, and then vocal instruction. I do not remember a time of my life when I was not singing somewhere; in the house, in the yard, in the classroom. That is perhaps why I identify so well with the young people who gather so much enjoyment from "just singing" at every opportunity. I studied professionally for over 10 years with renown soprano and voice teacher Sylvia Jensen, who was instrumental in the enhancement of my vocal knowledge and technique. She is now the Director of Education for the Miss Ohio pageants of the Miss America competitions, elevating many young ladies to the national spotlight. At age 14, I auditioned for, and was added to cast of a
network television variety program, "The Gene Carroll Show", that was a television institution for over 30 years in the Midwest. I was a featured performer on that program for over 7 years, all the while perfecting the art of "playing to a camera." This experience was invaluable, and the knowledge I gathered is now included in my curriculum. I also began performing a solo act in the nightclub circuit at the age of 15, performing up and down the "north coast" from Cleveland, OH, (my home), to Erie. PA. At a very young age, I learned the difficult art of choosing musical material and pacing a show; also adapting to performing under a myriad of conditions with a vast array of musical accompaniment. After graduating college with a degree in Business Administration and Marketing, I assembled my own band, and took to the road. That experience eventually brought the act to Las Vegas in 1982. Over the years my show has been a staple in major casino cabarets in Las Vegas, and all over Nevada. Since my first engagement at The Landmark Hotel in the early 1980's, I have literally been up and down the famed Las Vegas Strip many times over. The Desert Inn, The Dunes, The Stardust, The Maxim, The Tropicana, New York New York, Mandalay Bay, MGM, Bally's, The Flamingo, The Imperial Palace, The Four Queens, The Golden Nugget, The Fremont, The Venetian, The Palazzo, and a three year engagement at The Riviera. My show is truly comprised of musical variety; classics, show tunes, jazz, rock, blues, r&b, country. Even a presentation of "Music of the Night" from Phantom of the Opera, that I perform in full costume. It is this ability to successfully deliver an extensive repertoire that I am enthusiastic about passing along to the next generation of entertainers.
I have been truly blessed in my career to have experienced so many highlights; too many to document. From winning an understudy roll in the Broadway Musical "Platinum" starring Hollywood actress Alexis Smith, to performing our National Anthem at events ranging from Major League Baseball to ESPN Boxing to receptions for major dignitaries, to recording 7 albums and a full-length video, to being asked to perform for Mr. Frank Sinatra at the Frank Sinatra Celebrity Golf Tournament, I have lived a full life on stage, learning and absorbing every bit of knowledge gathered along the way. Now it is my desire to escalate my status as an educator to a more "one on one" experience; availing myself the opportunity to pass along that wealth of knowledge to individual students who aspire to enjoy the entertainment profession as I have, providing them with the skills needed to successfully compete. Or, should it be their choice not to pursue entertainment as a vocation, to gain a working understanding of all facets of their instrument so as to gain a better appreciation of music. Whatever the goal of the student, I feel that I am equipped to provide them with the tools needed to achieve that goal.
*** Lesson Details *** Content of Sessions
Generally, the first 10-15 minutes of each lesson will be focused on vocal warm up and exercise. (For guitar students, we will review the previous week's assignment). For Vocal Students, it is understood that the voice mechanism is made up of muscles, and as an athlete prepares for a sporting event, a singer must prepare to vocalize. It is at this time in our lesson when the student will develop good habits of voice maintenance, which will serve them well throughout their careers. The proper care and preservation of the vocal unit cannot be stressed enough, especially for pubescent and pre-pubescent students. Vocal chords in a developmental stage are most susceptible to damage, and because they are particularly sensitive, they must be handled with care. Our warm up regimen is designed to strengthen as well as preserve the singing voice.
I am not an advocate of getting too involved and "bogged down" in the technical aspects of singing, especially with the young students, and especially early in our program. This is not to say that breath control, tonality, pitch, etc. are not vital to good singing, because these workings are ESSENTIAL, and their application will certainly be incorporated into our studies. Some instructors, on occasion, have a tendency to lose sight of the fact that much to do with singing happens "naturally", and too much focus on the "technical" can actually be inhibiting. This can alter a beautiful, natural tone into one that is unnatural and contrived.
I adhere to the philosophy that above all else, SINGERS WANT TO SING SONGS, and musicians-in-training want to play music. That is our focus, and all of our training is conceived with that objective in mind. All the technical knowledge and coaching serves no purpose without practical application. It is my belief that the most significant progress occurs when a vocalist is singing a song.
Nearly every element of instruction can be utilized in the performance of one song. This is why the majority of our session time will be spent "in song". For the very young student, we will concentrate our efforts with the students choices of favorite and familiar songs. The older students will undoubtedly have favorite songs, styles and artists. Special attention will be paid to the genre most enjoyed by the student, but diversity will be emphasized as well, and a variety of genres will be unpacked and explored. I believe that whatever a student's musical goals and aspirations, it is in their best interest to gain knowledge and insight in all facets of music, singing, and performance.
The most vital pre-requisite for any student is their enthusiasm. My ambition will be to harness that enthusiasm and channel it productively through stimulating instruction. Our sessions will be informative and educational, but always predicated upon "having fun with music".
I am proud to feature a curriculum that emphasizes the entertainment aspect of singing as well as the technical; created to benefit all ages and experience levels, from beginner to seasoned professional. After just weeks of my "Triple Threat Training" a student will begin to see astounding results: vocally, musically, and in the art of performance. I am excited to share my knowledge with you. Young students enjoy using the mics and hearing themselves sing and perform. Since our lessons are predicated on enjoying the art of singing, this opportunity has proven invaluable. For the advanced performer, studying all aspects of amplification and what a singer should know about their stage sound is a part of our educational curriculum. My studio is furnished with the equipment that is essential to mastering that knowledge. Since the practical aspect of my course is based on singing songs, I provide all the latest technology required to allow my students the opportunity to sing the songs of their choosing, with and without the lead vocal tracks. I feel that when students are singing their favorite songs, it offers me the greatest teaching opportunities. I make certain the every musical genre can be represented, and feel I have the knowledge and ability to guide the student is whatever their musical tastes. My studio is also equipped with piano (for vocal exercises), and guitars, which gives me opportunity to accompany my students when the musical moment is appropriate. Goals: Since I am also a Life Coach, we really focus on how to accomplish our hopes and desires. We begin by weekly, then monthly and even a yearly goal.
Each week we also focus on something in my STUDENT PAL - mnemonic. Another is TECHNIQUE. Technique is the ability to have proper position, wrist-lifts and finger curve as well as Theoretic knowledge and application.
I started giving out lickable gold stars, you know, the old-fashioned kind? They are for those students who mark their lesson sheet and come prepared... They really seem to enjoy that, and I adore the nostalgia!
It is a great week when students are nearly all prepared and ready for their lessons. This makes both Coach and student more effective and the time together more enjoyable.

I have been teaching music, performing music and enjoying music since I was a tiny three-year old. My first piano lessons were at age seven. I have since taught the students of former students! How fun is that?
Music has blessed my life in countless ways and given me opportunities I'd never dreamed of. Teaching at the Young Artists Conservatory of Music; Singing in Carnegie Hall, Performing across Europe and teaching the best students for over 25 years has been a delight.
I believe strongly that those who spend their time and resources for musical education are some of the brightest and most intelligent people around. Each of my students have their own individual goals and reasons for taking music lessons, which we revisit monthly. I believe that my role is to be a support and tool for them/you to accomplish the goals set, working with music that delights and educates.
You want the best teacher, who offers information, example, practice and performance opportunities and then gets out of the way of the student's own "voice" (whether playing or singing) so that they can be free to create their own style.
*** Lesson Details *** In our lessons, we work with a predictable schedule of balance. We have weekly exercises to make strong fingers and or voices, and technique and theory practice to hone skills that will improve our performances, whether they are for others or for our own benefit. Each student of piano can learn how to create and write their own music in time, choose their own pieces to work on, and have a say in their classical and performance goals.

Learning the piano ought to be a JOY. I believe in playing the piano, not 'practicing' it. Enjoy what you do, and you'll do it longer and with celebration instead of duty.

I grew up in a household of 9 where music was always center stage. We would sing as a family in different venues and were often called the VonTrapp family. I have enjoyed singing and performing from a young age. I began studying flute at age 8, after scoring highest in the harmony listening exam and began formal violin lessons at the age of 9. I studied all genres including, fiddle, classical, musical theater and 20th century. I have continued to study violin since then and have performed in many orchestras and small groups, such as Honor Orchestra, the Paradise Symphony, the Yuba College Orchestra, Yuba-Sutter Oratorio Society Orchestra and more. I have been concert master and first stand in many of these. I have also soloed in many and have been the first violinist in quartets for countless weddings and other events. I have also played
in numerous pit orchestras for musicals. I have been in choirs and soloing since I can remember. I have performed and soloed in choirs such as the Yuba-Sutter Oratorio Society, CSUS Chamber Choir, the CSUS Women's Choir and more. I have toured to Victoria, Montreal, Ottowa, Oregon and Washington. I have also been in opera productions such as The Magic Flute, Peleas and Melisande and Die Fledermaus (The Bat) with CSUS Opera. I am a recent recipient of the Saturday Club Scholarship, a prestigious award, and have won many competitions (some repeatedly) both vocally and with violin, such as the Tri-County Competition, Young Artist Competitions, and the California Soloist and Ensemble Competitions. Additionally, I have performed musical theater repertoire and have performed as lead in musicals such as Beauty and the Beast and Into the Woods. I have also soloed repeatedly with the Yuba College jazz band and at churches all around. I have earned my Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from CSU Sacramento. I have my Associates Degrees in both Music and Early Childhood Education from Yuba College. Additionally, I have obtained my certificate of completion of training from Music Together, an organization which trains teachers to teach Basic Music Competence (both in tonality and meter), and am currently teaching this curriculum. I have been teaching music privately for over ten years to all ages, genders and abilities. Additionally, I have taught ages 0-5 years in a preschool setting for 7 years and am extremely familiar with developmentally appropriate practices for both preschool and school age, as I am a site supervisor at a child development center with a preschool and after school program. I have had many adult students as well and encourage adults to enrich their lives with music at any age! Additionally, I have experience teaching parent child classes and am familiar with how to teach to the particular needs of each family and student. *** Lesson Details *** I have been teaching since 2002 and have loved every minute of it! I teach all ages. I tailor my style of teaching to each student's goals and to what works for you. If you want to learn Taylor Swift music, I won't be giving you arias. On the other hand, if you wish to study classically, I have repertoire appropriate for you. I teach fiddle, classical, orchestral, 20th century and more for violin students and have experience with jazz, classical, musical theater, pop, religious, spiritual, choral, 20th century and more vocally. For violin students, I use the Suzuki method as a pushing off point, a tried and true method used in many countries across the world, though I have other repertoire including fiddle, orchestra, small ensemble, solo, concertos, Christmas, and more. For vocalist, I start with the book, Adventures in Singing. I also have warm ups and exercises to keep you vocally healthy. I will teach you anything you want to learn! I also teach how to read music, theory and harmony, depending on your interest and tailored to your current skill level. I am encouraging and knowledgeable. I will meet you at your current level, be that beginner, intermediate, or advanced. My students can look forward to being encouraged and growing through their time with me. I don't have preset ideas about where you should be in 3-6 months, nor do I have a one size fits all teaching style. Instead, I will work with you individually so that you will become the best musician you can be, meet your goals, and increase your enjoyment and appreciation for music.

Kim can teach you or your child, no matter where you are!
I was 30 when I decided to rekindle my love for the violin. I hadn’t played since before YouTube was invented, and I was skeptical about learning violin online. By the first lesson, Kim had already corrected poor habits I didn’t know I had, just after hearing me play a few scales. She adjusted her teaching style to my personality so seamlessly that I felt I was just getting pointers from a dear violinist friend whose advice is always spot-on. Weekly practice never felt like work, because Kim tailored my assignments to my goals. Before I knew it, I was playing complex concertos I could never do in high school. I started out being able to play just one major scale. Within 10 months, I was in Suzuki Book 4!
I can’t say enough about Kim’s expert teaching skills. During a sight-reading of a very difficult piece, I became so frustrated that I wanted to stop the lesson and try again later. Kim encouraged me until I had gotten all the way through, and pointed out what I could learn from my performance. When I had time to calm down, I realized that Kim can do this for any student; adults, children, and adults whose inner child throws a tantrum when they’re frustrated by a musical challenge. :-)
Teachers like Kim are rare, and worth their weight in gold. I learned so much more than violin fundamentals through my lessons with her. I’m convinced Kim can teach anyone, of any age—even through an online platform.

We are a collaborative bunch and collaborating to make sure you're ready and organized for your auditions makes sense. Stop trying to muscle through this necessary step alone. No one who works consistently does that! They ask for help. ASK FOR HELP!! Solidify your acting choices so you don't have to worry about them the day before your audition. I teach classical techniques that can be applied to any kind of singing. I will also discuss the character with you to properly portray the meaning of the song. I will also discuss concert and audition dress, etiquette, and performance techniques.
I'm an extremely positive and motivated person who thoroughly enjoys sharing her gift and knowledge with other people. I have a Performer's Certificate, a Masters of Music and a Bachelors of Music in Vocal Performance and Opera. I have been teaching voice lessons for ten years and currently run a private studio out of my home in Elk Grove, CA. As much as I love teaching, I also truly enjoy performing on stage. I have performed the professional opera roles of Lady Ella/Chorus in Cimarron Opera's performance of Patience. I was also previously a member of the Wichita Grand Opera Chorus, and recently performed in their productions of Turandot, Don Carlo, Guillaume Tell, Tosca, Otello and Le Nozze di Figaro. I have also performed other professional roles such as Belle/Chorus in The Forum Theater's production of A Christmas Carol. Throughout

I began teaching voice lessons during my vocal pedagogy class, while getting my Masters Degree. I have been teaching consistently for a total of ten years. I began teaching for a community school for the arts in Muncie, IN. After I graduated with my Masters Degree, I taught lessons for a children's theater company in Manitowoc, WI until I started my Performer's Certificate. I taught for another community arts school during my Performer's Certificate in DeKalb, IL. After that, I began a private studio out of my home and have been teaching privately at my in-home studio ever since. I also have experience teaching Music Theory and Ear Training, Music Appreciation and Private Voice Lessons at the college level as an Adjunct Professor at Kishwaukee College in Malta, IL. I have always loved and enjoyed teaching! It has probably been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life and I am always eager to welcome new students of all ages!
*** Lesson Details *** I teach classical technique that can be applied to any type or genre of music. I usually start with standard singing and breathing techniques. Then I will listen to a student's voice and determine their range and pick out a solo song based on their range, ability level, and the preferences of the student. I am a firm believer that no student fits into the standard "box" of teaching. Therefore, I tailor my teaching style to match the individual needs, issues, and goals of a particular student. It is very important to me that students enjoy their lessons and feel engaged in the learning process. My biggest rule is that they need to have fun and enjoy what they are doing. I am a very kind, up-beat and friendly teacher that believes in positive reinforcement and constructive criticism. I encourage my students to communicate with me on an equal level and to always ask questions if they don't understand something. Watching people learn and grow as singers, and knowing that you had a hand in it, is probably one of the most rewarding parts of being a teacher. It is this ideal that fuels my need to teach others.
*** Studio Equipment *** I have set aside a complete room in my house for my teaching studio. I have a Baldwin spinet, a Manhasset music stand, a wide library of music and a sofa for students and their parents to sit on.
My daughter loves taking lessons from her. Kerri's personality makes the lessons really fun. She teaches my daughter at her level, where she is able to understand things. She's just an awesome teacher!

I have been studying and performing music for the majority of my life, starting with piano in the third grade. I started singing in choirs in high school and continued studying voice throughout college. I have a classical background and moved to jazz voice as an undergraduate at California State University of Sacramento. I recently completed my Masters Degree in Vocal Performance in 2015!

ooks which are required for piano lessons. I can supply photo copies for the first couple of lessons until books are delivered.
*** Travel Equipment *** I can provide a metronome for lessons, but each student should acquire their own for practicing purposes. Students should provide a stereo, preferably with an iPod adapter, to listen to musical examples, and a piano for voice or their own instrument for instrumental lessons. I can provide an extra ukulele for lessons, but students should have their own for practicing purposes.
*** Specialties *** I specialize in jazz voice, teaching students jazz theory and improvisation as well as stylistic techniques.
This is mine and my daughters first time taking music lessons. Melissa is patient with my daughter and very knowledgeable. After five lessons with Melissa I feel we are on the right track to accomplishing our ukulele goals.

I can't say enough great things about Sue! Under her guidance, it's been a pleasure getting back into playing my flute after a hiatus of over 25 years. Her knowledge of the instrument and expert instruction (as well as her infinite patience!) continue to provide me with the motivation I've needed to overcome some of the challenges I've faced after being away from my instrument for so long. Her teaching style is relaxed and flexible but firm; she knows just when I need to be challenged and just when to back away a bit. She's been a great fit for me, and I encourage other flute players of all levels to giver her a try!

Dr. Sue Sheya is truly an exceptional instructor. As a student who studied a little bit of music in Europe, it was difficult for me to adjust to the American solfege system (C, D, E scale) as I was used to the European solfege (Do, Re, Mi). However, Dr. Sheya was very flexible and adjusted all her lesson materials so that I could truly succeed in learning. I highly recommend her for anyone looking for a supportive, friendly, and enthusiastic teacher that can truly guide them in learning how to play the flute!

id three songs on my own. That took a week and a half and at least 5 to 6 hrs each. I looked around and hired a local coach who was very classical and just didn't get it. 3 hrs I will never get back. I found Danny online, hired him, and it was perfect...We warmed up with scales and light cardio. Very different I will say but effective. Anyways, we finished the 3 songs in just under 2 hrs. Wow! To begin, Melanie's upbeat and bright, but professional personality is one that easily clicks with all types of students, making it easy to learn. She is so patient and kind, but just strict enough to get us to do what we need to do. I have seen her sing several times and her great vocal talents and stage performances allow her to give honest, professional, and needed pointers that help students improve (but never in a harsh way).
