Classical voice lessons are for students who prefer to sing in a choir or plan to sing classical repertoire (art song, opera). These lessons are ideal for students entering a college music program. Emphasis is placed on technique and beauty in singing. We strive to strengthen the student's natural voice in a healthy way.

An anthology of classical songs is assigned at the first lesson. Some students choose to add additional styles of music into these lessons.

About Stacey
During the past 17 years, Stacey has worked with students ranging from age 5 to 75 teaching classical, musical theater, Christian, and pop music. She accepts students of all ages, styles, and levels. Her students learn through vocal exercises, ear training, song, and performance techniques. Students also learn how to keep their voices healthy and are encouraged to participate in performing venues outside of lessons.

After teaching in New York and Ohio, Stacey held a teaching position at American River College and operated her private voice studio in Sacramento, California for 6 years. She recently relocated to San Diego where she maintains her private voice studio. Stacey has a Master of Music in Vocal Performance/Pedagogy from Ohio University, and a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from SUNY Fredonia. Most recently, she c
ompleted the Summer Vocology Institute where she worked with several of the most knowledgeable researchers and therapists in the field of voice and completed additional Speech Pathology-related courses at the University of Pittsburgh. During graduate school, she taught as a graduate assistant and was hired after graduation as a Visiting Lecturer at Ohio University. Stacey also taught as the Affiliate Voice Instructor for the Athens Community School of Music and Voice Instructor at Studio 1 in Lancaster, Ohio.

A classically trained musician, Stacey performed locally in Sacramento as a soloist and sang first soprano with the Sacramento Master Singers. Although her love is art song, Stacey performed in both musical theater and opera productions during high school, undergraduate, and graduate school. Her roles include Despina from Mozart'€™s 'Cosi fan tutte' and Nancy in Britten'€™s 'Albert Herring'. She performed 3 degree recitals and was a 1998-99 Concerto Competition Winner at SUNY Fredonia.

*** Lesson Details ***
I find it very important for my students to be comfortable and to enjoy their lessons. Our first lesson will include getting to know your comfort level and all the details of your voice. We will sing a lot of vocal exercises, find out what you already know, and set basic goals. For a normal lesson, I always start with vocal exercises and progress into our song literature.

I am an energetic instructor and love what I do. Everything I teach is based on solid, healthy vocal technique. I apply this classical technique to all styles of singing from musical theater to pop and of course classical. Sometimes I will assign you a song, but usually I give you a choice between 2 or 3. I always encourage you to bring in your own song choices as options!

Students always ask how quickly they will progress. The answer is...it's completely individual. If you strive for a reasonable goal and practice efficiently generally you will progress nicely.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in classical and musical theater voice, and use the basic efficient healthy technique used in these styles to work with students who prefer to sing popular styles. I spend a lot of time on a solid foundation in breathing and learning to sing in a healthy way.

Stacey has been training my daughter for over 6 years! It's hard to believe these lessons are coming to an end, but not because Stacey isn't amazing, but because my daughter is graduating and moving away! I just want to thank Stacey for helping my daughter at the age of 11 how to sing through being terrified! She has come a long way and she has enjoyed all her time with Miss Stacey! I have recommended Stacey and will continue to recommend her not just for her talent, but because of her patience and her kind heart too!

Stacey is the perfect instructor for my five-year-old girl. She is professional yet fun, and works with my daughter to learn the songs even though she can't yet read words herself. My daughter loves her lessons and looks forward to them each week. I would recommend Stacey to everyone.

I currently sings operatic repertoire ranging from Mozart to Bernstein and loves new composers and exploring new music. I have studied with numerous teachers, coaches, directors, and conductors who have shaped me as a musician, and I hope to be able to impart some of what I have learned. My students have received college scholarships, advanced in national competitions, and had successful auditions in both classical and Broadway style singing. My students have performed in musicals, plays,
choirs, and operas. I look forward to exploring your voice with you!

I currently teach in Bloomington, IN and online, I have previously taught in the Atlanta area for four years, as well as New Jersey and Boston, MA. After studying vocal pedagogy, vocal anatomy, Body Mapping, Alexander Technique, acting, dance, movement, and of course years of musical study, I have honed my skills as a teacher and wants to share them with you! Healthy breathing, physicality, phonation, and resonance techniques are crucial to any style of singing - opera, classical, Broadway, or pop.

I attended the summer training programs at the Aspen Music Festival in Aspen, CO and the Seagle Music Colony in the Adirondacks. I am also featured on Albany Records release of Signor Deluso in the role I performed with the Opera Company of Brooklyn. I have performed the soprano solos in Verdi's Requiem, Faure's Requiem, and Gounod's St Cecilia Mass. Recently I worked closely with Stephen Schwartz - creator of the hit Broadway musical Wicked to create the starring role, Myra Foster, in his first opera - Seance on a Wet Afternoon.

In 2010 I was a Metropolitan Opera National Council Semi-Finalist. I claimed third place and the Wagner award in the Orpheus National Vocal Competition. I was also recognized for excellence with the Benefactor's Award in the Saritelli DiPanni Bel Canto Vocal Scholarship Fund as well as being a semi-finalist in the 2009 Jensen Competition. I enjoyed participating in NATS (National Association of Teachers of Singing) for many years, placing every year in college, and taking home first prize senior year. When I started singing in junior high, I accompanied myself with the guitar. Then I went on to study voice privately and learned correct Classical and Belle Canto styles of singing. I've studied for many years and continue to sing and learn, using the best techniques of singing Classical as well as every other style of music. Currently I have a student who has gone on to study to be an Opera Singer and she is doing splendidly!

About Susan
My primary focus is teaching the best and most effective Vocal Techniques to students of all ages and backgrounds. I also teach Acoustic Guitar and finger picking. My teaching includes the Orff and Suzuki methods of music for Children. My primary focus is on teaching singing and I have been teaching beginning to advanced Voice, as well as beginning to intermediate acoustic guitar privately for over 25 years. My students perform in recitals at least twice a year. They also participate in local Broadway productions and Musicals for C.Y.T., Coast Kids, Moonlight Theatre, Escondido Center for The Arts, J Company, and Star Theatre Productions. Students also are involved with Classical, Choral, Gospel, Pop and Rock performing. Along with these venues, students perform for talent shows at their schools, sing in bands, and perform locally at thei
r favorite venues. Many of my students have gone on to sing professionally and I currently teach Artists with ongoing careers.

My motto is learn to sing the "Easy, Natural Way". I teach the very best techniques, so vocalizing is not strained or difficult. My main focus is on teaching good "placement" of the sound, using the best ways to secure breath support and control, as well as good stage presence. Dealing with stage fright is always addressed, whether the singer wants to sing just for themselves, or audition for Musical Theatre productions. Styles range from pop to rock and opera.
I teach students of ALL AGES and work with every style or genre of music. Having spearheaded the Music program at the local YMCA has been a special treat in my teaching career!

*** Studio Equipment ***
I teach using a piano for learning vocal exercises and good techniques. I also have an acoustic Guitar that I use to teach my students how to play and learn good finger picking and strumming techniques. Using a computer is always employed, to pull up songs on YouTube, so students can choose what they would like to work on. Karaoke versions are used as well, for further training purposes.

*** Travel Equipment ***
When I teach at a student's home, I bring my Guitar with me, if they're studying this instrument. It is helpful for a student to have a piano or keyboard for me to teach voice, but I do have a keyboard I can bring if none is available. Having a computer close by is very helpful, to get the most out of the lesson as is possible.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in helping people who have created possible "bad habits" in their singing techniques. "Placement" and breathing, or "support", are of key importance. When good techniques are used, just about anyone can learn to sing beautifully. I also work with all ages, having background with Children, as well as teens, middle age, and elderly vocalists. Singing is universal, so every ethnicity is included in my student roster. If someone wants to learn to play the acoustic Guitar, this is always a plus, to accompany ones-self, or to focus on the instrument on it's own. Singing and playing should be "easy" and this is the approach I take in teaching.

Marianne is a fantastic instructor. She has the most important thing needed in teaching music, in particular beginners, PATIENCE. If you don't have that as a music teacher you are in the wrong field. Before the 1st lesson she asked me a series of questions with regards to my experience with the oboe to help her set up a lesson plan for me which was great. She doesn't treat you like "you're a beginner, here is what you need" (the "Cookie cutter approach"). I highly recommend Marianne as a teacher and look forward to my musical journey on the Oboe with her as my mentor and teacher.

I'm flexible with my teaching style and can help you attain your goals.

About Vitaly
I’m a Theatre Major from UCSD. I've studied music since my early teens, and have played and performed for over a decade. I love music, and I love creating art. If you’re looking for a by the book instructor (here follow the instructions in your music book) I’m probably not a good fit. Music is fun and should be taught that way. But that does not mean you shouldn’t learn the foundation of good technique and how to master those skills. I enjoy teaching as much as I do playing or performing. That is why I do it.
