Lessons are tailored to the individual student's initial abilities. In all genres of music, it is important to breathe well, have breath support, communicate the emotion and character of the song, and eliminate vocal bad habits. These issues are different for everyone.

I teach a classical Italian technique of breath support and beautiful tone, and these techniques can be applied to all musical styles.

The student will be assigned and choose songs to learn and work on as we incorporate the techniques into the songs and vocal exercises.

Piano lessons and Italian lessons are also available from ages 4 and up. Piano lessons include music theory and recital participation. Voice lessons include recital participation. Italian lessons are available at my location, your location or online.

Whether you're picking up a saxophone for the first time or looking to reach the next level, I can help you achieve your goals!

About Max
I have worked with over 2,500 students in one-on-one lessons, educational workshops, and outreach concerts. My lessons focus on developing technique, practice strategies, a good sound, aural skills, music theory knowledge, and stylistic fluency.

My private students have placed into selective programs including the Greater Hartford Youth Wind Ensemble at The Hartt School, the Connecticut Music Educators Association All-State Band, and Interlochen Arts Camp. I teach saxophone at Manchester Community College, South Windsor High School, Camp Encore / Coda, and Music and Arts East Hartford. I believe students of all ages can find enjoyment and success in music.

You'll benefit from my years of experience as a professional performing musician. From 2012-2016 I toured with the Asylum Quartet, an award-winning ensemble acclaimed for virtuo
sity, creativity, and innovation. I have also performed with the Juilliard Orchestra, the U.S. Coast Guard Band, and International Opera Theater. I hold a Master's in Music from The Hartt School and a Bachelor of Music summa cum laude from Arizona State University (ASU).

Though I specialize in saxophone, I also love teaching beginning and intermediate piano.

If you are outside my travel radius, I may be able to accommodate you for an additional travel fee - please contact me!

***Lesson Materials***

Saxophone students must have an instrument in good repair and required accessories (reeds, mouthpiece, etc.). Piano students must have access to a tuned piano or an electric keyboard with touch-sensitive, weighted keys. I am happy to recommend instrument and accessory brands; please check with me before a major purchase. Quality, working equipment is critical to students’ success.

I periodically request that students purchase books and other lesson materials.

IMPORTANT: If you are planning to buy a saxophone, piano/keyboard, or mouthpiece, please consult with me first. Having good-quality instrument/accessories will help you achieve your success. There are a number of cheap products that are easy to find and purchase, but they are often of poor quality. I can recommend options for your first purchase that may be more expensive, but will help you succeed in the long term.

I would highly recommend Tony Mitri as a voice and music instructor. My son takes lessons with Mr. Mitri and his progress has been astounding! He studies with other teachers previously without much success. My son has said he has learned more from Mr. Mitri than all of his previous instructors. He enjoys the lessons so he works harder at making progress and it shows. He helped him expand his range substantially, and increase his confidence. I would highly recommend him to anyone interested in music of any kind. Mr.Mitri is awesome professional, patient and extremely knowledgeable. You won’t be disappointed.

Each lesson includes studies of fundamental techniques, ear training, and music history in order to facilitate the development of a whole musician.

About Stephanie
Hello, and thank you for your interest!

My name is Stephanie, I am a teaching-artist from El Paso, Texas. I currently reside, perform and teach in the Boston and greater Boston area.

I am a recent graduate of The New England Conservatory of Music with a Masters and Graduate Diploma in Saxophone Performance. I received my Bacherlors in Music Education from New Mexico State University.

“A teaching artist, by definition, is a two-career professional: a working artist and a working educator. As a working artist is they are involved in an ongoing process of discovery, problem solving, discipline and refinement of skills in their discipline. As a working educator, it is essential that the artist is also developing a knowledge base and skills to be an effective partner in education. Achieving a meaningful balance between these two prof
essions, whereby one feeds the other, is an ongoing process that requires a deepening awareness for the teaching artist of what their teaching brings to their art and what their art teaches them about learning.”

I am devoted and dedicated to helping find each of my students' strengths, weaknesses and style of learning. Once I have identified these traits, I am able to develop lessons and repertoire that helps each students become the most efficient learner and best musician they can be.

I pride myself in creating a fun and safe learning environment in which I establish a firm musical foundation for my students. Lessons include: scales, etudes, articulation, dynamic and sight reading exercises, standard repertoire, recording and analyzing performances, music history lessons, and exploration of the sounds, genres and artists of saxophone/flute/clarinet/piano.

Simultaneously, my students cultivate many other skills while learning how to play their instrument. Students enhance their fine motor skills and ability to memorize, students increase their overall self-confidence and become self-sufficient and creative problem solvers. I am passionate about educating and empowering my students and I enjoy connecting with a wide array of musicians of all ages, playing levels and backgrounds.

Feel free to contact me to inquire about lessons, I hope to hear from you soon!

Stephanie is a patient, knowledgeable, enthusiastic educator and collaborator who loves to perform and teach. I had the honor of working with her for nearly four years while we pursued similar degrees at New Mexico State University. She consistently brought a level of maturity and preparedness beyond her age to our rehearsals and practices. If I was limited to only one word to describe her, it would be "professional".

We have had 3 months of piano lessons with Tony for my sons, ages 7 and 9. He is a fantastic teacher! Not only have my kids made great progress with learning how to play the piano, they have also made huge strides in their understanding of music. I am thrilled with how much they have learned in a short time! Getting my kids to practice between lessons was a struggle in the beginning, but this has improved over time because they enjoy their lessons so much. I told them I was writing a review for Tony, and asked for their feedback. They said: "He is nice, and kind, and one of the best teachers ever!" "He is patient and kind, he helps a lot, is very fun, and he wants me to work hard, which is a good thing!"

From the casual musician to the returning professional, my lessons teach you what works. I'm completely serious when I say that you're guaranteed to get started quickly and feel good about the progress you make each lesson. From buying your first saxophone setup (sax, mouthpiece, reed, and accessories) to developing strong practice techniques, I'll make sure you get realistic advice that works for you. After our first lesson, I aim for no questions left unanswered.

About Ritchy
I am a professional multi-instrumentalist part of a band that has toured on both coasts and performs regularly on the east coast. I also write journals, poems, lyrics and other creative writing on a regular basis for commission. I graduated from the University of Massachusetts Boston with a bachelors in Music focusing on Saxophone and Piano as my primary instruments.

The years I spent studying and immersing myself in the world of music theory helped me create a very passionate connection to music. Saxophone is the love of my life and has created so much joy over the years just from practice and performance. Knowing firsthand the fun and personal connection someone can make with music, this is what I focus on in any lesson I teach. Technique and scales are merely avenues to playing music that you connect with. While I do know all the cou
ntless fundamentals that lead to a strong musician, my goal with any lesson I teach is to never lose sight of the connection to the craft.

I would also go on to say that this principle doesn't merely stop at music. It extends into my creative writing and especially my cooking as well. I grew up surrounded by the sounds and smells of traditional Caribbean cuisine at home with my mom. She is my largest influence as a cook and as a creator. My mother taught me to be focused and purposeful in my habits at the stove and in life. She always said that Cooking that comes from the heart beats any recipe book and I believe her. Whether it be the simple ramen dish or five star cuisine, I always aim to teach how to cook stress-free and passionate. Even if you don't choose me as your teacher, I sincerely hope my words here can be carried into whatever you do. Thank you for stopping by and I hope we can create something special together. :)

I've got 20+ years of experience playing alto and tenor sax, both classical in the New York State all-state band and jazz in various ensembles on Long Island. Most of my teaching experience is with elementary to middle school-aged kids, though I have given lessons to adult learners in the past; my teaching methods vary based on student age, but no matter how many years you've been on this Earth, I'll still make the learning process engaging, enjoyable and efficient. Before you know it, you or your kid will be slaying it on the ax!

About Joey
I am an ex-New Yorker living in the DMV area who still hasn't lost his accent. I've played sax since childhood all the way through university, and studied under professional saxophonists and touring musicians. My official academic background is in foreign language, but music has always been a passion of mine, and I'd like to think that I've passed on that eagerness to learn to my sax and language students.

I've been giving informal private lessons to elementary through middle school-aged kids since 2007 if memory serves me. I've worked with some high schoolers and adult learners, just not as many; I'm perfectly comfortable teaching both. I tailor my lessons to the student based not just on age or skill level, but on personality - I distinctly remember what it was like to be forced to play styles of music that I had no interest in, and
wouldn't want to do the same to one of my students! If you like classical, we'll play classical; if you prefer jazz, then jazz it'll be! And if you like both, then more power to you!

I can't wait to meet you and help you achieve your learning goals! We'll make you a regular Charlie Parker in no time.

I'm an adult learner with no musical background and I wanted to learn to read music. I met Joey by chance (not through this site) and started getting private lessons from him at home. Music notation never made sense to me until he started to explain how math-based it is (simple math) and that was kind of an eye opener. He is outgoing and patient and clearly loves helping others.

I've known Joe for a long time and he got my 5-year old son started with music. He's too young to play saxophone obviously but I wanted to get him interested in music in general and to have fun with it. Joe taught him some very basic stuff on a kid's digital piano and now my son can't get enough. Hopefully this will keep him interested in music all the way to high school!
