I’ve been a professional voice actor for decades and have taught those skills for over 30 years, privately as well as at such institutions as the University of California, Saddleback College, Irvine Valley College, The Performer’s Academy and The Orange County School of the Arts. Additionally, I have been a keynote speaker and presenter at numerous voice over conferences, including VOICE 2008, 2010, 2012, and 2014.
I teach the basics required to become a voice over actor, which include microphone technique, vocal warm-ups & techniques, script interpretation & breakdown, and timing in all genres - commercial, narration, and characters. I also give tips on marketing, identity, auditioning, demos, online casting, & home studio recording. For more advanced students,
I personalize the lessons to suit the needs of each individual. I’m honest, friendly, patient, and kind. :-)

Carolyn is an incredible teacher and a fantastic role model. Her encouragement, patience, skill and attention to detail has resulted in my daughter having learned (and continuing to learn) more than we could have ever imagined musically (voice/piano), and about performing on stage. Being Carolyn's student has also resulted in our daughter having more self confidence and higher self esteem. Carolyn brings out the best in her students and the dedication that she has for them is unparalleled. It has been a joy to watch our daughter grow as a musician under Carolyn's instruction.

I have been in the acting profession for 35 years - primarily Classical Stage and Voice-Over acting. I have taught on many levels and for different ages including workshops for high school students and university level conservatory programs. I have also taught adults in both Shakespeare and group Voice-over classes (at a Professional Studio). I love what I do and love teaching it to others.

At present, I create, preformed and produced my own audio work and have found that it is incredibly beneficial to learn something new or invest time in a subject or skill that you are interested in.

About Corliss

I am an actress that has performed and taught for over 35 years. I love it! I can help you prepare for auditions, study structure, develop skills, get over fears of speaking in public or simply reach a deeper understanding of your favorite texts. As for teaching voice-acting for voice-overs, I

I initially had Corliss as a voice over teacher in a class, then decided to further my work with her as a coach and producer to create my voiceover demos. We covered all aspects of voiceover, including the physical: posture, microphone placement, etc., which I believe really enhanced my understanding of how physicality comes across via the voice. With her classical acting background, she was able to help me improve my overall speaking technique and provided me with vocal exercises to help minimize my regionalisms.

She was diligent in reviewing competitive demos to guide me to a variety of written copy and voice/energy levels that will help my demos stand up to those with more experience. She provided valuable advice regarding selection and use of materials for the demo and beyond as well as insights on the voiceover business.

I’m very pleased with the results of the two demos and expect to continue to take advantage of her coaching services as I grow in my new career.

Corliss is a master at her craft! She makes you feel comfortable from the moment you meet her and has a genuine interest in your goals. Corliss tailored lessons to my learning style which was very encouraging for someone with my level of experience. She has a lovely personality and her enthusiasm is infectious. I would highly recommend taking lessons from Corliss!
Steve
I took a five-session Beginning Voice Acting class with Corliss in a professional recording studio. The critiques she gave me after every recording I made helped me to speak more clearly, and to increase the energy I was able to put into my recorded presentations. Without the critiques of my recordings, I would not have been able to improve my speaking ability. During the class, she made sure everyone in the class was made to feel welcome, and important. When I take the next level of the Voice Acting class series, I will be looking forward her critiques of my recorded presentations.

I’ve been going to Fawn for about 2 years, and I went from being someone who thought I couldn’t sing at all to being able to sing whistle notes and opera. Most importantly, Fawn has taught me the foundation of proper vocal technique, placement and breath support, which has helped develop my voice so that I can tackle practically any song in any style, with zero damage to my voice. I keep soaring to new heights with Fawn, and owe it all to her expertise and ability to teach with stellar results!

Fawn is the real deal. I've only just started with her, but already I'm super excited and learning so much.

My son started taking lessons with Fawn in June of 2018. Each lesson has been amazing as Fawn takes a lot of effort and spends time in teaching her the right techniques in order to have a strong foundation. I have witnessed my son's voice transform tremendously with the guidance and help of Fawn’s efforts and it has been such a blessing. Fawn also enforces the importance of learning the right way and practicing which has helped my son get into a good routine and gain immense confidence in himself. I would recommend Fawn as a vocal coach to all aspiring singers because she invests a lot of time, care and expertise into her students to ensure they learn, do well and are successful.

"My 16 year old daughter has been taking online lessons with Kelsey for 2 months now and it is all she talks about!!! She adores and respects Kelsey as a person, a teacher and a career coach. Her confidence level is increasing and this in itself makes me thrilled to have made this inverstment in her. Therapy sessions are great, however, when you are able to find a coach and instructor that helps your child find their inner confidence and heart song through something they love, well, there is nothing better than that! Thank you, Kelsey! As we all know, it is not just knowing how to do it or even doing it - execution style is everything and you have sincerely won my daughter’s heart!"

Introduction to Voice Acting: Books & Resources to Check Out

When it comes to the performing arts, voice acting attracts some of the most fiercely dedicated enthusiasts, despite the relative anonymity compared to acting on stage or on screen. In the old days, radio dramas were the most common inspiration for aspiring voice actors. Today, it’s animation. The key component of voice acting, even more than secrecy and seclusion, is versatility. An in-demand voice actor may be called upon to provide the pipes for a cartoon rabbit in a kid's show on Friday, …
