I have been seeing Jeff for about 3 years. I was an old folkie - with no time to practice - for about 50 years, but finally my wife bought me some lessons when I retired. Hit it off with Jeff immediately. He really knows the music I want - which in my case is classic rock - but he can do pretty much anything you need. Still give him 5 stars!

I immediately felt at ease with Jeff and it did not take him long to figure me out and point me in the right direction. Looking forward to many more lessons with him. I wish I lived here so it could be on a more regular basis. But happy with what I CAN get. Thanks Jeff!

My Aunty is turning 80 this weekend and I decided to learn how to play Happy Birthday on the ukulele as a surprise for her. Jeff not only helped me accomplish my goal but also got me started on other songs as well. His patience and enthusiastic personality made the lessons not ony productive but personable as well!!! 2 thumbs up to an awesome instructor!!!!!

Lee Quick has been an exceptional online bassoon instructor for our 15 year old from middle school into high school. We have had experience with face to face lessons with two other highly regarded private instructors and, in comparison, the online lessons with Lee have been consistently enjoyable and a highlight of the week for our daughter. Lee provided very helpful hints and tips for perfecting performances with the school orchestra the regional youth orchestra. Lee also helped our daughter sustain her interest and skill on the instrument by providing music and suggestions for exercises and continued development when she was not formally involved in any performance programs. Highly recommended.

Bass guitar was one of those things I had a passion about for many years before I took it up. When I finally did, I explored the techniques of many of the great players like Victor Wooten and Jaco Pastorius. I have performed in several bands as the bassist, but I've most enjoyed studying it as a solo instrument while writing my own pieces and learning songs of great artists like Larry Graham and John Mayer.

I typically play a 6 string bass but I'm happy to teach any type of bass from a 4 to 11 string instrument. I love teaching improvisation and special right hand techniques, so whatever path you want to go down I bet I can help you.

About Jonathan

I studied music therapy and music theory at Temple University from '06-'10. Learned a lot. Then again, I learned even more teaching at a school for kids with learning disabilities and working as a traveling street performer. Jonathan is incredibly skilled, a great teacher, fun, and very patient with our gregarious and somewhat distracted 9-year old boy. He has creative, tailored teaching techniques, will try new things, but also keeps our son motivated and progressing. He responds perfectly and patiently to my son when he veers off task, and gets him back on task. We are absolutely thrilled and couldn't have found a better teacher.

My son has special needs related to an anoxic brain injury. This can create frustration with simple things like learning a new chord that feels funny or is difficult to move your fingers to. He always checks in with us to see what concerns we have and then, helps us by offering suggestions on how to make something easier or less frustrating to learn. I think Jonathan does a good job of meeting us where we are. Jonathan is patient with both of us. Today, he talked to my son about practicing communicating so we can understand how to help him learn. He talked to me about it being ok to break away from the timing and to hit chords at the same time as my son so the song can come together.

Jonathan is flexible and easy to work with. My son has some struggles as a result of an anoxic brain injury. Jonathan is very understanding and patient with my son. He has also helped me with advice and suggestions on how to work with my son. We love the spirit of the ukulele and the good vibes it has.

Bass guitar students start with five subjects.

1) Technique is concerned with the development of the physical mechanics involved in playing the instrument.

2) Scales are part of the basic vocabulary and building blocks of the musical language.

3) Intervals are also basic vocabulary of the musical language and progress into chords, and yes, bass players think and play chords.

4) Note reading is not required for every student. It really depends on the student's goals. However, I strongly encourage learning to read musical notation, (more than tablature). Literacy in reading music is analogous to literacy in reading in our English language. Can you imagine how much smaller our world would be if we couldn't read?

5) Songs utilize the skills and concepts of all the previously mentioned subjects and are the goal of studying music. And by the way, they are really fun to play, especially when interacting with other musicians or performing for an audience.

These five ...

"At 61 years old I wanted a challenge, and that was to learn how to play the bass guitar. Having had absolutely no previous training, and being quite terrified, James gave me the confidence that this was possible to achieve.

His knowledge to teach a simple approach in the theory of music, his patience, and ability to instruct in a way that makes sense, made learning exciting for me.

Highly recommend him to anyone who is interested in going beyond what they think they're capable of in a caring one on one environment. :)"

"I've been working with David for a couple of months, and it has been a great experience. I'm new to bass, with a little guitar experience--he quickly sized up what I knew and had me working on exercises and a great bass line that got me playing right away. He has been very flexible and accommodating of my schedule needs, and he gives plenty of positive and constructive feedback. I've been working in education for nearly 30 years, and I know a great teacher when I see one. David fits the bill, and I'm lucky to be working with him."

"I met Jesse as a fellow musician when starting a band. Though I could PLAY bass, I didn't have the knowledge to apply theory and other tools to improve my playing and speed up my learning. Jesse started teaching me how the fretboard works (other than just numbers), keys, and the corresponding modal scales, and even technique for playing better. At first I was confused and impressed by this new world, but his ability to break down each element, and apply it to your personal learning style is really beneficial to any player. He's helped transition from playing bass like a rhythm guitar to playing bass like the instrument it should be, and opened me up to many opportunities to play with his other students as well. Definitely the teacher to check out if you want to improve your playing, and know you have the drive. He will call you on it, if you haven't been practicing!"

"Noga is all-around the best musical instructor I have ever had. What makes her lessons special is her passion for teaching and for music. She motivated me to challenge myself on the bass both through her creative exercises and supportive charisma. On top of that, Noga is a true master of the bass guitar. She has an immediately recognizable groove that you can hear whenever she plays, and her skill is incredibly wide-ranging. Our lessons have touched on driving rock, jazz walking bass, and ambient soundscapes to name a few, and she is very open to delve into new musical territory together if you have any questions on how to achieve a certain sound. Every lesson with her will have a great impact on your playing."
