I teach lessons in my private studio, and give lessons around the world/across the US by Skype and Face Time. I provide free supplementary videos to aid practicing between lessons. These are sent privately. I have a You Tube channel with 5300 subscribers and growing, with over 2000 videos. My blog, Journal of a Piano Teacher from New York to California includes aids for students studying various periods of piano repertoire.

About Shirley
I'm a very experienced piano teacher and performer. I graduated the New York City High School of Performing Arts; Oberlin Conservatory of Music: Bachelor of Music-Piano, Performance, and I have a Master of Arts Degree from New York University. I'm a member in good standing of the Music Teachers Association of California since 1981. In 2010 I began teaching by webcam over Skype and Face Time, and presented at the State Convention of the Music Teachers Association of California (MTAC), July, 2016 (Los Angeles. CA) on the subject of Braving the Hi-Tech universe: teaching piano Online.

Over my decades long teaching career, I've mentored students of all ages and levels, from beginners to advanced, and I've presented many workshops on how to teach piano in creative ways. My teaching-related publications have appeared in the Piano Quar
terly and the California Music Teacher and I've composed an Intermediate level piano album titled, "Moonbeams and Other Musical Sketches" that was reviewed by the editor of Clavier Magazine. I believe that every student is unique, needing an individualized, tailored made approach to learning, so I take the necessary time to evaluate his or her needs from the start, guided by the principle of realizing every pupil's potential.

I'm home-based in Berkeley CA where I teach private students, and I have a web-cam equipped studio with various keyboard views for Online lessons. Students, if interested, will get supplementary videos, free of charge to aid practicing. These are sent privately. My You Tube Channel and Word Press blog are also good sources to assist with musical growth and development.

I studied classical piano with 4 different high-caliber teachers for 6 years, and have taught at over 100 students to attain solid technique and proficiency. Skill levels I work with range from the complete beginner all the way up through advanced classical music repertoire.

Lessons are always a balance of fun and hard work, spontaneity and consistent practice, communication and challenge. I teach a combination of technique, with an emphasis on musical style and help to cultivate good practice habits. I also facilitate workshops and recitals to enable my students to perform in front of others.

About Peter
Whether piano, voice, songwriting/composition, music theory or music production, I bring all that I have learned and developed as a musician to the lesson in the interest of the student’s growth.

Whether we work in classical, jazz, or pop, We focus on what will directly fit your individual goals. We can cover the full spectrum of technique, theory, ear training, sight-reading, and performance. What emerges over time is tailor-made program suited to your needs and goals.

A little bit about my background: I have studied with over 12 music professors, both in the classroom and individually for 6 years at Saddleback Community College in Orange County. I’ve studied a number of styles while composing for and performing in various small ensembles, including:  world music, classical, pop, jazz, and musical theatre. I continue teach, produ
ce and compose music for myself and other artists as well.

I look forward to getting to know you!

My 10 year old son loves playing little riffs on the piano but really didn't want lessons for fear it would be too much like school. Peter has been awesome about tailoring the lessons so that my son can choose the Music he likes and move forward from his place of interest. Peter is a skilled and gifted pianist, and my son is totally inspired to keep playing and put in the work to improve.

I have been working with Peter for a little over a year and although I'm moving away, I will be continuing my sessions with him over video. Over the past year, I've had the most incredible mentoring experience with Peter and would highly recommend him to students of all ages. I used to play piano as a kid and quit when I was in middle school, and Peter has helped me regain, maintain and build on my skills. He takes measures to keep me accountable in my practice and also nurtures and encourages me creatively -- his experience as a composer comes in handy and we have dope jam sessions. In addition to his musical teaching practice, Peter is also training in somatic and trauma healing modalities that infuse his work with students with care and attunement. I know some parents who work with him keep him around their kids as a life coach and buddy as well as a music teacher. He's the best and I will miss seeing him every week in person!

Peter has taught my 11yr old son so much! The Focus is on the fundamentals but he is flexible and fun which support creative learning and keeps my son engaged! A great instructor that is very reasonably priced and it is convenient to have such a great teacher come to the house, many others we looked do not offer that kind of service.

Playing piano is fun! So should your piano lessons.

I've taught piano since I was in high school, and continued to teach as a student at Cornell University. I also taught theory classes in the Cornell Piano Society, where I also served as President for 4 years.

Why? I simply love music, piano, and sharing it with others.

About Marwan
I started playing piano when I was 3, and began writing music at the age of 6. I've taught music and piano for over 12 years.

I graduated from Cornell University in Electrical & Computer Engineering, with a minor in Music. While in college, I was President of the Cornell Piano Society.

We could not be happier with Marwan! Most importantly, my daughter is thriving with his instruction -- though we like him too :) Marwin brings expansive experience in piano and beyond. For piano, he's got a great balance of being exacting and precise with instructions yet just as flexible as we need him to be if my daughter hasn't been able to practice due to other demands. We like that he doesn't make her feel guilty about that -- but is patient and able to get her on track so she can fulfill her amazing musical potential. We love his in-depth knowledge in a variety of things and he's charming, warm, and humorous to be around. Highly recommended: you'll enjoy meeting and working with him.

Hi! First, I will ask for your experience not only with piano but with music. We will work on posture, playing technique and reading. Because of my tutelage, my default material for beginners is Suzuki Book 1 which you can either purchase yourself or I can bring one for you. If you have other music material that you would like to work on, I am happy to use that instead. Then I will assign you homework which you will need to practice on your own in preparation for then next lesson.

About Charlotte
Hi! I am currently a student at University of San Francisco studying Biology and Neuroscience. I began studying piano when I was 4 through the Suzuki method and started teaching when I moved to San Francisco to start school. I am dedicated to the Suzuki method and believe in it. When I take on a student, I want them to accomplish their goals but will require that they practice and prepare for each lesson. With practicing done, we can work on and hone your skill together and (I hope) develop a love for music and an instrument I hold very dear.

PLEASE NOTE: Take Lessons has disabled the ability to message me so you will have to book me in order to directly speak with me.

My trip to San Francisco was highlighted by my time at the piano with Charlotte. I chose early morning lessons to get the day started! Charlotte is a great teacher, our lessons were so productive, and they never seemed to last long enough, especially the last one, the hour went to quickly! She has her own unique way to keep you moving through the material and keep you motivated and rewarded with subtle progression. Lessons with Charlotte would be my main reason for returning to SFO on the next trip from HKG!!! Thanks Charlotte!!!

I love teaching piano. In my eight years of experience, I've learned several piano methods, and I've developed my own approach which balances playing, listening, and analyzing music. My students have told me they appreciate me for my clear, simple way of explaining things, my enthusiasm, and the personal attention I give to each student. My primary goal is to train well-rounded musicians, and offer the benefits that entails, such as discipline, critical-thinking, and creativity.

About Shahin
I love teaching piano. I've taught for eight years, working with children and adults of all levels of experience. My students have said they appreciate my patience, enthusiasm, and careful plan for each lesson to achieve new skills and understanding. Each lesson written exercises which teach theory and reinforce new concepts. My goal is for every student to have the sight-reading, critical-listening, and understanding of theory to make them a complete musician.

Dear parents and students,

I began playing the piano at the age of five. In 2008, I completed Music Teachers' Association of California Keyboard test and had the Certificate of Merit Advanced Level. Classes are including Piano Pedagogy, Piano Accompaniment, Recital Preparation and Interpretive, Piano sight-reading, Beethoven's literature, and High school choir. I have performed as soloist and chamber musician in various locations which included performing in concerts, nursing home, and school functions.

Do you have a passion for music? Are you or your child interested in learning how to play various instruments with a qualified instructor who has years of teaching and performing experience? I would love to help you discover a newfound passion and excitement for music by sharing my experiences and education with you.

All ages & levels accepted - it's never too late to pick up an instrument! Lessons will be geared towards each student's individual interests and progress. While all students will learn to master fundamental performance techniques and music theory concepts, each will have a different approach to music, and that is the beauty of becoming a performing artist. Whether you want to learn music theory, composition, songwriting, chamber music/accompaniment, recording techniques, OR popular music, that can be arranged! Students will also be prepared for such music exams and annual recitals they may wish to participate in.

About Jasmine
I am a professional pianist and violinist from the San Francisco Bay Area. I graduated from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor with a Bachelor's Degree in Music, specifically piano performance. Currently, I am an elementary school band instructor with the Fremont Unified School District; I also teach private piano and violin lessons in my home studio.

Throughout my life, I have experienced music in many different settings - these include solo performances, collaborative music, piano accompaniment, music theory, recording/performing arts technology, dance, composition and film/TV/video scoring. Since a young age I have sung and played various instruments in many orchestral & choral groups, which has given me so many timeless and valuable memories that I would love to share with you! My personal passions for teaching come from the happi
ness it brings to others when they make music, and my goal is to guide you through the path that can ultimately lead you to having the same, even better experiences.

Whether you want to learn how to play a contemporary song you love or immerse yourself in the world of Classical music, I am here to help you with your first steps in the performing arts at whatever pace works for you!
