About Kathryn
Kathryn K - I am happy to be offering acting, vocal performance coaching sessions and speaking lessons with Take Lessons. I have worked with some outstanding artists through TL. You can pursue acting or singing if you want to! I am here to help you delve into your creativity in a supportive way.
Examples of the roles my actors have booked include, the Hulu hit, Chance, HBO's, Thirteen Reasons Why, Looking, Woody Allen's, Blue Jasmine, Touching Home, starring Ed Harris and Generations, to name a few. Theatrical productions including Theatreworks, Pride and Prejudice, Berkeley Repertory's, Hand to God, and there are many more in each of these categories and countless commercials. (Nationals and Regionals) and most have landed agents. They are all either in SAGAFTRA and Actors Equity or their way to becoming part of our performers unions.
I am also fortunate to work with screenwriters.
I strive to collaborate with my artists to make sure they are out working in the industry. And they are.
I work in the San Francisco Bay Area, LA and Online. I am available to travel. I offer artistic and industry assistance at no additional charge. When you study acting / singing performance w/ me you'll also learn about the BUSINESS OF SHOW BUSINESS.
We will work on technique, audition technique, monologues, scene work, as well study all aspects of acting and singing performance in order to prepare you for where you want to be as an artist.
Actors and Singers
Auditions!!
They are definitely the most difficult and nerve wracking part of being an actor or singer, right? Booking work means your audition has to be as good as opening night.
Auditioning is about preparation and preparation takes consistent support. Look, showbiz is not a business about being alone. Artists thrive when working together. We are a collaborative bunch and collaborating to make sure you're ready and organized for your auditions makes sense.
Stop trying to muscle through this necessary step alone. No one who works consistently does that! They ask for help. ASK FOR HELP!!
Solidify your acting choices so you don't have to worry about them the day before your audition. Know your prep so you can internally drop into it when the casting director says, "Whenever you're ready."
Have your music material and performance choices prepared ahead of time.
BE AHEAD OF SCHEDULE.
Work with me when your agent sends you your sides so you show up READY. Know your lines. It's OK if your struggling with memorization.
Let's figure out How YOU memorize.
Let me coach you for online audition submissions.
If we are working virtually I will coach while you are taping yourself to submit your online audition. It works!
Let me collaborate with on script analysis in order for you to you understand your material before you audition.
Take your work seriously so you bring your most intelligent and inspiring work to the audition rooms.
You'll be bringing the agents, casting directors, directors, producers and writers the inspiration they crave regarding their beloved projects. Do that and you're gonna book.
I know you can work and I can't wait to make it happen with you.

She inhabits a song and involves each member of the audience in its drama, joy or sorrow. There are performers for whom a performance is a night out. When Kathryn performs it’s a lifetime shared with us in a single evening. If you want to merely hear some tunes, there are many people who will do. If you want a real experience in music, there is Kathryn.
Kathryn's latest show is being created with director David Ford (Marsh Theatre) and Kevin Gerzevitz and her concerts features a who’s who list of world-renowned musicians: Gerzevitz and Grammy-Nominated Bassist, Michael Manring; Album of the Year Winner, Trumpeter, Jeff Oster; Master Percussionist, Joe Venegoni; Guitar Virtuoso, Tom Lattanand; Critically Acclaimed Pianist, Kelly Park; Celebrated Flutist, Barbara Else; and from the Steve Winwood Band, Brazilian-born Drummer, Celso Alberti.

Kathryn is an amazing teacher! I've been working with her for nearly a year now. At first I was hesitant doing classes online, but I don't regret taking the leap. I've definitely improved my acting skills in the months we've been working together; she gives great feedback and really cares about her students, not ONLY in the way of their acting skills. I highly recommend her to anyone who wants to get into acting. I started out knowing nothing and I can say 100% that what I know now is largely in part of Kathryn!

I always try and surround myself with people who give me confidence and make me better. Kathryn does both of those. She doesn't view you as a dollar sign but as an artist. She's the coach that sends you "Happy Birthday" and "Get Well Soon" texts because she genuinely cares.

I've been with her for over a year already and have no plans of stopping. Thank you so much, Kathryn. :)

I'm so lucky to have found Kathryn. I was looking for acting classes in my area and found this site and as if it was meant to be. She's an amazing person and coach. I am naturally a very shy person and this was scary for me but after my first session with her i knew this was right for me. Acting is harder than a thought but i am learning and it's getting easier and it's so much fun! She's cares very much for her students and wants them to be successful!! Thank you Kathryn!!!

I took a series of online creative writing lessons with Mrs. Taylor. She is one of the kindest and most intelligent persons I have worked with. She helped me find my writing style and patiently and carefully taught me about every aspect of creative writing. She told me not only about grammar and story structure, but also motivated and encouraged me to write a short story. From my first lesson with her, I knew that she is a gifted teacher, as she is knowledgeable and informed. Before taking lessons with her, I was writing in my journal, but now I have written my first piece. She provided meaningful and relevant ideas to help me find the flow of my story. Because of the excellent and exceptional way that she teaches, I have decided to continue with my creative writing.

About Colin
Hello there! My name is Colin and I am a bioengineering major and undergraduate researcher at UC Berkeley. I absolutely love math and science, and I really enjoy teaching others. Perhaps surprisingly, this has not always been the case. When I was in high school I thought I was simply not a "math person" and I really had only a passive interest in science.

When I decided I wanted to be an engineer, I knew that sooner or later I was going to have to face my archnemesis - math. Although the challenge that lay before me seemed arduous and possibly futile, I boldly began by teaching myself math from the elementary algebra level. I pored over various media until I found the concepts presented the way I needed to see them. Things were different for me this time, and math seemed to almost suddenly "click" for me. It was the way in which the i
nformation was presented that made all the difference in the world.

Now math, and also science, come fairly easy to me, and so I have experienced both sides of the coin - I know what it is like to suck terribly at a subject, and I also know what it's like to fully grasp the same exact concepts that once seemed so out of reach. When I aid others in learning new material, I make it my primary goal to first identify their unique way of learning and then use that information to lead the student to their own understanding of the material.

As a tutor, I think I get just as much joy out of watching concepts "click" for students as they do because it reminds of how great of a feeling it was when I first experienced the satisfaction of truly understanding concepts I consider to be complex.

My 3 daughters looked forward to Tutoring Nights with Colin!

I have 3 girls in High school (10th, 10th, and 9th) . they had been struggling in math since I can remember. I didn't think I could afford tutoring. They each had an 'F' in math.

I found Colin, and what a blessing! In just THREE short weeks Colin had my girls understanding HIS lessons, their CLASSROOM lessons and PASSING their exams! They brought their grades up too!

The best thing I can compare his tutoring to is: an adult teaching a kid to ride a bike...
He didn't expect them to just ride a bike. he took the proper steps and taught my girls about the bike parts, the way the bike functions, how they all work together, how to properly sit and pedal, and he even held them up until they understood it completely and eventually were able to ride the bike on their own.

Thank you Colin! for putting my girls back on track with math!

Allison and I worked on a screenplay together which won an award. The process by which that screenplay was written, is the interesting part. Allison shared many different ways that she uses to create the world of the story and then fill it with characters. She easily explains how interactions and dialogue can be elevated, in order to pull an audience member into the story. I have never seen such a unique and easy to follow writing style as Allison shared with me.

Enjoy creating with a true creator.
