Hey there! I'm Amanda! Let's work together on your goals towards learning French! Unlike everyone else listed here, I am not a language teacher, I am a language COACH. It's 2018; let's learn languages like it's the 21st century! As a PhD candidate at the University of Florida studying Linguistics, I have studied all the best ways to learn a language and would love to share my passion with you!
As your coach, I'll help you focus on your goals and hold you accountable for accomplishing them. I promote student agency and will help you to make your own choices about your own learning; this way each lesson fits your individual needs and differences. As your own language and success coach, we will not only work together to understand the target language vocabulary and grammar, but we will also delve into the metacognitive and self-regulatory skills necessary to study quickly and efficiently, feel comfortable speaking the language, and get ahead in other areas of your life as well!
Congratulations on starting/continuing your language journey in French! I would love to join you! I'm a PhD student at the University of Florida studying Linguistics with a specialization in Second Language Acquisition (aka the best ways to learn languages)!!! Different, from the other individuals listed here, I am not a language teacher, I am a language COACH. It's time to learn a language like it's the 21st century! Let's work together to reach your goals!
What is a language coach?
As a language couch, I enable students to focus on their goals and hold them accountable for accomplishing them. I promote student agency and allow students to make choices about their own learning; this way each lesson fits their individual needs and differences. As your own language and success coach, we will not only work t
My mission for each lesson is to provide a language learning experience unique in its approach to incorporate strategy instruction including reducing foreign language anxiety, building agency, and developing self-regulated learning skills. My coaching objective is to help learners reach their second language goals through not only language teaching, but student empowerment as well. I aim to help students realize and build their own agency, resulting in a self-actualized, relaxed, and engaged learning environment. Through this one-of-a-kind coaching method, success is having my students end each tutoring session feeling positive, and eventually ending tutoring sessions all together knowing that they are competent, intelligible, and composed speakers of the target language.
I have been an language instructor and coach since 2009 teaching children English in France through the TAPIF program. I have taught/coached undergraduates French at both the Ohio University (where I earned my BA and MA in French) and the University of Florida (where I am earning my PhD in Linguistics). Further, I have taught English as a Second Language at the University of Florida as well as Santa Fe College.
As a researcher, I have focused my life's work and dissertation on the topic of lowering Foreign Language Anxiety in foreign language learners. Foreign Language Anxiety is often cited as the number 1 correlation to achievement in acquiring the target language. Do you get nervous when you attempt to speak the language that you've learned? Are you scared what others are going to think of you? Do you have perfectionist tendencies? Well, helping you manage Foreign Language Anxiety while learning French would be exactly my skill set!
While I am a seasoned, SLAT (Second Language Acquisition and Teaching) certified instructor and am able to teach at the university level, tutoring is my true passion. I began tutoring in 2008 at Ohio University and I have not stopped since. My youngest tutee was 4 years old and my oldest tutee, who is still working with me, is 72 years old. I can cater to all ages, language levels, individual differences, objectives and goals, attitudes, and motivation levels. Send me a message with any questions that you have and we can chat and set some goals for your language learning journey.
I look forward to meeting you and helping you in any way possible in the world of French! Talk to you soon! :)

I can especially help students who are already studying French, but need additional assistance in mastering the grammar, pronunciation, and usage of the language.
I taught myself guitar at the age of thirteen, but took three years of lessons at Washington University, where I also studied English and French. As an adult I became interested in fingerstyle guitar in open tunings, especially DADGAD. I am, however, happy to teach in standard tuning--including basic guitar proficiency, classical guitar, and "folk" guitar.
I have played violin since I was eleven, taking lessons until the age of sixteen and playing in both high school orchestra and the local youth symphony. I later learned to sus
I have also studied voice, which again, however, I have never allowed to interfere with my performance of traditional songs--largely because I had developed a traditional approach to the singing of both American southern mountain repertory and traditional Irish song many years before receiving any formal instruction. This training, however, has given me greater insight into how to get the most out of your voice for almost any style.
I also taught myself to play lap dulcimer, basing my approach on the Eastern Kentucky styles associated with Jean Ritchie, Barbara Edwards, and Anne MacFie—that is, primarily using a small dowel stick or noter to sound the melody, and playing counter-melodies for song accompaniments.
My clawhammer banjo-playing is influenced by various Appalachian instrumentalists and accompanists (including Dock Boggs, Clarence Ashley, Hobart Smith, and Lily May Ledford), but my style is also influenced by years of playing with midwestern and southern-style fiddlers.
I welcome students ages 10 or above, and have learned to adapt my teaching style to the individual student, helping each one to make the most of his or her talents and enthusiasms, while emphasizing sound technique and good practice habits.

Take lessons with a native French speaker! I have experience working with children and adults from beginner level. I tend to follow a rather communicative teaching approach, motivating students to interact in real situations.
There’s nothing like the feeling of a good class, a class that was enjoyed by the teacher and the students, so I always try to create a bond between students so that classes are more customized. It also helps to develop confidence and promotes the use of French in the class. It doesn’t matter the topic and the focus of the lesson, humor, laughter and little jokes are a must in all classes to break the ice and to make the class more pleasant.
It’s always a rewarding experience meeting new students and learning about their customs. I am very fun and open to help my future students to speak when they have difficulties with the pronunciation. When I teach, I give all my best to make sure my students understand the material and improve themselves during the lessons. I speak clearly in ways that make the lesson clear. My goal is that everyone experience success. It includes me also, I succeed when my students do :).
Shall we meet?
Born and raised in Paris, I m actually teaching French and philosophy since 6 years ago. More than a work it’s a passion. I would be glad to help you to improve your french and knowledge about the french culture.

Hello my name is Myriam and I am French. I have had the privilege to teach my language for many years for all ages and levels. Through reading speaking and exercises I will endeavor to make it fun and comprehensive. My typical approach is a rather communicative one. I like to encourage students to speak and engage in real life situations. So we will not only get into the study of the language but will create scenarios to learn how to speak it.
On another note I'm not your typical teacher. I love to know my students who they are and what their interests are so that I am not just your teacher but also your friend. I can't wait to meet you and enjoy the journey together into becoming a French speaking individual!
My goal is to help you reach your fullest potential and get you excited to learn a new language. My teaching style includes connecting the language to your passions. Feel free to ask me more information!
