Learn guitar or bass from the comfort of your home with a fun and experienced musician with over 10 years of playing and 3 years of teaching experience.

I'm happy to work with anyone, anywhere, and any age. Especially those who are brand new to guitar or bass! Lessons are much more effective if you practice in between sessions and maintain a positive attitude towards learning.

I love classic rock, reggae, funk, metal, blues, jazz, and anything with a groovin bass line or some jammin guitar.

Let's learn some Sublime, Chilli Peppers, Zeppelin, Hendrix, Pink Floyd, or really anything else you want. I look forward to meeting and working with you!

Guitar In The Modern Context -

Various lessons available focused on the guitar as an extension of the player. Emphasis on tone and style, over technique - it's not how many notes you can play, it's what you do with them.

About Richard
I can't wait to work with you! I am passionate about the subjects I teach, and find nothing can compare to seeing a student "get it", so they may too enjoy the passion that comes from learning and doing something they love.

Everything I teach I've learned most completely by doing as a Professional, and find great reward in sharing my experience and knowledge with my students.

When the "aha" light goes on, it's truly a wonderful moment for me, and encourages me to drive my students to build towards more of those moments as students, and then ultimately, for themselves as they learn to grow for themselves.

Each lesson is designed on the level of the student's ability from beginner to advanced. Rock, R&B, funk, jazz, blues, POP and country music. I like to use song learning as a vehicle to sharpen your skills. Learning skills through songs is more fun for beginners. More advanced students will work on everything from theory, reading, harmony; and how you can use scales and arpeggios in a number of ways over several different styles of music.

About Stephen
~ Customized Lesson Plan for You. ~

Learning the guitar is a fun, yet, challenging experience. Having an instructor guide you through the process makes learning easier and more efficient. The internet provides a wealth of information but can not interact with you and help your specific needs. Many guitar players get frustrated and give up. Getting the encouragement and expertise of an instructor who has been there before greatly enhances chances of success.

My style of teaching is founded on fun with the instrument and guiding students to real music situations. Many students come to me with an incomplete set of skills. These (self taught) players have several basic fundamental holes in their playing.

It is also important to me that students have a basic knowledge of music theory. This way, they can enjoy the guitar for th
e rest of their life. If you just learn to put your hands in a certain place to play a certain song, you are missing out. If you learn what it is your actually doing, you can apply it. This may be the most important benefit of a private instructor.

What You Will Learn:

Beginning Students:
In my experience, over several years, I find most beginners are surprised the guitar is so hard to play. Having an instructor to help you past that frustration will lead to a lifelong enjoyment of your guitar in the songs you love.
- Learning the basic chords.
- How to move from chord to chord smoothly.
- Using these chords to play your favorite songs.
- Understanding guitar notation (tabs, chord grids, song books, standard notation).
This way, the skills you learn will last a life time!

Intermediate/ Advanced Students:
This is for the hungry players. You will be given the direction to achieve a high level of musicianship. You will be challenged to reach your full potential.
- Technique drills
- Scale knowledge
- Advanced chords
- Improvisation tips
- Chop Building
- Theory
- Reading
- Composition

Experience & Background:

I've teaching and performing professionally for 23 years.
- One year OCHSA jazz combo.
- 15 years performing music clubs, casuals as a solo performer and in a jazz trio.
- 23 years teaching individuals and groups.
- 11 years as Irvine and Laguna YAMAHA Music school instructor.

I've studied with some of the top teachers in California:
- Jim Fagen (classical guitar)
- Erik Halbig (rock, jazz & country)
- Jim Witzel (head of jazz guitar at CSUSF)
- Ron Eshcete (jazz guitar)
- Carl Verheyen (everything).

Stephen is a brilliant and experienced guitar instructor. My wife signed me up the electric guitar lesson with Stephen after my retirement about a year ago. I told him that I had no music background and just wanted to be able to play the 70’s songs I like. The lesson plan is based on my level and my goal. I started the fundamentals and now I can play most my favorite 70’s songs. I enjoy every lesson with him. What I learn in one hour class can fill out the rest of the week. Thank you for making my retired life so meaningful. “It’s never too old to play guitar! “ I would highly recommend Stephen to anyone who wants to learn to play the guitar!

Amazing guitar learning experience with Stephen!!!
Stephen is a very knowledgeable and professional music instructor. I have been taking lesson at his studio for about 8 months. I go there once a week for my 45 min class and practice 15 min every other days at home. Now I can play the musics I like. Also, during the lesson, he always put the me in the live band situation so I can react to the beats and rhythm from different instruments. Fun!!!!!!!!!

Hi! My name is Donnie and I can't wait to meet you! I've been teaching private lessons for several years and have loved helping my students, Kevin, Andrew, and Avery (all of whom have left 5-star reviews) reach their goals! I strive to not only give my students exercises and riffs to learn, but to teach them the reasoning and Music Theory behind those notes and chords.

My teaching style is committed to showing you "how" to learn and not just throwing various songs, scales, and techniques at you. I will be firm and provide you with the accountability yo
u need to move forward.

My favorite artists (many of whom have songs that are taught as part of my curriculum) are The Beatles, Metallica, Santana, Stevie Ray Vaghan, Nirvana, Green Day, Johnny Cash, The Eagles, Avenged Sevenfold, and many more!

Additionally, in 2017 I was given Takelesson's "Student Favorite" award. This means that I have consistently ranked in the top 15% of Takelessons teachers based upon reviews, number of students, and student retention!

Guitar has been a love of mine since I was 9 years old and I enjoy helping other people realize their full potential! I have training in standard notation and tablature, and I am equipped with the resources necessary to get you going quickly!

I graduated from Liberty University this year with a Bachelors in Business Administration degree. Each week, I teach around 25-30 students! I am looking forward to helping you reach your goals!

I am truly passionate about your success in becoming the best guitar player you choose to be! I like to teach with repetition (wax on wax off) and prefer to present the big picture first so that every obstacle may potentially never be an obstacle for you. I take years of teaching experience and what have been topics of frustration brought to me from students in the past... I try to smooth the road and teach you so you get the highest yield of success for your money with as little headaches as possible :) for example: I begin with bar chords not folk chords. I would LOVE to have the opportunity to explain "WHY" and show you how great you can be in WAY less time than a traditionalist guitar teacher would get you...

About Greg

Axe wielders unite! I have been playing electric guitar for the past 17 years in a variety of styles ranging from classic rock to jazz.

About Jeff
I am a professional guitarist and songwriter for one of the most renowned San Diego live bands. I have been teaching lessons for the last seven years and have performed professionally for 12. I currently have around 30 students at a local music school and play live several times a week.

Guitar students can expect to improve from week to week, with an ever growing understanding and appreciation for music. My teaching experience allows me to be aware of how students improve their playing with an emphasis on consistent progression and smart milestones that give students a feeling of accomplishment that minimizes frustration.

I tailor my lessons to the students skill level/interests. If you just want to have some fun learning to play chords, THAT’S OK! If you want to delve deeper into diatonic harmony, half diminished chords, and modal in
terchange, then let’s get down on it!

Some of the styles I regularly teach: Rock, Blues, Indie, Folk Alternative, Jazz, Raggae, R&B, Country

I teach lessons to all ages.

If any of this sounds interesting to you, don’t be shy! Send me a message, because I can’t wait to help you become a better musician!
