Have a specific project in mind, or just want to pick up a new skill? Beginner level students will learn basic sewing stitches, both by hand and machine, as well as basic information on how to select fabric for a project. Beginner level projects will be selected from a variety of pre-selected patterns, such as bags, pillows, aprons and stuffed toys. More advanced students will learn to modify patterns, and eventually create their own, as well as learning higher level finishing techniques and how to work with more challenging materials. A sewing machine can be provided for the student during on site lessons. Materials fee may apply.

About Molly
Raised in New York city, I attended Stuyvesant High School, the jewel in the crown of the NYC public school system. Traditional academic achievement was not enough for me however, and I went on to study fashion design, honing my artistic skills at Drexel University. Call me a renaissance woman or a Jill-of-All-Trades, I've been employed in fashion houses, graphic design firms and visual effects shops. I've also made my way freelancing as a photographer, web designer, and writer. In addition to this variety of creative skills, I have a Bachelors in Business Administration, and training in Quickbooks. I recently scored a perfect 170 on the GRE verbal, and obtained admission into several competitive doctoral programs in Clinical Psychology.

I realize it is not enough to merely have skills or intelligence in order to be a tutor. One must
be able to convey them to the student in a way that is effective and (hopefully) enjoyable. From the helping students prepare a portfolio for undergraduate admission, to teaching the basics of essay writing, I have a warm attentive attitude that sets students of all ages at ease. My teaching style is focused on the learning style of the person I am working with, tailoring the exercises to help achieve specific goals.

Molly was understanding in scheduling conflicts and worked with me so we could get our lessons done. She made sure that I understood each thing that we went over and gave me homework that helped me get some practice in that I needed. I made a blanket for my sister who just had a baby and it is a wonderful keepsake!

Thanks Molly!

I love to sew and greatly enjoy teaching the craft. I have been sewing since I was 7 years old, when I was taught by my Grandmother. A FIDM Fashion Design graduate, I worked in the garment industry as a pattern maker and junior dress designer. I then went on to work for 14 years in the Motion Picture industry in costume design and stylist work.

I enjoy working with children, guiding them to use their creativity in the process of sewing. Lessons can be tailored to the students needs, from learning how to use the sewing machine to the best way to approach sewing different fabrics and patterns. From fashion to interior design, I am happy to guide you to a finished product.

About Renee
I grew up in Los Angeles surrounded by a family of artists and designers. Following my career in fashion and costume design, I began making one of a kind silver jewelry. I have been working with fine silver for 8 years, selling my design pieces in art galleries and online.
I have always tried to share my passion for all things artistic with my two children. By volunteering to run art projects at their school, I discovered the joy of teaching. I decided to combine that with my sewing expertise to help children and adults realize their creative vision. I like helping students explore their ideas while making a project come to life on the sewing machine.

My expertise in sewing always inspires creativity and passion within students, and the ease with which i guide them to explore their own creativity bring fun to the lessons. Having over 25 years of custom couture tailoring and teaching has given me a vast experience in order for me to equip any student with the requisite knowledge needed to tackle any sewing project.

About Kodjo
Most people simply call me Joe. I have a bachelors in Fine Art, an MBA and been making clothes for my clients for over 25 years. I taught many people sewing and they've gone ahead to tackle various projects on their own to their own disbelief. Creativity comes to me naturally and with a background in figure drawing and painting, my knowledge of anatomy of the human figure helps a lot in translating it into designs for all figure types and sizes. I have handled many interior design projects also, so all these experiences equip me with immense knowledge to transfer to those who want to learn all about sewing, whether as a beginner, an intermediary or advanced student.
