About Denise

I'€ve always had a love for music. When I was 8 years old, I taught myself how to read music before my first piano lesson because I was so excited to learn. I continued taking piano lessons throughout my school days and became involved in choir in high school. When I began college I decided

I can help you play by ear, as well as read music. Really, they both help each other out.

Typically lessons start with a warm-up or exercise, which usually relates to a concept in the songs or pieces we study in the lesson. Lessons can vary based on student goals and approach. For example, an advanced classical lesson might target specific spots in larger pieces, while a jazz/pop lesson might deal with hand positioning for chords and ear training. In a beginning lesson, we focus on either finding patterns on the piano that are used in most chord progressions or melodies, or music literacy, depending on the student's preference.

About Matt

I am a professional singer who has proficiencies in piano, organ, choral directing, musical analysis, and ear training/playing by ear. I currently teach college non-majors, and specialize in teaching adult beginning students.

Just starting lessons with Matt, but he seems very to have great knowledge about how to teach students to grow in their vocal skills. He is very enthusiastic and positive, but honest in his assessment of skills which is important to vocalists who truly WANT to improve their skills. The initial lesson experiences have been really beneficial. Looking forward to continuing lessons with Matt!

"For almost a year, Sarah has been my piano teacher. She is encouraging, patient, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic about my improvement. She never rushes a lesson and always takes the time to fully answer any questions I have. I have recommended her to several of my friends and co-workers, and I will continue to do so. Having a teacher who is just as pleased with my accomplishments as I am is refreshing and appreciated. If you are looking for someone to encourage you and teach you, look no further than Sarah!"
