Tutoring in beginner to intermediate German. Focus on conversation.

About Trevor
Every musician was first and foremost a fan of music. My love of
music began when my mother took me to a performance of Beethoven's
fifth symphony when, coincidentally, I was five. From that point, I
started fervently listening to my mother's records (those are the
huge, black monstrosities that people in the pre-historic used in
place of iPods), followed closely by my father's CD collection.
After a while, this ravenous desire of to know and feel music moved
me to play an instrument. After a couple of false starts with the
drums and violin, I found my true musical calling: the guitar.

On January 25th 1995, on a whim, I began playing the
guitar, and I have yet to put it down. Along the way I've picked up
a number of friends for my guitar, including the bass, the lute, the
sitar and, once again, the drums. After on
ly a few years of
practice, I started playing professionally, in bands and solo guitar.
Live playing experience, I believe, is the most important experience
that any musician can have, in that, the most important part of music
is how it sounds, and playing in front of people is the quickest way
to learn how to play effectively. And this is what I teach; how to
be a musician, not just a technician.

*** Lesson Details ***
A student can expect a curriculum tailor-made to their needs and personality. Every person learns differently and this is an important distinction in my teaching style. Some students need a strong hand to keep them working, others need to find many different ways to the same conclusion to keep them focused, while still others need a laid-back friend in order to accept knowledge.

I stress rhythmic literacy, for, as my jazz teacher always said, "rhythm is king." If composition is important to you, then we'll focus on music theory, but if you're just wanting to learn how to play some fun rock tunes with your friends on the weekends, we can do that as well. As I stated before, we'll get you playing in front of people in no time.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I provide an amplifier, a loner guitar (if needed), staff and/or tablature paper, metronome, pens and paper for the lessons.

*** Specialties ***
Music theory and composition, guitar, bass, lute, beginner to intermediate piano
Classical, shred, blues, and rock guitar; renaissance lute; blues, rock and slap bass; composition of many styles; world music.

The past five months spent with Henry teaching me my second language has been worthwhile. My decision to choose him as my instructor has paid off exponentially. He immediately immerses you in the language and steadily increases your exposure as you gain proficiency. This is exactly what I was looking for in a teacher, someone to push and challenge me to learn but also there when I was having difficulty.

As someone who has zero experience with the German language he definitely provided the firm foundation I needed to confidently continue my studies alone. I have no doubt when the time comes for more lessons I will revert back to Henry.

Er ist ein sehr guter Lehrer!

Wonderful online german classes. A lot of fun, and well prepared. Yana has an easy going teaching style, and is fun to chat to. She sets ample homework as requested. We often review material from previous lessons to ensure concepts, grammar and vocab have been learnt. Also Yana gives some great resources to help learn the language.

I am very happy with the Russian lessons I`ve had via Skype with my tutor Yana.
Each lesson she introduces a new topic in a well-planned way with the appropriate vocabulary and with special emphasis on pronunciation.
The lessons are very much as I requested and are proceeding at a pace commensurate with my ability to assimilate the content.
The lessons have been very instructive, at the same time relaxed & fun, so that I have no hesitation in recommending Yana as a Russian tutor.

I have taken lessons with Ronald since I was 6, I am now 23. In my 17 years of taking lessons I have learned to play piano, sing and am proficient in music theory. In the more recent years I have even had the opportunity to teach music through Ronald. Throughout the years, I have experienced and witnessed the patience and kindness Ronald consistently shows his students. He encourages his students to become better and shares in their enthusiasm due to their accomplishments. Ronald genuinely cares about his students and is dedicated to making sure his students improve. I fully recommend Ronald for students who have parents who want to be involved in the learning process and especially for young children who are just starting out. Ronald works well with families, includes parents every step of the way and is very patient with young students helping them learn in an open and encouraging environment.

Mr.Chaz is really dedicated to his profession. He started to teach my seven year old son over one year ago and he has motivated him to sing his best and he started piano with him last year which has been a phenomenal experience for my son. Chaz really focuses on the detail, theory and groundwork necessary to excel in music. If you are lucky enough to get your child started with him you will never regret the experience. He is simply the best! My son sings all the time now and loves to play piano. I am so happy for my son to have found someone to expand on his talents!

Born and raised in Germany, the German language is my native one. I will tailor my lessons to the individual needs of the student, and teach everything from casual conversation to in-depth grammar.

About Andrea
I was born and raised in Germany where I spent most of my life. As long as I can think I've always loved music, and soon after I got my first guitar at the age of 13 I started to write songs. I moved to the US in 2011 and worked as a music director for a local non denominational church for the last 6 years, working with and leading bands, playing acoustic and electric guitar as well as bass. Before I moved to Santa Barbara I travelled throughout Europe to play concerts and I published 2 CDs with original songs. You can find my music on iTunes.

I've been speaking and learning German for 7 years. Learning another language from someone who is a native English speaker like you and I is very helpful, as I know all of the challenges a new learner encounters. I place a strong emphasis on learning how to read and write alongside learning to speak German while having fun.

About Madeleine
Hello, my name is Maddie. I'm a student at Hamline University in Minnesota, and I'm getting a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Creative Writing with an English minor. English, and writing in particular, is my passion, so I do some freelance writing in my spare time. I've also written poetry and other fiction pieces under different pseudonyms across various websites.

Not only am I passionate about writing, but I also love working on my second language, German. I've been speaking and learning German for 7 years, and have always enjoyed the challenge it provides. It really is a beautiful language that deserves to be learned and appreciated. Learning German is especially helpful for those who hope to go into engineering.

I've peer tutored since middle school, through high school, all the way up to my time in college, and I look forward to tutoring
new students.
