About Matthew J
I currently work as a freelance music producer as well as a guitar/bass teacher and as a music software teacher. I have been playing guitar for 18 years and teaching guitar and bass for 9 years. I have worked as a private and group guitar instructor at several music education establishments in the Chicago, Los Angeles and in Eugene, Oregon as well. I have also worked as a band coach for youth groups, where I taught them cover songs, helped them write their own songs and prepared them for live performances. I studied at Columbia College Chicago majoring in Classical Guitar, Latin Music and Music Theory. I started taking private guitar lessons as a teenager for several years and played in my high school jazz band along with original rock bands. While in high school, I was able to study with popular Chicago rock virtuoso guitarist Kev
in M. Buck, where I first learned music theory and was inspired to be more studious with the guitar.
I have performed in rock/modern bands for 12 years as an electric guitarist and also for 4 years as a solo acoustic guitarist mixing Bossa Nova, Classical Guitar and original compositions into my performance repertoire.

For instrument lessons- I'm a patient teacher that's passionate about guitar and helping students reach their musical goals whether they are casual players or serious musicians. For beginners, I use Hal Leonard instructional guitar books along with paper handouts and sheet music. I believe it's important for everyone to learn the fundamentals of music to create a strong base of skills in order to continue playing and learning music throughout one's life. For more experienced players, I like to teach various modern rock/pop songs, classical guitar songs, picking patterns, finger picking patters, improvisation, scales and music theory. I teach nylon string acoustic, steel string acoustic guitar and electric guitar and bass I believe the most basic goal for a guitar student is to be able to play a song in it's entirety, whether it's by themselves or with other musicians/music students. I believe that some of the most important music skills are learned while actually playing with other musicians. It is crucial when learning an instrument to be able to play in 'real time'; playing music with a steady sense of rhythm.
*** Specialties *** I teach Classical Guitar, Brazilian Jazz, bass guitar, rock, pop, blues, funk and folk guitar using method books, sheet music and guitar tablature.
Absolute joy to be taught by Matt, knowledgeable, encouraging and enthusiastic. (Timely as well if that's important to you!), i learnt an awful lot from Matt and felt fortunate to have chosen him as my teacher.

Matthew has been a wonderful instructor. I feel that i have learned a lot and also enjoyed the process. He has also been very accomodating about special teaching requests that have helped me develop my skills in genres I enjoy.
Classical is my specialty. I've taught for almost 15 years and can really help you reach your goals and become a better musician.
KIDS: I also specialize in teaching kids classical guitar. Classical for your kids is the best way to get them learning real music and theory, developing the best possible technique and good habits, and literally changing their brain chemistry for the better! The foundations they establish with classical leads them to better playing of ANY style even if they don't stick with classical. I am contracted out and travel the nation teaching kids classical guitar and teaching teachers how to teach it, so I feel fully confident you're in the best hands you could be in if your child takes lessons with me.
ADULTS: If you're just starting out, I will help you build a technical foundation first, playing through a "boot camp" of easy pieces to build sight reading and technical skills. When you're done with that you're ready to tackle some really cool ...

Jaxon the Guitarist: I am a Doctoral Guitar Major at USC studying classical guitar. I have been playing the guitar for over 20 years and teaching for 15. My main style is classical, and due to the technical training I have had since I was very young, it has been very easy for me to learn and master other styles such as Flamenco, Rock, Jazz, Blues, Pop, Country. I have a passion for performing and have played hundreds of solo and ensemble concerts. As a classical performer I have won prizes in numerous competitions, including the Pacific Guitar Competition, San Francisco Guitar Competition, Sierra Nevada Competition, and the OSAA Oregon State Competition. I have played concerts all over the United States as well as in Spain and Mexico. As a performer of other styles I have played in many orig

I recently won a Fulbright Scholarship to study Spanish and Flamenco Guitar in Seville, Spain for 2015 and 16.
Jaxon the Teacher: I really love spreading the knowledge I've learned over the years about the guitar, bass guitar, songwriting, music theory, and everything music related to my students. I find a huge sense of fulfillment in seeing my students understand and enjoy learning and making beautiful music. Hi I'm Dillon Casey and I've been teaching music for almost 15 years and really enjoy it. My mission as a teacher is to create an atmosphere of learning, fun, and creativity for my students. I aim to show my students that music can be exciting and enjoyable and to help them foster their own love and appreciation of music.
I cater to each individual students needs and have created a curriculum framework in order to do this effectively and keep students engaged and having fun. I incorporate elements of music history, theory, technique, and creativity.
I have a unique method that I've developed that incorporates my love of apps and technology, along with my interest in psychology, where I use strategies in goal setting, practice techniques, and continual motivation to keep the student not only learning, but learning much quicker
and more enjoyably than a standard guitar lesson.
I am also an experienced professional musician and recording engineer. I have been playing music professionally for 17 years. I received my Bachelor in Music Performance from San Diego State University in 2012. I've had the opportunity to study under many notable guitar teachers including Peter Sprague and Celin Romero. I've played on stage with many notable performers and have received multiple awards and nominations at the San Diego Music Awards. I run DaisyKiller recording studios in Los Angeles.

I've taken lessons with Dillon for 5 months, and he has helped me make tremendous progress. I was lucky to find Dillon because my music interests are all over the place. I wanted to learn about fingerstyle, soul, jazz, blues, Latin music, music theory, transcribing for bands. Dillon helped me with all of those. He's the kind of person whose has really studied the guitar and can distill the music from many styles into a few simple ideas for the guitar, and explain those ideas in a memorable way.
I'll continue taking lessons from him, and would recommend him as a teacher to anyone looking for a teacher with charisma.

Dillon is an absolutely amazing teacher. I just started playing the piano a few months ago and he has been instrumental in motivating me and giving me the tools I need to get started. He is always willing to switch it up each lesson depending on how I am feeling that week and I really enjoy working with him. Dillon is extremely talented and dedicated to music which is really great, because starting out can be hard. I would highly recommend Dillon to anyone!

Dillon- was not reliable. He no-showed twice and his phone was not active. Not a good start for beginner student!
Each lesson is designed on the level of the student's ability from beginner to advanced. Rock, R&B, funk, jazz, blues, POP and country music. I like to use song learning as a vehicle to sharpen your skills. Learning skills through songs is more fun for beginners. More advanced students will work on everything from theory, reading, harmony; and how you can use scales and arpeggios in a number of ways over several different styles of music.
~ Customized Lesson Plan for You. ~
Learning the guitar is a fun, yet, challenging experience. Having an instructor guide you through the process makes learning easier and more efficient. The internet provides a wealth of information but can not interact with you and help your specific needs. Many guitar players get frustrated and give up. Getting the encouragement and expertise of an instructor who has been there before greatly enhances chances of success.
My style of teaching is founded on fun with the instrument and guiding students to real music situations. Many students come to me with an incomplete set of skills. These (self taught) players have several basic fundamental holes in their playing.
It is also important to me that students have a basic knowledge of music theory. This way, they can enjoy the guitar for th
e rest of their life. If you just learn to put your hands in a certain place to play a certain song, you are missing out. If you learn what it is your actually doing, you can apply it. This may be the most important benefit of a private instructor.
What You Will Learn:
Beginning Students: In my experience, over several years, I find most beginners are surprised the guitar is so hard to play. Having an instructor to help you past that frustration will lead to a lifelong enjoyment of your guitar in the songs you love. - Learning the basic chords. - How to move from chord to chord smoothly. - Using these chords to play your favorite songs. - Understanding guitar notation (tabs, chord grids, song books, standard notation). This way, the skills you learn will last a life time!
Intermediate/ Advanced Students: This is for the hungry players. You will be given the direction to achieve a high level of musicianship. You will be challenged to reach your full potential. - Technique drills - Scale knowledge - Advanced chords - Improvisation tips - Chop Building - Theory - Reading - Composition
Experience & Background:
I've teaching and performing professionally for 23 years. - One year OCHSA jazz combo. - 15 years performing music clubs, casuals as a solo performer and in a jazz trio. - 23 years teaching individuals and groups. - 11 years as Irvine and Laguna YAMAHA Music school instructor.
I've studied with some of the top teachers in California: - Jim Fagen (classical guitar) - Erik Halbig (rock, jazz & country) - Jim Witzel (head of jazz guitar at CSUSF) - Ron Eshcete (jazz guitar) - Carl Verheyen (everything).
He is good!!!
I can play the very basic when I started but still need someone to help me to put everything together. He can diagnosis my level and design the learning plan for me when we first met. Lesson is fun and he always got something new/interesting to for students to work and practice.

Incredible and knowledgeable guitar instructor!
I just realized how important to have a teacher right in front me to guide and correct my fingers when I had my 1st class with Stephen. Just like everybody else, I took the online lessons for few months with other teacher and also learned from Youtube on my own in the last two years. I can play but I knew I was missing something.
He really brought me to the next level.

Lesson was fun!!!!
I can play the basic chords before I met him. Stephen can oversee the problems and fix it when in the first lesson. I was like....WoW!!! He is a experienced guitar instructor. Impressed!!!
I took classical guitar lessons for four years before pursuing it in college and I have years worth of classical guitar arrangements for a variety of skill levels. For any student eager to see the amazing music that a single guitarist can create classical guitar is a great place to start.
Hello aspiring guitarists! My name is Ben. I am a musician hailing from Central Ohio seeking to share my knowledge of the guitar and music theory with anyone and everyone eager to learn. I have taught guitar lessons for the last five years and I have taken guitar lessons myself for the past 12 years. In 2012 I attended Capital University in Columbus, Ohio on a scholarship for classical guitar. Following my time at Capital I lived in Columbus writing music and playing guitar for several local groups while also teaching private guitar lessons. I currently gig as a guitarist and bass player in several Los Angeles based bands and I recently finished my first solo EP, which I recorded independently from my own home studio. My teaching style is very adaptive and fluid, focusing on the individual needs and goals of my students. From learning you
r favorite songs on the guitar to mastering your major and minor scales, together we will both strive to become the best guitarist we can be.
Ben is a great partner in pushing you on your journey toward better guitar playing. He knows theory and proper technique for those looking to improve their skills, and yet he also loves the classics that will get new players strumming and hearing sounds they recognize faster than they would learning from a youtube video. His knowledge, patience and kind disposition (not to mention his punctuality) make him a guitar teacher you want to stay with for years!

I would highly recommend Ben. He showed up on time, is very knowledgable, courteous, is a great teacher and very engaging. My daughter enjoyed the lesson, and most importantly, is looking forward to practicing what she learned.
I have been fortunate enough to study with many great classical guitarists since I started playing the guitar. My first instructor was a student of Andres Segovia, the father of classical guitar! I also studied with great classical guitarists while earning my degree at USC. I took years of lessons with both Adam del Monte and James Smith, and I am always glad to share everything I learned on to the next classical guitarist!
I have a deep passion for music making and music education. I take pride in watching my students progress, develop and excel. I have helped all level of students, from early beginners getting over the beginner lessons hump, to students preparing to enter college and hobbyists or professionals trying to sharpen their skills. I am proud of the work that I have done and love to share my knowledge and experience with others!
Joseph is a classical Guitar Instructor who has had experience with several guitar students ages 7 and above. He covers everything from theory, technique and performing.
Joseph Gulasarian is a professional guitarist who has trained under well known flamenco/classical guitarists such as Vahagni Turgutyan, Sarkis Turgutyan, and Saro Babikian for over 8 years. Joseph has also performed at various venues and recitals, such as USC, performing art studios and cafes! He makes learning easy and takes step by step procedures to benefit his students the best he can. Making learning fun and enjoyable to all his students.
Joseph is a very knowledgeable and friendly teacher. He is organized and carefully plans for each lesson. My playing techniques improved a lot since I started working with him. He helped me better understand the music I play and think of beyond the technique and hitting the right notes. Thus, I became more expressive and musical player.

"She's been more than I expected. Personable with a lot of energy with a knowledge base I can't begin to fathom. She's going to make learning guitar a grea
t experience. I only hope is that I can live up to her expectations."
"Sylivan is patient and kind. I have been taking lesson with him for more than a year already. He builds up my confidence in music and gives me encouragmen
t whenever I need it. I'm so thankful for having him as my guitar teacher."
"Edwin inspires, challenges, and encourages. My son couldn't be more excited about the instruction he is receiving. Thank you, Edwin!"
"Excellent, safe and trustworthy.
Josh has been the best guitar teach I have had (I have had three others in the past). He is exceedingly patient, flexibl
e and very knowledgeable about the subject, for both theory and practice.
I have a better understanding of the mechanics, style and technique of classical guitar than I had coming in and have learned some really excellent pieces. Josh works at my pace and understands when work and 'life' interfere with my ability to practice during the week."
"Ahmad is great. I started with him in November last year and have been seeing him weekly since. He's that perfect blend of very, very smart about guitar+m
usic, but down to earth in his style and methodology. He's also a great guy and makes lessons fun. I discovered Ahmad from the Internet then found out that a close friend had learned guitar from him a couple of years ago. She raves about him. Bottom-line: if you're looking for quality guitar instruction from a genuine and very capable teacher you can't do better than Ahmad."
"My daughter has been taking lessons with Mark for a little over a year. She has learned songs she likes and Mark helps build her abilities and confidence.
In her words: Mark plays along with you and tells you what you’re doing well and what can be improved. He gives good tips about how to work on what you need to improve. He recommends songs to play but also asks what songs you want to play."
"I began taking one-on-one lessons with Joseph a couple months ago, and he is an awesome instructor! He is very professional and patient. Joseph takes the
time to explain and answer questions, and ensures you understand before he moves on. I highly recommend him!"
"Austin is knowledgeable, flexible with time schedule and friendly. I enjoyed learning guitar from him"
