I've been teaching ballet for over twenty years. My ballet teacher was a Bolshi alumnai. He and his dad both danced for the Bolshi before they came to America. I teach a combination of Vaganova and my own updated style to keep my students interested in the style. I use classical music and pop to help students gain a love and appreciation for the style.

About Kay
I have been teaching Piano for 20 years now. I have taught students from age 2 1/2 - Adult. I was self-taught when I was a kid and begun taking formal lessons as a very young adult in my early twenties. I graduated from CSULB with my BA in Music with a concentration on Voice. As a Music major, you spend a lot of time at the Piano. I became a member of MTAC in 2004 and a member of Sigma Alpha Iota in 1998. I have a great passion for Music and a bigger passion for the Piano and sharing the wonders of how beautiful the Piano really is.

*** Lesson Details ***
In my opinion, piano is the hardest instrument to learn, but the most rewarding. If you can play piano you can pretty much play any instrument. I believe that a piano lesson should be fun. I'm a strict teacher with a smile and a giggle. I push my students to greatness while helping t
hem love the piano through the good times and the bad. I'm a very encouraging but honest teacher. I compliment when warranted and I assess incorrect performances in an honest, but encouraging manner. I always let a student know that, though their performance was not their best, they can and will improve. It's always only a matter of time. I use the Schaum and Nevin series depending on the student's personality. I teach Classical and Pop Music. It's important for a student to learn the Classics and gain the ability to play things they like. I find the happy balance between the two. I teach Beginning to Intermediate levels. I also like to incorporate Music theory into the lessons because understanding the mechanics of Music helps make playing and creating Music much easier to accomplish. A typical lesson will start off with a hand drill warm up. We then will move on to the lesson book and repertoire. Theory will be assigned as homework. I look it over at the beginning of the lesson and discuss it and answer any questions in the last five minutes of class. Baby lessons go as followed: 15 mins. of play time and 15 mins of Music theory. I like to keep structure in my lessons but sprinkle a little joy and laughter to keep the atmosphere light. It makes for a much more attentive Piano student.

*** Travel Equipment ***
I expect the student to have a Piano or Keyboard of some sort. I may provide music on occasion.

*** Specialties ***

My deep love of ballet, & especially pointe, is strongly rooted in the fundamentals of ballet conditioning. One of the greatest tools that I utilize, is the ballet barre. Through the work that we do on the barre, you will become a stronger, & more confident dancer, as you will be able to put to use proper technique. Even if you're goal isn't to get into pointe shoes, ankle strength is still extremely important! Through the barre, you WILL gain the strength that's needed for pointe, if desired:)

About Jaime
Hi, my name's Jaime! I've been dancing almost my entire life, & have loved every moment of it! My main focus was always on ballet, but for many years, I also took modern, jazz, and hip-hop classes, & was also a competitive figure skater. I started dancing at age 4, & danced all the way through the first 2 years of college, where I danced with the Ensemble Company. I was originally a dance major, & dancing with the school dance company, until a bad injury forced me to have to give up dancing as a profession, as well as competitive figure skating. To say that this was beyond devastating, would be the biggest understatement of my life! Two years ago, I was introduced to AcroYoga, & taught classes with my first partner. I recently attended the LIFT School of Acrobatics teacher training program, & I'm currently training partner acrobatics, tum
bling, hand balancing, & Russian bar, at the San Diego Circus Center.
I really look forward to meeting you, & sharing my love of all of these areas!

I am a teacher of 13 years and I love what I do!

Ballet is a great workout in addition to being the foundation for all technical dance. It's a great place to start and always to come back to. Ballet has many benefits to offer students at every level, which is why even Pro football players take it!

Through ballet lessons with me, you will stabilize find better balance and control, strengthen, tone, and elongate your muscles, have increased flexibility and mobilization, improve your coordination and confidence, and much more.

My ballet lessons cover basics of posture, placement, alignment, and turnout. We begin practicing essentials such as positions, plies, tendus, pirouettes and more. Once the student shows proficiency in these basics, we move into more advanced movement and choreography. There is strong focus on technical precision and skill to ensure students are learning the correct foundation so they get the maximum benefit out of their ballet lessons. ...

You want to start learning ballet? Want to improve your techniques? Or just want to have a great workout?
I would love to share my passion for ballet and all the knowledge I gained through my career.
I believe ballet is demanding and hard but also it brings joy and beauty in your life.
I make sure that my students are challenged but also having fun in my class.
All ages/Levels welcome and of course lessons are customized and catered to the needs/goals of each student.

I started dancing at the age of 7 in Japan. At the age of 17, I attended to Arts Educational school in England and at the age of 18, I moved to New York city to attend Joffrey Ballet school.
At the age of 20, I was accepted to Dance Theatre of Harlem in NY and danced as a professional ballerina for about 6 years. Performed many principal roles and toured all over the US and overseas.
After my dancing career, I have been teaching dancers of different ages and experiences, from pre-ballet to adults and from ...

About Mayuko
Mayuko Shoka was born and raised in Gifu, Japan, where she started ballet training at Ballet studio K&M at age of 7 under Kazuko and Zlatko Mikulic. The main ballet style practiced was the Vaganova.
At the age of 17, she moved to England to attend The Arts Educational School. Here she mostly practiced RAD ballet method and Cecchetti ballet technique and she got a Cecchetti teaching certificate. She also had exposure to tap, jazz, contemporary and modern dance forms while she was there.
After a year, she moved to New York to continue her training at Joffrey Ballet School. At the age of 20, she was accepted to Dance Theatre of Harlem Ensemble under the director Arthur Mitchell, where she performed many principal roles in such as Joplin Dancers, New Bach, Concerto In F, South African Suite, Le Corsair, Nutcracker, and Glinka, among others. W
hile she was there, she toured all over the United States and overseas such as Bahamas and Jamaica.
After moving to Seattle she became certified Yoga teacher by CorePower Yoga.
While there, she taught Ballet and Yoga at Vam Studios School of Dance and took tap classes from Mark Mendonca to deepen the tap education.
She recently moved to LA and she is very excited to join TakeLessons to share her passion for ballet and all of the knowledge she learned in her career.
I believe that I am good at teaching young children, teenagers and also adults.
When I was dancing professionally I was so focused on the techniques that I forgot how fun is and how much I loved dancing. Then after my career, I was able to approach dance from a more relaxed and fun-driven perspective and it made me realize that everybody should be having fun dancing, especially if not dancing professionally. Also, when I started dancing as a kid, I didn’t have “the ballerina body” (e.g. not flexible enough, closed hips, no adequate feet) so ballet did not come natural for me. I always had to work so much harder than the other girls in the studio to achieve the same results. Thanks to my hard work, the shape of my legs changed completely after many years. This struggle, to get a better dancer, taught me how hard ballet could be and made me understand more about the details of techniques and the steps necessary to perfectionate them. I am happy to share all the knowledge accumulated over the years to allow my students to improve their skills while still having fun.

We hired Ms. Mayuko to supplement my daughter’s rhythmic gymnastics training. Ms. Mayuko delivered rigorous ballet lessons in sequence to help build my daughter’s foundation in classical ballet, but to also improve her ability to accomplish a strict code of points for competition in rhythmic gymnastics. With Ms. Mayuko’s program, my daughter achieved her split leaps, extension, and turns in less than 6 months. My daughter was able to get the all-around gold title for her state and region, in large part to Ms. Mayuko’s training. She is strict and her lessons are rigorous, yet her genuine love for working with children is imminent and is what kept my daughter’s motivation for ballet and gym going. I recommend Ms. Mayuko to the highest degree.

I have worked as a professional dancer for ten years and have over fifteenth years of diverse training. In my early years, I received my training from the Debbie Allen Dance Academy where I was molded by the best educators possible to acquire outstanding skills. Learning ballet, jazz, tap, dunham, flamingo, hip hop, salsa, African, point, modern, character, musical theater, and Latin fusion. After high school I attended Columbia College Chicago where I earned my Bachelors of Arts in Theater. Currently, I spend my time taking care of animals, hiking, going to the beach, teaching dance/theater, taking dance class, and keeping up with my younger siblings.

I was trained in Indiana University’s prestigious pre-college ballet program for many years, and I’ve choreographed and taught in many styles. Ballet is my favorite because it is the foundation of all dance. I have worked with people of all ages (literally, youngest was 2 years and oldest was past middle age) and skill levels (I’ve taught recreational dancers and competitive pre-professionals), and my biggest strength as a teacher is my ability to break things down and clear up questions a student has. I can tailor lessons to what you’d like to work on, and I’d love to create choreography for you to any music you like!

About Callie
Hi there! I am an actress and model living in LA who is looking for part-time work that I can be passionate about. I’ve always loved teaching, and I would love to help you.

I’m trained in ballet, musical theatre, contemporary, jazz, and I can send a link to some of my choreography work if you’re interested.

For parents: I am a recent graduate of Indiana University, where I graduated in three years with a 3. 8 GPA, and I have always had a passion for education. Since moving to LA, I have taught at United Children’s Learning Academy and 24 Hour Fitness Sherman Oaks Kids Club. Before that, I was a classroom aide at IU’s Campus Children’s Center (infants-5-year-olds) for three years, where I cultivated warm relationships with all of the families we served and used RIE techniques with the children. I also spent seven months as a cadet teach
er in a class of third graders, I’ve taught dance to kids of all ages and skill levels through One Step Above and Windfall Dancers, and I’ve taken college level courses in child development, psychology, and speech development. I am CPR/AED certified and in California’s Trustline database.
