I've been teaching Basic Theory for 3 semesters as a school-employed tutor; my main focuses at the beginner level are: note reading, rhythms, scales and chord recognition, practical piano skills. Intermediate and Advanced levels: we can go anywhere you want to go with it, from Traditional harmonic analysis to advanced modernists topics like 12 tone serialism, modality, chance operations, etc.

Music Theory is such a fundamental part of being a musician. Whether you are a vocalist or instrumentalist, basic music theory skills are essential to functioning as a musician in understanding why music does what it does. So whether you are someone that want's to learn to better your instrument and your understanding of music, you would like to learn some basic composing skills, your a student in school that needs extra help, or you are just interesting in knowing more about music theory, I can help you build your music theory "tool kit" that you need to reach your goals.

My music theory lessons will include fundamentals, written theory, and aural training. Depending on the goal of the student, applied theory can be included as well. A textbook will be used.

Music lessons should be fun, encouraging and full of music that you love. They are an opportunity to learn something new, show your improvement, and receive correction, encouragement and praise. Students and instructors should play together frequently throughout and the time should be balanced with theory, technique and exercises, sight-reading, and performance and seasoned with introductions to a variety of music and styles. I like to encourage students to play because they love to play and to find the music that is an integral part of their soul, then to share that with others through performance.
