About Clifford
****Dr Cliff requires that you contact him through the Ask-A-Question feature prior to booking lessons with him. Please be sure to provide him with the following:

-Location
-Age
-Subject
-Skill Level
-Goals
-Schedule request.

'Dr. Cliff,' a part-time college/university professor, teacher and tutor with 5 master's and 3 doctoral degrees in a variety of topics: Mathematics, Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, MBA, Leadership, Education and Administration. He has always used proven educational techniques to instruct undergraduate students, graduate students and school children/teenagers (K-12). In addition, Dr. Cliff is a Certified Tutor by American Tutoring Association and National Tutoring Association (Math); he holds California Teaching Credentials in Math (CSET I,II,III), Busin
ess (I,II,III), and Educational Technology/Computers (I,II); he is a Sylvan Certified Teacher in Math and Arts/Language K-12.

Dr. Cliff believes that, although many professors and teachers do an admirable job in the classroom, many students and children do not learn well in traditional institutions. Many students and children don't respond to the assembly line nature of most institutions. He believes that a student's or child's strengths and natural abilities need to be the foundation of learning. Dr. Cliff often warns against a "cookie cutter" approach to educating students, teenagers and children. You or your child is seen as an individual, and natural strengths are identified and built upon. Therefore, individual one-on-one tutoring or help is the key approach to each student who has any challenges difficulties in a given subject.

In today’s environment and economic challenges, with shorter budgets for the education, larger classes sizes and pressure of performing well in all kind of standard tests, I often see many students lacking true knowledge and skills in a given subject, since they cannot get individualized attention during the class session. That’s where a tutor comes into the picture, not only uncover major “holes” in students’ knowledge set but also teach students how to study, how to learn and through proper guidance “fill” those knowledge and skills holes.

I have been teaching English for nearly 10 years abroad and domestically. I am an international student myself in the past and my passion for English brought me here to the US. Currently, I teach at one of the biggest universities in San Diego introducing my most favorite language to students all over the world. I helped hundreds of students enter American universities and colleges and improve their academic skills. I enjoy teaching English, and I love creating fun and effective classes no matter which level of students I work with. If you feel frustrated about Grammar, IELTS, TOEFL or any other skills in English, I am here to make it very simple and enjoyable for you! :)

About Jay
Hi. My name is Jay, and I am from sunny San Diego. There are so many things I can tell you about myself but I will just say that I am a very active and goal oriented person. I love being disciplined and focused on everything I do whether it's going to the gym, running a marathon, teaching my students, etc. I believe that everything I do daily brings me closer to my ultimate goals. For this reason, I take self-development seriously. I love tutoring various students because it gives me a chance to meet many like-minded individuals who constantly want to work on themselves and get better. It is very rewarding for me to work hard and see my students grow and achieve their goals. A comfortable and friendly environment is the most important part of my teaching. If you are looking for someone who can motivate you to learn English and stay on tas
k, you found the right girl! :)

I look back upon that time as so important in the development of the person that I am today, Teacher Jay changed my whole aspect on my learning. She taught me more than I could have imagined, both about academics and about myself, I wouldn't be where I am today without her. I am so glad to have her in my life , without her I couldn't pass my Ielts Exam, and I have no doubt it was her help that made the difference. She has a strong background about Ielts, Tofel, and others, her techniques and strategy are amazing, she has an excellent resources. I never really believed that I could do well in Ielts, She opened my eyes to what I could be, what I could do in a way that I've never thought possible. Jay tough me meaningful things Such as make a smart decision, never be a fraid to make mistakes, give respect. She tought me that I could achieve more than what I or other people thought that I was capable of. I still remember one lesson where she told me about her hopes for her future, she also told me about her successes, and for some reason, it all resonated with me, and I started to relize that anything really is possible. we became friends and we still keep in touch.
To teacher Jay:
Thank you for staying behind to help me, even I know there are lots of other places you'd rather be.
Thank you for explaining things until I understand.
Thank you for being my teacher and my friend.
Thank you for your kidness and respect.
Thank you isn't really enough to express my gratitude to you.

I learned a lot from Jay’s classes, she helped me with all the linguistic difficulties that any student who doesn’t speak the English Language as thier native language may face. She understand the linguistic barriers of the the non-native English speakers and she knows how to deal with them. The best part of her way of teaching is how she gradually and smoothly moves the ESL students from a basic English level to a higher one!! Challenging the students to give thier best and more for learning purposes is really difficult specially when teaching students from all over the world with huge cultural differences but it is not difficult for a Skilled teacher as Jay!!

My background as a teacher of ESL is extensive. I taught technical English to engineering students at the university (MEPhI) for 8 years. Additionally I have been preparing Russian students for the English State Exam at school and adults for business and private trips to English speaking countries.
As a philologist I am able to pinpoint individual issues and difficulties to help correct problems in language acquisition.

About Tatiana
I am a former German professor from Russia who currently lives in America and tutors full time now Russian and German.

I provide a variety of activities for my lessons so you will never get bored. For example, I will use games, interactive conversational lessons, fun warm up tasks, case studies, and even riddles. We will use authentic materials as well. You will learn conversational skills, formal writing skills, and test taking strategies all in a fun manner.

I have a background as as an experienced lecturer, teacher, and tutor in the field of linguistics (general linguistics, history of linguistics, psycolinguistics, social linguistics, gender studies). Since defending my dissertation, I have continued to do research in gender studies in the field of virtual communication and digital text, especially non-verbal communication, soci
al networks and gender-specific communication. However, I have found that my true passion is helping students in one-on-one lessons.

This year I decided to make a change in the way my daughter practices the Polish language...traditionally she had been going to a “Polish school”. She was in a class size of 20kids and I was concerned she was not getting the verbal practice that she needed. So this school year I decided to think outside the box and hire Joanna. We just finished our first lesson and I know we made the right choice!
My daughter is actually excited to learn polish outside the traditional “Polish school” classroom now. ;)
Joanna assessed her level by playing a quick game of “what do you see in this picture” making it as enjoyable as possible to assess her level.
We are both happy to have Joanna and look forward to more sessions.

I have 20 years experience teaching English as a Second Language classes at adult schools, with a California State Professional Credential since 1995. I am always warm, friendly, flexible and fun!

I have tons of materials we can use, games, pictures, conversations, reading, grammar lessons, and more! I will adapt materials and teaching to your best learning style. You are unique and you deserve to learn in your way!

You will always have exercises and projects to practice during the week so you can maintain and retain what you learn with me.

About Caroline
I have been a teacher in the Los Angeles area since 1995. Born in California, I moved to Washington as a child, but returned here to the Golden State to go to Occidental College in Los Angeles. I moved to Long Beach in 2002, where I opened my own ESL program in 2011, through our church community center.

As a native Californian, I love our diverse and energetic state, and especially the international vibe of Southern California. My husband's family is Japanese, but my whole family speaks Spanish, and we make tamales and pozole for Christmas! I also love languages and translation, so teaching English naturally became my profession.

Teaching is my joy and delight. In more than 20 years of teaching, with thousands of students passing through my classroom, I honestly know that everyone can learn English. I work hard to plan lessons, create
my own projects and exercises to fit my students, and to constantly improve the quality of my curriculum and skills. For this reason, I use many different activities and styles of teaching in a single lesson. In one hour you might practice conversation, play a vocabulary game, write paragraphs, do dictation, practice speaking on the phone, and more.

Learning a language is an adventure, and it should never, ever be boring. It's a challenge, but one of the most exciting you'll ever experience.
