I have devoted much of my life to music, and through MY decades’ worth of study in the jazz vernacular and wide knowledge of music from the past hundred years, hopes to be able to impart this same enthusiasm to his listeners and students.

I am a guitarist and composer from Seattle Washington. Beginning in 1995 I studied with Seattle musicians such as John Hanberry, Ev Stern and Milo Peterson. I have led and co-lead a number of different groups in Seattle performing at local clubs, weddings and bars ranging in styles including jazz, funk, swing and old time string music. Most notably I hosted the local Thursday night jazz jam session (2015-2017) and played double bass for the ‘20s jazz and Appalachian fiddle music band Porterbelly (2012-2020). In 2020, I moved to New York City to study at NYU.

Music is a joy to hear, to sing, and to play. Of all the instruments to choose from, piano is a fantastic option. It's beautiful both as an incredible, rich solo instrument and accompaniment, blending with other instruments through chords or melody.

No matter your age, ability or taste in genre, you can learn to love playing. It brings Jane pleasure to help you along the way.

While theory is certainly an important part of music, Jane's aim is to get you up and running so you can play what you want to hear. As a student, your job will be to practice what you have learned, and most importantly, to have fun gaining competency as a musician.

About Jane

If you love music, I can help you learn to play it. even compose it!

"I was very shy was I started piano lessons with Ms. Charlene. Over the years, the musical skills I learned transformed me to a confident person who enjoys playing in front of an audience. At 10th grade, Ms. Charlene encouraged me to take the Advanced level Panel CM competition. That was a memorable experience! "I've been with Mikaela for the past 2 to 3 years, and she's been a wonderful instructor since. I started learning with her after playing the clarinet for about 3 years already- my skills on the clarinet have definitely improved tremendously, and the lessons have given me an edge in all my musical experiences. In addition to being a skillful clarinetist and teacher, she's also very supportive, caring, flexible schedule-wise, and has helped me grow my love for playing and music in general. She has encouraged me to step out of my comfort zone and try new, scary things (auditions, competitions, etc) that have definitely helped me grow as a musician and a person. I would definitely recommend her to anyone looking for a boost in skill, a great teacher, and a wonderful experience. :)"

I started teaching myself to play the guitar at the age of 14. The book that I used to teach myself featured photos of a 7-year-old girl demonstrating how each chord was to be played. The author of the book told the readers that he had this youn …
