Jesse began studying guitar at the age of ten, and in his studies has developed an unwitting passion for playing and teaching. Bay Area native Jesse has studied with classical guitarist Angel Miguel Lejarza Leo, flamenco guitar virtuoso Jason McGuire, and has worked under the mindful instruction of classical guitarist Nicholas Goluses at the Eastman School of Music, University of Rochester, New York. There Jesse completed his Bachelors in Music (Classical Performance) with distinction, and was honored with a Performer’s Certificate, demonstrating excellence in guitar performance. During his undergraduate studies, Jesse performed in masterclasses led by the prestigious GFA winner, Tengyue Zhang, and Bach expert, Paul Galbraith. His time at Eastman has given him a strong background in music theory; he is an advocate for the written and aural analysis of music, and stresses the importance of composition and instrumental exploration. As a performer and teacher, Jesse specializes in ...

About Jesse

I love music and have been composing and performing for many years. And although I love to compose and perform, teaching is probably my favorite aspect of working in music. I get the most joy in teaching when an individual learns something new, or when things start to "click" so to speak. Further, I

Jesse is an excellent teacher. He is calm, warm and incredibly patient with my 6 year old daughter. After having a thoughtful discussion about how we should start lessons, we agreed on an approach that would further encourage her natural enthusiasm for music. She loves it. Jesse has also been very flexible with offering zoom and in person classes. I have been really impressed with how well he holds my daughter’s attention even over zoom. He is a wonderful teacher and I could not recommend him more.

Jesse masters the art of making teaching be FUN! He is an incredible musician, but knows how to connect with kids to open up their world to love and learn music. My 6 year old son and 7 year old daughter both do ukulele lessons with Jesse, and it’s a highlight of their week. As a parent, I’m excited to have them learning an instrument, and at the same time, I see it building their confidence too. Being brave to practice singing and playing the instrument, despite feeling nervous about it. Jesse has a beautiful way of connecting to the kids with humor and encouragement, so they feel both comfortable and confident. I’m so happy we started music lessons with Jesse, and honestly cannot recommend him enough!!

Jesse structures lessons for the skill of the student and the direction the student wants to go in. Emphasizing the students abilities. He is knowledgeable in all aspects of music. Jesse explains concepts well and also ensures the student understands what is being thought. Great guitarist and great teacher.

Talented teachers are rare. Like a great coach i sports... the coach doesn’t need to be the top athlete in his field to know how to teach each team member to hone their best abilities, he just has to know and see how to teach you how to get there. Being an outstanding teacher is a great talent all in itself... and that is Jesse. He has that quality and ability to lead, focus and take you where you want to go.

Jesse has given directions on how to successfully become a better musician. His approach and explanation on musical theories was much more understandable than what I was previously reading. Overall, I found the lessons to be very usefull.

I have been playing guitar for over a decade and have tons of performance experience gigging in a local rock band. Combine that with a curriculum that starts with fundamentals and expands quickly into playing your favorite songs and you have a great start to beginning or expanding your guitar playing abilities.

About ryan

Hi, my name is Ryan and I would love to teach you how to play guitar. I've been playing for over 10 years and have been gigging for a little less than that in my band. Over the years I have gained a lot of experience performing on stage and teaching to people of all ages. If you want to shred, jam,

Ryan was great! He's obviously a talented guitarist and he is very laid back and makes you feel comfortable. He shows you in detail what you need to do to become a better guitar player. My ONLY advice, and the reason he doesn't get 5 stars, is I think he should have more visual aids with his lessons. For example, write down the different scales or transcribe the first several measures of a song. Then, one has something to refer back to when you are practicing and invariably get stuck. Other than that, I would highly recommend Ryan as a guitar teacher!

Steven is an extremely well versed and educated guitar teacher. Both in person and online, Steven managed to meet the interests and push the knowledge of music notation no matter what style. My son became a confident player in a short amount of time due to Steven’s vast knowledge and experience. As a 20+ year schoolteacher myself, I really appreciate his student connection and teaching style. An all over excellent experience.

He always manages to find interesting pieces, beautiful to listen to but also fun to play. He is open to suggestions and new techniques and makes sure that his students enjoy the class and learn something. He is never hesitant to explain something again or in a different way. "I have been working with Brendon for about 2 years now. He is not only incredibly knowledgeable about all aspects of guitar (composition, scales, classical pieces, finger-strengthening exercises, etc.), he is also an incredibly patient and dedicated instructor who really listens to the student's needs and helps fill them. His repertoire of songs, exercises, and general guitar knowledge have helped me understand the instrument in a multitude of different ways. I have had many guitar instructors before, but never someone who was so incredibly flexible and patient and willing to help when it comes to someone who has a busy schedule who is still interested in learning a complex instrument. He's definitely the best instructor I've ever had, and I look forward to continuing to work with him for a long time."
